The engine and all electrical shuts down without warning. This happened three times in heavy traffic and nearly caused an accident. The engine stops running and the electrical components turn off which shuts down power steering and power brakes. Each time this has happened the electrical is disabled and the car is completely dead with zero response when the ignition key is turned; no dash lights, no starter, no power. After the first incident the plugs and coil packs were changed out. After the second incident the fuse block was changed out which was said to have been overheating. After the third incident the car was parked and has not been driven since. After the "dead" car is towed and it sits for a couple of hours it will start again and run for indeterminable amount of time before shutting down.

On two occasions my vehicle (in motion) has gotten smoke, I smelled burnt, and it was electric shock when I touched the board, I have already reported it to the agency that corresponds to me, however they have not solved my problem, I am afraid that it could burn my vehicle, my phone number is 11 52 1 8341245605.

My airbag light had come on. Then when I go to gasbuddy, it states that there is a recall involving the airbag on a 2006 kia Rio that was made from February 20th 2005 to 2007. However my VIN number shows that there is no recall on my car. I think it's more than a coincidence that there's a recall and my sensor is on. If someone is killed because of this sensor OH, I will be suing kia, and anyone else that blatantly disregarded my complaint.

Vehicle was in motion turning right decelerating as I turned. Once I turned, acceleration pedal was disengaged and no acceleration was happening. Braking system was completely locked up and could not press the brakes. When I coasted to a stop, there was visible fire coming from underneath the engine compartment. Temp gage never registered as high while driving. Within a matter of a couple minutes, the whole car was engulfed in flames as I waited for the fire department to arrive. They said there was no visible fluid leaking on the ground and did not know the cause of the fire. Car was maintained regularly for oil. Had issues with the car overheating and took it to kia and they could not find anything wrong with it and released me. Car is totaled now.
Problems: 1) ac stops working and only blows warm air, 2) windshield wipers does not work. Both front and back 3) front lights does not work.

I was driving home work on the freeway and had only been on the road for 15 minutes. It was rush hour traffic and had my window down when I noticed and electrical burning smell. I thought it might be from from something outside and kept driving. The smell got stronger and stronger. After just a couple minutes of further driving smoke started pouring in from my defrost vents. I got the vehicle to the side of the road and just as I got out flames were coming from under the hood of the car and it was totally engulfed in seconds. The cause of yet unknown and under investigation from my insurance company. The vehicle has never needed any work done to it and just passed the maryland state inspection for registration 6 weeks prior to this happening.
Electrical issues, constantly broken air conditioner, engine problems, spark plug issues, coil issues, 3 batteries in 2 years, loss of power in the middle of the freeway.
When driving, the car stalls for no reason (there is fuel in the car, has regular oil changes, and a brand new battery). It takes a couple minutes before the car will restart. While on the highway, the engine light will come on and then turn right off, but the rpm gauge stops working even though I am still driving. There is a jerking motion when that happens. This happens on city streets and on the highway. It is becoming unsafe and the dealership cannot replicate the situation. All they do is run the code but nothing comes up. This has been happening since the beginning of November 2016 and has happened every day since then. This is a safety issue because the car could stall anytime while driving and I could be seriously hurt and other drivers could get hurt.

Just bought a 2013 Rio with 28,000 miles on it on 9/2/16. The car sat in our driveway all last week because we were on vacation, so we maybe put 100 miles on it and drove it 4 times. Drove 20 minutes round trip to the post office yesterday, parked in driveway and went back into house to work. Wife came home from work about 10 minutes later and came running in the house saying the new car is on fire. Called 911 and before fire department was able to get there, the flames were as high as our second floor windows. Car was parked about 10-15 feet away from house, but the heat damaged part of our house as well. I have contacted insurance, but I really feel this is a kia issue / problem, and we really should not have to use insurance to replace the car. This car is still under manufacture warranty, and they need to be held accountable. Then last night after the tow company came, we started researching this and have found many, many 2012-2014 kia's doing this. I logged a complaint on your kia's website, but have not got a response back yet, and yes, I feel I should get a response over the weekend. Our car burst into flames, damaged part of our house from the heat, and it could of been much worse, especially if I parked the car in the garage yesterday. Would really like to hear from kia, or other owners that have had this problem. It seems that with all of the google hits about kia's catching fire, there should have been a recall on any of the models that have had this problem, and get them either fixed, or off of the road, at kia's expense.
Everything seemed okay while driving then suddenly car began to shake, sputter, and did not want to accelerate. Loses power sometimes when stopped. Check engine light flashed then stayed on. Car unsafe and unable to be driven. After 4 weeks, 2 tune ups including new plugs, coil packs checked although two were recently replaced, fuel injetors checked, fuel system flushed, and throttle body cleaned. When checked diagnostic code keeps reading random misfire. Car has been at the shop (not dealership) for 2 days when they finally figured out the problem and its relating to the technical service bulletin affecting the electrical system. This shop has done all the work and feels that since kia is aware of the TSB they should fix the problem. However the kia dealership that I purchased the car from states they need to look at it and if its electrical its $100 an hour. Very frustating because of all the money I have put in this car since I drove it off the lot 1 year ago. Called kia's 800 customer service number and they also state that I need to have it checked out by kia despite knowing the issue. Car will be towed back to my home for now.
On2 occasions I requested my service department look at the radio when the car was taken in for the second check. Both times the service department stated he had forgotten but sure it was nothing to worry about newer cars are sensitive a pump in the road can make the radio jump second time the tire pressure as well as the radio jumping I was told the same nothing to worry about they will be sure to check it on the next visit. April 2015 I hit a pot hole the clutch hit the floor. I immediately pull into a gas station to add fluid to the chamber. The chamber was full. I pumped the clutch it came to the top like it is suppose to I drove home cautiously. The next day went to leave clutch on the floor. I had the car towed in. I then called my insurance company&made a claim. Then I called the service department. I was told it would be days before my car would be looked at. The weekend came& went by Tuesday they had good news & bad! one was covered the other not! how much? $1,200 . They explain I needed a clutch & a slave cylinder. I agued I have driven stick all my life and at 14000 no way. They argued with me for a few minutes. I then told them I'd send in my own specialist because there was no way. Look at it again call me when you have the real issue. One day later they call come get your car! what yesterday it needs $1,200 in damages now it is a miracle it needs nothing? they replied come pick up your car. I need to call my insurance. They replied you reported it to your insurance? I hit a pothole. My insurance went out & found no issue due to the pit hole but later I found out they did see or found out it had mechanical issue. I a had picked up my car. 3 weeks later driving 75 miles per hour in moderate rain fast lane. The smell of wires burning, clutch on floor, no gears, steering like no poer steering hard, tight 7 liight's. In sort they leined my car.
Tl-the contact owns a 2013 kia Rio. The contact stated that while driving at 20 mph, the vehicle would jerk violently accelerating without warning, then loses power. The lights on the instrument panel illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but could not fine a failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 64,252. Aw.
Tl the contact owns a 2015 kia Rio. While driving approximately 30-40 mph, the vehicle turned off independently. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times whenever the gear shift lever moved from automatic to manual transmission mode. The contact stated that there was an inadvertent switch from automatic to manual mode with the slightest of touch to the gear shift lever. The vehicle was taken to jeff wyler fairfield Cadillac kia Nissan located at 5815 dixie hwy, fairfield, OH 45014, (513) 682-2500 to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the automatic/manual mode was a feature of the vehicle and that there was no way to remove the feature. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted or notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 12,437.
Took my car to get fixed, and looked at the 2nd cly. Apparently, tons of people are having problems with the 2nd cly after looking online about it. I had them try all my coils and its not a coil problem. I had all spark plugs changed and tune up was done. There is absolutely no reason my 2nd cly to be messed up. . . ? kia I'm so disappointed in my car, why are so many problems coming up? my car is not even 5 years old!!! I expect to get answers on this and it be taken care of, I will not be paying for something when I've done my part in maintain g my car.
This car has a tendency to rev up to the red line on the tach - sometimes when you start it, sometimes when you are in traffic, sometimes when you are stopped at a traffic signal. I have witnesses to this fact and it is making me feel very unsafe when I am driving it. I almost got in two accidents because of this condition. It may appear if I am driving down the highway a couple times this occured and the only way that this is remedied is turning off the ignition and restarted it, somtimes you have to do this 2 or 3 times. Other times it will happen when you start the engine it will go right to the top of the tach if you do not turn off ignition. It has also happened at a traffic light stop I felt the car increasing in revs while I was stopped, thank god I turned off the ignition before it crashed into the car in front of me. I have idea when it will occur. I looked on the web and found other instances of kia owners having the same problem. It has been back at the dealership where I purchased it, twice, new and they tell me they cannot change any parts unless the problem can be duplicated. I filed a complaint with kia on line and no response except take it back to the dealer! I want the problem repaired I do not care what they have to do to make it safe as it stands now it is a hazard to drive and an accident waiting to happen! it sometimes also feels like you have speed control as you are going down the highway it will speed up. I just want it repaired!.

All of the brake lights quit working at the same time. Done a search to see if there was any other problems like mine and found 3 other owners with the same problem. It has been in a mechanic shop for 2 weeks now and I have just got done talking with him this morning about it and he said that he has not been able to pin point the problem. I feel that this is a safety issue that needs to be dealt with by kia.

The 'airbag' dash light illuminates and the dealership has determined the cause of the failure is the sensor assembly located in the front passenger's seat cushion. This problem was addressed by a 'voluntary safety recall campaign' conducted by kia affecting "2006-2008 my Rio occupant classification system mat" but according to the local dealership my kia Rio manufactured in April 2007 was not included in this recall even though the problem/diagnosis/fix is identical.
Tl-the contact owns a 2014 kia Rio. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was able to restart and resumed to normal. The failure recurred twice. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 10,000. Djr.

My 2012 kia Rio caught fire the other day. I pulled into the driveway, went into the house to put my laptop down. I had shut the car off. Came back out to grab some stuff from the trunk and the car was smoking from the hood. Thought it had overheated. Pulled hood release and went to open the hood when I realized flames were coming from the right side of the engine area. Tried putting the fire out with a garden hose & was instructed by 911 to get away from the vehicle. Car ended up bursting into flames. Fire department had to come and extinguish. Called kia and they are taking their time at responding. I am concerned that this may be a bigger problem and effect more people. Putting lives at risk for injury and possible death.
I was stopped for a stop sign at an intersection when flames shot up from underneath the hood! there was no warning at all that anything was even wrong w/this car! no lights on the dashboard. . . No warning! I quickly put it into park and jumped out. The fire department was there in a matter of minutes. I am in the process of reporting this incident to the consumer affairs in rivine, cal. I still do not know what happened to cause such a fire!.
The contact owns a 2013 kia Rio. The contact was driving approximately 60 mph when the lights on the instrument panel illuminated as the power steering suddenly malfunctioned. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the electrical harness to the computer was replaced. The failure recurred twice after the repairs. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 70.
Going out to dinner, about 1 mile away from home smell coming from car. Turned down a side street, smoke coming from heat/air adjustment area on dash. Stopped car, fire started coming out of the area where you adjust the heat/air. Before fire department could get there the entire car was on fire. This was a total loss. Thankfully we were able to get out of the car. I fear it would have been far worse if we had been on the express way at the time.
No heat or air, at first I could bump the dash and it would come on, but now nothing. Purchased a new blower motor but still doesn't work. So has to be bad wires, because nothing has power to it. I have no way to defrost/unfog windshield and had to stop in the middle of the road because I could not see anything.
The contact owns a 2012 kia Rio. The contact stated that at engine startup, all of the electrical components failed to work the vehicle was taken to the dealer four times for the same failure. The dealer confirmed that an electrical fire had occurred in the steering column. The manufacturer was contacted however, the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 2,315 and the current mileage was 4,318.
When I put my car in drive or park my doors automatic lock or unlock. Several times it neither locked or unlocked when put in park or drive. I took it to the dealership several times of course it did not malfunction then. I called kia corporate office but no recalls or complaints were found. I believe it is a safety issue if my doors not unlocking.
First the car was pulling to the driver side went to the local firestone shop and they told me the air was too low. It was only 25psi they fixed all my tyres and checked all the tire pressure then the car started pulling on the passenger's side suddenly. Started getting jerks on the steering wheel. Went to the dealer and told the alignment was off. This was a brand new kia Rio 2011 not even 6 months old. Also the didn't show me any indication that my drivers side front wheel has less air. The tire was at 25psi and it didn't show me any indication on my speed odometer nor the tpms light turned one nor the low pressure light cam up.
Brake light switch stopped working on 2007 kia Rio5.
I bought my 03 kia Rio in 04 and within a mo. Have had problems ever since. I took it to the dealership every month for the first 2yrs when it was still in warranty. There was always something constantly wrong or breaking. The tail pipe rattled extremely loud to the point of slightly shaking the car, randomly when I would came to a stop. It was so loud that people in other cars could hear it and stare. Of course the repair shops could never find the problem. I finally gave up ever having it fixed. I've paid 7 times to have the auto windows fixed but finally gave up because they would only work about two days before braking again. The car always had issues accelerating and would stain making noises shake a bit then after 10 seconds make a pop pop noise and finally start moving faster. Which again could never be fixed. The car also had horrible suspension. Every little pump made the car bounce and squeak loudly. Also could never be fixed. I think I've spent more time in the shop having the car repaired then I actually did driving it. Every time I blinked something else was broken I replaced almost ever piece of the car; battery twice, all four tires twice, head lights, etc those are just the small things I've also had the car completely brake down about 6 times with major repairs. Now my car is completely dead 4/17/11 the timing belt snapped and destroyed the engine so I have to buy a new engine and timing belt all which cost more then the car itself the car only has 80,000 miles on it so that tells you how much I actually got to drive it in the last 8yrs. I made sure to constantly keep up on maintenance as well. I will never buy a kia again its a weight of my shoulders to get rid of such a piece of [xxx]. Kias are made with such cheap materials and made so poorly that everything on them brakes and falls off. Please anyone reading this don't buy a kia you will regret it. I just want to save someone else from a nightmare. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I own a 2007 kia Rio and the brake light have just gone out. I check the fuse and light bulbs and both were ok. The ac/ heat shut off and the door will not always unlock.
The contact owns a 2004 kia Rio. The contact was driving at various speeds. The engine completely stalled and the entire electrical system failed without warning. The engine would restart after waiting for approximately one minute. The failure occurred on several different occasions. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they were unable to locate the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.
