Electronic Stability Control Problems of Kia Motor Sedona - part 1

The contact owns a 2007 kia Sedona. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the esc and abs warning lights illuminated. In addition, the contact stated that on several occasions, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the brake light independently activated while the vehicle was parked. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a failed stop light switch. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact researched and discovered NHTSA campaign number: 20v088000 (electrical system, service brakes, hydraulic); however, the recall was not associated with the VIN. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.

The kia van was parked , turned off, keys were removed, outside in our business parking lot. A person driving by noticed it was on fire and called the fire department. This happened around 12 am. (midnight) the local fire department responded to the call and reported to the scene.

While driving at 55mph 2 lane rual road check engine light came on then after min later esc off light came on and all the sudden I lost all throttle and rpm gas petal to floor and would only cost at 20mph and less on incline almost rear ended due to loss of throttle with no notice to traffic behind me . . Turned on emergency flashers found a place 10 miles down the road to pull off . . No cell service in rual area cranked veh back up and all lights were off started and throttled right for about a mile their was no rain snow just sunny day . . Have called kia they said they have never heard of such since we have the covid . . I went online and see alot of complaints about this issue so I have no faith that kia will fix it since all the reviews . . I had a throttle position sensor ordered it thru kia which at first they said they could not sell the sensor only but the whole throttle body. . I had to refer them to a tsa bulletin and guess what they could order one at $40 compared to $350 . . I replaced the part and it is still doing the same thing . . Frustrated with this it should be a recall since this is a ongoing issue with kia and huanda veh till date from what I have read online . . If you wish to look at my veh to see the problem you are welcome to because its unsafe for me to drive 165,000 miles.

Tl- the contact owns a 2008 kia Sedona . The contact stated while driving 25 mph , the contact stated the vehicle would not stop, the vehicle stopped after depressed the brake pedal multiple times. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated on the failure recurred few week later the vehicle the stalled , the contact stated she inserted oil,while driving 55 mph and came to a red light,the vehicle stalled. The contact was not able to move the vehicle, which caused the vehicle on fire on engine. The contact stated the fire was extinguish by the fire department, and a fire department report was filed. The fire department would inspected the vehicle and stated the cause of the fire was undetermined. The contact stated that their failure related to NHTSA campaign number: 20v088000 ( electrical system, service brakes, hydraulic) however the contact stated haven't received any notification on recall. The contact stated a local dealer was contacted however, no assistance was offered and provided manufacturer number . The manufacturer had been informed of failure, case was filed, and stated that they would call back however, the contact has not received a return call as of yet . The failure mileage was approximately  198,000.

I have a recall letter.

On Friday, April 17th, 2020, george camara received the safety recall interim notice for his 2006 kia Sedona stating that the engine is at risk for fire when vehicle is off. The letter states to park the vehicle until repaired and says that the risk of fire is due to moisture in an electrical system of the engine that can short out even when the vehicle is shut off. We have pleaded with kia findlay and the kia consumer center to at least check for moisture in the unit of concern, but were turned away. We also requested a loaner vehicle in the interim and again, they refused and said they cannot help unless the engine catches fire. We are afraid to have the vehicle here and would like a loaner until it's repaired, rather than risk a catastrophe.

Interim recall notice. Can't get any info from kia they advise parking it outside & nowhere other vehicles due to /fire hazard. It's our only car & we can't get any information from them. Help,no idea when it will get fixed/ can't even make phone contact w/ kia. Help.

We were notified of a dangerous part failure. In early April. So far we have heard no more from kia the manufacturer & the dealer knows nothing. We need our vehicle. It's our only vehicle. We need to park it outside away from other vehicles as it can burst into flames. We need this fixed now.

Received a recall notice from kia dated 4/8/20 stating hydraulic electronic control unit, which controls esc, tsc and anti-lock brake system, remains energized when vehicle is turned off and an electrical short circuit increases the risk of engine compartment fire even when car is turned off. The parts are not currently available to fix this. In the meantime, I am to park my vehicle outdoors away from other vehicles and structures. I called my local kia dealership to inquire if they knew when the repair would be available and they did not even know of its existence. The service department said kia blows things out of proportion and scares people and they have no idea when and if the repair parts will be in. This is an unacceptable response. Kia needs to communicate with the dealerships about this problem and they need to fix it as soon as possible to avoid injury to consumers. I am left with a van that has the risk of catching on fire. I do not know if it is only when the vehicle is turned off or I am at risk when I am driving the van. Due to being laid off from the current covid 19 crisis, I am not in a position to buy or rent a new car. Also, there is no place to park my car in my home where it is not near another vehicle or structure. I also tried calling kia's consumer assistance center, but the number listed on the letter connects me with roadside assistance and there is no connection for recall information.

The brake lights turned on and cannot be turned off except for disconnecting the battery. They are on all of the time while driving and drivers cannot tell when I apply my brakes. They are on after I power off the vehicle and park and lock the Sedona. The esc off light was also illuminated when I started the car. Today looking my car value, found that my wagon have 4 recalls. I'm worry for this situation.

Abs and esc off light came on last week and since I have had no abs or stability control. Caused me to spin out on icy interstate.

This vehicle had a recall for the stop lamp switch, NHTSA 13v114000, the unit was replaced in December of 2014 and has failed again. Dealership is charging us to replace the part even though it's failed after only 22 months.

I drove the van in the morning and all was well. Stopped at a grocery store and when I started it up in the afternoon the stability control sensor and the anti lock sensor stayed on all the time. Got home, turned the van off then on again and the sensor warning lights didn't reboot. Don't know what the problem is but will take to dealership for diagnosis.

While parked the brake tail lights stay on; while driving the cruise control malfunctions, and esc light indicator illuminates and stays on. It is the same problems as the recall NHTSA #13v114000 and the kia recall #sc098, but my VIN number apparently isn't listed as one that is affected, which it is! I have noticed it a couple of months ago, but now they all are getting worse. I did not know it was a recall problem.

In march2016 brakes replace with new pads/rotor due to screech sound. Today when brake pressed steering wheel vibrates. Abs/esc off light came on the other day. Front wheels still vibrate on the highway. Transmission sometimes jerks and stalls the car. A/c not work, but heater always working.

Stop lamp switch was replaced in 2013 due to safety recall 13v114000. At present the esc light is malfuntioning and the vehicle will not shift out of park. Took the vehicle to our kia dealership and the service department determined that a faulty stop lamp switch was the cause. The switch was replaced and vehicle operates as normal. A request for reimbursement has been submitted to kia for the cost of the repair. This is a major safety concern and I feel it is the responsibility of Kia Motors to issue another recall.

Tl the contact owns a 2006 kia Sedona. The contact stated that the esc warning indicator flashed, the vehicle failed to shift in and out of gear, and the brake lights frequently failed to turn off. The manufacturer indicated that the vehicle was excluded from a manufacturer recall, and provided no solution other than taking the vehicle to the dealer (university kia, 6519 university dr NW, huntsville, al 35806, (256) 217-1700) for diagnostic testing and repair. The contact was to order the part and determine who may repair the vehicle. The failure mileage was not available.

Without warning goes into limp mode very little acceleration esp light on and check engine on. Will restart and drive normally until next episode! car moving at highway speed when this happens or on city street but always moving.

My esc light and abs light came on as I was pulling out of the movie theater and my vehicle immediately turned off so I restarted it and pulled out onto the highway where it turned off again and wouldn't restart for 15-20 minutes once I got it restarted my engine started making a weird sound and I could not accelerate it kept jerking like I was running out of gas when I had a full tank luckily I made it home with my 3 kids before it shut off again. Not safe at all.

The kia dealer in cheyenne, wyoming advised the contact to bring the vehicle in for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. Additionally, the contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16v389000 (latches/locks/linkages). The failure mileage was approximately 183,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

I had issues putting in park and then getting out of park. Disconnected battery cable to turn off vehicle. Battery seemed dead but had battery checked out it's fully good. Now my abs,battery,brake,esc lights all came on and vehicle has no power. Seems like it could be brake-tramission shift interlock problems?.

Some electoral problems are happening. When driving or parked the brake lights appear in flashing manner and during that 5 second time it will lock and unlock my windows and if I am using my suppers they stop working sometimes. Also sometime the windows dont work and thebradio also messes up and changes station with out me touching it. Thisbhas been an ongoing thing for ag least 3 years. Also it use to not startvat forb2 days and then itbwoukdbstart with no help. I woukd come throuhh the pasengers side and startbit fine. Lots if electric issues.

Traveling at 85 mph, cruise control on, "esc off" light and check engine light illuminated on the dashboard and the vehicle decelerated rapidly. Lost ability to accelerate past 20 mph. Vehicle was stopped and restarted. Accelerator resumed working for however the check engine light illuminated and checked the code it was throttle position sensor. This morning the check engine light remained on and the vehicle.

Car randomely will not start, problem has been occurring for serveral years. Let car sit for 15 or so minutes and will start, battery fine and has been replaced. Took to Kia Motors and could not detect problem. Recently took to a local mechanic who was able to detect a problem (after investigating kia website) with the intermittent crank. The service bulletin states that this is problem in 2006 and 2007 Sedona. I have a copy of the bulletin in my possession. The mechanic did not replace the part but he removed, cleaned it and reinstalled. I have not had a problem (has only been one day) but will see how if runs. My concern is that this issue should have been a recall issue and covered by kia. I had to pay for a rental and for the service of the vehicle. It has been a hardship for me. The car has not been dependable or safe. Can you help me 1. Request a refund on my expenses and 2. Get this part replaced as a recall item? thank you.

Brake lights not illuminating, esc light is on that it is not functioning check engine light looked up that it was a recall on 2007 kia Sedona but when entering my VIN # it does not show up.

The electrical doors stopped working and do not latch, the door fly open when we turn a corner. The esc light is on. My brakes and transmission has malfunctioned. . Malfunctions in SC 134. Sc133. Sc098. The ;suspenision and clicks and clutters. Since this year alone my van has malfunctioned in all the areas, u can see when looked at. . . The doors alone are dangerious.

I had an issue with a dealership after service with kia I started having trouble with the locks on the passenger side doors not locking and shutting. And before I accuse someone of something that is not correct I wanted to rule out all avenues. While speaking to kia they said to contact the owner and take it up with them. But I am wanting to make sure of this I have a pre-owned vehicle. On 5/21/2016 is when I started having problems with them.

This van has the exact same issue with the brake switch that all the others had in recall. Shifter is stuck in park. Esc light is on and brake lights are not working. There are no open recalls for this issue on the VIN number. Further, the kia dealership refuses to fix it free of charge.

Takata recall there is a popping sound under the van while you are driving doesnt matter what kind of road you are on unknown what part it is the esc light keeps coming on doesnt matter what kind of road you are on and the brakes keep acting like they are going out doesnt matter what kind of road you are on.

Esc light wouyld go on and off sporadically along with cruise control becoming unresponsive. Condition was sporadic. Brought vehicle to naples kia on 11-10-2015 for repair. Replaced stop lamp switch at cost to me. Research today shows was recall on the part? I took it in for recall in the past and now believe this same part was possibly already replaced. This would mean this part is defective again.

The esc light illuminated in my kia Sedona for two years on and off not until recently did I realize when this happed the brake lights would not illuminate. I brought car in and was charged $250 to replace the brake light switch. I saw this was a recall on 2007 kia Sedona but dealer stated it did not include my kia Sedona how can the same exact thing that happened on almost 1 million kia and Hyundai not be the same thing on my kia Sedona. I believe my kia should have been part of the recall and I should be issued a refund for this repair.

The esc and the abs light came on and know the break lights don't work and it keeps blowing my head lights the air bag is on and they stay on. This happens when you put it in gear and they stay on the whole time the auto is on. At frist it did every once in a while but know it stays on and my brake lights doesn't work.

While driving in construction (55mph) going to work in morning rush, the esc off light came on and there was loss of acceleration. I turned the emergency flashers on and coasted to a stop, but there was nowhere to get off the road. Cars started swerving around me and one car almost hit a divider wall. I shut the engine off and restarted 3 times before I could get going again. It happened twice again within a 2 mile distance all in the construction area. Research showed the tps is defective and needs replaced and reprogrammed. This is a dangerous problem. Somebody could be killed.
