When parking and trying to put the car in reverse our 2006 Amanti kia lurched forward and accelerated down the street. I was the passenger and had unbuckled my seat belt in preparation of getting out of the car. Seeing that I was not belted in, I leaned over and saw that my husband had his foot on the brakes and not on the accelerator. The brakes did not engage, nor could the car gear down. The car kept accelerating faster and faster. The car was steered around a turn and finally lost control due to the speed and crashed through two tree shrubs, through a closed garage door, took out the main post in the garage, and hit the parked car in the garage. The airbags went off and the car stopped. 911 was called and my husband and I were taken to the hospital. The car was totaled! the car had only 20,000 miles on it.

No lawyer will represent us because our injuries were not severe enough to warrant a suit against kia for product liability.
When starting up from a stop, the car starts-up very slowly for about 4 or 5 seconds, than appears to jump into gear and takes off like a rocket. This occurs several times a month. The car has been taken back to the dealer several times, but it has not happened when they test drove it so nothing has been done to fix the problem. We complained to kia, and have a complaint no. Also but nothing was done.
2006 kia Amanti speed control problem at minimal throttle the car would lurch or move very slow and then would buck mostly in cold weather. Never know when this will happen. Started at 4900 miles and still having problem at 94000. Dealer never can recreate problem. We have had the car in many times and its in today still no fix. I believe this car will get us killed. If you pull out in traffic and it only goes 10 miles an hour guess what's going to happen. Does anyone care NHTSA or kia. I think not!.
Car on occasions lurches and stalls frequently. Wife's car really not sure if throttle, engine, transmission. Just very dangerous.

After pulling the car forward out of the garage in the morning and while stopped to wait for the garage door to close (brake applied, in gear), the vehicle attempts to burst-lurch forward (not touching gas pedal). This seems to happen year-round. The dealership cannot re-produce the problem, but also hasn't kept the vehicle overnight for a cold-start. Have had a couple of near-collisions at the end of my driveway.
Bought 2006 kia Amanti with 6500+ miles driven by deakler manager experienced sudden acceleration upon initial start up two or three times when car seemed to continue ok after a couple of sudden sudden jumps (this when I first tapped accelerator then stoppedc doing this. This has since happened many times not all the time. To date it has happened 9 0r 10 times. On two occasions car would not shift into neutral but surged at a traffic light dispite my efforts to stop car. I shifted to neutral and stopped car the car worked ok when I shifted into drive thereafter but did it a second time a few weeks later. I did the same thing (shifted to neutral) and it functioned ok. The dealer tested car (on computer and insisted it was ok however when it continued I called kia they refereed me to another dealer (ball kia) nand again tested it but could not find anything wrong. However it is still doing this and I have been back several times. Ball mechanic said to keep driving until it does it so often that they can retest it. I am concerned that if it happens when my wife is driving . She may not know what to do and have an accident.
2006 kia Amanti - vehicle will "lag" when the accelerator is depressed on occasions and will also "lurch" forward while trying to brake. There are numerous other Amanti owners nationwide who have experienced this problem. Kia refuses to acknowledge that a problem exists. I have since traded the vehicle in on a Honda. To see the extent of the problem go to "edmunds. Com" website and you will find numerous owners with this problem.
For @ 6 months the car jerks when I am driving. When I press the accelerator it will do 2-3 jerks that are strong enough to jerk you forward in your seat. It feels as if the car has forgotten what gear it is in and it is searching to find it. Or you could describe it as though it is not getting fuel where it is needed even when you have had even pressure on the accelerator. This has mainly occurred while doing about 40 mph going up an incline but it has also occurred on level driving areas while doing around 40 mph. Most recently the car has been jerking in top gear. I have taken it to the dealer 3 times. Just yesterday I picked it up from the dealer who had it for a whole 7 days!! they were able to recreate the problem but can't figure out what it is because it doesn't register on the obc. They had me do a $450. 00 maintenance on it to see if it would help and of course it did not. They said they reprogrammed it but that did not help either. Due to this problem, I have either been without a vehicle for days or have had to rent a very costly rental car for a whole week. The dealer claims they took the car to their residence to test drive it, (approx. 80 miles) but when picking the car up yesterday they were rude enough not to replenish my fuel. When I asked them about it they said it was necessary to do the road tests. As a consumer with a car still under warranty they should have replaced the gas and pay for my car rental. But there has been no help with this situation at all. Now I am scared to drive my car and I depend on it for my profession.

Several times, including today the car has jumped forward or backward in reverse when putting it in gear without stepping on the accelerator. It has occasionally moved very slowly after being put into drive as if the transmission was in fourth gear. Then when pushing further on the gas pedal to get it to move it will suddenly jump into first and take off. Visits to the service area were fruitless due to their not being able to duplicate the event. Therewas apparently nothing stored in the computer, yet it kept happening to us. It was severe enough to cause an accident. There was a problem with kia's drive by wire system, and it should be fixed before someone would be injured.
- the contact stated that while attempting to accelerate from a stop the vehicle would not accelerate. This was an intermittent problem. If the vehicle did accelerate, it would do so very slowly and the rpms were running as though the consumer was traveling at an accelerated speed. The contact stated that this could happen anytime of the day. The contact stated that sometimes when trying to pass another vehicle on the highway at a speed of 60 mph the vehicle didn't accelerate into overdrive. The contact took the vehicle to dealership on several occasions, the most recent being 11/27/06. The contact did have the service mechanic perform a test drive and he did notice the problem with the acceleration. The contact stated that the dealership has contacted her and told her to come in and pick up her vehicle, she was told that they had to reprogram the computer system in the vehicle. Updated 1/22/2007 - the dealer returned the vehicle to the consumert with any repairs being made.
The vehicle has had sporadic problems with 'jack rabbiting', when pressing the accelerator pedal. With a light touch to the gas pedal, the jars literally jumps forward. In each case, it takes about three touches to the gas pedal, to get to 'normal driving. It is a fast acceleration, which causes the tires to 'screech' sometimes and the car to jump forward. The second item that started happening is that the car appeared to be stuck in first and would not shift. The car would not accelerate. This has now caused me to also get run over twice, due to not being able to accelerate. Another problem appeared yesterday. I applied the brake and the car would not immediately stop. The engine revved up, not fast, but it was enough to keep the car moving for a short distance, before it stopped. It scared the hell out of me. I have never experienced something like that with a vehicle.
I never know when my car will start jerking. The car will run fine then out of the blue when I am backing up the car will start jerking. I put it in drive and press all the way on the gas -but there is no power. I press again and the car will start jerking . I have brought it back to the dealer three times, even left it there for 3 days but they are unable to duplicate the problem. This problem has happened more than two dozen times. There is no warning when it will happen. I almost hit a car twice when I was backing up- you are powerless and you can not control the jerking. I pulled out in traffic and the car behind almost hit me because the car would not go. I sure heard his horn blasting at me. There is also a blue flash of light on the dashboard when driving at night. It is a quick flash-then it is gone. I have also brought the car to the dealer about this problem - they can't duplicate it. Something is drastically wrong. I wrote to kia- but did not receive an answer.
I bought my 2005 kia Amanti in oct 2005. On four occasions when going from reverse to drive. . . . . A hesitation took place and the car would not accelerate until the accelerator is pushed all the way down. . . . Then the car would accelerate at top speed. If this ever happened in traffic could cause injury or death. Mentioned this situation to the dealer and nothing can be down unless the "so called" hesitation happened at the time when it was in the shop.
The transmission on the Amanti skips/hesitates going into 2nd gear at about 8 miles per hr. I have returned the vehicle to the dealer twice, each time the dealer telling me there were no problems with the transmission. I am taking it back for the third time today 4-4-06. I am also having a problem with the power steering. It no longer goes from one level of power steering to another. It is always in full power like your parking. The front end is also very loose and banging when I go over the smallest of holes. I have already had my motor mount changed on this vehicle.
Transmission skips going from 2nd to 3rd gear.
