1 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2024

My wife was driving and went around a semi and all ofthe sudden the engine stalled and she almost got hit by thesemi she had just passed. Next day towed it to kia and the said the engine had seized up but thatthe enginewas not warrenty because it had not thrown a knock senseor code. We have mainained this vehicle and gotten the update for the knock sensor and were about to give it to our son and get ourselves another kia. Dont think thats going to happen now thati know kia does not stand behinde their product or care about their customers.

2 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2020

While driving on the free the engine had a small pull on it. I didn't think anything of it however just a few moments later, the engine stalled. On the middle of the free way. I was going to freeway speed limit(70) maybe 5/6 over. It was one of the most scariest moments ever, I had time to at least pull over on the side of the freeway but I couldn't believe the engine stopped while driving. Also yes I did get my regular tune ups as well as oil change every 3 months. This car was well taken care of. I love how the engines before this one were recalled but there's so any complaints on there current engine and they won't recall them.

3 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2020

I was driving in the city with my baby in the back seat when I stopped at a red light, when the light turned green I pressed the gas to hear a loud knocking under the hood of my car and my engine stalled in the middle of the intersection. I had the car towed to my local garage who said the engine threw a rod and needed to be replaced, I then towed it to the kia dealership and discussed with consumer affairs the issue. They agreed to replace my engine in good faith stating that this issue is being recalled in over 1 million vehicles of the same make but my 2013 kia Sportage does not fall under the recall solely due to the fuel injector that is used on my engine(I have an mfi instead of a gdi) and noted that it has happened in the same exact engine in many of the vehicles. After picking up my car and paying out of pocket for the tows and additional repairs relating to replacing my engine kia has refused to provide reimbursement and also refused to provide my engine with the lifetime warranty and knock detection sensor that the gdi models are receiving and replaced my short block with the same engine. This has now became a class action lawsuit and kia refuses to acknowledge that this is happening in the theta 2 mfi motors as well.

4 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2020

The car stopped working without warning in the middle of the road. No lights, smoke etc. . . It just shot off and did not start again. We were lucky it was a Sunday, traffic was light, and no other cars were immediately behind. I towed it to a mechanic and was told the engine stalled. The car has 79 k miles and has had oil changes as it should. I am being told by kia this is not part of the existing engine recall, that I am a second owner (I bought it with 23,000 miles in 2016 as a certified pre-owned), yet what happened to my car is the same as described by other kia owners whose cars were under recall.

5 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2019

The engine was running and my husband was in our daughter's driveway. He put the car in reverse so our son-in-law could leave for work and the engine stalled (later finding out it seized). Not knowing the problem, they tried to jump start the car with no luck. We called aaa at 10am and to make a long story short, after 4 aaa calls, the car was towed to shorkey kia dealership. We had to pay $119 for a diagnosis. Then were told the batter was bad ($172). After the batter was put I, we were told the starter was bad (didn't get that price). After the starter was put in we got a call that the car started and immediately the engine seized. Because the same year, make, and model of the kia Sportage had recalls that directly resulted in the engine seizing, we checked for this recall, but the VIN number is not listed as a recall. How many recalls on the same problem must occur before another VIN number is added to the list? my husband could have been on the parkway when the engine seized or in a dangerous location and could have been killed or in a wreck. Shorkey said kia is not covering anything and we need a new engine for $10,000. The car mileage is under 56,000 miles and it makes no sense that an engine should seize and be bad at this low mileage level unless there's a flaw in manufacturing, which there obviously is since other 2013 kia Sportages have been recalled (the recall which caused other kias to have their engine seize as well.
