82 problems related to engine and engine cooling have been reported for the 2022 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2022 Jeep Wrangler based on all problems reported for the 2022 Wrangler.
When starting from a complete stop with the car in drive (usually from a stop light/sign), the dash will go completely black and come back online with initial guidance to place the car in park before starting the engine followed by "service transmission". Once put into park, it cannot be released into neutral to move out of danger - it's truly stuck. Based on 4xe forums, this is not a unique problem. When completely shut off and restarted, it behaves as normal. This has happened twice on the same vehicle and no error code is generated for service.
There is a recall on my vehicle that relates to a safety issue with the clutch overheating and causing a fire. It has been over a year and the dealership where I purchased the vehicle has no remedy, and none planned. I have called and checked several times with the same answer. Feb 23,2023 manufacturer recall number19a NHTSA recall number23v-116 recall statusrecall incomplete, remedy not yet available.
Had to go in to repair a coolant leak, power train issue with the driveshaft and suspension.
My vehicle has a recall for the high pressure fuel pump. While driving the engine light and cruise control light will turn automatically and then go away consecutively. Yes, the issue has been confirmed and inspected by the manufacturer and the dealership in which I purchased my vehicle. The vehicle will stall when running or randomly turn off and smell like smoke. I have made 3 appointments in which the dealership will advise me to drop my vehicle off and once I arrive they tell me they do not have the parts. I called the manufacturer and they advised they receive the parts every 7 days. I have contacted the dealership and I will not get a response. Im scared for my safety and others.
I was driving and at a red light the car just stopped working. It was stuck in park and did not want to shift gears. I kept getting a warning message to push the brake and push start but nothing happened. I was stuck in the middle of the road and was put in a dangerous situation. I kept turning the car on and off and eventually 30 minutes later it started.
Water pump failure during cold weather event down to 20f, told by dealership that plastic hose adapter integral to the pump had cracked. Resulted in catastrophic loss of coolant while driving. Coolant reservoir is opaque and pressurized so level could not be verified while hot. Replaced under warranty.
With this recall and no repair, I no longer feel safe driving my Jeep and being that the recall notice states not to park near other vehicles or buildings/structures is another safety concern. It lunges upon first driving as well.
Vehicle again experienced ‘high-speed’ stalling with rapid DE-acceleration + additional loss of power steering + transmission lock. Due to lack of brake lights upon rapid DE-acceleration, nearly caused trailing vehicle to rear-end the subject Jeep Wrangler and swerve into oncoming traffic. Vehicle had to be towed to dealership due to unable to start and transmission lock. Video provided of event. Dealership advised could not repeat failure, manufacturer refused to open case with engineering. Software update applied.
Engine speed became limited while driving and abruptly slowed down to 10 mph while driving on the streets almost causing an incident for myself and others. Once car was stopped loud noises would come from hybrid cooling system as if it was overheating upon start up. Dealer confirmed inspection and fixed hybrid cooling system which was covered under warranty. 3 weeks later after fix, vehicle engine light came on again and car had to be in service for another warranty issue connected to the fuel line. No warning lights, messages or symptoms of problems before incident happened. My family and I are terrified from the first incident and the 2nd engine light coming on only a few weeks later has confirmed our concerns that Jeep has made a faulty product and these vehicles should be recalled.
I was going approximately 60 mph on mn highway 100 s in the far right lane, driving with a half full tank of gas and <1% battery in “hybrid” mode, when suddenly and error message saying “service charging system” error appeared in red on the driver console and all engine acceleration stopped working. The vehicle then displayed a message to shift to p to start the engine. But it wouldn’t let me shift to p while going 50+ mph. I managed to coast to a relatively safe area on the shoulder of the highway with minimal disruption of traffic, bring the car to a full stop, and restart the engine. However if I had been in the far left lane of the highway instead of the far right, or in a section without a safe shoulder, this event could have been the start of a major accident, endangering myself and many others. The spontaneous total loss of driving power in the 4xe is an inexcusable public safety risk. I know there has been a previous recall for a different issue that also produced this effect. This issue must also be fixed.
I have been leasing this vehicle for approximately 3 years and have experienced constant engine problems; knocking and jolting forward. There have been four safety recalls and I mentioned the engine issues at the dealership. I was told not use the electric engine and keep the car in gas mode. This has not fixed the problem; it jolts forward randomly which is very scary. I only have this one vehicle and a small child. I am not comfortable driving this car with my son in it. And now I received another recall notice for severe fire risk and no remedy available. I am making (expensive) lease payments for a car that is not safe to drive.
Spontaneous engine shutdown for the 3rd time: steering wheel locked, transmission locked, engine turns off. . . . All while driving.
I have taken my 22 Wrangler in 3 times to the dealership to fix the engine overheating, each time it was a different component until they said we need an entire new engine. Safety of us was overheated engine without a warning on the highway going 70+ speeds. I have heard several other stories of 21 and 22 Wranglers overheating, I am not sure why a recall hasn't been issued.
I was driving on the highway and my Jeep shook for a moment and then the d started blinking and there were 2 lights that came on. One was the battery light and the other one was the charging light. There was also an on screen message about a charging problem and to pull over safely. I was on the highway and this was very dangerous as the car was slowing down with cars behind me. I managed to pull over on the side of the highway and stopped my car safely . I turned off my car restarted it. I then got off the highway and made it home safely via the back roads. I made an appointment with the dealership but this was very unsafe and almost caused an accident. Please investigate as as I have seen many other reports of this online. Thanks.
My 2022 4xe has been in the shop a total of 10 months due to engine shut down, (slamming to a stop while driving along w/ auto park engaging). All of this started after having the 22v865 recall preformed in 2023. The dealership has yet to figure out the remedy, despite popping multiple codes. This is a serious safety issue that could ultimate kill someone, if stellantis continues to turn a blind eye. The dealership released my Jeep unfixed, I am now looking for another dealership who may have an idea how to correct the problems.
My 2022 4xe rubicon has been at the shop for 60 days now for slamming in to a dead stop while driving over 8 -18 mph. This happened 4 times early in the morning trying to drive to work. The dealership towed it in that morning, but failed to look at it for over 2 weeks. - they thought it was just in for regular maintenance. - during this time multiple warning lights were on (cel and etc, etc) . To date, they can not recreate this frightening situation or pull up any codes. I could have killed somebody, had I made it to a busy road. I had the 22v-865 recall done in Feb 2023, which clearly did not work. Chrysler's involvement has been useless, the latest safety recall report I read (dated 7/13/23) indicates they cannot find the "root cause', they are attempting update software that will change "fail safe from shut off to limp home" but state in this report that there is still no resolution, and is still under investigation. I purchased my 4xe August 27, 2022, fca knowing they manufactured the 2. 0l phev engine, issued a stop -sale notice in December 2022 "in order to control and avoid the damage and emergency situations on the us roads. '" not a stop drive notice. -other then this scary problem, I have form problems, and it throwing itself into autopark while in reverse. (going less then 3 mph) - how is this not being investigated, . . . How is it that there are no codes or replicate the problems.
While driving me 2022 4xe with the doors off my Jeep remained in drive but abruptly stopped it remained in drive but the d on the gear shifter started blinking. This happened multiple times and could have caused a serious accident. My Jeep was flatbed to the dealership and is still being diagnosed my Jeep is less then a year old and already had one recall completed.
I took my 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4xe unlimited into the dealership for the recall to be fixed and oil/filter change with tire rotation. I drove my vehicle to the dealer and after being there for 3. 5 hours I am informed my vehicle no longer starts/turns over. I have a loaner vehicle with no solution in sight. Upon reading other 4xe owners statements that had the same issue. Upon resetting the software they have multiple trips with the same issue of the engine stalling. I do not want my children in a vehicle that is not running properly. This will put others in danger as well, if my engine fails going down the interstate, it can cause a wreck.
I was driving on the highway at a speed of 70 miles and suddenly I lost total control of my vehicle I lost my engine and without electricity nothing worked I was close to having an accident.
The contact owns a 2022 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 mph the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that there was no power steering, power assist also failed on the brakes. The contact stated that there was a warning chime and a notification to place the vehicle park (p). The contact had the vehicle towed to his residence and recharged the battery and filled the fuel tank which showed a "low fuel" light. " the contact drove the vehicle to a dealer and was told that he had run out of gasoline. The contact stated that failure reoccurred and he had the vehicle towed to a different dealer. The contact was told by that dealer that he had run out of gasoline. The contact had researched online and found that the auxiliary battery would not recharge and would drain the electrical system causing the vehicle to shut down and stall. The contact took the vehicle in for NHTSA campaign number: 22v865000 (engine). The contact stated that he was still having failures with the hybrid system. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 18,500.
Jan/2023 at 55mph, a vehicle swerved into my lane which required immediate braking. Applying the brake, the Jeep engine surged, and Jeep would not slow down. I reapplied brake and initially it didn't slow my vehicle. After re-reapplying the brakes, the Jeep responded to the braking. On Mar 28, 2023 traveling approximately 20 mph in a vehicle round-about, following a pickup truck which was two car lengths ahead of me and suddenly the pickup stopped for a pedestrian. I applied my brakes on my 2022 Jeep Wrangler and the engine surged, the Jeep sped forward, I reapplied the brake but my Jeep wouldn't stop until it crashed into the rear of the pickup. There was no damage to my Jeep but some rear bumper damage to the pickup. During both incidents the ess (engine start/stop) was disabled.
Driving in the highway at 70 miles an hour. All of the sudden the car start slowing down until the gas pedal was doing nothing. I have to pull over to the side road and turn the car off. And again multiple times to get the gas work again.
I was driving the car normally and it completely shut down while moving. I safely pulled over and I was able to restart it. I then received a text message warning from the vehicle uconnect system, error was "a charge fault has occurred for your Jeep Wrangler unlimited 4xe" this seems to be a very common complaint when I googled the error message.
On 3/1/23 my wife was driving our 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4xe at highway speed in the middle of a 3-lane highway. When the Jeep ran out of electric battery and transitioned to hybrid mode the engine completely shut down and she had almost no time to make it from the middle lane to the side of the highway without accident. Multiple cars and large semis had to break suddenly to avoid rear-ending the Jeep. After getting to the side of the highway the Jeep would not restart or shift to neutral. An extremely dangerous situation and thankfully the police showed up to divert traffic. With all of this said, I took my Jeep to the dealer in December 2022 to fix the loss of motive power recall (zb7), and from this most recent experience, that recall fix either did not work or Jeep should issue another recall. An extremely dangerous situation when the Jeep shuts off at highway speed with no advance warning. Called Jeepwave customer service on 3/1 and case #85607518 was opened with the promise that a Jeep case manager will reach out in 2-3 days to address my safety concerns. My Jeep is currently at the dealership and fingers crossed that when/if I get it back this does not happen again. We feel very lucky with the outcome as it could have been much worse with speeds decreasing from 65 mph to 0 with no advance warning.
This is the 5th complaint I have called into Jeep directly as well as 2 different dealerships. My car is shutting down randomly on the highway. I was notified that it was "fixed" with a software update. This is a current recall that the dealership has said was "fixed". However they refuse to call a star tech or a field tech which Jeep service said was required at this point. I have tried to have this issue fixed multiple times with no positive outcome. Today again my entire Jeep shut down on the highway as I was getting on. I merely tapped the break to allow anther drive to merge and the entire car completely stopped. I personally hit the steering wheel and my dog almost hit the windshield if the bar was not there he would have. The are aware of the severity of the issue and don't believe anything is wrong. I am contacting an attorney for lemon law at this point as the vehicle is clearly dysfunctional.
Most importantly, this occurred about 7 days after the NHTSA 22v-865 recall for this issue was performed. Driving rural paved road at approximately 35 mph. Vehicle abruptly lost all motive power and went to electric only mode with a top speed of about 3-4 mph showing a red turtle icon on dash and “service hybrid electrical vehicle system” and “service charging system” messages. After stopping to investigate, vehicle could not be shifted out of park or moved. Vehicle required tow for repair a few hours before this occurred, vehicle experienced two short intervals of similar loss of power, both of which abated within less than a few seconds. Most concerning is that this occurred after recall 22v-865 was performed, indicating that the safety issue is unresolved by that recall or is an independent issue. Total and unanticipated loss of power creates a safety issue in our hilly and populated terrain.

I was driving a longer distance from las vegas nevada to California victor ville and was coming down in speed and vehicle claimed a sudden stop in power and turned off. After a min of attempting to pull into a close parking lot the Jeep 4xe alarms were going on and off uncontrollably with zero power or capability to shutting off. After a few times of attempting to turn the Jeep on and off and no success I got out of my vehicle, disconnected the battery and reconnected it. We were on the freeway with our infant in the back seat and on a thanksgiving trip back home. We just thought it was random until a recall lawyer reached out about our post on it and mentioned this is a lethal and serious issue. At this moment, we are not driving it as we seen a news channel mention this issue. I say this with the tone of seeking a new solution that is not in this death trap… we as a family would like to find a way to get a refund and away from this completely. We do not feel safe, we just bought this vehicle a month ago.
The contact owns a 2022 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle shook excessively. The failure was described as the death wobble. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact stated that an appointment was scheduled for a diagnostic test. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and several cases were filed. The failure mileage was approximately 6,000.
While driving my vehicle shut off and steering wheel locked up making the vehicle inoperable. Thankfully I was close to home on a side street. I restarted the vehicle and a “please service charging system error” displayed along with a red turtle error light. The vehicle would not travel more than 5mph. I had to park it and have my husband come look at it. It’s scary to think this could have easily happened on a busy highway. Being a hybrid vehicle it was fully charged from the night before.
The contact owns a 2022 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving at 5 mph, the vehicle was shaking and then lost motive power. The failure caused the vehicle to drive off the roadway. Additionally, the vehicle overheated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the water pump and water filter were replaced; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle overheated and failed to accelerate. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where the cylinder head, spark plugs, engine oil filter, and several other unknown parts were replaced. The failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it remained unrepaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 12,000.
In October, my brand new car straight from factory with only 3900 miles on it broke down at a gas station. The dashboard said “service charging system”. The car would not move or allow me to switch gears. It was locked. It took 3. 5 hours for a tow truck to come. The car was in the shop for 30 days. And the dealership determined the issue was related to faulty wiring harness that many Jeep Wrangler 4xe have been having issues with. After the dealership resolved the wiring harness issue, I was delivered the car back home on November 11. After driving the car for 24 hours, the car stopped and broke down on an interstate while I was driving 65 mph. The car came to a sudden stop and the wheels locked. All the cars behind me braked suddenly and I was stuck in the middle of an interstate hoping cars wouldn’t pile up and crash into me. The car dashboard and interior lights were flickering. I kept restarting the car and after 4 min. The car turned back on. This Jeep Wrangler 4xe is repeated having incidents where it’s power shuts completely off while driving and it’s very dangerous. There will be a fatality on day of this problem is not resolved.
Drive at highway got the following error messages "service charging system" and "service transmission. " I also got an error message on my Jeep u connect app "a charge fault has occurred. " I'm lucky to be alive. At the time, I had two-thirds full tank of gas and 6% battery charge (see attachment).
