Check Engine Light On problems of the 2013 Kia Motor Sportage

Tl the contact owns a 2013 kia Sportage. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle coasted to the side of the road and shifted into park. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that metal debris was found in the engine. The contact contacted oakes kia (2900 burlington st, north kansas city, mo 64116, (816) 474-2900) and was informed that there was a total engine loss due to metal debris found in the engine which created a hole in the piston. The dealer had not diagnosed nor repaired the vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 94,000.

The contact coasted the vehicle to the shoulder of the roadway, turned the vehicle off and restarted the vehicle however, the vehicle failed to resume normal operation. The vehicle was towed to kia of irvine (45 oldfield, irvine, CA 92618) where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine seized and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling) as a possible solution to the failure however, the VIN was not included. The manufacture was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 151,000.

No check engine or oil light displayed. Engine has 183,936 miles. Engine started rattling while pressing accelerator and continued to get worse.

After 118,000 miles on a well maintained vehicle the 2. 4 liter engine in my 2013 kia Sportage seized. I was traveling at approximately 25 mph on my way to my mechanic because my check engine light came on when my motor seized and I came to an abrupt stop.

Our Sportage has the 2. 4 engine. At 139,000 miles while driving on the interstate the engine started knocking. The car displayed no check engine warning lights, no check oil, no temperature change. We lost power on the interstate but made it and pulled off the next exit. We had it towed to a repair shop. They diagnosed a failed engine and found metal shaving in oil.

After having an upgrade to the system our car now goes into limp mode. They have changed several parts and $4,000. 00 later they still can not fix the problem. They just keep charging us for different parts and our car still goes into limp mode even though they have said they have fixed it. One day the car will run fine and the next we will be driving and cannot go over 40 miles per hour no matter how hard you are hitting the gas. Several hours later the check engine light will come on but according to kia it has nothing to do with limp mode and all of these parts have already been replaced.

While driving home going approx. 40 mph on the freeway, the engine out of no where, completely seized up. After pulling over in busy rush our traffic the car was locked up and stopped working. There was no check engine light prior, no heat issues and there has never been any mechanical issues involving my vehicle. I have provided all maintenance documents dating back all the way to 5 years. While there are several recalls involving 2013 kia Sportages, even with these exact symptoms, I have been told numerous times mine does not apply.

As I was driving on interstate 20, car began knocking. Pulled over to a gas station to check the oil (had enough oil) and add more, just to be on the safe side. Got back on the interstate and car began knocking louder then without warning car shut off completely. Towed it to a local kia dealership where they determined the bearings were bad and declined to help. Car has 110000 miles and gets routine oil changes. There was no prior warning; check engine light, oil light, etc.

While parked outside of a supermarket, the engine started rattling, check engine light came. On and car shut off. I towed the vehicle to a kia dealership and was told that the vehocle needed a new engome and that they could not find the engine for me. I called kia customer service and was adviced that my VIN is not part any recall. After a lot of online research I keep running into other people's statements who had ecactly the same situation I had, with the exactly the same engine on my car, 2013 kia Sportage with a 2. 4 l. Engine. Since the kia dealership did not want to continue trying to find an engine for me, I towed it to a local mechanic who found metal shavings in the bottom pan, a cracked crankshaft and the connecting rod bearings are noticeably shaved off and scraped. This is the same problem that have been noticed in the other kias with my same engine but that were on the recall. I do not understand how my VIN is not one of those.

We were driving on a parkway at approximately 55-65 mph when without warning the check engine light, oil lamp, and battery light came on. Simultaneously my husband (the driver) reported that the car would no longer accelerate. The garage it was towed to reported that they could get the car to start but there was a noise coming from the bearings and the engine would stall shortly after. This description matches a recent recall, but on Sportages only the 2. 0l turbo engine was included, and we have the 2. 4l engine. This engine was recalled on other models, however.

My check engine light came on while driving, then went off, then starting hearing noises in the engine. Took to the dealership and they said my oil was low. I told them I get regular oil changes so I was not sure why. They said as a result I have engine failure. Until this incident I have never with my car and problem escalated very quickly. I took my car cause I wanted to get a 2nd opinion but did not get very far bc the engine just stopped. My VIN is not on the recall list but all of the syptoms described are what I experienced. I want kia to take responsibility and fix. I take care of my vehicle and litteraly had no problems until this major problem.
