Wheel Problems of Kia Motor Sorento - part 1

As per a consumer affairs article, hub assembly and wheel speed sensors should be covered by power train and/or relevant warranty that comes with kia. In 2021, after an oil change, certain sensors on the dashboard started showing up, and the dealership informed me that the wheel speed sensor and hub assembly needs to be changed. Though the warranty should have automatically covered it, I had to repeatedly communicate with the kia customer service center before it was authorized. Though this part is supposed to last for 80000-100000 miles, something similar happened after an oil change, and the diagnosis from local car service center again pointed to the same hub assembly for the same wheel. I ended up redoing this service. Should this be covered considering that it came with a certain lifetime warranty and was a replacement by the oem? is there a concern about quality as it happened twice well before the normal time frame, and should I be reimbursed and compensated for the inconvenience caused. Please clarify. Dates: 9/27/21(confirmed); 10/04/21 (supposedly installed); 08/08/25 (reinstalled).

My vehicle has a breaking issue. When breaking the breaks either hard break or get sticky and grab, release, and grab. This is scary. Sometimes you are slowing down on a 55mph road and suddenly you hard break even though you weren’t slamming down on the breaks! I have almost been rear ended multiple times. The problem has been reproduced by myself, a few friends, and family members. However, the dealership says it is normal. I know it’s not! I’ve had this vehicle for 42000 miles! this has not been checked by the police. This started after the dealership replaced my tires.

We were driving on highway at 120 kmh. The road was smooth and we had no error/service dash lights illuminated. Suddenly we heard a loud bang and we lost total control of the vehicle. We (hit) slid onlong the concrete highway which prevented the car from flipping and entering oncoming traffic. Our terrifying experience lasted about 8 seconds until we came to a stop. We were fortunate that we were not crashed into by nearby traffic. The original manufacturer alloy rear left wheel shattered. I have pictures of the wheel. The wheel totally separated from the hub. The tire was in good condition and we didn't hit any bumps or pothole. I notified kia about this issue with reference # [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Reason is unknown, was driving down road and car yanked to the right cause family to wreck in to a guard rail, no lights appeared before wreck, it was not raining and was not speeding. Clear sunny day. Police report has been made and has made several attempts to contact kia, car has been in body shop since July. Wreck has happened in July. Car is still at body shop kia told body shop there was no time line on getting any parts to repair, they do not know if it will be this year.

The wheels provided with the new vehicle are not the correct wheels for the car. On page 639 of the owners manual: "2023 Sorento phev om 10. Pdf" section 9 "specifications, consumer information and reporting safety defects", page 6. The paragraph with title tires and wheels, has two tables; "for hybrid vehicle" and "for plug-in hybrid vehicle". The new vehicle was delivered with tires: p235 55r19 101h (listed in the table for hybrid vehicle) the manufacturer specifies p235/55r19 105v for the phev. On this same page there is a caution paragraph: "when replacing tires, use the same size originally supplied with the vehicle. Using tires of a different size can damage the related parts of make it work irregullarly. " I asked the dealer, grand kia of thornton colorado, about this. They said that these are the correct tires. I talked to the salesman, who said he called several dealers who agree that the hybrid tires are the same for the phev. I opened a case with kia care (case # 1639-1874) who sent me to the dealer to inspect and document the tires. Peak kia of colorado springs points to a section of the manual "tires and wheels"; where there is an example of how to read a tire, using p235/55r19 101h as the example. They said this is the evidence that I have the correct tire! kia said the dealer determines if action is required. The dealer ignores the "specifications" part of the owners manual, which I referred and sent copies to them. I am concerned that the vehicle may have adverse results from the lower load rating and speed rating, which could be a danger to occupents and other cars, in an emergency manuver or when fully loaded.

The component that malfunctioned was the dashboard. The dashboard began flashing and caused the wheels on the kia Sorento to lock while on the highway. The car also had a burn smell. The car was turned off and then I was able to drive normally. A couple of weeks later the malfunction indicator light has turned of intermittently. The electrical issues are causing the cars blind spot warning system to not work properly and as well as seats to stop moving in the car. I have reached out to kia customer care line so that they could tow the vehicle once the mil came on and they said they I would have to pay out of pocket since the recall is in the "interim" phase. I called southern kia in chesapeake, va and they stated the car would have to be evaluated but that they do not have appointments any time soon.

Rear coupler parts. Yes it is available for inspection on request. My safety was put at risk, #1 the rear wheels lock when turning, and makes a horrendous noise whilst turning. I live in a snowy state so this is very dangerous to have wheels lock up and have tires shredded. This is my third set of wheels as we just figured out the issue (coupler) this could cause accidents and hurt/injure/cause serious bodily harm to others. I have tried reaching out to the dealership but they said it is out of warranty and the dealership gave an outrageous quote. They have not inspected it but it has been reported to them. The vehicle has been inspected by a mechanic and confirmed it is the coupler, while steering and shredding the tires. There were no lights or warning signals, it just happened while turning.

While driving on freeway, approximately 70mph, on my way to work, I all of a sudden without warning was unable to control my vehicle with the steering wheel. Somehow I seemed to have lost control of the steering wheel and the vehicle spun around. I could have collided with another vehicle or could have been hit by oncoming traffic, but thankfully I was not near to any other vehicles at the time of incident. I was unable to drive it afterwards as the entire back left wheel was completely detached. I had to get the vehicle towed back to my house then eventually to kia. Kia will not admit faulty equipment although that is the only explanation of the incident that happened on the freeway. The entire left rear suspension system has to be repaired. Althought there are no signs of a collision with the vehicle, kia and the extended warranty company is attempting to place blame on me being in a collision, which is 100% inaccurate.

I have new brakes put on as well as had my tires balanced and rotated and a wheel alignment. However, my 2018 kia Sorento sx v6 awd shakes when I apply pressure to the brakes when I am on the highway. If I get to a certain speed and apply brakes to slow down while approaching traffic, my car shakes terribly. I thought that rotating, getting new brakes and an alignment would help but it did not. This is my second kia Sorento, and I had the same exact issue with the previous one.

Drove approximately 6 miles from home to grocery store, parked car, did shopping and on way home 3 lights lite up on dash, abs - esc-tpms. Just had serviced on 8/1/2022 with 111279 miles, currently has 111,378 miles on it. Vehicle is garage kept and I'm retired. I have had the car serviced at the dealership where vehicle was purchased.

I was driving when the car did a complete stop and the tires was smoking.

Sensor lights came on detecting problems. 5/7/2022.

Abs traction system and wheel speed sensor - my Sorento has driven only around 37000 miles and has been maintained well on a regular basis. Recently, I noticed tpms sensor light on, and took it for oil change while also asked the service provider to check the tire pressure. The service center personnel identified two tires on the passenger side having lower tire pressure and refilled air, which addressed the tpms sensor light. However, the following day while I was getting ready to take my daughter for a doctor visit, I noticed the abs, traction light and slope align assist sensors being on. While running an obd2 scanner test on it, it turned out to be an issue with left rear wheel speed sensor. Though my car has gone past the warranty, I have not driven much as can be seen by the miles. Moreover, I also know a close member in my network purchasing a very similar car around the same time, but has driven a lot more miles. However, that car still has not shown any issue with the sensors. While digging further, I noticed that many others have seen a similar issue with these sensors, even after two or three years since the release, that were shared in kia based forums. Being a safety concern, I would appreciate your department to look into this matter to see whether there is a manufacturing issue with these sensors.

The rear wheel speed sensor housing covers are prone to water intrusion. The rear wheel sensor signal is interrupted and illuminates the abs(anti-lock brakes),the esc(electronic stability control) and the downhill sensor warning lights in the instrument cluster. Kia fixed the problem on July 24 2017. The same problem is occuring again (the warning lights came on last month) and kia states that its out of warranty. I am not certain if it is a safety concern, but I don't want my rear wheels to fall off. Thank you.

Vehicle is not being driven because the axle is busted. We are not sure why his happened. When I drive the Sorento, it pulls to the right very strong. I am not sure how long it takes fort that to happen, but it happens every time the car reaches a full stop. Also, when I maneuver and make. Turn to the left, it sounds like it pops. It's a scary feeling.

First, the brake lights kept going out. Finally found a loose wire. Then, the abs, downhill, skid lights all came on at the same time. Found one wheel where it is not reading speed. Next, the gas cover does not open now. There has been one issue after another with this car. I get it serviced, monthly. It is up to date on oil changes, inspections, fluid and I am about to replace all brakes, pads, rotors and tires. I feel like this care, which I have only had for four and a half years, is done.

Please be advised this is in addition to the fuel tank corrosion previously reported. The underside of the vehicle is eaten up with rust. It is affecting the unit body as well as several structural members of the vehicle. Have spoken with kia and they refuse to do anything about it. I feel that this is a serious issue as it is affecting the entire structural integrity of the vehicle.

I bought a brand new kia Sorento. After about 7000 miles I noticed chunks of rubber missing from my tires. I called khumo they told me to take it to kia. I took it to my dealer and they did nothing. Now I have 20000 miles on my vehicle and the same tires are cupping. This is going to end up with someone dying and I do not want to be that person.

There has been a droning noise coming from the left front tire at speeds over 15 mph for a couple of months, and it continues to get louder.

Have had a lot of suspension issues related to alignment, tye rods, bearings - lots of loud noises with every bump. I have gotten some issues fixed only to have the same issues within about two months.

Whenever weather is moist or rainy the engine has bogged down while driving and has no power even with gas peddle pressed to floor. This has left us stranded twice now but when taken to be checked they can't diagnose the problem. Also tpms is always on even though tire pressures have been checked and it will not go off. Has been this way for over 1 1/2 years now with no explanation.

Unusually rapid tire wear on front tires is going to require the 2nd replacement of all 4 tires within a 13 month period covering a total of 16,440 miles. The vset ofehicle was purchased used with new set of tires in 9/2018 (22,205 mi), by 3/2019, (31,648 mi) two tires were bald and required replacement of all 4 tires as car has all-wheel-drive. . Again, by 10/14/2019 (38. 650 mi) two tires are down to < 2/32nds (safety nubs) requiring the 2nd replacement of all 4 tires within a 13 month period. All tires have been per kia specifications and speed rating (23560r18 103h). In all cases the tires have worn evenly and no alignment problems or subject to unusual driving conditions or use. Tires are rotated every 5,000 mi. . Mechanics consulted have not seen this unusual wear rate and acknowledge the even wear pattern and no alignment problem. Appears something is drastically wrong with the vehicle versus the tires.

All 4 tires on 2016 kia Sorento are dry rotting at very fast pace. The tires are michel8n premier ltx 235 55/r19 m&s which should last 60,000 miles. I am at 39,600 at current time. Dry rot is very apparent on each tire. I bought this vehicle brand new w tires as noted on it at kia dealership in newport news va in 2016.

Bearings, suspension and steering issue: took car to get tire changed and ever since the bearins and steering is off. Steering wheel shakes once I try to go faster than 55 mph.

First issue began when car started pulling to right when going around corners on highway. Took to shop; paid for new brakes including pads, rotors, front calipers plus front driver side ball joint replaced. Ball joint rusted out so bad it crumbled to pieces when tire was taken off. Not out of shop for even a full day when the car started pulling again. This time it was a hard pull to the right while going straight on highway and in town. This time the pull was so strong the car went off road. This time it felt like steering went out completely. So back to shop to find out that the front passenger side ball joint was also shot and needed replaced. Car been out of shop barely 2 wks; now front end is making a hard clunky noise when turning and going over just the slightest bumps. The car feels like you are driving over boulders and sounds like the whole front end is about to fall apart. So back to the shop for third time in less than one month. Read multiple complaints online regarding these same issues? im pretty sure I'll be paying for struts, shocks and/or complete repair of front end suspension after already putting $800 in to it. How has this car not been recalled for such issues?.

Three warning lights came on simultaneously while I was driving down the highway at 65 mph. The warning lights were the abs, traction control, and down hill. I took it to precision tune for a diagnosis and was told I need a passenger rear wheel speed sensor.

Hello, I purchased a car from george taylor aka micheal booker. When I brought. The car to tge mechanic he said that the axcel struts and hubs were glued togteher and it was melting I called mr booker to let him know to please give me my miney back he refused to. He said he would get it fixed if I paid for the parts I paud for the parts and the car is still not fixxed I took him to court and won he wont pay me is past thirty day and im still out of a car and my money. . "takata recall" I purchase my 2014 kia Sorento from a used dealer with 85,052 miles on it. In July I started hearing some loud popping noise so, I contacted my vehicle service contract and was advise that it needed to go to a shop, upon going to the shop it was diagnosis and I was told it had a sec147 engine recall dues to this issue back in September of 2017 this same vehicle had an sec147 engine recall also along with rear wheel speed sensor inside the hubs.

My wife drives this car primarily. She asked me last week to see what I thought about weird noises from the rear brakes when applying. I could not recognize the noises, so I took it to a local shop. The technician has found extreme rust issues with the rear axle link brackets on the axle housing being rusted out and no longer connected. I have dealt with vehicle repair most of my life, and know this is an extremely dangerous condition. My wife carries her 83 year old mother, and our 3 year old grand daughter. I will not allow her to drive it until I am able to get it on a lift and investigate for myself. I do not have a spare vehicle at this time I have found this to be a very widespread problem on these autos, and am inquiring if there is any knowledge of there being a recall for this issue.

The car is moving proceeds to come to a crawl and stop I have a video and the dealership is clueless. This has happened multiple times.

Abnormal tire wear. Chunks of tread missing from two front tires. I am original owner of vehicle. As instructed by dealer, vehicle serviced on 5/19/17 at 15,345 miles. Service includes tire rotation and alignment. Multipoint inspection reveals tires at 7 lf 7 rf 8 lr 8 rr, brakes front 7 & 7, rear 8 & 8. On 9/18/17, at 17,972 miles, vehicle presented to dealer for recall replacement of front door handles. During this visit, vehicle inspection reveals two front tires wearing abnormally. Multi point inspections reveals 6 lf 6 rf 6 lr 6 rr. Front brakes 8 & 8, rear brakes 7 1/2 & 7 1/2. Service adviser suggest alignment. Service adviser reports vehicle alignment only needed minor adjustment, not significant to produce the wear and apparent loss of tread presenting on two front tires. Service adviser makes inquires on any extreme driving conditions including extensive driving on gravel roads or extreme stopping. As the sole driver of vehicle I can attest that vehicle has not been placed in any extreme driving situation. Vehicle driven approximately 650 miles per month. Dealer service adviser states he has never seen this in 20 years. He explains that at the next oil change, vehicle mileage at around 20,000 miles, tires will be checked and then rotated at the next scheduled time. The multi point inspection documentation does not denote any abnormal tire wear. . All systems checked green on dealer documentation. Photos of front tires attached.
