Tank Assembly problem #1

: the contact stated while driving home, there was a strong smell and fumes which emanated from the inside to the outside of the vehicle. It was driven home and parked in the garage. Upon inspection, gas was observed leaking underneath the vehicle on the passenger side. The dealer was contacted, and advised that the vehicle should not be driven due to safety hazards. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who replaced the gas tank due to corrosion. There was no warning prior to the incident.

The contact owns a 2006 kia Sportage. The contact stated that when starting the ignition, there is fuel oder in the interior of the vehicle. The contact was relating the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 11v256000 (fuel system, other). The contact stated that her vehicle year, make, and model was not included in the recall, as well as that the recall was state-specific. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for inspection, who informed the contact of the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 65,000.
