1 Seat Belt problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 03/23/2026

Recall appointment was set with ken ganley kia auto inew port richey , FL. It was set for two weeks out. They told us what the recall was before we got there. They didn’t order the part to fix it. Now it’s been since March 23rd and we have never heard from them. I feel they’ve had ample opportunity to get the part required to fix it. Since this is a safety issue I am very aggravated . On top of that, my husband wasted an entire day and they gave us a $10,000 estimate on a car worth maybe $1000. It is my opinion they have done nothing required by law to fix this. Since it is regarding a safety concern I wanted to report this issue. .

2 Seat Belt problem of the 2018 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 10/19/2025

My [xxx] son pulled the seatbelt so tight it got wrapped around his neck. When I pulled over to unbuckle it, it was stuck. I turned the car off and on again to try and loosen it, but it didn't work. In the emergency, I had to cut the seatbelt with scissors. It's the passenger seatbelt in the second row, next to the window. I reported the incident to kia in puerto rico by phone. They never called me back. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

3 Seat Belt problem of the 2021 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 05/21/2025

I was in a car wreck and my air bags did not deploy and my seat belt did not lock. The other vehicle involved in the car accident immediately deployed its airbags. I did not ask for an ambulance because I do not know if my insurance covers it so I went personally to the emergency room after the accident.

5 Seat Belt problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 02/06/2023

In Feb of 2023, my van had no known issues and out of nowhere it started making a terrible noise, every light in the dash came on, my power steering stopped working and then my engine shut off. I had it towed to a mechanic shop, they said it needed an engine. I had it towed to our local kia dealership. They said it did not need an engine, it only needed a timing chain. That was $8000. We decided to get it done. 4 weeks later exactly from when we picked it up, I was on the interstate and the exact thing happened. I had it towed back to our local kia. They stated it now needed an engine and it would be a used engine because they do not manufacture the engine anymore. It had over 60k miles on it and it would be $13k not including shipping or labor. We decided not to do this. After further investigation, this should have been under warranty the entire time and we never should have spent any money on it. This has been a terribly unreliable “family car”. I will never buy a kia again. My family is still suffering from paying $8k+ to have it “fixed”.

6 Seat Belt problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 12/02/2020

The daytime and headlights lights will turn off randomly. (started around the 100k mileage). When stationary, the sliding doors do not shut correctly. 1st the driver's side door begins rattling like change is inside the door. 2nd then the door begins taking 2 turns to close, and then it is hit or miss when closing. The door closure button will occasionally not work, regardless of whether the car is off and parked. (started around the 45000 mileage). The driver's side seat belt connector occasionally indicates a fault error. Also the passenger side seat belt indicator will turn on when 5 pounds or less is in the passenger seat. (started around the 100k mileage). My biggest concern: since I believe the side doors are fatal accidents waiting to happen, I have my kids sit in the 3rd row. Only adults are allowed to sit in my passenger captain chairs. The blind spot warning does not work consistently.

7 Seat Belt problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 10/21/2019

Airbags - the sensor light keeps coming on at random times, then will turn off for a few seconds, then come back on. There is not one certain thing that causes this (ie bumps, breaking, acceleration, etc). Not sure if this is a bad sensor issue or what it could be. Seatbelts - front passenger side seatbelt will lock into place while driving (like after you would stop suddenly), and the only way to undo it, is to release the seatbelt.

8 Seat Belt problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 09/25/2018

The airbag light would come on and go off randomly while driving. We took it to the dealer several times. I believe repairs were made twice and within days it happened again. The other times it was taken into the dealer, the problem could not be replicated as the light would randomly come on/blink. The airbag light stays on all the time now. I've been told it is dangerous to drive the vehicle while the light is on because the airbags will not deploy should the vehicle get in an accident. The passenger side seatbelt like blinks constantly now whether there is a passenger in the front seat or not. I've been told by kia that the warranty has expired and any cost associated with the repair of the airbag and seatbelt sensor will be our responsibility. This was an ongoing problem well before the warranty expired.

9 Seat Belt problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 09/11/2018

Center seat belt in the middle back row which pulls down from the roof of the vehicle failed when making a quick stop to avoid an accident due to another car improperly changing lanes into our lane. Speed of travel was 45mph on the straight away on a city street. The passenger's head was aiming for the center console and was buffered by the passenger extending his hands to not hit the center console. The seat belt appears to be working now, but we cannot be sure that it will continue to function properly or if the others may also work intermittently in the future.

10 Seat Belt problem of the 2015 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 07/05/2017

The back seat will not clip down and the middle seat belt will not retract back. You cannot sit in the back seat because it will not clamp to the floor.

11 Seat Belt problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 05/25/2017

Air bag light comes on and off frequently with no explanation as to why. The passenger seat belt light blinks on and off with no passenger and nothing in the seat. This happens while driving the vehicle or at start up of the vehicle the lights may stay on. I fear that if needed my airbags may not deploy properly.

12 Seat Belt problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 04/15/2017

Problem #1. At approximately 111,000 miles my Sedona's airbag light illuminated on my dash panel. . . And has stayed illuminated ever since. There was no accident or incident to provoke this light to illuminate. Kia of dartmouth (MA) said it's a drivers side seatbelt sensor that is "bad". Cost to repair $274. 80! why is a "bad" sensor not the responsibility of the manufacturer? it's faulty. There was no misuse or abuse by the consumer, in other words, why is there no recall on this item? problem #2. At approximately 108,000 my Sedona's tpms light and ( ! ) lights illuminated on my dash panel. . . And have stayed illuminated since. The tires are inflated to manufacture's specifications so there is no chance that the tires are under or over inflated. Again, there is a "bad" sensor(s). Why isn't there a recall on these faulty sensors?.

13 Seat Belt problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 12/22/2016

The 2nd row center seat belt is defective and can not hold an occupant. The center seat belt had never been used before today - the buckles were still wrapped in blue plastic from the factory. Upon attempted first use, the smaller latchplate would not go into the smaller buckle. The white release button on the smaller buckle was depressed inwards - which it should not have been. The smaller latchplate would go into the buckle and give a false latch and then at even a little bit of pulling on the belt the latchplate would come out of the buckle. Note: because this shoulder belt comes from the roof there are 2 buckles and 2 latchplates. The defect was with the smaller latchplate that would not latch properly into the smaller buckle.

14 Seat Belt problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Sedona

17 Seat Belt problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 08/18/2015

Before the incident there were issues with the rear captain chairs seat belt latch when trying to buckle them. I have three small children under the age of 3 years of age and it is very important and crucial that seat belts are in working order without issues for the safety of their well being. Before the incident the seats themselves in the rear rows had issues latching as well when being installed. On August 18, 2015 myself and three small children were in a severe high impact accident and none of the airbags had gone off like they never existed. My kids and I suffer from seat belt abrasions and I suffer from bruising in multiple places from my head down, shoulder pain and back issues. Police, paramedic's, collision center, witnesses, and my insurance company were all notified or had notified about the airbags. Apparently, my seat which was the driver seat was also completely snapped off as well. Updated 08/26/bf.

21 Seat Belt problem of the 2003 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 01/31/2014

I bought a used 2003 kia Sedona with 136000 miles. The day after purchasing the vehicle, the srs indicator light started staying lit on the dash. My mechanic found that the code was b1513, which indicated a problem with the passenger seat belt buckle (female end). They ordered that part new from kia and replaced it (for a cost of $238). The indicator light did not display for about three weeks when it went on again. This time, the codes were b1511 and b1513, which indicates problems with both the diver and passenger buckles. My mechanic believes it is a wiring issue, and at this point we are not replacing the seatbelts, because I have no way of knowing that it would really resolve the issue. The cost to replace the srs wiring is prohibitive (over $1000). I feel very unsafe in this vehicle, as no one can say for sure that my airbags will still deploy in case of an accident. It is very disappointing because the vehicle still drives very well. Kia should be more proactive about replacing/repairing faulty srs components, even in older vehicles.

23 Seat Belt problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 11/09/2012

Airbag light was illuminating intermittently - took to dealership for diagnostic in 2010. Kia dealership in turnersville said that light illuminating was normal and no issue. I recently had timing chain replaced by same dealership - different tech. This time they said that the light meant the airbags would not deploy in an accident! they said repairs would not be covered! I am furious.

24 Seat Belt problem of the 2005 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 10/29/2012

The contact owns a 2005 kia Sedona. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, she applied the brakes and another vehicle crashed into the rear of her vehicle. The contact's head was thrown into the steering wheel as both the seat belt and the air bags failed. The contact sustained injuries to the eye, shoulders, wrists, and her right calf. The contact also suffered from intervals of dizziness as a result. The vehicle was towed to a dealer and the contact was awaiting diagnosis of the seat belt and air bag failure. The VIN was unavailable. The failure and current mileage was 47,500.

25 Seat Belt problem of the 2003 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 07/24/2012

I have a 2003 kia Sedona and my 8 year old daughter went to buckle her seat belt, 2nd row drivers side, and the buckle part came off the seat. Upon inspection I found that the buckle was broke in the middle of the steel cable that holds the buckle to the seat, there is the buckle, cable, then bolts that hold the buckle to the base of the seat . I contacted kia and was immediately told that it would be fixed at my expense since it was out of warranty. I was told that there were no recalls and there would be nothing they could or would do. I took the van to my dealer and they had never seen anything like it, they spoke to their district manager and were told the same thing, my expense. After the dealer visit I inspected the rest of the buckles only to find that the other 2nd row seat belt is wearing through the steel cable and the front passenger belt is broke through the wires and part of the steel cable. Kia called this morning to inform me that they had spoke with the district manager and was told that the seat belt buckle failed due to wear and tear. The only people to look at the buckle were the service tech's and they just looked at, the manager never saw the buckle. I have an estimate of $401. 64 for the repairs. I am the only owner and purchased the vehicle new, in November 2003, after my twins were 3 months old. I also had a daughter at the time that was 6. The only people to sit in those seats are children, now 9 and 15. The car seats, when needed, were secured with the tethers. Is there anything that I can do? kia is being very short with me and don't seem to want to help me other than telling me there is no warranty.

26 Seat Belt problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 07/06/2012

Airbag light on without crash or defect in well maintained auto. Apparently this totally inactivates all airbags. Multiple similar complaints in NHTSA system. Needs to be recall, since most owners are unable to afford dealer repairs to this defective system on this model car. Often attributed to defective seatbelt sensors. Hopefully no one will die because of this problem, and kia USA should pay to repair this known defect!.

28 Seat Belt problem of the 2003 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 12/15/2010

Seat belts (female part) the piece that you snap the seat belt into, broke totally off all the way. Not 1 but 2 seat belts in my van has done this. And not only that the door handles broke off on the outside and inside. I've called kia to report these problems and they want me to pay for all this. Seems like the last thing that should brake (shouldn't brake at all!) is the seat belts! the door handles is one thing but the seat belts!.

34 Seat Belt problem of the 2007 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 03/11/2008

I have concerns of safety concerns on seat belts and electrical wiring 1. The seat belt shoulder strap and that is it doesn't retract back to its retractable position. It seems to be seizing up. It has been lubricated a number of times but keeps returning. Lap belt was replaced under warranty and this one is doing the same thing. My concern is that if the shoulder belt does seize then how the forward forces will allow the lock mechanism to engage itself to stop your body from being exerted forward. 2. The wiring I have found that one of the cigarette light power outlets has under the proper gauge of wire for the amperage that will cover the demand. One of things I have observed is that checking out the outlet the wires that power the outlet is 22 gauges which are rated for less then 1 amp draw. The cooler that I am using requires an electrical circuit 3 amps and needs to be rated for 15 amps. What has been happening is the wires behind the panels are warming up, this is the wire the manufacturer uses heats up and it could lead to a fire behind the panel. The head office of this vehicle has no information to know if there is a problem with the above concerns and feel this needs to be looked into before there is a death because these are not proper items installed.
