Over a weeks time,I noticed my steering wheel was turned like maybe I needed an alignment and it started pulling to the left so bad that I had to force the steering wheel to the right so I wouldn't wreck into the median on the interstate. I could only go about 45 or 50 mph or it would start shaking the entire car and was absolutely impossible to control it on the road. Had it looked at and at the bottom control arm that bolts to the subframe had rusted out and the right side was on the verge of doing the same! the FL and fr tires, that I had gotten brand new 5 months ago, were wore down to the wire!!! I'm surprised I had the chance to get it home and get it looked at before it rusted all the way through! I was so blessed I didnt have a horrible accident.

I have had to change lower control arm inner and outer tie rod and cv axle 2 time because parts are cheap and slightest amount of force such as hitting a curb causes massive suspension damage. Both times car was running unber 20 miles an hour and hit a curb and it destroyed suspension. Second time tie rod broke while driving down the road and lost control and ended up hitting guard rail and same thing destroyed suspension.

A reputable auto shop noticed. Why my steering was not correct. Both lower control arms with integrated ball joint is causing the steering to be extremely loose and not even an alignment can fix this problem. Both control arms will need to be replaced.

Tl- the contact owns a 2013 kia Optima. The contact stated that when driving at low speeds at approximately 30 mph the vehicle's warning light would illuminate advising them to discontinue driving the vehicle and the engine warning light would illuminate as well. The contact would have to turn off the vehicle and turn the vehicle back on for the warning lights to no longer be illuminated. The contact also stated that while attempting to come to a stop the vehicle it would shake and hesitate to stop appropriately. The contact took the vehicle to the dealership (archer kia located at 11614 southwest fwy, houston, TX 77031 phone number: 888-879-5194) who repaired a part of the vehicle associated with the hydraulics, specific parts were not identified. The failure continued. The contact then took the vehicle to another dealership ( joe meyers kia located 16484 NW fwy, houston, TX 77040 phone number: 713-587-9940) who replaced the upper and lower control arms and ball joints, however, the failures reoccured. I just got my 2002 kia Optima and it just recently started having issues. I was driving down the road and my car started to slightly wander to the left, I thought ok. . It needs an alignment. So then it started jerking to the right, so bad I got pulled off to the side of the road and couldn't control it. I parked my car in a parking lot til my bf could come look at it, and I had him drive it home and the same thing happened to him. He looked at every possibility at what it could be as he is a mechanic and said lower control arm. It has been sitting in my yard for a week. It is not safe to drive. I found out it had a recall back in 2009, so I called my local kia dealer and they said it was part of the recall but it has been fixed- I'm wondering how it was fixed if it is doing the same exact thing everyone's complaints I have seen is doing/ I am at a halt not knowing what to do with my car, I have small children and refuse to drive this car. Please help.
Received the voluntary recall notice to have the underbody components sprayed with what might be called a rust inhibitor or preventative, so I made an appointment and took the car in for service. Car was at the dealership 8/24/15 for the application when the service manager came into the waiting room and said that the left rear lower control arm is completely rusted through, split and deemed the car unsafe to drive. Took a look and sure enough, rusted completely through and split down the back side. Glad kia decided to do the rust inhibitor recall or I would have never known about the problem until the arm actually disintegrated and broke. This volunatry "recall" is like closing the barn door after the horses have escaped, and to continue to build a car with inferior parts, a coating isn't going to help the rust problem.

We own a 2002 kia Optima- found out there was a recall- the recall was corrision to the subframe that could lead to problems with the control arm. I was told that the car was inspected in 2010 and the recall was taken care of at that time. We bought the car from a private owner in 2014. 2015 went to get new tires on the car and discount tire told us that they couldn't do an alignment because there is an issue with the control arm. We found out to repair the control are it would be over $500. When I called the kia hotline to inquire about the recall, I was told that we would need to take the car to a kia dealership to have the car reviewed by their service men to see if there is any issues with the subframe and control arm. I'm concerned my concern is not going to get adressed. 7/11/2016 jp.
Rear lower control arm rusted through and broke in half causing it to drag on the ground and the tire to push outward.

I was leaving my driveway and drove approximately 2 car lengths, my car stopped and started shaking, it wouldn't go forward or backwards. Turned the emergency flashers on as I placed the car in park. I got out and went around to the passenger side of my car; the wheel was against the firewall. I found a recall 2-15-13, called kia customer service, they sent a towing company; in which, towed my car to mike smith kia in paducah, ky. They found that my lower control arm had separated from the sub-frame due massive corrosion. Replaced the sub-frame & drive axle,2 new tires. Picked my Optima 3-20-2013. 3-27-2013, noticed power steering leak, called set-up an appointment to have it checked out for 4-4-2013. April 3, 2013 my brakes go out! jesse hodges (mike smith kia) has my car towed to their facility; in which, the brake line cracked my the gas tank. I paid to replace the brake & gas lines, they repaired the power steering leak! the problem now abnormal wear of the tires they replaced from the recall. Mike smith kia will replace my tires but wants me to pay for the front-end alignment; in which, was to be done when replacing the sub-frame. I feel this is their responsibility because they failed to properly repair my car. I have been in contact with kia corporation, they seem to be having problems in receiving copies of my file from mike smith kia to resolve this. Please help me resolve this!! (recall case number: k2434963 with kia corporation).

I have a 2002 kia Optima that the VIN is not one of the vehicles that is covered by your recall NHTSA campaign id number: 09v183000 which states "internal corrosion of the front subframe. Over time, such subframe corrosion near the connection to the lower control arm can lead to wheel misalignment and/or other noticeable stress in steering. . . ". You have it listed as states with difficult winters and the use of road salt. I live in louisville, ky. Not one of the named states. But. I guarantee you that this same corrosion can be caused by the water coming from the air conditioner running directly onto these parts. The back side of subframe has rust holes in it. This recall needs to be expanded to any and all kia Optimas that have the ac water running there due to manufacture design. I have pictures that I can send to you showing this corrosion. I tried to get it aligned at a kia store and they said "lower control arm bracket on pass side is rusted and broken. Pass side wheel is pushed back and tires on front are angled. " how was the 36,538 vehicles determined ? was it from the state that the car was sold in ?.
My son was driving our 2002 kia Optima and wheel assembly fell off. The whole frame rusted from inside out causing the lower control arm to fall off.
While driving my 2001 kia Optima on north interstate 65 to indiana, in four lane traffic my kia right front wheel nearly came off due to corrosion of the sub-frame and lower wheel control arm causing separation. My husband and I could have both been kill along with many other people. I loved my car and I praise the kia, now they don't care about me or other people in kentucky. They want fix my car but most of the states around my state is doing so, they are thousands of recalls on all other car's I am sending a letter to the president of the u. S. A. I will not stop until ky or kia is not allowing vehicle in ky not be in the recalls. Tells me people in ky just don't matter to kia or ky , we are people to, and this car would have last me a life time I am sure if this had not happen. Just because my VIN number. Was not in the system , even though 2001 - 2004 kia Optima has been recall ky lags behind and does not care about me. My car is just junk now and I can not buy another. I will continue to spread the word about how they are treating me I will never give up.

On February 12, 2008 my car began to drive very erratically with snow on the road. It was difficult to keep the car from steering off the road. It wasn't just road conditions. I thought something was broke. I took the car to the shop the same day. Initially the technician stated I need and alignment. I had just got 4 new tires and alignment in December 2007. I stated this condition just started today. The technician when back and inspected the car in more detail. He returned an said that the alignment could not be done to get it within specifications. He took me to the lift where the car was and showed me why the car could not be aligned. The lower control arm assembly was separating from the sub frame or engine cradle of the car, because the frame was completely rusted through. He technician stated this wasn't in a very safe condition. He also noted a 7 years old should not show this type of decay in a major structural component. I asked the technician to get the alignment as close to the manufacturers specification so I return home safe. Internet research shows the replacement part costing $1400. The engine and steering components attached to this part. I will be contacting the local kia dealer for a labor cost estimate. An internet search shows that other owners have experienced this problem.
