The car randomly starts. When the car is finally started sometimes the power steering goes out, the windows randomly roll down, the locks randomly lock and unlock themselves. I have taken the car to several mechanic shops including electrical specialist and the dealership. None of them are able to determine what the problem is.

Steering is locked and cannot be rotated in the morning when started. It happened twice from last days while I'm removing car out of garage in reverse mode. I applied brakes and restarted the car and checked the steering again then it worked well. I hope this problem won't come when I was on freeway. Odo meter is around 140000.

The contact owns a 2008 kia Spectra. While driving approximately 40 mph, the steering wheel locked and the vehicle stalled. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was able to be restarted, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was driven to the dealer, but the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 122,171.
I was backing out of my parking spot and my steering wheel locked up.
I was driving my car, March 2013 and the car died while pulling into the driveway. I was at a red light in may 2014 and the car died at the stop light. For those two incidents the kia dealership indicated an issue with the charcoal canister. Now, I have a third incident that occurred April 25, 2015, I was driving approximately 40 miles per hour and the wheels locked up and the car died while driving on a main street. My vehicle has been at the dealership for 3 business days and they are not able to determine why the car is stopping. This is a safety issue for me. These incidents could have happened on the freeway and could have caused a fatality. The kia dealership has been diligently trying to diagnose the issue however; they have been unable to determine the root cause. I am sharing this information just in case other drivers are experiencing this issue.
The contact owns a 2005 kia Spectra. While driving at 20 mph, the steering wheel started to pull to the left. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was diagnosed, but not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 49,900.
On my way to work I took the same route that I always take. I was going about 25mph and all of a sudden all of the lights came on ( check oil, battery, emergency break, tire pressure, airbag, and check engine) the steering wheel completely locked up causing my car to swerve right into a community mail box. My windshield is broken, the front passenger side is off and the two passenger side tires are both flat. When I got my car in March of this year three days after I got it it had started doing this I took it back and it was in the shop for more than 3 months. When they had told me this problem was fixed I trusted that they were right but unfortunately it led me to this. . . The dealership has not returned my phone call and my insurance does not cover for a rental car. I have 2 children and my job does not pay me enough to just pay and get a new car or pay and have this car fixed. I am very unhappy with the responses about this car. Why would these cars be sold to people.

I no longer have the car, so I cannot provide the VIN number at this time. (I can get it, with some work involved). I have pictures of the car after the crash. I live in rural iowa. Deer start their rut in October. I swerved to miss a deer, on a two lane road. Went down a 40 foot ditch, nose first. Because the bottom of the ditch was a gully, the front of the roof, the hood, the front lights, etc. Were all destroyed. Not one of their airbags deployed. They are not a part of the news round of airbags, but I want this on record. Again, I can supply pictures, and it will be obvious that at least one of the 8 airbags should have deployed. Please, look into the 2007 kia Spectra's air bags. Look to see if others have had the same problem. I would appreciate it very much. I am not looking for money, I bought the car for my daughter (when she was six, with the ten year warranty, I intended to pass it on to her, when she got her license. . . . . Boy am I glad I was involved in the crash, and not her, seeing is how that is the exact reason why I decided to buy the kia.
I drive a 2008 kia Spectra. I've owned the car for roughly 4 yrs. Within the last month my car continues to stall. This occurs generally when I'm coming to a stop and turning. The dash lights will all come on and my wheel locks up in the direction I was turning. When I turn my car off and turn it back on, the lights will turn off, but my rpm's rev up to a minimum of 3. I have taken the vehicle to two auto mechanics. They have changed a fuel temp. Sensor and switched out all my spark plugs. Both mechanics have plugged the vehicle up to the machine and it reads clear. They cannot find an issue with the vehicle. Since the vehicle acts up randomly, they are unable to identify the problem when it's in their possession.
After parking car, the key will not turn on ignition. Locks up.
While driving a windy mountain road our 2005 kia Spectra steering locked up as if the car was in park. A kia service department in victorville was unable to figure out what was wrong and they returned the car to us. A few months later the same event happened and the key would not come out of the ignition when the car was in park. The car was under factory warranty however, the service center claimed an adjustment was needed which was not under warranty and we paid $240 to have the adjustment made. Yesterday, the steering locked up again a windy mountain road nearly sending us over the edge of a cliff. Per the kia dealer, vehicles that were manufactured one month after our vehicle's production date had a recall for the same steering problems but that the recall does not apply to our vehicle only those manufactured 30 days after the manufacture date of this particular car.
The contact owns a 2006 kia Spectra. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle vibrated. The dealer stated on four to five occasions, that the vehicle was repaired; however, they failed to state what was repaired and did not provide an invoice. The dealer also stated that the vibration in the steering wheel caused the front driver and passenger tires to wear at 10,000 miles. The tires need to be replaced due to five thirty seconds of tread remaining on the tires. The normal mileage for replacement of the tires should not be before 40,000 miles. The owner's manual stated that the tires should be rotated at 7,500 miles. The dealer also stated that the tires were not the cause of the failure. The fuel type was unknown. The failure and current mileages were 4,550.

The contact owns a 2007 kia Spectra. While driving 20 mph, the vehicle veered to the right when attempting to make a left turn. The vehicle flipped over and was destroyed. The road conditions were clear. The vehicle has not been inspected. The current and failure mileages were 600. Updated 06/22/07.
Vehicle was driven 70 miles before passenger airbag system failed, 1400 miles before I determined the stalling problem was not operator error, and about 90 days before driving at highway speeds and finding a shake in the steering. The vehicle has been taken to the selling dealer 20 times with the airbag problem and steering shake un-repaired. Sc0055 on the airbag issue, reprogramming the sensor(s) and replacing the seat bottom has not eliminated the problem or failures. 7 new tires have been installed and balanced, to include road-force balancing 3 times without correcting the shake in the steering. Vehicle has been test driven hundreds of miles at the dealers request.
We bought a kia Spectra 5 on 06/18/2005, a 2005 model. On 06/19/05 the transmission went out (we were the first owners, less than 100 miles) our kia dealership replaced the car after two weeks of trying to repair the problem, on 07/27/05, my husband stopped at a stop sign and turned right, the car would not come out of the turn (husband said nothing on the car would work, steering froze and brakes failed) he then ran up on a curve car sustained over 2800. 00 dollars worth of damage to undercarriage, wheels, drive shaft etc. Husband suffered bruises and concussion ( I am an rn he did not see physician) reported to insurance CO, insurance appraiser also aware of circumstances and dealer notified, nothing was done. None of the airbags deployed.
While driving and upon pressing the brake pedal down, the vehicle surged forward. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer eight times. Also, there was vibration in the steering which made a banging noise.

After starting the vehicle, the gear would not move out of park. On another occasion while driving, the vehicle had gone into reverse by itself and the engine shut down completely. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for transmission repair. There was a severe vibration in the steering wheel upon getting the vehicle back from the dealer.
