1 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Spectra

Failure Date: 06/19/2015

A front tie rod broke, something in the steering column broke, and the air bag indicator lit up but no air bags deployed. The two front tires were not pointing in the same direction. I had it towed to a mechanic, and they said that the steering column issue likely caused a disconnect in a circuit, which can prevent all air bags from deploying.

She stated that the tires have been rotated every 3,000 miles for the last 46,000 miles on her vehicle. There was a recall on the 2005 kia Spectra, which was identical to the failure she was experiencing. The manufacturer stated that her VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 05v183000 (steering:linkages:tie rod assembly). The contact also stated that every 20,000 miles the tires need to be replaced; however, the tire life states that this should occur every 60,000 miles. The failure mileage was 24,000 and current mileage was 46,250.

5 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Spectra

Failure Date: 03/10/2007

On March 10, 2007, at approximately 4:45 pm, my wife and I witnessed a single car accident on red bluff between kirby and bay area blvd in pasadena texas. The vehicle was wildly out of control and eventually landed upside down in a ditch on the left had side of the road. The driver said the car went "crazy. " I examined the car and noticed the left tie rod end was sheared off where it enters the tie rod itself. The left strut was also ripped out of the body of the car. It is my opinion, the rod was sheared when the car hit a pot hole or the left curb. The driver lost control and was very lucky to escape with bumps and bruises. The vehicle was a kia. I did not ask the year or model, but I think it was a Spectra.
