Equipment Problems of Kia Motor RIO - part 2

Vehicle pulls hard to left since purchased. Had in shop 3 times, but problem still exists. It was aligned and rechecked. Tires were switched on the front (by another shop) and it still has issues of pulling. Dealership refuses to diagnose the trouble, except for the front end alignment and says they voided last repair order (because they did nothing). Took to another shop and they went through it completely, even test-driving it. Verfied a hard pull to the left. They were the shop that transferred front wheels to correct the problem. It helped somewhat, but still pulling. Now dealership says it must be the tires and urges us to get help from them.

Auto theft alarm listed as standard. There is no theft detection at all. There is only a bogus flashing led that does nothing when parked. This is fraud.

The contol post for lights, turn signal, and high beams is too sensitive. To control the lights, you twist the top of lever. To turn on turn signals, you flip the lever up or down. To turn on brights, the lever goes forward. To turn of lights, the lever is pulled back. The issue. . . . . If you have brights on, when you pull lever back to dim lights, the top automatically twists to shut off the headlights entirely. Dangerous dangerous dangerous. My husband doesn't have this problem, but he has longer fingers and his fingers hit the lever more at the base where nothing twists. I have shorter women's fingers and they can't reach all the way down the lever. I have since adjusted how I dim the brights by reacing under the lever, (close to steering column), to pull the lever back. This is very uncomfortable and tends to cause me to make the turn signal come on, which could cause its own traffic accident. My remedy would be to make the headlights twist in the opposite direction for on off, or make the switch for headlights have a little more resistance.

My car is only 3 years old 70k miles. . I have regularly serviced and never had any issues until all of a sudden I was driving I heard a sound and my hood started smoking. My car quickly came to a stop and wouldn’t turn back on. The engine block threw a rod and left a giant hole in my engine. Kia is refusing to repair and my insurance won’t cover saying this is an engine malfunction. Thank god I was able to get to safety, something like this is dangerous and not what I wanted when I bought a kia.

Trunk will not close. This happened in 2017 and the car was repaired under warranty. It happened again yesterday. Kia has an active recall on some vehicles for this issue mine is not included. . . However it is the exact same issue. I live in florida and the recall is an issue with heat damaging the safety latch. Kia needs to extend the recall to cover all impacted vehicles.

My vehicle was stolen while parked with a club on the steering wheel then damaged and abandoned. I was without a vehicle for a month during repairs. It has been reported on the news that kias are easily stolen due to the type of ignition system. A recall to fix this is need immediately!.

On 09/08/2022 my 2019 kia Rio was stolen due to a flaw in the ignition that allows thieves to easily start the vehicle with a phone charger. See baltimore city police report 5220902309. The steering wheel column does not have a lock therefore someone broke into my car and tried to steal it and destroyed it, also no alarm went off when this happened.

I was sitting behind a s. U. V . When it started to move I doubt if we were going 5 miles I slightly moved my steering wheel not even a half a turn to move straight behind the s. U. V. My car shot to the right jumped a curb, hit a pole, thru two trees down a hill and into a fence. When it was all said and done my car wouldn't stop, my airbag never deployed and my car was totaled. I kept asking if there was a way this car could be examined. The insurance company took the car. I had started having problems prior to this incident that started around the end of may. But before that the car ran pretty good and only had 52,000 miles. 1st it wouldn't start after driving it for a while. You would have to wait a few minutes and it would restart. So my husband took it to our mechanic. He couldn't find anything wrong and it even passed inspection. About a week and a half later I am driving and the car just stopped while I am driving no power. I finally get it to start again. Get it to a safer place and called aaa towing. They towed it to kia. They replaced some type of sensor I believe it was a crank. It ran smooth but it still didn't feel right. It had a hard time pulling hills and the acceleration wasn't right. It kept losing acceleration like it was going to stop on me again then it would seem to kick back in. I had planned that weekend to take it up to pep boys for diagnostics and take it back to kia to see what was wrong with it. But I had the incident that Friday . I uploaded a police report. And I do have repair ,inspection & and tow bill if needed.

The doors will lock and won't unlock. This happened to the front passenger door when the car was less than a year old and they repaired it. The rear passenger door locked and it won't lock so I don't load items on that side but yesterday, July 5, 2022 I got locked in on my drivers side! I had to exit the vehicle by crawling over the stick shift to the front passenger side. I've seen hundreds of complaints about this and can't understand why there has not been a recall.

The door locks stop working. There are a ton of complaints on the internet of the same issue, the door locks will not work with the fob or with the key.

On June 29, 2022, I was driving on I-5 southbound when I heard a loud sort of tapping sound coming from my engine. About 30 minutes later, before I had time to get to a gas station, there was a loud "boom!" sound and all of a sudden, the catalytic converter light and some other dash lights started to flash and I started to lose power. I pulled over to the left shoulder of the highway and before I could even pop the hood, I noticed flames immediately licking from the underside of the hood. I grabbed my phone and pulled my rabbit in her cage from the back seat of the car and called 911. My car continued to burn, starting a small brush fire, until the fire department finally came and put the fire out. The whole front of my car was completely incinerated and it had made its way to the back hatch in less than hour. I don't know for certain what caused this as the only indication of a problem was the loud tapping sound- zero dash lights were flashing until the boom. I had just taken the car in for an oil change and general check up less than a week before, and they saw nothing amiss. Geico, my insurance company, has inspected it to determine that it is, in fact, a total loss, but I'm sure they didn't do a sort of diagnostic to determine what happened to cause the incident. I am beyond lucky that I was able to escape my car with my pet and my life, but had the fire moved any faster through the car, we would be dead. It all happened within an hour.

Unknown of specifics. I was driving up a hill. I heard a loud pop. I pulled off the side of the road. The battery light, oil light, and one other came on. I turned my car off. Tried to start it, again however it sounded like the starter wasn't working. Then smoke started to come out of the car. Within 10 minutes my entire car was consumed in flames. A bystander stated the same thing happened to someone she knows- same make & model of car. . . About two weeks prior. Police believe there was something faulty within the car.

The driver interior door latch will not fully retract. As a result it is nearly in the open position. With the door latch nearly in the open position, the door could unexpectedly open creating a safety hazard. Kia is unable to determine if this is covered by the warranty without paying a hefty diagnostic fee. There were no prior symptoms before this issue occurred.

My car started burning while I was driving. Luckily, I stoped and we (me and my wife) ran away from it.

I received notice on 2/10/22 that there was a remedy part for my 2018 kia Rio. The letter said it was a recall part involving a latch that opens my trunk from the inside. I tried repeatedly since then to make an appointment at glendale, CA or alhambra, CA kia dealerships thru the kia website but the website malfunctions every time I make an attempt. I tried at least 3 times to call, and the service department did not answer. On 7. 20. 22, I sent a request through the website chatbox, asking for an appointment and so far, no response.

I drove to a local store while my friend went shopping I remained in the vehicle and let it idle I proceeded to drive away to head home and the car started having idle and throttle malfunction to where there was no gas peddle response and eventually car died I barely got to a parking lot nearby restarted car and same symptoms occurred I was able to give it enough throttle to creep down the road I had to keep restarting motor to get it to move at to which it finally wouldn’t move at all, prior it was leaking oil severely out the bottom what looked like near the oil filter, it now starts and dies immediately with no gas peddle response won’t even rev up to a idle.

My vehicle was recalled for a "interior trunk release" issue. My trunk will not open at all anymore. Kia's website does not allow me to schedule an appointment due to glitches on website. I also tried calling kia and got no answer.

No incident's with my vehicle, just need my recall to be complete before I ship my vehicle from la to hawaii.

For the past year and few months I’ve been having to do an oil change every two weeks because of how fast the engine is burning the oil. Several times I arrive to the shop to find the oil pan is completely empty causing issues with my engine beginning to make strange noises that are concerning. The dash light does not come on to notify me that there is no oil. I’m sure the damage is severe because I have had the check engine light come on a couple times and having to fix it because of this. Other kia drivers have had this issue with other models, including this one.

We purchased a very low miles (42k) kia from the dealer as a 2nd owner. In less than 6 months the car has serious safety issues. The vehicle shuts off and stalls while idling at stop lights, stop signs or slow traffic with no warning. All other powered components like radio, lights etc remain on and functioning. The car is hard to start after the vehicle shuts off and has stalled and takes multiple tries to turn over. When accelerating the vehicle will randomly not respond at all to the gas pedal, will not increase speed, rpm will not move and the car will not respond. When the car does accelerate, it will sputter and rpm will increase dramatically. This is very dangerous to those driving and those on the road. If the vehicle does not respond to acceleration the risk to the driver and occupants is serious. There could be an accident from oncoming traffic both rear and from behind. There is great life threatening risk. Local mechanic stated the car throws no codes when diagnosed, and there is no check engine light on. Kia knows their vehicles have this issue and has recalled many other models in the same years. There are multiple identical NHTSA. Gov complaints noting identical vehicle problems. The problem is not able to be found with diagnostic. The kia Rio should be recalled and repaired immediately. The car was sold with serious safety issues. There was a class action even that did not proceed that alleges the gamma engines cause sudden stalling, excessive oil consumption, engine failures and fires in the vehicles.

The trunk latch is broken and does not open with safety latch. Why is my car not on the list for the recall on this particular problem?.

Vehicle caught on fire.

My kia Rio 2020 had the check engine light come on today. The engine coolant temperature gauge went all the way to the hot mark. The car is one year old and and has 60093 miles on it. The dealership demontrond kia refused to repair it under warranty. I called kia corporate and was told the same thing. This is unacceptable. My expectation is that they will repair this issue for no cost. As all maintenance has been done at the dealership. I have not noticed any fluid leaks nor have I been told when at the dealership about any fluid loss.

The trunk of my car will not open. Upon further inspection, the trunk latch is broken. When we accessed the trunk from the back seats, we tried to open it with the emergency release and it does not work. Nothing opens the trunk. This is a known issue to kia and they've recalled other years, but not 2016. So I guess if a person were to get locked in the trunk of a 2016 Rio, it's somehow not a safety issue, even though it is one in later years??.

Car was stolen due to defective alarm system . I feel every one should know that kia doesn’t care enough to protect its customers with a full alarm system on the car . Thieves stole my and others cars by breaking the passenger window and climbing in and starting the car with a usb stick. What in the world is that ? like how does your alarm not sound when a window is broken if the alarm is working a1.

On may 29th 2021 my 2016 kia Rio engine caught on fire after multiple attempts of letting kia know that my engine had a possible recall/detect. I was told that my car wasn’t apart of the recall list of considered on the list of the 1. 6 million or billion others who’s engines have blown up as well. I have paper work/trail of recent mechanical work/mechanics informing me with “possible recall issues as well”. Paid for an oil change may 21st, visited the mechanic and 8 days later my car was in flames at an exxon gas station pump, literally traumatized.

I received a letter from kia corporation that they would voluntarily replace a part (the clockspring assembly) in the steering wheel shaft as the malfunction would impair the proper functioning of the air bags, in the letter they stated specifically that this would not cost me any money out pocket including the diagnostic, I took the car to one of their dealers and they refused to service my vehicle if I did not pay upfront. I called another of their dealers but they also said I would have to pay for the diagnostic. I then called corporate and also corresponded with them via email but they did not solve the problem. Ever since I have been involved in two separate collisions and the air bags did not deploy, also the horn stop functioning and after doing some online research I found out it also depends on the part that was supposed to be replaced to function, the steering wheel control such as cruise control etc. Also stopped working. Corporate has not gotten back to me and I feel they are just going to let it die out and not do anything about it. Meanwhile I am driving the vehicle without air bags, horn and steering wheel controls. I have no choice because my family only owns this vehicle. Please let me know what I need to do to get help to get a solution for this issue/s. Thank you. Note: at this moment I only have information related to one of the collisions but I could provide for the other if need be. Also, the car belongs to my wife (maria DE la luz alvarez) but I was the driver at both collisions as I am the primary driver in my family household.

My car was parked at my place after getting out of it around 8:30am. I returned to my vehicle at 12pm and the inside was burnt because a fire started in the middle consul.

I called the dealership about my brake problem five days ago about the brakes going down to the floor almost I was told by the service manager that was a safety issue so he gave me their roadside assistance number yobe picked up they did on Friday morning 9/25/20 the car was delivered and the service manager said he would call me that day about the problem but I have not heard from him I could only get recording about making an appointment I talked to the finance manager about the brakes causing a fire on other same brand vehicles he told me to wait for the service report the car was moving afriend also commented on the brakes also after the car went to dealership sha checked on it and came up with the news report in houston about the safety issue.

The car has been burning oil where I have to have it changed every week. I read that California has a lawsuit on lemon law against kia and Hyundai for burning engines and my 2014 kia Rio is included but I don't live in California. I am requesting you to do the same thing California is doing and do a lawsuit. I have all the receipts and proof every week I have to add oil because the engine burns oil too quickly.

The clock spring light came on the car is now having issues with the steering. I was told by kia dealership that this is a known problem for my car and that it needs to be replaced due to safety of driving since it effects the airbag. If it get stopped I can get a ticket for the light being on.

At 148,000 miles on the freeway the gas pedal would not give any power, still running but would not go, stalled a few times. Had to pull over and wait, restart and go a few miles, pull over and wait, then go, etc. Come to find out there was not a drop of oil left. After replenishing, still had issues, then noticed the anti-freeze was low. Replenished is now driveable but continues to burn oil. No leaking & I changed the pcv valve with no results. I'm still adding close to a quart of oil everyday. Have reason to believe the piston rings and valves are shot and oil is circulating throughout/into cylinders. Now it's on its last leg, 152,000 miles. It's been a good ride but time to go. Note* a/c stopped working at 66,000 miles.
