Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problems of the 1998 Kia Motor Sephia

Two problems related to brake hoses, lines/piping, and fittings have been reported for the 1998 Kia Motor Sephia. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2000

Brake line hose busted while driving on expressway at about 50 mph, and there was total brake failure. Consumer had to use the emergency brake to stop vehicle.

2 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

On 1996-1999 kia Sephias the left front brake hose rubs against a 12 or 14 mm bolt head during turns, causing wear on the hose in as little as 10,000 miles. The bolt is used to attach a splash shield in the wheel well on some but not all Sephias. As a technician I have seen this wear on numerous Sephias and feel it is only a matter of time before these brake hoses fail and cause accidents and possibly deaths.
