The contact owns a 2006 kia Spectra. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 11v256000 (fuel system, other). The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the brake pedal was depressed and went to the floorboard. The check engine and brake warning lights were illuminated. The dealer was made aware of the recall and failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 116,000.

I purchased the vehicle in 2011. Since then once in awhile when I stop my car at a light or a stop sign, the car moves forward even after I step on the brake. I then have to quickly put the brake on and turn the car off or else I'm a hit someone was in front of me. I have taken it to the dealer and I'm told that I have to bring it there when it's happening. This is happened a few times since 2011. It always happened when I would step on the brake at a stop light or a stop sign when my car should be motionless however it would keep going even though I stepped on the brake. I have not kept track of when this has happened. Below I had to put a date that it happened. I do not know the dates that this is happened since I purchased the car it is probably happened at least 10 times since I purchased the car in 2011. I did not keep track of the dates.

Tamara recall; there was an accident about ten cars in front of me. I seen everyone start hitting there brakes so I started applying mine. Then I realized everyone had come to a stop so I applied on my brakes even harder and they locked up and I slid about 15 ft. And hit a truck in the rear end still going about 35 mph. It shoved the front end of my car back quite a bit but yet my airbags never deployed.

I noticed brake fluid underneath my car one day and checked my level to find that there was basically no brake fluid in the reservoir. Turns out it's the brake proportioning valve. After looking online it seems like this is a trend and has caused accidents previously. The mechanic was surprised that this was indeed the problem after calling and then getting the car repaired. The leak came on suddenly and was fairly sever requiring that I add brake fluid after every short drive. If I hadn't noticed this problem I likely would have ended up rear-ending someone or worse. It also seems to be prevalent amongst the 2000-2005 models.

Intermittingly, after starting the vehicle, engine begins revving. Intermittingly, while slowing & stopping at a traffic light, engine begins revving and attempts to lurch forward. I have to press the break very hard to keep vehicle from moving forward. Fred anderson kia, raleigh, nc investigated this problem on 7/10/15 but was unable to recreate the problem. They re-cleaned the throttle body. The issue has continued on and off since then. On 8/20/15, after approximately 45 minutes of highway driving, I pulled into the parking lot at work. I put the car into reverse to back into a parking spot & the engine started revving dramatically & the car jerked noticeably as it went into gear. I backed into the spot & put the car in park, again jerking. I let the car idle for a few minutes & moved it in & out of gear. The revving worsened, the car attempted to lurch forward even with both the break & emergency break & continued jerking with every gear change. I have an appt. On 8/21/15 with fred anderson kia to investigate. My concern is the safety of the vehicle, as I have seen an indication of the same problem with other kia vehicles on this site & other sites. It seems as if kia is not resolving the issue and I don't want to have an accident because of it.

This has happened on more than one occasion. While traveling on the interstate at 70 mph the vehicle begin increasing in speed. Brakes were tapped, no decrease in speed, brakes were applied, no decrease in speed, pushed to DE-activate cruise, no result; I had to push the gear shift in neutral, motor was racing, turn off key, turn back on momentarily all while driving in traffic. The cruise then quit working for several weeks, began working again; traveling 60 mph and was unable to make a turn because cruise would not disengage. Very dangerous!!! at this point I do not use the cruise nor will use it until I can have it seen.

Engine 💡 came on imidiately after pulling out of dealership. So I CA"ed them and they stated it wasnt anything to worry about. Several customers were calling in about the same issue. They said it was just the change in weather and the gas cap. They reset engine 💡 several times. No sooner than I would pull off the lot, it would come back on. Then I ask them for an auto check history report showing odometer desciipancies. Roll back calculations. The radiator is cracked, the emergency brake doesn't work, and the brakes and stuff are bad.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the front driver side window needed a new motor. The vehicle was repaired. The technician confirmed that the front passenger side needed to be lubricated. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. In addition, the contact stated that after the vehicle was inspected, the technician stated that the lower control arm needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact also stated that when the brake pedal was depressed and there was an abnormal noise coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the rear brake drums needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 72,896.

My car was parked, in my driveway, and had ran fine the day before. I went out and started the car but could not get the car out of park and into reverse. I was unable to even roll the car a little by pushing it, which indicates the car was stuck in park with force. I had my neighbor come over and he managed to, with a ton of pressure, put the car in reverse. Seems to not be as hard on a flat surface but my driveway has a slant to it. Put car back in driveway and tried to leave a couple hours later and same issue. I had to purchase aaa and have somebody come out to pull out of park. Looked on line and there's a ton of recalls big mine the 2007 kia Spectra. Which is the only year not being recalled. I was told, by kia dealership it was safe to drive but pet my research, no it's not. They want to change for repair yet every other kia make is recalled.

The contact owns a 2008 kia Spectra. The contact stated the vehicle failed to stop after the brake pedal was applied and instead the vehicle suddendly accelerated crashing into a building. The air bags failed to deploy and the air bag light illuminated on the instrument panel. A police report was not filed. The driver sustained a neck injury. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer nor was it diagnosed. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage 95,000.

As I was about to stop down a steep hill my brakes gave away and jesus took the wheel is all I can say. Brake came on no brake fluid . I get my oil changed every 3,000 miles it just leaks out as soon as I replace it. Mechanic for 40 years said never seen this happen on a car. The connector were the valves or connecting is leaking all the brake fluid out .

The brake fluid proportioning valve is leaking for no reason. Not a serviceable part. Must be replaced. Not a wear and tear part either. Very common issue with 2002 and 2003 research stated. Thanks.

I was driving on hwy 40 e approaching exit 153 in heavy rainfall. Approximately 0. 25 miles from the exit the truck already on the exit ahead of me began applying its brakes. Pre-braking measures were taken. The wheels locked up and I collided with the truck in front of me and flew forward into the steering wheel. I had been braking the entire time, but my seat-belt did not lock into place. My airbag did not deploy. I suffered bruising, severe headaches, and minor cuts as a result. Insurance declared car as total loss.

Trans all of a sudden started slipping with no prior issues. Was reading a tcm code then codes for each gear replaced trans new trans drove 30 miles and is doing the exsact same thing have to drive like a stick 1st 2nd and then can put in drive around 35mph. Also breaks come and go as they please.

Car just caught on fire while driving. No caution lights came on. Fire started around the back tire of car, passenger rear. Possibly trunk. Have photos. Smoke quickly entered back seat area with only moments to stop and jump out before it went up in smoke.

I reported multiple complaints on fuel tank over filling, tank was replaced but problem still exists. Lost of power when driving and excilaration when trying to stop. Also have problems with engine,engine was replaced but problem still exists.

2003 kia Spectra 99,000 miles. I am having to fill up with brake fluid once or twice a day. Brake proportion valve is leaking. Several sites and complaints about this. Why no recall when this is not a part that should ordinarily need to be replaced?.

2nd request. I have a 2002 kia Spectra, LS. What I attributed to an engine surge since owning the car has turned out to be more serious and frightening. The gas and brakes pedals are too close, this was noticed by a mechanic and my daughter. When depressing either pedal, both are depressed at the same time. Depending on which one gets more pressure, that's the one that takes over. When parking in a handicap spot last week I was fortunate to be aiming at the space between the cars facing me. I managed to remove my foot in time to depress the brake before I went all the way through to the next lane behind the cars. This has happened many times. So far I've been fortunate enough to remove my foot and step on the brake before I was hit by another car, or I ran into them. The brake pedal is also crooked but that has nothing to do with their positions. I am a small person so I can't imagine how a person with larger feet can deal with this. Even my hiking shoes make the problem worse because they are wider. As a 73 yr. Old woman, I am still an able driver and not imagining this. 2003 kia Spectra; brake proportioning valve started leaking around 90k miles. Contacted three local dealers, all three stated that this is common for this model.

2009 kia Spectra. While driving 20 mph, on snow covered street, applied brake pedal, pedal was firm and car slowing, then the pedal went soft and dropped approximately 1-2 inches and then firmed up again. This caused the abs to be applied, car would not stop. I was almost involved in a accident as other lane of traffic did not have stop sign. This is approximately the 20th time that when stopping the brake pedal has gone from firm to soft, while soft brake pedal depresses 1-2 inches, and then firms. This causes a delay in the car slowing and sometimes the abs is activated. I took car to dealership on 3/5/2010, dealer drove car 5 miles and could not recreate the problem.

I have a 2003 kia Spectra that has been running out of brake fluid on a weekly basis. Had to buy new proportioning valve from the dealer. I've read several stories about these valves leaking. Why has there not been a recall.

Excessive brake fade when there are three adults in vehicle. Either when the road is wet or dry, warm or cold.

On Friday November 28, 2008 at 4:45pm, I was driving on state highway 58 by jenkins and rosedale highway in bakersfield, CA. I was going approximately 50 mph and was approximately 50 yards from the vehicle in front of me. I had to slam on my brakes due to the car in front of my braking automatically, my brakes locked up and I was in a front end crash. Not only did my brakes lock up, but my duel sided air bags in my 2002 kia Spectra which I have only owned for four months did not deploy. Luckily no one was badly injured but due to this incident my muscles are badly sore and bruised. The whole front end of my vehicle is destroyed and most importantly my headlights which are required by law to have, are shattered.

Three years ago while traveling down I-40 the cruise control stuck on the car, the brakes locked up. The car had climb to 90 mph in a 65 before I realized what was happening. The only way to stop the car was to put the car in neutral and cut the engine. Thank the dear lord in heaven me and 2 other CO-workers were not in heaven traffic that day. I had the car towed to kia in winston salem, nc where the mechanics are the only ones that had ever worked on that car at that time. They tried to say that it was an animal or someone must have touched the cable causing it to slip out of the groove which would cause the cruise control to stick. They flipped it back on and it worked fine until Friday night, August 1, 2008 around 9:00 at night when me and my 10 yr old daughter was coming home from having dinner out. Again the cruise control stuck started accelerating with no way of stopping it and the brakes locked up. The car had climbed to 70 mph in a 55 before I finally put it in neutral and cut the engine. The car has scared me twice now. I am scared that it will happened it again and next time we want be lucky. I am afraid this car may end up hurting us or someone else really bad. I complained to kia 3yrs ago they didn't care when the car was still under warranty and I sure don't see them caring now. Do you?.

Loss of brakes when air condition is on.

The contact owns a 2006 kia Spectra. While driving approximately 15 mph, the contact noticed that the rpm's would increase rapidly when attempting to decelerate. She had to continually apply pressure to the brakes in order for the vehicle to completely stop. Occasionally, while the vehicle was idling, it would drift while the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer and they replaced the ecu. The powertrain was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 14,000.

Infrequently, when I hit the brake, the rpm's will go up to the 7 or 8,000 range, and I cannot successfully stop the car; I have had to immediately put the car in park in order for it to stop. One time I went throught the intersection of a stop sign, fortunately, there were no other cars present.

While driving and upon pressing the brake pedal down, the vehicle surged forward. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer eight times. Also, there was vibration in the steering which made a banging noise.
