40 Seats problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 09/29/2018

The 2nd row right side seat is stuck in the down position. It has always been tough to move up and down but I thought it would get better as we used it. That sure didnt happen! as a family that uses the 3rd row quite often I am very upset to see that there are many people who have had the same issue! this does not appear to be an easy fix as some have had the whole chair replaced.

41 Seats problem of the 2015 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 09/07/2018

Tl the contact owned a 2015 kia Sorento. While the contact's vehicle was at a complete stop at a red light, another vehicle failed to stop and rear ended the contact's vehicle. The crash pushed the contact's vehicle into the intersection. The driver's seat separated from the base and caused the driver's seat to move backwards and forward, causing the driver's body to strike the rear passenger and driver's seat railings, the driver's window, driver's door, and dashboard. The driver suffered injuries to the neck, head, and face. The contact was seated in the front passenger seat and suffered seat belt bruises and lower back pain. The driver and passenger side air bags failed to deploy. The driver required medical attention. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to a collision shop. A police report was filed. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.

42 Seats problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 09/06/2018

Kia Sorento 2013 2nd row seat (passenger side) stuck down, this is the 2nd time I have had it fixed. I bought the car brand new in 2012, and it has always been difficult to operate, lever sometimes would feel stuck. I would have to sometimes press on the seat to make the lever work, or shake the seat while pulling on the lever. First time it broke while trying to put the seat down it would not go down and felt like the lever was not engaged happened at home December 2015. I had it fixed on Feb 11 2016 at the dealership, and it was considered under warranty. It broke again a month ago August 2018 while I was parked and trying to put the seat back up, it would not go back up. The lever would move but it did not allow the seat to go back up. I brought it in for an estimate on sept 6 2018. The estimate says "needs lever, cables and hinges") $500 parts and $300 labor. I see that there are several kia owners with the same problem and wondering if kia is recalling it.

43 Seats problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 08/16/2018

My airbag light went off a few months ago. I originally thought is was a short because it went off anytime I moved the passenger seat around. I had my service tech check it a few times, and he reset it. He eventually said I should take it to kia. They diagnosed it and said the OCS mat was bad. It was the passenger seat occupancy sensor. I was quoted $2601. 29 for just the part! they said I needed the whole cushion assembly. This is totally ridiculous. Imo, they should put a backup switch to override this if they're going to put faulty parts in their seats. Or, they should construct a better way to repair these without a complete seat replacement. It basically means, if I was in a head on collision, the passenger side airbag wouldn't think anyone is present in the seat. So, it wouldn't trigger the airbag on that side. I've contemplated building a bypass to force the airbag to go off even if no one is in the seat during a collision. It was so bad for the 2009 version, that you can purchase the bypass for $50. But, there's no good documentation on the 2012 model. I do have 142,000 miles on the car. But, I would bet that the passenger seat has been used about 30% of that. So, this is a case of a bad part. I have pampered this car. It still looks new. I paid it off and had planned to drive it until it blew up. Now, I'm considering getting rid of it and buying a new car. I'd prefer to drive free for awhile. But, I'm certainly not paying $3000 to fix this. I knew they had a recall on previous models for this exact same thing. I'm not convinced they changed anything for the 2012 model. But, that's just my opinion. I can provide additional documentation for this as needed.

44 Seats problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 07/01/2018

All accessories on steering wheel have gone out: radio controls no longer work, cruise control does not work, bluetooth capability(answering/ending phone calls) no longer works, and now the horn does not work. Having a working horn is part of the safety equipment on a vehicle. One day while parked, I honked the horn to get my sons attention and it did not work. The horn just stopped working. Another time I was making a left turn and some idiot not paying attention almost did not stop, as I was turning I honked the horn(forgetting it had not been working previously) and it worked just that one time. It has not worked since! how does that happen? also, the head rest on front seats are poorly designed, both have come off completely.

45 Seats problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 03/31/2018

Hello, I am 2nd owner @51,000 k with no known accidents to this SUV. From 51,073k I discovered the 2nd row seat latch was faulty and I couldn't fold the seat down. I had the latch replaced and it was fine and only used it about eight imes. Then @ 68,000k found it was using/ burning oil. The repair cost quoted for this is $3,600. Ever since I've had to add up to four quarts of 5w20 between oil changes. At 85,000k the same seat latch quit working again. I was quoted $110 for the replacement latch and book install calls for 3. 1 hours equalling close to $340. Also from 87,000k to current (116,007k) there has been a slurry of seemingly random oddities: a) the electrical system has had five glitches. Moments lasting less than 40 sec. Where all the warning lights flash and chimes sound, completely out of the blue. It has happened while driving, while parked but running and when starting after getting fuel. B) the ignition switch sticks occ. Which sounds the 'key in' chime and prevents doors from locking. C) there is an insane amount of air flow coming in around the door hinge areas, center console/ arm rest and beneath the seats; front and back. Temporary fix, in the IA winters my children and I have blankets over our laps and behind our legs. . . And the extra winter garm is strategically placed to try and block air flow. D)the motor makes a ping/ knock, metal on metal sound @69k. Fresh to 72hr oil its fine. E) the driver airbag light came on @115,996k. I drove to town, 7. 4 miles, the light was off, nothing wrong. I parked, left SUV running at the gas, ran inside to grab coffee and doughnuts, came out less than five mins later and saw the light on. Stayed on after I buckled. Thankfully it's not flashing, just on, as of 7:36am on 3/31/18. Please help. I'm one adult trying to care for two kids. My children and other drivers need better safety than this. Thank you.

46 Seats problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 12/01/2017

The middle right side seat is defective - it is stuck in the down position; the dealership said a cable broke and they could not fix it and it is $600 for a new seat. My daughter simply tried to raise the seat; nothing out of the ordinary. I searched salvage yards to find a replacement and found out everytime a Sorento arrives at the yard, that particular seat is snatched up. I've also gone online and found it to be a chronic problem - the mechanism is faulty and there should be a no-charge fix for it.

Seat sensor on my kia Sorento for the airbag light does not work. When a passenger sets in the front passenger seat the airbag off light stays on. You put the vehicle in gear, you drive and the light stays on. City or highway travel, the light stays on all the time indicating the passenger airbag if off.

51 Seats problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 03/21/2017

My 2013 kia Sorento with a theta 2. 4 liter engine experienced complete engine failure at 63,000 miles; on Tuesday 3/21/17. When my engine failed/heard loud engine noises I was driving on highway I-10 north in tucson az rush hour traffic, I had to coast over immediately to the side of the highway, very dangerous lucky no accident. I uncovered important information about kia theta 2. 4 liter engine problems. Spoke to kia certified master technician; morgan that took apart my engine for warranty evaluation. He said they have been seeing this engine problem; it's failure of the #3 cylinder connecting rod, feels it's an engineering mistake, the port sizes for the oil flow are not sized properly, causing insufficient oil flow overtime and complete engine failure. My engine looked brand new, there was no sludge build up, and the oil pump looked brand new as well. I have attached pictures for proof. There were very small bronze colored metal flakes in the oil pan; he said it was like panning for gold in the oil pan. The metal flake erosion didn't happen overnight this was slowly happening with every mile being driven; the metal from the connecting rod bearings eroded overtime in small metal flakes and collected in the oil pan. I had peoria kia in peoria, az do my last warranty inspection & maintenance service/oil change on my 2013 kia Sorento in December 2016. I especially asked the service advisor to check out everything including the engine before the 60,000 mile second owner powertrain warranty was about to expired. Kia knew about the numerous past warranty claims on this 2. 4 liter engine, a quick oil analysis would have shown metal debris particulates in the oil, indicating a serious engine problem developing. The metal shavings collecting in the oil pan that should have been detected beforehand.

54 Seats problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Sorento

This model has 3 rows of seats. The 3rd row is pulled to the upright position from the back hatch access door. However, there does not appear to be a logical way to get to this 3rd row of seating without physically crawling on hands and knees. What am I missing ?.

56 Seats problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 07/16/2016

Passenger side 2nd row seat was extremely difficult to fold down since the first day I bought it. Now it is stuck and will not fold down at all. The latch seems to be broken. My kids were stuck in the 3rd row seat until I could remove my baby's car seat base to lay down the driver side 2nd row to let them climb out. Had I been in a hurry to get them out it would have been impossible to do so.

57 Seats problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 07/07/2016

Kia sent a notice that they are extending the warranty for the front airbag clock spring assembly. My airbag light is staying illuminated so I took it into the dealer for a diagnostic. The dealer informed me that the issue is not the clock spring assembly its the occupant classification mat. This means that if I am in a crash my front airbag will not deploy and I am risking the life of my passenger. Why is this issue not included with the notice that they sent since it also involves the airbag and the airbag sensor?.

58 Seats problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 06/10/2016

The lever to fold down the second row seat has gotten stuck since I got the car. It was so hard to operate sometimes that no matter how much force you use the seat back lever will not release. The dealer is telling me the gear that holds the seat in place is not working. They say many kia sorrentos have the same problem. Now the seat is in the down position and I can not get it back up. The dealer tells me it will cost $350 to have the lever replaced even though it has never worked. The middle saftey belt has never worked either. Every time I take it to the dealer they say it is fixed. When I get home it doesn't work.

67 Seats problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 07/20/2015

Dash light with the airbag logo came on as I was starting up today, and stayed on. Went straight to kia dealership, the one we always use. Service advisor said he's seen a lot of them, same problem. He agreed that $2,000 was very expensive for this repair. This malfunction disables all the airbags. In the event of an accident, we are toast. Kelly blue book rates this vehicle at a value of $9500, in mint condition, which this is. 21% of the value for a repair? are you kidding me? very disappointed that this is an issue for so many ( I did check the internet, it's a common problem) and no one chooses to take it seriously. We just went around with the tire pressure monitoring system, and finally they replaced that on a recall, but we had a blowout on I-81 at 70 mph that could've ended our life. . . . . Someone needs to look into this. I appreciate anything you can do.

68 Seats problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 06/02/2015

When a cushion (small pillow) is used (I am a short person) on the front passenger's seat, the air bag detetecor turns off the passenger air bag leaving the passenger unprotected. I have contacted the dealer's service dept. And was told there was no work-around for this problem. I also contacted Kia Motors and was told the same thing. . Not fixable. Sitting in the front passenger seat is uncomfortable for me (arm rest height, windshield visibility, etc. ) without the small pillow. I cannot believe there is no way to disconnect the sensor (which I was told was weight sensitive. . . . Obviously not, because my weight is the same with or without the pillow). This leaves me without air bag protection or else uncomfortable. Had I known this in advance, I would not have purchased this vehicle. Not all people are the same height (I'm 5'3". . . Not all that short) and if kia was putting in this system, they should have made the front passenger seat height adjustable. . . Doesn't have to be electric, just adjustable in height. It is an unsafe condition which you have no knowledge of until you read the owner's manual. . . . A manual you don't have access to until after you've purchased the car. It needs to be corrected.
