When vehicle stopped at red light, foot on break. The whole car shut down and locked up and I was unable to move. I had to turn the car off and back on and jerk the wheel to get it to respond again. This happened twice in one drive. This is right after getting my car back from dealership for parts that had to be replaced due to a re-call.

While driving on the freeway, last month mid to late Feb, my steering wheel started spinning in one direction,. The control arm on the right side of the vehicle came off of the car's right front wheel and I skidded to the side of the road at approximately 65 to 70 miles per hour. Fortunately, there was not an accident. The control arms were replaced and there were no further incidents. Regardless, given the multiple engine recalls and problems with the kia Soul 2019 2. 0 plus, I have no confidence in it's integrity to the safety standards set. This is not only related to the car, but mostly due to the behavior of the company in its continued efforts to otherwise resist compliance with engine replacement after my mechanic both viewed rod bearings seeing they may impose some risk. (see previous complaint).

Turned my wheel to pull out of a parking spot. I heard a grinding noise as I moved forward and then lost the ability to steer my car. I was able to get my car off the street and upon inspection found my left front tie rod had snapped in half.

Driving down the highway at a speed of 65mph and my car just began to idle and slowed down to reducing speed quickly. I could not give it enough acceleration to pick up speed. I pulled over to shut my engine car off. Turned car back on and my rpms to shift to 2nd gear were low. I had to shift my gears quickly to be able to drive. Since then, my engine light is blinking and I cannot go faster than 50mph.

The vehicles steering wheel makes a clunking sound and there is a lot of play in it. It makes noise from left to right and vibrates at higher speeds. I have to drive with both hands gripping the wheel to hold it steady. I drive on the freeway at least once a week to visit my son and grandkids and now to nervous to drive it as it’s an hour drive. I am a senior and cannot afford to pay out of pocket. I’ve had my 2012 kia Soul since 2013. I bought it used with 22,000 miles on it. I now have reached the 100,000 mile mark. I paid $20,000 for this vehicle over time and now I need kia to step up and pay for this defect. Since it’s happening in almost all their cars it must be their fault. I don’t understand why they are not fixing the 2012’s but all other years are covered. That is a mistake that will kill someone soon and then they will have a lot more problems than they are facing now. They recently offered me a steering wheel lock so that my car can’t be stolen, that’s funny cause I don’t think that it would be worth stealing cause the steering is already compromised. Please get them to step up and take care of all their customers as it’s their fault. The part is a little rubber star thing that costs $8. 00 but labor is 400 dollars and up. Thank you for listening.
The contact owns a 2015 kia Soul. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle the braking system erroneously activated, causing the brakes to engage without the brake pedal being depressed. Additionally, while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would drift to the right. The contact stated that there was also an abnormal odor of fuel was present inside the cabin of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failures and referred the contact to the local dealer. The local dealer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 32,000.

The contact owns a 2015 kia Soul. The contact stated while driving approximately 10 mph and making a right turn, the front passenger’s side wheel suddenly malfunctioned rendering the vehicle undrivable. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the front passenger’s side lower control arm had fractured due to faulty ball joint. The control arm was replaced but the vehicle started to experience vibration and shaking. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failure. The contact also indicated that the vehicle had experienced engine oil consumption issues. The cause of the failure was not determined. The failure mileage was 150,000.
My struts we’re going through my dash board and I had it repaired and my engine light is just constantly on.

My vehicle at three months had transmission failure like many 2021 kia Souls after the repair I began to experience, Mini electrical issues and steering issues which are very common for this model year. Most recently I have taken it in for electrical issues. My rear brake lights are not working the fuses burn and the wiring has burned. In addition, there is a bulletin that kia put out to their dealers asking to repair suspension and steering problems on hundreds of thousands of vehicles but this is not a recall yet my vehicle experience the same symptoms and my vehicle was not repaired siding I was too close to the end of my warranty please see the last page the kia bulletin regarding popping in the steering the dealer installed parts at purchase of the vehicle in 2021 and please see the brake light repairs Kia Motors forced me to sign a disclaimer when the when the transmission went out siding, I would never complain about the vehicle. After submitting a case to the department of justice in California, kia instantly reopened my case. The wiring repairs were recorded on my invoices as #warranty repairs, but when I call Kia Motors themselves, they do not show any warranty repairs performed on my vehicle. I don’t understand why they are hiding this information. Again, please see the kia bulletin in my attachments they did not repair my vehicle based on the bulletin.
Failure to accelerate, jurking, stalling while driving on highway. Was told there a rack and pinion tie rod system needs to be replaced and steering pin. Car does deceleration, oil burns up in a week.
I started complaining to the dealer that the front right side wheel doesn't seem right it seems to be spinning at a different speed as the other tires which wore the tires down and the the brakes to wear. The front end shakes back and forth while driving. They tightened the bolts that secure the body to the frame. But it only feels somewhat fine for a couple of weeks. I took it to 3different kia dealers and all have said there's nothing wrong and there is no safety issue, but it sure doesn't feel it. It seems like they just want to get it past the warranty. They installed new software for the engine knock to monitor it but it seems worse since they installed it. My car feels like it's falling apart. I even called kia headquarters and they said they go by what the technicians say, if they say there isn't anything wrong then there must not be. I have all my records.

The crash at about 2:30am early Tuesday morning on Nov. 24, 2020, on her way home from her nearby 2nd shift job, my wife's 2016 kia sol was hit hard on the driver's side by a car being pursued by police. Luckily, and possibly because my wife is short and sits high, she appears uninjured although visibly shaken and very nervous about night driving. My wife had pulled her car over to the right side of the 4+ lane road when she heard sirens. While pulled over with the car running and her foot on the brake, the perpetrator's vehicle crashed into the driver's side and pushed her car several feet further to the right, crumpling the doors and breaking off the left rear wheel and suspension from the impact. The police report showed that the perpetrator's vehicle approached her car from the front left, but the vehicle hit the very short kia squarely and only in the two driver's side doors with no damage to the front or rear fenders. Clearly not sideswiped where the entire side would have been damaged. Allstate insurance totaled the car and photos from the accident scene and towing yard are attached, as is the police report. No airbags deployed! none of the kia's airbags deployed. We bought the car new in late 2015 and it has been completely serviced since then at the original kia dealer. They recently updated the car's computer under a kia recall. On Dec. 4, 2020, I contacted the kia consumer assistance center (kaylee c at 949-468-4689) and asked why the airbags failed. After looking at photos I sent her and from the copart lot, she quickly said the car was "sideswiped and not hit hard enough to deploy the airbags". Her response was protecting kia line as any review of the photos shows that he car was hit from the side very hard and not sideswiped. I ask that NHTSA investigate this incident as it's unlikely that only my vehicle has this potentially fatal flaw.
Vehicle keeps pulling. Vehicle pulled to the right. Performed a steering angle relearned, and wheel alignment. Cross rotated tires and now the vehicle pulls to the left. Told nothing else can be done at this time. Car is constantly. Fighting itself with steering assist.
It's running different makes strange noise and has engine light on.
When parked (but with the power set to "run" or the engine fully on), if you turn the steering wheel in either direction, typically to its fullest extent, there is a loud "clunk" or "clank" noise coming from the base of the steering column. After taking the car to the dealership, they only told me the steering was "broke" and they had to replace the entire steering system under warranty. The issue started around 2300 miles. I have taken several videos since the issue began. The car has to be stationary or in motion (forward or reverse) but under 5mph (roughly). After watching a few youtube videos and doing some further investigation, it appears as though part of the problem is a defective/damaged "coupling gear" between the power/electric assist steering motore and the steering column itself. Regardless, it is a severe steering issue that has lead to a previous recall in older kias and several accidents.

Kia Soul 2013 just bought through dealer March 13 2020, and it makes a clunking noise in the front end whenever it's driven and I have kids in this car so if this is an issue with kias something needs to be done ! makes noise when driving at any speed, turning and very loud.

I took my 2015 kia Soul to miami lakes kia twice in December 2019, to check a clicking noise when turning both left and right, more consistently when turning right. I'm not sure but I have an inkling that this noise may be related to a problem with the steering column, cv joints or the axle. When I picked up my car the 1st time, as I made a right turn, I heard the same clicking noise. I called service and let them know that I still heard the noise. I returned my car a week later and took a test ride with two technicians, one technician informed me that the the noise needed to be louder for them to repair it. His claim seems unreasonable, especially since everyone who rides in my car hears the clicking noise, and there is obviously a mechanical issue with the car's steering or something related. I had my car checked at tires plus, the clicking noise was duplicated on the test drive and the mechanic informed me that this is a recall issue and to take my car to the dealer. Also, on February 21, 2020, the car battery that I purchased on July 31, 2018, died. This battery did not last 18 months (36 month warranty).
Tl- the contact owns a 2013 kia Soul. The contact stated that while turning in either direction a clanking type noise was present coming from the front of the vehicle. Also on several occasions the vehicle would not start and the battery power had drained. After taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic the contact was informed that the batter was not faulty. The cause of the failures were not determined. The local dealer hollywood kia(6011 pembroke rd. Hollywood FL) was notified of the failures. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 43,000. Jft.
Driver's seat collapsed in the center. The car likes to fishtail on bumpy roads causing some loss of control. The car vibrates at 60 plus mph.
Rack and pinion sound.

When I bought my car in 2018, I didn’t like the way it drives. I had to take it back the next day to return it, but the dealer in north aurora gerald kia said they wouldn’t take it back & I paid cash. I’ve been taking it back and forth from gerald north aurora to bob rohrman in schaumburg IL. They have been been telling me every time, there’s nothing wrong. I’m hearing several noises in the suspenion. So finally I told bob rohrman dealer to check everything before my warranty runs out. So far nothing didn’t happen until after my warranty. So I paid for 4 tires, front brakes, rotors. They finally said that I needed an arm control & a strut, with low mileage, but im steady hearing noises. I know know what to do. After I paid cash & had start going to find out what’s wrong with my car, the service dept was never friendly or professional. I always was told there’s nothing wrong with my car and that I know better. I’ve been driving since 17 yrs old and I’m 68.
Tl- the contact owns a 2016 kia sol. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph while making a right turn the vehicle turned to the left and crashed into a curb causing damage to the tire. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer superior kia located at 260 w. Mitchell Ave cincinnati, OH. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. No further information was available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 31,000. Jft.
Steering wheel play is increasing and clicks on each side of the play. Suspension feels as if the car drift/slides whenever driving over divider lane lines or direction arrows placed on the street.
Last year I found out that when I engaged reverse right or left a grinding noise was coming from the steering column area. Also when I was driving over a speed bump or in a dip a squeeking sound was coming from the back of the car. I took the car to the [kia of orange,210 katella Ave. ,orange,CA. 92867, (714)453-3800], twice 5/6/2017 & 14/9/2017, but they couldn't or didn't know how to fix the problems. On 1/26/2018 I called kia corporate office in irvine (800)333-4542 and explained to "lorre" the problems that my car has and that I took it to kia of orange which they couldn't fix in addition to their bad customer service that I had anytime I took the car for service. Her response over the phone and with her emails was pathetic,in denial and supportive for the kia of orange. I will never buy a kia/junk again.
Front drive axle nut was loose and causing the left front wheel to shake violently. No work was ever done on the vehicle in that area so the nut loosened on its own, nearly causing the entire wheel assembly to come off the vehicle. Torque was checked on the nut after discovery and was found to be way less that the factory spec. Of ~170 to 198ft. Lbs. Nut has no "locking" mechanism to prevent back out!.

My car was going approximately 50mph when it rear ended a stopped vehicle in the middle of a busy highway. Then my car was rear ended seconds afterwards. My car was scrunched (totaled), both front and back, and the airbags never deployed. Had the airbags deployed, the injuries to the driver would've been much less severe. I have huge concerns and doubts about the safety of this model. I don't think the airbags in this model propertly function.
First occurred at 134 miles on my 2015 kia Soul. . . Bouncy vibrating shaky ride could be felt under my feet like something bumping the bottom of the car and in the steering wheel like someone was tapping on it continuously. Passengers front and rear can feel the vibrating shake. Has been returned to dealer five times with this problem and has not yet been repaired. It is so bad it's uncomfortable to ride in and drive. Two service techs have told me they feel it but don't know what it is. Local dealer refused service after the fourth time saying they would not try to "fix" it again so kia corporation sent to another dealership. The second dealership feels it but they don't know what it is either. A field tech is being sent with a new machine to determine the problem. New tires and wheels have been put on the vehicle. . . They made a difference but it still has the vibrating shaky feeling. Twice, when gas pedal is pressed, the car would not move. . . Service techs don't know why. The car shudders many times when sitting at a red light or stop sign or parking lot. . . It will be running smoothly, then suddenly begin the shudder and shake. After a few minutes, it runs smoothly again. And no, it is not the ac compressor kicking in. . . The vibrating shaky ride occurs on all types of pavement and road surfaces. When turning the steering wheel to go around a curve, the wheel shakes as if the axles are bad. It has been doing this since purchased June 24, 2015, new, and now has 4,000 miles on it and is still doing its vibrating shaky thing. Anybody else have these problems? this is the third 2015 kia Soul we have owned! the other two are great! no problems. . . Totally different from this one.
Vehicle was traveling north at approximately 50 mph. Driver veered right accidently and went off asphalt surface into ditch. Vehicle rolled end over end twice and landed upright facing south on third rollover. Driver was wearing seat belts. Vehicle was damaged on both sides of front, top was crushed in, right front wheel bent into wheel well, windshield was shattered and caved in. There was damage to both sides of the vehicle and the hood. Driver was injured and transported by ambulance to hospital. The major complaint was that the air bags did not deploy to protect driver. Vehicle engineers from Kia Motors national consumer affairs inspected the vehicle and stated that air bags were not deployed in a rollover because car was not equipped that way. He reported that the air bags in front would have deployed in a front impact, the side curtain air bags would have deployed in a side impact. The car was considered a total loss and not repairable.
Tl- the contact owns a 2011 kia Soul. The contact stated that the vehicle while driving at various speeds a loud clucking noise was heard coming from the rear driver side. The contact indicated that the failure occurs while driving over bumps in the road. The caused of the noise was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 85,000. Jft.
Vehicle has sound coming from rear. . Read more...
The right rear passenger tire makes a clunking noise everytime I hit a bump or turn the vehicle. Feels like the axle is going to fall off. I saw that others are having or have had the same problem. Wanted to post the complaint, hoping that since it is a common issue, kia is forced to have it fixed or reimburse us. It's obviously a problem with the make of the car.
After a rough winter in PA. Started hearing a loud thunking noise in rear of car. Never could figure out what was going on. This year 2015 when going for a inspection, my mechanic told me the rear trailing arm bushing was completely worn away. He was very suprised for the mileage on the car for this to occur. Was more suprised there wasnt a recall for this item. Was very costly to repair.
