Automatic Emergency Braking Problems of Kia Motor Soul

Hit a deer. Airbag did not deploy or emergency braking system didn't come on. Police took pictures of car. The car is at the repair shop now. Insurance company hasn't stated if it will be totaled. There were no other problems prior to incident.

I am filing this complaint to report a serious safety failure involving the service braking system and the failure of forward collision?avoidance assist (fca) and automatic emergency braking (aeb) on my 2021 kia Soul. During an imminent collision event, the vehicle failed to brake as expected, and fca/aeb did not activate, despite conditions that should have triggered emergency braking. This created an extremely dangerous situation and placed me and other motorists at risk of serious injury or death. The vehicle is currently subject to an active recall and has now been inoperable at the dealership for approximately one month under the lemon law process. The failure involved federally regulated safety systems, not supplemental or convenience features. I reported this incident to kia America customer care, but the manufacturer has declined to conduct a manufacturer?level safety investigation unless I personally pay for removal and shipment of the acu/event data recorder (edr). Kia America has also declined to provide any transportation assistance while the vehicle remains unsafe and inoperable and has referred the matter back to the dealership and my insurance instead. Kia America has stated in writing that they rely solely on dealerships for diagnosis and repair and that they will not investigate further unless I incur additional costs. This refusal to independently investigate a braking system failure raises serious safety concerns, particularly given the potential risk to other drivers if this defect is not addressed. Due to the prolonged loss of use of the vehicle, I am experiencing significant financial hardship and risk to my employment, as I can no longer afford a rental vehicle. I am submitting this complaint so that NHTSA is aware of a potential defect involving brake system failure and non?functioning collision?avoidance systems on this model.

When driving my vehicle under normal conditions, the car will unexpectedly slow down on its own, and the system brake lights and hazard lights will activate as if I am about to be in a collision, even though no accident is occurring. I have noticed this issue most frequently when I am stopped at a traffic light and begin to accelerate again. Once I turn the car off and restart it, the warning lights go away, but the issue continues to reoccur.

Shortly after purchasing the car (06/2024) while driving (regardless of the weather or temperature, whether it’s day, night, hot, cold, etc) all of my dash warning lights come on, complete adas system malfunction. It shows a code for my front camera through the kia connect app and says it’s chasis related. I have taken my car in multiple times for this and I still leave with it the same day hours later. Despite being told that both recommendations from my last service appointment had already been done, this is what I am left with. Even after being involved in a front end collision, none of my safety features (that have never not been on) never came into play, emergency braking never happened. Attaching most recent, first time addressing this issue was in August.

I was backing up into my parking place in an alley way. I was turning slightly to the right to fit in and the car started to accelerate. I hit the back wall with the rear of my car. I put the car into drive not realizing it was still accelerating. I had my right foot on the brake. When I put the car into drive it accelerate very quickly even with my foot on the brake and I crashed into a door garage, wrecking my car, the garage door and the vehicle parked inside the garage. The automatic emergency braking system never activated either.

When applying brakes over bumps the car sounds as if the brakes are locking up. When putting are in reverse and it uses the automatic emergency braking aggressively too early. I have already paid to replace the window motors due to all windows not working when using the button on drivers side buttons, since replacing those motors the vehicle still continues to have electrical malfunctions when rolling windows down they won't roll up.

Any time I apply the brakes while simultaneously hitting a bump, speed bump, etc, the brakes seems to loose power and the brakes seem to go to the floor. It's frightening! I have mentioned it to the kia dealer but they've not been able to identify the issue.

A. E. B. ,autonomous braking system has been a defect since the day it was delivered in 2018. The company and the dealership have attempted to fix this problem 13 times in five years, and it keeps coming back. They kept throwing parts at it until the warranty expired on 12/31/2023 and they refuse to fix it again. They will not extend the warranty or buy it back as requested. The factory tech that the company sent to look at it stated he did not know what was wrong with it back in 2019 but he will start with the forward camera. Fast forward to 2/2024 and I paid to have it looked at the dealer and the tech stated on the work order that he did not know what was wrong with it and he would start with the forward camera, same problem five years later. The car is like new with only 37,000 miles on it. Not only is it a defect but kia has been commenting fraud by hiding the defect. Now I have a car that cannot be fixed and I cannot sell. I have all of the work orders and communcation with kia. Your help in this issue will be appreciated.
