While driving car gas tank blew a hole and started on fire. Car then lost power while on fire while I was in traffic, luckily I was able to cut into a parking lot and people that were in traffic with me call 911. Fire department confirmed there was a hole in gas tank which sits right underneath driver side. Fire was only contained to where the gas tank and lines are. I have pictures.

137,000 miles, regular oil changes every 4,000 miles, even adding 2 quarts during the 4,000 miles it would still come up short by 1 quart. Started throwing p0018 timing code, high pressure fuel pump on front blew off the valve cover,im assuming due to jumping out of timing,as the high pressure pump sits ontop of one of the camshaft rollers. Engine started knocking and is now useless.

Engine failed…driving down the road with five small children and without warning all the lights came on and started smoking, leaking fuel, power doors failed, steering, acceleration and more. We had to have the car towed to a shop. A when looking into what’s happening apparently many others are having to spend thousands to fix this issue and I’m afraid that’s where we are. An investigation needs to be opened as this is clearly an ongoing issue for many families.

Unknown. . . So whenever it gets hot in the summertime lately. My car has an issue starting sometimes it doesn't start and I've taken it in have the mechanic look at it. They can't figure out what's going on with that. They say that it's known issue that they've had and they told me to bang on the relay inside my vehicle. And sometimes that starts up right away and other times it takes a little bit for my car to start. They could not figure out what was causing it and sometimes all of my lights on my dashboard light up my air bag, abs, check engine. Those will light up and I think it's something to do with the electrical or the fuel system. I don't know, I've replaced parts on it and I'm still having the issue. I don't know what is going on. I've replaced some fuses and they've blown so that's why I'm thinking it's something to do with the electrical. My mechanic couldn't figure out what it was and he says he has had many kias have the same issue.

Kia service dealer diagnosed high oil consumption on my car with heavy sounds. They recommend to replace whole engine but it's out of warranty. It has only 106k miles on it. I am afraid the car is posing safety issue as well and it has less miles on it. I filed complain with kia consumer corporate a case has been generated on their system 25759569 but no one had contacted me yet.
There is a continuous leakage of oil from my van even after the dealer replaced valve cover gasket . When I complained they said it was the leftover oil. After a month again I complained . Then they re-checked and said it is my car's timing cover reseal leaking . Again after few days I had to complain as there was a leak. I got the same standard reply of leftover uncleaned oil is the cause. Few weeks later I took the van to them and they said they thoroughly cleaned and there won't be any leak. I sent them pictures of oil drops underneth the car like I did on earlier occassions. On August 11th this year they checked the car after my complaint and said there was no active leak. On 30th of this month I sent them the pictures of leaked oil spots which they are going to check on 18th September!. Since I got my first appointment on January 19 2025 I took the vehicle to the dealer 5-6 times. In between I complained to them about failure of door locks and wiper blades. They said they were fine and had no issues. A week ago passenger side door lock stopped working often . I took to a mechanic store run by aaa. Their response after few days was that the electrical system was failing due to bad alternator as the battery got depleted. They recommended me to the dealer again. I was searching google and realised that an oil leak can cause alternator to go bad leading to electric failure and even fire accidents. On [xxx] I noticed red flashing sign of alternator and some other (?) after 2 minutes drive from home. So I immediately turned back and went home and parked the van in the garage and waiting for September 18 for an inspection by the dealer. Last week drove to st louis from lexington, after the dealer confirmed there was no oil leak. In all their reports they mentioned vehicle is in good health! each time when I sent a picture of a leak I requested managers at the receiving desk to park at a clean place and check the leak which they never did. Complete engine failure, knocking like crazy, fuel smell in the oil, the shop said the fuel in the oil broke it down and allowed the motor to fail. We were driving down the highway when it happened with family and kids which was not safe at all. No warning message at all, no check engine light, the shop has inspected and said it’s failed. The kia dealership has said many of the kia’s have been recalled for engine failure but not ours? but others with the same motor have been.

Rod failure, was told there was fuel mixing with the oil and caused the oil to break down and cause complete engine failure while driving down the highway with my kids. Kia will not do anything about it. How can this be right. I know a lot of people with the same issues.
There was a sudden loss of power while in the middle of the highway. Further inspection resulted in low oil and metal flakes in the oil filter. At the time of initial loss of power there was absolutely zero warning or indication of any issues at all.
I was driving my 2018 kia Sedona on [xxx]. I had all 4 of my kids with me in the van, I heard a click, click, click, then the car went dark, in the middle of the road no warning nothing. There was no light or anything that came on as a warning. It just died. It was scary to go through that with my kiddos. We are devastated as the car is only 6yrs old and it wont work at all. Had it towed to my local auto shop. They said the engine is defective and needs to be replaced. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
On June 6th 2024 my 2016 kia Sedona experienced sudden power loss accompanied by thick smoke out of the exhaust and a loud ticking while on a busy main intersection. Kia's gross negligence to recall its known troubled engines is causing needless highway incidents. From stolen cars, engine failures and now fires, this is the second kia I have had fail.
I received a letter from kia America, inc. Extending the warranty on the high pressure fuel pump on my 2020 kia Sedona. They claim that the fuel control valve plunger may wear unevenly and over time become stuck in the open position. They state different things can happen including stalling. My research found that it can cause stalling at high speeds or in heavy traffic and it may cause a loss of control over the vehicle. Are they trying to avoid a recall. I am 82 and this sounds real dangerous. Does a serious accident have to happen before a recall is ordered? I have attached a copy of the letter below. Jerry oppenberg cell (973) 271-8358 email: jerbons@aol. Com.
First, the fuel pump was acting up was told the relay was going bad replaced the relay, than we have "esc" and abs light come one for a bout a week took it to get the code read and they said all four wheel sensors (abs) were not transmitting signals ans that my steering angle sensor was bad which I dont think it is equipped with one now today as of 1/6/2024 esc, abs and brake all light up and solid at the same time and ti lost my brakes. No we had no inspections we had warning lights the esc abs & brake with a warning alarm.

There is a strong gasoline smell inside and outside of the vehicle. This is a fire risk and breathing hazard. I took the vehicle to a mechanic to be diagnosed/repaired on 10/13/2022. The mechanic confirmed there was a leak and stated that he had never seen a leak in this area of the vehicle before. He stated based on where it was that he believes it is a manufacturer defect. The fuel line was replaced at the cost of $699. 16. However, the gasoline smell inside and outside of the vehicle remains. I contacted kia customer service on 10/17/2022 and they said there were no recalls associated with this issue and I was on my own for getting it repaired. There have been no warning lights/indications related to this ongoing safety issue. A recall was issued for the 2011-2012 kia Sedona for the same reason. In that recall (sc188), the fuel rails are to be replaced.
Driving and van started decelerating while still pressing gas. Got off road. Turned off van. Smelled something burning. Called tow truck. Tried to re-start and won’t turn over. Mechanic said the fuel rails too low code and cylinder misfire. Engine is now damaged due hydraulic lock. Kia recalled 2011-2012 vans for defective fuel rail and possible fire. Will not assist as we are 2nd owners and don’t fall under warranty. It def could have caught on fire based on what I researched. Please advise.

Car was delivered to kia of south austin for repair as per sc165a (airbag recall) and for sc188 (fuel rail recall) on Monday may 25th. Dealer confirmed that there is a fuel leak at the fuel rail location. Dealer was instructed by Kia Motors of America to disable the car until a remedy is available. It is now Saturday may 30th and there is no remedy timeline for the fuel leak and the dealer refuses to conduct the airbag remedy.
On 4/25 we noticed a smell of gasoline when driving the vehicle. We had the issue corrceted on 4/27/2020 at a out of pocket cost of $1090 2nd time submitting claim. Have not received any info on original claim from may 2020.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 kia Sedona. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 20v101000 (fuel system, gasoline) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer nor the dealer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Starting about Feb 10, 2020, a raw gasoline smell was noticed when my 2011 kia Sedona lx vehicle stopped at stop lights or when engine turned off after returning home. Smell dissipated after several minutes with engine off. Raw gasoline smell got progressively worse whenever car engine was running. Smell came inside car with heater fan operating. No leaks on ground were noted at any time. Took car to my mechanic on Feb 19, 2020. He removed air filter on top of engine and immediately noted puddles of raw gasoline near fuel injectors and fuel rail. After removal of rail, he found cracks in the plastic fuel rail. He had a new fuel rail from kia shipped next day air. He replaced rail and some parts of defective fuel injectors. He commented we were very lucky not to have had an engine fire. I noted today, Feb 27, 2020 an announced recall for 2011-2012 kia Sedona for fuel rail leaks. I do not know if my vehicle is in the recall list. But I do know we were lucky to have no fire in the engine from this defective fuel rail part! my mechanic could not believe this part was made out of a plastic polymer! and it is very expensive to buy!!! he checked local kia dealer and they said repair costs would be about $2000. Wow, for a defective plastic part and labor to replace.
Check engine light came on when I started the car in the morning, and the gas door would not open. Went to dealership for service . They found #1 fuel canister/canister close the valve has a possible crack and #2 fuel door button and actuator needs to be replaced . They popped the gas door open so I can refill.
10-26-19 driving on hwy at 60 mph on sat. Night and I could tell the car had lost power to the engine. Coasted to an empty parking lot. Tried to crank. It would crank and then die. Lights still worked. There was a strong smell of gasoline when trying to crank. Had to have it towed 60 miles to home. Tried to crank the following day and smoke billowed out of the exhaust. Gasoline smell extremely strong.
While driving van, smelled fuel. Went into a store and later returned to drive vehicle home and van heavily smelled of fuel. When I checked the engine after returning home , fuel was raining from the fuel injector rail. Immediately brought the van to a mechanic who informed us the fuel rail rod had split down a weld seam and was covering the engine in fuel. He had never seen this issue before in all his years as a mechanic. Issue is currently a recall on other kia/Hyundai models but not this specific model.
I was driving on interstate 40 west when NY wife & I smelled gas coming through the air vents. After getting to greensboro, nc, discovered that we had a gas leak in in front fuel rod. After checking online I discovered that we were not the only kia Sedona owners that are having this same issue. The fuel rod is made of plastic and is under pressure.
Fuel systems is unsafe.
While driving a strong fuel smell was coming through the vents. Took to dealer they said no leak - instead tried to solve the fumes by cleaning ac vents. Drove it home and the fuel smell is still quite strong. Had another person look at it while the car was running after we drove it around the block and removed the engine cover the fuel was dripping from the fuel rail. That is where the fumes were coming from.
The fuel injector rail under the intake manifold has cracked between the first and second injectors (as counting from the serpentine belt side of engine). My wife and I noticed this on September 1st, 2018 because of a strong gas smell after our van was parked. I removed the intake manifold thinking a fuel injector seal had failed but discovered the cracked rail instead. The cracked rail was allowing fuel to puddle on top of the engine and the fuel was boiling off when the van was hot.
I purchased my 2012 kia Sedona on 8-11-2018 & found out that they sold me a vehicle on the recall list. I said there was a safety issue on a recall list & after battling cancer & an 8 month survivor, I don't want this vehicle that could cause my demise. When I attempted to return to the kia dealership here in daytona beach, FL, they said when I drove it off the lot I would lose thousand dollars towards another (safe) vehicle. I feel this was wrong not only to sell me an unsafe vehicle, but for me to lose $ on another vehicle is wrong. Please call me on my cell#386-333-1814. Joanne d utterback. Thank you for your help.
The vehicle caught on fire while parked in the driveway and burned to the ground. We contacted Kia Motors regarding this. It took them weeks before they sent out a representative to inspect the vehicle. Upon inception of the vehicle they simply denied that the engine fire was caused by faulty parts and declined responsibly for the it!.
There was an intermittent gas smell coming through air vents. There was no visible indication of fuel leakage. The source was a cracked fuel rail. The problem was found and repaired by the dealer. The engine and running gear were still under warrantee but the rail was not included.
Door laches lock, electrical stability , engine filter.
