1 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2021

2013 kia Optima ex with 71k miles. Car had a very slow start. Trouble light came on. Had left lights on for about 2 hours so thought that was the issue. Seemed okay so drove home. Notices slight gasoline smell in cabin. No more driving that day. Took to local shop. Code reader came back as fuel pump failure. Did some research and noticed many with same issue on this make/model/year and a recall or two as well. VIN check returned no outstanding recalls. Called kia customer service. Was told my VIN was associated with a recall in 2018 (SC 147) but 'passed the test". Sc 172 was issued later for a call back of those vehicles that had engines replaced under SC 147 for a high pressure fuel pipe issue. I honestly think my Optima is currently having whatever the issue was under SC 147 but since it tested okay in 2018 - OH well! since the fuel pump warranty expired in 2018, I guess I'm on my way to an almost $1,000 repair! seems like kia should allow getting the original service call issue looked at again free of charge to see if it is now an issue. Disappointed.

2 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2020

Whenever trying to fuel my vehicle, the pump would click off within seconds. I would have to stand holding the pump and reclick the pump over and over. This process would take 10 to 15 minutes to fuel the vehicle. After several trips to the kia dealer trying to get this fixed. They eventually replaced the whole fuel system. From time to time, while pumping gas, I still have to stand by the pump because the fuel pump will click up as if my tank is full.

3 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2019

I was driving down the highway with cruise control set on 75 with 67 miles to empty when all sudden the car start slowing speed I looked cruise control had shut off check engine light came on the just went dead on the side of road the will turn on turn over to wanna crank but won't catch to crank I called the dealer ship and explained he she said she sure it's fuel pump because they just installed 2 this week on the same car.

4 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2019

Check engine light came on, took car to local o'reilly auto parts for them to see what the problem was. Gave code p0091 which yeilded part pr536 - fuel pressure regulator. Called rick case kia, duluth, GA (absolute terrible service/customer service, numerous times). . . Car isn't under warranty, will not cover. . . Immediately said o'reilly's was wrong - it's the entire fuel pump - quoted $800 to change. Called a second time, spoke with someone different, said $600 to change fuel pressure regulator. Car isn't running any different. Check engine light came on about $170k mile mark.

5 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2018

My car began to smell like gas when driving and my car started jerking, and making a weird noise. . So I pulled over on the side of the road. It smelled like fuel through my air vents while driving, and when I popped the hood to look under it with my boyfriend there was a leak, and it was spewing out fuel out of the pump. What was the scariest part about it is there was no warning light or any thing that told me there was a fuel leak we had to find out for ourselves. I had called kia to see if they would replace it because it basically was a brand new car with only 60,000 miles on it and they said it was not under original warranty so there was nothing they could do for me. I had to buy the part myself which costed me around 500 dollars, then I had to buy a fuel line which was another 50, then get it replaced which costed me another 200. I was extremely upset because it was basically a brand new car doing this. . And I want to be reimbursed for my troubles. I was out of work, couldn't drive my vehicle, and had to pay for a problem that was not my fault. It was the manufactures fault. I am glad I caught it when I did and pulled over on the side of the road because my car boyfriend and I could have bursted into flames. I am extremely upset. I am never buying another kia again unless they reimburse me for the troubles they have caused me and many others. I am scared to drive my kia now knowing that anything could happen to it, or that my fuel pump may go out another time. The engine is definitely faulty and it has caused me and my boyfriend fear, and anxiety. We are scared to see what may happen next.

6 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 09/11/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2013 kia Optima. While driving 65 mph, the contact encountered a very intense odor of fuel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed not to drive the vehicle because the fuel pump was leaking fuel and could cause a fire. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 133,000.

7 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2017

Check engine light is on code reads high pressure fuel pump. When starting the car it is very sluggish and has fluttering rpms for the first 10 15 minutes when driving the car is jerky and hesitant to accelerate. There is currently a active recall on the high pressure fuel pump but my VIN is not listed under the recall even though it was listed on the engine recall. Was told I did not need a new engine but was given an oil change abs new oil pan and the problem started shortly after.

8 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2015

My vehicle has 80k miles on it and is serviced meticulously. I lost all power trying to accelerate onto the freeway and was almost ran down by a dump truck. I was able to limp my vehicle to the kia dealership to find out the problem was the high-pressure fuel pump. I assumed that it would be covered under the 100k warranty only to find out that even though the car won't run without the fuel pump, it is not covered under the powertrain warranty. I can only assume that they have eliminated this problem from warranty because there have been so many cases of high-pressure pump failures on kia's. . I will never buy another kia product!!.

9 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2014

About 1 month ago my fuel pump went out. I have a 2013 kia Optima. I was at 62,000 miles when it went out, which meant it was not covered under warranty. I had it replaced at the local dealership, it cost around $800. 00 to replace. Now less that 2 months later I am having some hesitation and jerking in the car. Had the car troubleshoot and it's not the temp sensor. The car is too new for things like this to happened. Once I get rid of it, I will never buy another kia, or will I allow my family and friend to.
