1 Front Seat Belt Buckle Assembly problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 09/22/2007

The contact owns a 2002 kia Sedona. When the contact started the vehicle, the driver side seat belt began smoking. The seat belt then caught fire when it came in contact with the wires attached to the seat belt connector and a piece of hard plastic around the bottom of the seat (seat guard). The contact extinguished the fire. Kia stated that a recall repair had been performed on the vehicle in April of 2006 and that she would be responsible for any current repairs. The seat belt area of the vehicle was damaged. The vehicle has not been inspected by the dealer or a mechanic. The contact also stated that the passenger side door handle failed and a new one had been ordered before the fire occurred. The current and failure mileages were 77,600.

2 Front Seat Belt Buckle Assembly problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 05/10/2007

On may 13, 2006 I purchased a 2006 kia Sedona van from a local dealership. On September 22, 2006, October 11, 2006, January 3, 2007, and January 18, 2007 had this vehicle to dealer for service due to the air bag light coming on while driving and staying on. During the first occasion the light was reset as the service technician could not find a problem. On the second occasion a code appeared, but no parts were ordered since the code could not be diagnosed. The light was again reset, and the van sent back to me. On the third occasion two codes appeared, part were ordered, but it was still unclear of the problem. Again the service department reset the air bag light and said they would call when the parts arrived. After not hearing from anyone, I called the dealership taylor kia, and they told me they were sorry for not contacting me, and I could bring the van in on January 18, 2007. On that occasion, a part was replaced, a leg assembly. I was told that the light issue should be fixed. On may 10, 2007, my wife was driving with my 15 year old daughter in the front passenger seat. They were hit in the driver side by a vehicle traveling about 50 mph. The front driver, and passenger air bags deployed. The side air bags did not deploy, and upon impact the seat belts released, instead of locking, with no retraction. This cause my wife and daughter to be thrown around in the front of the vehicle. According to the van's manual, the air bags, and seat belts should work together. The fact that the seat belts released could have allowed for either the driver or the passenger to be ejected. I am afraid to drive this van again as we have five children total. This was a big safety concern. We have reported this issue to taylor kia, toledo, ohio, four times. I am now unsure if the problem was ever corrected. I am also positive no repair made to the van will ever convince me that all safety equiptment is functioning on this particular van.

3 Front Seat Belt Buckle Assembly problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 12/20/2006

- the contact is calling to complain because the manufacture of his vehicle does not make seat belt extender and he finds this to be a safety issue as well as an issue with the law, since the state of minnesota requires all drivers to wear seat belts. When he spoke with the manufacture to see if he can get a seat belt extenders they stated that they don't make them and that they do only what is required by the federal guideline. The contact would like to know what next step he can take to resolve his seat belt issue.

4 Front Seat Belt Buckle Assembly problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 07/03/2006

Back in 2003, the airbag light on my van came on and would not go away. It was under warranty. The problem was a defective passenger side seat belt buckle. That was replaced. Now in 2005 the airbag light came on and would not go away again. My warranty has expired, so I tried finding out what the problem was myself. It was the same passenger side seat belt buckle. The problem was a broken wire in the harness to the sensor. The cause was a metal clip that pinches the harness, and with the movement of putting the seat belt on and off, eventually leading to the wire breakage. That I fixed myself and airbag light went out. In 2006, the airbag light came back on and would not go out. The problem now is the driver side seat belt buckle, once again a broken wire at the clip. Once again my warranty has expired so I am going to fix it myself. This kind of problem can be fixed if the clips are removed, extending the life of the sensing unit. I am sure that there are many others with that same problem. I would like to see this defect fixed.

5 Front Seat Belt Buckle Assembly problem of the 2003 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 08/20/2005

Third time I am having my seat belt buckle replaced due to airbag lamp being on. They just keep replacing faulty part with another faulty part, this third time, only took two days for light to come back on. I have also been told in the meantime my airbags are inactive. This problem needs to be addressed and recalled, not just replaced. I do not feel safe.

6 Front Seat Belt Buckle Assembly problem of the 2003 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 08/17/2005

I have had my 2003 kia Sedona a little over 2 years. I bought it new from a dealer. Since 2002, I have had problems with the front seat belt sensors, to the point both have had to be replaced. When this sensor does not operate properly, the "airbag needs servicing" light comes on. With that light on, the van will not pass inspection (va state inspection). The first time this happened, the dealership was out or stock of the replacement seatbelt assembly, but they gave me one from another car while we waited for my parts to come in. They never came in. Now, the 2nd one has gone bad, and I am still waiting for a part. Evidently, where the dearlership orders parts from kia is out of stock of these items due to high volume of replacement. I am (1) concerned that so many of these are going bad that the company has run out of stock, and (2) worried that failure of this sensor could result in my airbag not working properly. I have now been waiting over 4 months for the replacement parts, and they are still not available from the dealer. This item is not covered by warranty, and it does not appear to be a recall item. But shouldn't a safety item like that cause a recall since it involves personal safety and the passive restraint operation? and if that many are failing, doesn't that cause concern from the nhtsb?.

7 Front Seat Belt Buckle Assembly problem of the 2003 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 09/16/2004

I've had many problems with my 2003 kia Sedona. The emergency brake has never been right. The brakes were replaced at 13k miles, again at 24k miles (front & back) and I'm sure they need to be replaced again at 40k miles. At 22k miles I took the van to the shop for brakes only to be told that both wheel bearings, the left strut (they refused to replace both struts since it was warranty but if I was paying for the repairs they would recomend replacing in pairs) and the power steering pump was going out (which the manager said he was doing me a favor by telling me about). I have also complained of the a/c taking forever to cool down, had a sensor replaced for the gas tank after the check engine light came on and service to the drivers seatbelt. Then yesterday during a storm I went through a puddle about 4 or 5 inches deep which splashed water on my van for a couple of seconds and about 50 feet down the road the van died and could not be restarted. Upon having it towed to the kia dealer I was told that my airfilter had gotten wet and that there was "dish soap" in my airfilter which would be considered customer damage and not covered by warranty. I also complained about more noises coming from the front and a grinding noise when I begin acceleration in low gears. They requested I make an appointment for service on those issues. In addition, I purchased this vehicle on 4/23/03, when I tried to file a complaint about my service on the wheel bearing, etc with kia they had no record of me ever purchasing this van. Apparently in their minds my van was sold to someone else on 2/27/03. This means if there is ever a recal or service notice sent out I would not receive them. In addition they had my warranty expiration date set at 2/27/03. I spoke with several people concerning this issue and was assured that this would immediately be corrected, however yesterday when I called for assistance I was told that the van was still listed as being sold to another person.

8 Front Seat Belt Buckle Assembly problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 06/01/2004

We have a 2002 Sedona. We have owned it for 2 years. And this is the 7th time the airbag light has come on and stayed on. Evey time we take it in they replace something, once was the seat belt latch, another time was a part in the computer and so on. They just don't know what is causing it to come on, so they tell me. That is such a reassuring answer for a car owner. We have also had problems with the battery, hatchback not opening and having dents in it from when we shut it and break problems that they refussed to fix until after the warrenty expired. It is time now for an attorney to step in for us.

9 Front Seat Belt Buckle Assembly problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

10 Front Seat Belt Buckle Assembly problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 09/12/2002

Seat belt buckle is not locking seat belts in place. Contacted deal and dealer was aware of the problem. Ak.

11 Front Seat Belt Buckle Assembly problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 03/08/2002

The locking mode that keeps the seat belt taut when installing a childs car seat stopped working. It is activated by pulling the seat belt all the way out, and then letting it retract. This keeps the car seat secure. It was taken to the dealter and although they had to be convinced there was a problem, they agreed to replace both center belts. I am concerned that this may be happening in other new 2002 Sedona lx's. We were told that the seat belts are "univeral" but I wanted to report this failure, and what do I do if my van is returned, the seat belts work for a while, and then this happens again? luckily this failure was noticed while I was installing the seat belt, and did not happen while I was driving. I have three young children in car seats.
