2 Power Train problem of the 2005 Kia Motor Amanti

Failure Date: 10/16/2019

I read about recall on 2007 kia Amanti and the stop lamp switch. It said could make it hard shift from park to gears. I own a 2005 kia Amanti and yesterday afternoon after driving several hours with no problems, I started it out in reverse it was a semi hard shift then put into drive and it was a extremely hard shift. As well the check engine light came on. I also read about a software update that can be done but can not find how to preform the update.

7 Power Train problem of the 2008 Kia Motor Amanti

Failure Date: 01/28/2013

Having the same problem with this car since I purchased it on 12/14/12. It is a 'shifting/gear/transmission issue. Its a 4 yr old car, bought from dealer-kia of bedford, OH. The malfunction indicator lamp comes on after trying to shift into drive, and the car won't move(its revs in place like its in neutral). 1) 1st work order, done on 1/3/13, was to replace the 'front wiring assembly'harness and electrical led light assembly. 2) 2nd work order, done on 1/18/13, replaced the transmission inhibitor switch and cruise control switch. . . 3)the 3rd problem has just occurred yesterday, 1/28/13. Same issue, I was pulling out of a parking spot, going into 'drive' and lost the 'shifting/acceleration' capability. Put car back into park for a few minutes, then tried again and the 'gear' popped into 'drive'. Been happening intermittently since yesterday. The 'malfunction indicator lamp' has remained on since this 3rd incident on 1/28/13. This is a problem that doesn't seem to be fixable. There is a basic warranty that is still active ~ 7 months or @18,000 miles left!.

8 Power Train problem of the 2005 Kia Motor Amanti

Failure Date: 09/18/2012

I absolutely love this car. However, I am afraid to drive it most of the time do to intermittent problems with acceleration. At times, when I step down on the gas nothing happens, then all of a sudden the car takes off like a rabbit. On a trip to south dakota, after using the blinker to change lanes, the blinkers went crazy, both on at the same time, then from one side to the other, I couldn't get them to stop and the esc light was flashing. I pulled over and shut the car off and back on and all was good ,for a few more miles anyway. I had to do this several times on my way home. This was scary as I was 1500 miles from home. Haven't had that issue since and that was 4 months ago (no engine light for codes at this point). Now, all of a sudden the car is running like crap. Engine light finally came on and the code is stating misfire in #3 spark plug. The car is running very poorly, undriveable. I have had nothing but issues with this car since I bought it a year ago. I have read changing the throttle positioning sensor and updating the computer software may be what's wrong. However, trying to convince kia to do this is another ball game. There is also a high priority recall on the stop lamp switch, recall #sc077. Also see technical service bulletin #kt2007030801. There are numerous complaints about the acceleration issue, some involving accidents. Why wont kia acknowledge this and offer a recall on the tps and a reflash on the computer??? all we get is the run-a-round and the shop not hearing of such a thing. Really???? come on!!!!!.

9 Power Train problem of the 2004 Kia Motor Amanti

Failure Date: 07/19/2012

My check engine light comes on and my car loses power fast no matter what speed I am going. I put my foot on the gas and the rpm's go up and I am only able to drive at a speed of 20mph. At times my car will drive at a normal speed and the check engine light will be on . Its very strange. I've taken it to the dealer and they said that it needed a new catalytic converter. It was replaced under warranty. One week later the same symptoms and another out of pocket expense of over $1,000. 00 and another part. The problem still exists months later. Each time with a different diagnosis by the dealer. My mechanic diagnosed the problem when it first happened with his meter and it read electronic throttle body. I told this to the dealer months ago and thousands of dollars ago.

10 Power Train problem of the 2005 Kia Motor Amanti

Failure Date: 05/07/2012

Sudden acceleration. I was slowing for a traffic light I expected to turn red. I had my foot on the floor boards, away from the accelerator, letting the care slow by itself. The light did turn red and I had to apply the brakes. I keep my left foot to the left of the brakes on the floor board. As I applied the brakes with my right foot I felt my left foot so I knew I applied the brakes. Car accelerated. Only putting the transmission I neutral and flooring the brake pedal with both feet prevented a wreck. No warning lights came on. In October of 2011 the dealer replaced ignition coil; packs spark plugs and spark plug wires. However on 5/7/12 the problem returned- worse than ever before the car finally stopped tachometer reading was 4700 rpm. Doctors often ask patients to rate pain open a scale of 1-10. This incident would rate an 8. Please issue a recall before more people experience this and could kill people. Or a buyback for what the buyer paid including all loan fees and interest. . I also request a federal directive requiring all cars to have brake overrides and for a free retrofit of all car models with a history of this problem. I have only 68,000 miles on the car and 66,800 when I bought the car.

11 Power Train problem of the 2008 Kia Motor Amanti

Failure Date: 01/04/2012

At 65 mph on a busy freeway -without any warning, engine died to idle speed and no power. Try crossing 3 lanes of fast traffic with no power and rapid deceleration ! fortunately no impacts but some terrible near misses. The check engine light illuminated . The code was p2135 -throttle position switch failed. That caused p2106 &p1295 "limp home mode"-which should be changed to " killed in action(kia) while limping mode". If you check the internet, this is a well known problem across a range of kia and Hyundai vehicles. There are TSB's for it. Just search "2135 kia" or p2135 Hyundai". The retail price for the TSB repair is only $165. It requires replacing the defective tps and a reflash of the ecm. It is free under warranty. Why not make this a recall? the defect is widespread, easy and cheap to repair and potentially deadly -why not a recall? dealer was excellent . Fixed the problem -they were very familiar with the issue.

12 Power Train problem of the 2008 Kia Motor Amanti

Failure Date: 12/12/2011

While driving at 40mph the transmission made a hard shift. . . There was a noticeable jump. Dealer said they couldn't duplicate the problem and they would only drive it around the block.

13 Power Train problem of the 2005 Kia Motor Amanti

Failure Date: 09/23/2011

Twice within 2 miles when I applied brakes engine sped up instead. The only thing preventing two accidents was putting the car in neutral till it settled down.

14 Power Train problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Amanti

Failure Date: 01/15/2011

The contact owns a 2006 kia Amanti. The contact was driving 40 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer. The manufacturer was not notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 78,000 and the current mileage was 82,000.

15 Power Train problem of the 2004 Kia Motor Amanti

Failure Date: 01/01/2010

The vehicle surges while accelerating. The problem occurs sporadically but has done it consistently for over 5 years. Every time I take it to the dealer they can't find anything wrong and nothing is done. This vehicle has an electronic throttle.

16 Power Train problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Amanti

Failure Date: 12/05/2008

Car would not pick up speed as we were leaving from a complete stop took car in 2008 and found the ignition sensor was bad, it was replace car ran good, 2012 car starting with slow speed at acceleration, changed spark plugs, throttle sensor, 2 ignition sensor. Nothing helped. Took car to dealer, kia kept car for 3 days and could not find the trouble. Kia dealer called and notified me it was best to trade in car because it was not worth fixing. As I read reports from other kia car owners it seems everyone has this problem with the Amanti but as I was told and many other car owner are informed kia dealers can not find the problem. Kia needs to find a fix to this problem as a kia owner when I need to pick up speed and can't makes you wonder it someone going to hit me.

17 Power Train problem of the 2005 Kia Motor Amanti

Failure Date: 06/15/2008

My 2005 kia Amanti has a problem as when driving it will lurch and lag "bump". It has been in the dealers shop many times for a total of 38 days. The dealer did replace the transmission with a rebuilt unit. The problem still exists and the dealer says he cannot duplicate the problem. So he cannot fix it. A web site has many complaints of this nature and the same problem exists; the dealers cannot duplicate the problem; so they cannot fix it. A mechanic at the shop said that kia knows they have a problem; but does not know how to fix it. The problem occurs when backing out of a parking space and when the car is driving at about 40 mph. The lurch has occurred at stop signs and causes the car to jump and if I had not been alert I would have hit the car in front of me. The same problem occurs when backing out of a parking place and the rear view is blocked by the vehicle and if a peron or vehicle is in the blind spots; injury could occur.

18 Power Train problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Amanti

Failure Date: 12/26/2007

Smelled plastic like smoke inside vehicle, rolled down window , vehicle accelerated with foot on brake pressing as hard as possible, accelerator pedal went down. Car continued to accelerate until striking a tree and rolling over.

19 Power Train problem of the 2005 Kia Motor Amanti

Failure Date: 04/18/2007

Shortly after getting the car, it intermittently would fail to accelerate when the accelerator was pushed. By pushing it all the way to the floor it sometimes would then accelerate excessively, or by letting up on the accelerator and reapplying it a similar event would happen. Sometimes the car just muddles along very slowly in traffic until one of the above actions is taken, and sometimes pushing to the floor still does not make it accelerate. This has occurred in traffic at times causing an unsafe event due to surprise when expecting to clear traffic etc. Early on it was returned to dealer on at least two occasions for lengths of several days each time and we also involved company reps, but they offered no solution but said it seemed to be fine. Car continues to act up and notice that others have complained of a similar event on a website we monitor.
