After buckling the seat belt on the front passenger seat and going down the road if you try to lean forward one finds that the seat belt is locked and will not permit any movement you have to release the seat belt and then return it to its parked position and then pull it back out again. Once that has been done you can move forward or pull on the belt only once before it locks up again. I feel very unsafe when the seat belt does this because I feel that in a serious accident one might not be able to release the seat belt if there was a lot of tension on the belt from its own tightening. One should be free to lean forward to open the glove compartment or turn to attend to matters in the back seats. I have actually simulated a scenario where there was extreme tension on the belt from pushing back in my seat and tightening the belt by pushing the belt back up over my shoulder and when I tried to release the belt it was so hard to press the release button that I had to ask my wife to get a rubber mallet and a long screwdriver so that I could hit the release button with the screw driver against the release button. It finally di disengage. I told my wife to go to the dealer and tell them to fix it and she was told there was nothing wrong with it. We had a 2013 kia Soul and the seat belts did the same thing. I find this situation to be extremely unsafe and in certain situations this problem could be the root cause of fatalities. I have mentioned this to the dealer in regard to the 2015 and they said they checked it and it works fine. It does not work fine by any standard. I think the dealer/kia know there's a problem but need to be told to fix it. At best this is a major nuisance and at worst it is a death trap from which without a knife one cannot escape.

Shortly after buying my new 2014 kia Soul in March 2014, I noticed that acceleration delayed usually from a stop light, stop sign or stop/go traffic and would need to pump gas for car to move then it will take off quick and almost become out of control, also feels as though lose power steering and proper braking. Dealer service could not find any error codes on scan so no fix. After 2nd attempt to look at problem I was told by service manager that if I was driving in eco mode that could be the issue. If kia knows this why even offer that mode? I also have a problem with the passenger front seat belt that only allows slight movement before it locks tight and does not retract without unlatching completely. Upon inspecting other cars on lot with service manager we found the optima, Soul, sportage all do the same thing on passenger front only allowing extending the seatbelt/or movement about halfway forward before it locks and will not retract. The gas mileage listed on window tag was over-inflated at 27 mpg it seems to average closer to 23-24 mpg. Finally I was in an accident which I rear-ended someone at stoplight and while I felt there should have been plenty of time to stop the brakes did not feel as though they worked at all, the car just kept going, the weather was dry. It was suggested by a brake & tire specialist to go to dealer for full inspection, but I hesitate to return to kia do to all my other issues that can¿¿t be figured out because the diagnostics can never find an error code. I will be taking my car in for a complete tear down by a 3rd party brake specialist for brake/sensor/master cylinder inspection as I don't even feel safe to drive this new car with approx 17,000 miles. I have since opened a case with kia consumer assistance due to the many ongoing issues.
As I was driving I had a sudden stop and my child was thrown from her seat as far as to the middle console from the back middle seatbelt. Upon investigating why this happened I noticed that the seatbelt retention was improperly working. As you pull it out it will not retract back into the seat as designed. I was scared and histerical because lord forbid if there was a collision my child could have been ejected from the vehicle and thrown out the front windshield. I called the dealership to see if could get it in the shop that day March 31,2014 and they were so swamped they made me an appointment for today April 2, 2014. I am so disappointed in the way this situation was handled on today the service dept. Played me in saying that it was tangled within the seat. There was no such thing the seatbelt moved freely locked at some points and didn't lock at some points I have video footage to show just minutes before taking my vehicle into the dealership right in front of the dealership. This type of safety issue needs to be rectified immediately before someone gets seriously hurt. On this specific day was the only time I used the middle seatbelt. I can't stress enough as to how much I'm a stickler for safety and especially seatbelt safety that this has happened in a brand new 2014 vehicle off the showroom floor. I bought the car on around February 22, 2014 I have been seen in evergreen kia 3 times as of today since I've owned the vehicle. Please don't let this complaint slip or fall into the cracks . I will follow through on all paper work filed for this and other future safety issues with the vehicle. I may be contacted at any time of day for any questions pertaining to this safety issue. This is major because seatbelts are made to enhance the safety of a life if worn properly in any vehicle. As I research kia has had a recall on the sportage and kia Soul for 2011 & 2012.
I had 3 people in the back seat but the center seat belt would not stay locked from the start. This didnt change regardless of how many times it was attempted. It has since been replaced by dealer because I complained it was a safety issue when I have 3 people in the back seat. The car has always had a small gradual drift to the right. Dealer didn't find anything. Later I had the alignment done by someone else. They showed me both front and rear driver side tires could not be aligned to true. They said the front will be fixed by new strut but back is a straight axle that cant be aligned. The car always drifted right and still does. I bought the car from the dealer with 10 miles on it.
Windshield wipers too slow on fastest speed. Old car had faster wipers. Seat belts hard to click and unclick, very awkward access to seatbelt buckle. Brakes: user force too hard, very fatiguing. When engine starts initial idle speed control not smooth goes up and down yet computer does not log an error. This is more than 50 rpm. American car would probably log error if car did that. Causes car to lurch unexpectedly when pulling out of driveway.
I was thrown against the drivers door (yes seat belt was properly on) and suffered a tbi as well as extreme brusing along the entire left side of my body why didn`t the side curtain airbags deploy?. I was rear-ended and the right rear tire was where the pasenger seat used to be. . Also the drivers seat broke in the prone position on impact as I was spinning across two oposing lanes of traffic.
My son was sitting in the right rear seat of a 2012 kia Soul when it was rear ended by a Honda crv going 35-40 mph. The impact pushed the kia into the Subaru in front of them setting off both airbags in the front. The seat belt my son was wearing did not lock or retract. He hit his head on the back headrest went forward into the headrest on the front seat and then back into his headrest. The seat belt did nothing to restrain his movement during the accident. The kia was totalled by the insurance company.

The only advantage with the 2015 is that the seats are wider and as such its not to hard to get the screwdriver against the release button to disengage the seat belt. The contact owns a 2011 kia Soul. The contact stated that after impacting the rear end of another vehicle, the air bags failed to deploy and the seat belt did not retract. A police report was filed and the driver sustained bruises and contusions. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 15,500.
I purchase a 2010 kia Soul ! on 12/31/2009. Soon after I notices how easily the pillars and parts of the door panel became scratched and nicked but the seat belt. Report it to kia USA and was issued a kia consumer # k1695129 and was informed that a fix would be coming in April then in June. I have heard nothing from kia since. The plastic is very soft and can even be damaged by a finger nail. I would like this sub-standard plastic to be replaced.

Tl-the contact owns a 2010 kia Soul. The contact stated that the middle rear seat belt retractor failed and the brakes made a noise when depressed, causing the brakes not to engage at a normal stopping distance. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the failures however, the dealer did nor perform a diagnostic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage 95,000. Kmj.
