36 Suspension problem of the 2010 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 01/15/2014

I recently came out to get into my husbands kia to find a flat tire. While this is not an unusual event it was expensive. I purchased four new tires, and had them mounted. The mechanic mentioned the unusual wear pattern on the back tires which I had noticed as well. The tires were wearing in the center and to the inside edge of the tires. He suggested that I take the Soul to the dealership since they would be able to align the vehicle according to the manufacturers specs. I made an appointment for the following morning at the kia dealership to do so. I heard the mechanic say to the dept. Manager that the car had already been aligned. After a short wait period the service department representative came back to me and said that the rear axle had shifted to the side by approx. 1/2". I asked when he had seen this on a vehicle, and he said after an accident. I stated that it had never been in an accident, and my husband purchased it new. The estimate for the repair for parts, labor, and a new alignment was $1090. 00. I am currently waiting for kia consumer affairs to return a call to me about the issue. I believe this to be a significant design flaw since the slightest amount of rain/moisture on the road causes the vehicle to handle very poorly at reduced speeds of 45 mph. This defect has now cost 852. 00 for new tires, and they will wear out in the same odd wear pattern if I don't replace the rear axle, and re-align the tires that I just purchased.

37 Suspension problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 09/01/2013

Vehicle skitters and fishtails when going over 40 mph on bumpy roads, especially curves. The esc seems to correct the skittering immediately, but it is quite scary. So far, this has happened only on dry pavement. I don't know what would happen on wet or icy pavement.

38 Suspension problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 10/22/2012

I was driving to work, making a left turn into the parking lot when the front passenger tire blew. The steering wheel pulled sharply to the right and I was pulled into a curb. This caused over $1600 worth of damage to the car. There was a huge hole in the side wall of the tire and no evidence of any metal or anything in the tire. Also, the tire pressure indicator light has never come on, so I know they were at the proper psi. I contacted the dealer when the accident happened, and was told they have no responsibility for the tires. They actually looked at the car and all they said was "this is just bad driving. " I then called the kia company and talked to three different people. Their conclusion was they are not responsible for the tires. One person even asked how much I weighed! this vehicle is a 2011 and only has 8,200 miles on it. I had to go through my insurance to get it fixed. I believe that kia should stand by these tires, because nexxen come standard on their vehicles. Since this has happened, I have researched online and have found people have had similar problems with the tires on kia vehicles.

Failure Date: 08/24/2012

Driving south on i65 between gardendale, al and birmingham, al. At approximately 60 mph - clear day, sunny appx 80 degrees at 11:00 am cst. Concrete roadway with expansion joints. Experienced violent gyrations - car literally bouncing off roadway. Slowed to 50 mph and moved vehicle to far left lane - roadway was smoother and car returned to a stable condition. The original lane was rougher. But the car became very unstable to the point of fearing that I would lose control. I was able to resume normal freeway speeds without further incidents. No apparent damage but I will have the suspension checked by the dealer.
