I purchased my 2007 Spectra5 used with 155,000 miles on it. The engine had no codes or any stored codes. It ran fine until I filled it up with gas. I do not overfill the tank because I understand evap issues. After filling up the vehicle would stall at idle and occasionally lose power (momentarily) at highway speeds (55 mph and up). Obviously this is an extremely dangerous situation! once the gas level got below 1/2 tank the issues went away…but now I only fill the tank to halfway and the problems arise again every so often. Since there are no codes present I cannot replicate the issue without possibly damaging components further and I already replaced the battery, plugs, iac valve, maf sensor, and oil to try to remedy this problem. From reading other’s comments about this same problem I do not want to keep pouring money into a problem that kia itself seems unable, and unwilling, to fix. This is extremely frustrating and dangerous as occasionally the vehicle loses all power on the highway at speeds exceeding 55mph and I feel an accident is inevitable. I’m not financially well off enough to just eat the cost of this vehicle and get a new (used) vehicle though so kia has really put me (and other drivers) in a difficult and dangerous position. As others have stated from mechanics who have tried to diagnose this issue, there may be a serious issue with the evap system including, but not limited to, the charcoal canister and purge valve. I will try replacing the fuel filter in the gas tank but I do not have high hopes that this will fix this problem. Once again, there are no codes present before or after these stalling/power loss problems and live data from and obd2 scanner is within parameters for this vehicle and it’s age. I need to report this now so everyone, especially kia, is aware of this issue and information.

My car seems like someone entered something in my gas tank while I may been in the store.

After a minor accident where the car went in the ditch off the road the car caught fire and became rapidly engulfed in flames. What should have been a minor accident turned into a near fatality because of an aggressive fire. The driver had a medical emergency when pulling out of the driveway. The car crossed the road and entered the ditch directly across the driveway entrance. This should have been a walk away accident with minor or no damage to the car, but it burst into flames. The driver was able to get out of the car before burning to death and thankfully there were no other passengers. We had the car only a few weeks and do not have any knowledge of recalls being repaired.

The transmission keeps stalling and jolting the car, we cannot run the air conditioner and it only runs when in 3rd gear. There is definitely something wrong with the car and we don't even feel safe putting our children in the car, because it's not safe, and we cannot run the air conditioner without it stalling or jolting and not accelerating properly. We had the timing belt replaced in September 2018, we've had multiple oil changes and kept up with maintenance. However the problems have only gotten worse, our check engine light has been on since 02/2019 at least and we've put steering fluid in, but the problems keep getting worse. We can't run the air conditioner, our fuses keep blowing and I would like our car checked out and fixed.
My 2009 kia Spectra had approximately 23,000 miles on it when I purchased it from a kia dealer in October 2017. Two days after purchasing my kia, I returned to the same dealership and reported that I noticed the car was idling to high after using the air conditioner or after driving on the freeway. The dealership did nothing and did not assume any responsibility for any repairs. Fast forward to today, the problem became worse and my vehicle began to launch forward after I stopped at a stop sign or traffic light. When removing my foot off the gas pedal, the car increases in speed instead of decreasing while in motion. I was told by my mechanic that the issue was the idle air control valve which cost $105. 00 for diagnostic testing and $256. 30 for parts and labor.
My car is leaking gas on the passenger side underneath the car I also have gas fumes in my car too, I am losing a lot of gas in my car. I have strangers pointing out that my car is leaking gas and the smell of gas when I park my car in a public parking lot when I do shopping, I fear that my car will go up in flames and I have my children ride in the car and complain about the fumes of gas I see that there was the same recalls on 2004 kia Spectra. Mine is is a 2003 which I having the exact problems with a gas leak . I need this to be on a recall list to get repair ASAP , for the safety of me and my kids.

The contact owns a 2006 kia Spectra. While driving approximately 35 mph over a pothole, the vehicle stalled and would not restart. The contact called a family member who recommended the fuel shut off valve and the vehicle started again. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
This car is trying to kill me. I turn on my car, feet aren't on the pedals, my rpms rev and sputter up to 4,000+ without me doing anything. Sometimes it will launch me a bit when I'm trying to back out of a parking spot. Sometimes I'll be at a stop sign or a red light, completely stopped, foot on the brake, hard. Cross-traffic flowing. Suddenly my engine revvs and my car lunges forward. Wtf kia? I've taken it to kia once and they told me its a transmission problem that's going to cost more than the car is even worth and more money than I have to spend. So now what? I'm going to pay for a life endangering mechanical problem that likely costs dollars and minutes to fix because the mechanic thinks its a transmission problem? hopefully something is resolved before this car wrecks itself.
In January 2016 this car went into a sudden involuntary acceleration. First time in extremely cold and icy weather. Took two feet on brake and it still moved into the intersection before engine slowed down. Second and third times, in parking lots in warmer conditions, it did the same sudden acceleration with foot on brake. Putting it in neutral caused extremely loud roar before it suddenly stopped. These all occurred when going from gas pedal to the brake. These were terrifying. And kia dealership mechanics say they can find nothing wrong with the car. Said it might have been extra heavy boots on my feet or maybe the floor mat wedged under pedal. This is kia lack-of-responsibility bullshit!.

From the 2nd day after purchasing the vehicle 6/27/2015 when I turned on a/c the car has been hesitating and stalling. Every time I started and stopped at lights or stop signs. And even in traffic . Making the driving experience unsafe. And so ive been complaining ever since. They said if check engine light came on then I wont be responsible for the expense. However the check eng. Never came on.
I was approaching germantown avenue from mt. Airy avenue with the expectation of making a right hand turn on to germantown avenue when the car accelerated without warning. I gripped the wheel and tried to recover control of the car and was successful within inches of a vehicle turning onto mt. Airy avenue. The accelerator took control of my car (and me). I recovered control of my car. Later in the day while driving the same event happened with the exception of the fact that I was not in a "turn mode".
The contact owns a 2007 kia Spectra. While driving at 60 mph, the vehicle stalled and fuel was leaking from the vehicle. The vehicle restarted and resumed normal operation. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the fuel system needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 49,600.
The contact owns a 2005 kia Spectra. While driving at various speeds, an abnormal noise emitted from the rear driver side of the vehicle without warning. The failure recurred continuously. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 11v256000 (fuel system, other). The failure mileage was 149,909.
The past several years my kia has stalled multiple times upon refueling. I have stopped topping off while refueling. The car cuts off while driving or whiling idling. It gives off an awful gas smell. It has shut off on highways and in city while driving. I have researched this issue and find many kia owners with the same problem. I am constantly given different diagnostics from kia authorized service centers. Replacements for the fuel system assemble have totaled in the thousands.
Over the past two years, my kia has stalled multiple times upon refueling. I never topped off while fueling and do not understand what's going on. The car cuts off while driving or sitting at a stop light. It also gives off an awful gas smell. I am terrified of driving the vehicle because it's very dangerous especially on highways where the speed limit is at least 50mph. I am concerned as I have very small children that could be harmed. I have researched this issue to the best of my ability & find many kia owners with the same problem. I am constantly given different diagnostics from service centers.
Engine 💡 came on imidiately after pulling out of dealership. So I CA"ed them and they stated it wasnt anything to worry about. Several customers were calling in about the same issue. They said it was just the change in weather and the gas cap. They reset engine 💡 several times. No sooner than I would pull off the lot, it would come back on. Then I ask them for an auto check history report showing odometer desciipancies. Roll back calculations. The radiator is cracked, the emergency brake doesn't work, and the brakes and stuff are bad.
As I was driving my 2007 kia Spectra out of nowhere all my emergancy lights came on and my car locked up and turned off while I was exiting the freeway. The steering wheel locked up and I could not turn it to get my car off the road. I then had to put my car in park turn the egnichin off then restart it. This has happened more than 3 different times. Also as I am driving, my car starts to slow down like it starves for gas and I have to step on the gas and push the pedal down all the way before it will eventually pick up and go.
Went to turn on my heater today and the smell of gasoline filled my car, 4-door sedan. The car had the same problems as many of the other owners mentioned before e. G. A brake fluid leak, squealing brakes and the transmission is always slow to kick in when pulling off from a stop. Never experienced a gas leak problem with any other car I owned.
My vehicle began experiencing intermittent issues with the air bag "off" illuminating with a passenger sitting in the front seat. This has happened on a half dozen occasions that I have noticed and goes off when the passenger adjusts their sitting position. The vehicle surges intermittently when stopped. Additionally brake pedal has stuck on a few occassions when the engine is cool. The vehicle will also cut out on occassion when driving down the road. I put it in neutral to restart, and continue driving. These all happen intermittently with no apparent rhyme or reason to them.

Car smells horribly like gas fumes when turned on, more so in the colder temperatures. So many complaints online, I'm surprised kia hasn't issued a recall. Breathing gas fumes for long periods of time can possibly cause cancer or other problems. . . Would be horrible if kia had a lawsuit on their hands for faulty equipment causing health problems in their car owners. . .

This car acts like its running out of gas about every 4 months since I've owned it, its usually after I fill it up, it stalls at lights and sputters going down the road, have actually had it die going around corners. Mention it every time I go to dealership for maintenance and of course there is no code because the check engine light never comes on when it happens. This is a very unsafe car and if I could buy something else I would. Will never buy a kia again!.
