Alternator fails car battery goes dead causing you to have a hard time steering and unable to shift gears roll down windows or use safety flashers because you have no power! we had been on the expressway going 70 and were so lucky to have just pulled into our bank when failure occurred!! a few minutes earlier and my wife who was driving would of crashed because of lost of power steering going out and weak shoulder strength from shoulder surgery. The car is 23 days over 5 years and had 43757 miles at5 time of failure. This vehicle needs to be recalled because the alternator failure is a safety hazard because I believe the alternator is underpowered for all it is asked to do much in the way of the 2000-2007 kia spectra which is a recalled vehicle>.
My 2015 Sorento (original owner) just flat out died while driving in the left passing lane on interstate 85n from the airport in atlanta (in the pouring rain 6/8/2019) and without any warning. Not only did it just stop running "everything died" no lights, no hazards; no power windows etc. It would not even acknowledge the key fob. The SUV was completely dead. I was so lucky to not have been hit by another vehicle. Once the hero truck pushed me across 8 lanes to safety; I had to have my SUV towed to the dealer. The diagnosis: the alternator and battery were both bad and had to be replaced for 1500. 00. What?? of course, the warranty had just expired the month before; mileage just had turned 50k. I was completely shocked as no indicators of anything going bad occurred. No warning lights; no hesitation starting; no dimming lights, no noise; etc. it had full power; everything was normal! my SUV had every maintenance performed on time and was still 2k away from its next service. This incident not only placed me in a very dangerous situation it troubles me greatly there was no warning at all. Again, no indicator or symptom of anything wrong. This SUV is my 2nd Sorento and will be my last kia. I do not feel safe in this brand of vehicle. I want to add my first sorrento; (2008 ex model, I can supply a VIN too) also had a major repair event occur right after its warranty expired (within 2 months); the rear differential went bad and had to be replaced. I really wonder if this is a trend with kia; major issues occuring rsoon after warranty expires; major repairs/costs are the result; not to mention the issue placing you in a dangerous situation without warning. Something is wrong here. I have never experienced this with any other vehicle I have owned right neither right after a warranty expires or even close after and when I do? both were sorrentos.
I just recently made a post here yesterday . . . And after reading comments, I thought I'd add on. My comments have to do with a 2015 kia Sorento which needs a new motor because bolts that hold the head to the block are stripped (I smelled antifreeze). Obviously, not my fault. Mileage is 102,000. Kia doesn't want to help me fix this. Telling me I need a new motor at a cost of $7,000+. After reading the comments, I had to add on. Two weeks after we bought the car used, the fuel pump went. That cost was covered. A short time later, the back-up camera went. Kia wanted $1,000 to fix that; we had it fixed for $200 out of pocket. The alternator went on the car (I think we paid for that). My door handle also fell off, we had that fixed out of pocket. From everything I've read, kia doesn't care about the consumer or their safety. I bought a new kia in 2004, traded it in in 2007 for another new kia, which I still have. It has 278,000 miles on it! we bought the 2015 used and it's been one thing after another. Can't sell it as is, gotta fix it. I've been a loyal kia owner since 2004 . . . Won't be anymore. First opportunity to sell this car, it's gone. And there won't be another one in my driveway. Whoever heard that a 2015 car needs a new motor?!?! and their refusal to help us is unbelievable. I'm so angry.
