Adaptive Cruise Control Problems of Kia Motor Sportage

As I am driving, does not matter speed or weather, the instrument cluster screen will do a "system check" as if the vehicle is being started. The screen will go blank for about 5 seconds and then will reappear. If the vehicle is in cruise control, that will disengage and the vehicle will slow down and I have to catch it and keep speed up. This does not happen every day and has happened at different intervals of 6 days between incidents and up to 15 days. Occurred June 9, 2025; June 17, 2025; (vehicle in shop to be looked at June 23rd through August 5th); August 9, 2025, August 14, 2025; September 6, 2025, September 18, 2025; and October 2, 2025.

The highway driving assist in my vehicle turns off without warning. It’s having control of the steering and speed but randomly even when the hands are on the steering it switches off with no warning. Because it has control on the steering it tries to adjust even if we are to move it a little, but when it disengages there’s no warning or indication. This is a dangerous and it needs to notify the driver when ever it’s disengaging. It either needs to have a warning or needs to be disabled by kia through a recall. This seems to be a common problem in kia vehicles as reported online. Kindly look into the issue!.

2 problems occurred within 1 month from each other: - kia Sportage engine started to randomly stall. I needed to do a full stop in the middle of the road and restart the car to continue driving. I had 3 stalls happen within 2 weeks before I had time to take it to the dealer. The kia dealer held it for over a week and drove it but could not find any issues. They mentioned low oil, which was strange considering I recently replaced it. I also forced the dealer to do ignition tuning which seemed to have resolved the issue. - in a month after the first problem with stalling I experienced issues with the engine of unknown origin (so far). This happened this week. While going downhill cruise control shut off. After that the engine started to decelerate and the amber blinking engine light came off. Transmission started to be jerky. Dropped it off at the dealer again. I was very luck to not get into any major car accidents so far, but I was very close! smells, sounds, and looks like a potential recall that kia does not want to recognize.

This only happens on the freeway but happens every time on the freeway. When using adapted cruise control and you hit the brake, when you reengage the cruise the lka comes on and the steering wheel begins to assist. I do not want the lane assist to ever be engaged. I turned it off in the system settings. I believe it is a safety issue for drivers who are not aware that this will happen to them while driving and might cause a driver to jerk the wheel when they feel it the steering wheel move in their hands. I know it is going to happen but I am sometimes still startled by it. Besides being what I consised a safety issue, it [xxx] to have to hit the button to delete the lka each time it happens, which, on a freeway with traffic, can be often. Otherwise, I love my kia. . . While driving at random times, no specific speed limit, the screen behind the wheel which shows speed and tachometer, will go into a system check mode. This is similar to when you start up the vehicle. The screen will come back after 5 to 10 seconds but during that time no information is displayed. If you have the vehicle in cruise control, it will disconnect cruise control, and you must catch it, so it does not decelerate to much while in traffic. When it comes back up it may reengage the cruise and it may not. This is a safety issue while driving for both no screen as well as disconnection of cruise control as you can not tell your speed and it slows vehicle down with no brake indication for those behind you which could result in a crash. Vehicle went to dealership and they could not recreate, but were told to replace the cluster which they did, but the issue is still happening on the vehicle. I have a case open with the automobile manufacturer to have the vehicle purchased back as they are not sure what the issue is.

Vehicle dash reset and cruise control was set. When dash came back up car surged nearly causing a wreck reported to dealership and they could not replicate so not sure what to do as they can never replicate the issues and won't do anything to help.

When I was driving the vehicle using cruise control, the vehicle suddenly reset the cruise to 110 mph and the vehicle surged forward. The brake disengaged the acceleration but when I reengaged the cruise control it surged toward 110 miles an hours again. The only fix for this was to turn the car off completely and then the cruise control acted normally once again. Then it happened a second time. After that I quit using cruise control. I brought the vehicle in to luther kia of bloomington and they did not know how to fix it. They contacted kia who said their engineers were working on a fix and they were aware of the problem but at this point they did not have one. I have engaged a buyback request from kia because this vehicle is unsafe and potentially fatal to drive. They have denied my buyback request. I am reporting this because I think it is a danger to not only myself but other vehicles on the road.

While driving in cruise mode at 70mph in the [xxx] , the vehicle suddenly accelerated to 110mph. I detected the issue when I felt the car speeding up by itself, so I proceed to brake to avoid any accidents. As you might already have noticed, this is a major safety concern. I tried setting the car to cruise mode again, and it repeated the same action. The car was sent to the dealership, but they couldn't fix the issue. Reset the car and apparently was solved. Two months later, while driving my daily commute, the car repeated the same issue stated above. This time I had a car closer and could avoid to have a major issue by quickly braking the car, as the car quickly increased the power to reach the 110mph that for some unknow reason is doing by itself. I sent the car again to the dealership, they couldn't fix the issue and it's been in maintenance for over 55 days. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. Two issues that I've taken to dealership 3 times since purchasing vehicle January 2024. 1. Adaptive cruise control -- I was in right lane of 4 lane highway with cruise control on. A car in left lane took a turn to cut through median and my car thought it was a collision and hard braked and took my vehicle from 60mph to 35mph in a few seconds. If a car had been behind me, I would have been rear ended. They cannot "replicate" so I no longer use cruise control unless there are no cars around. 2. Timing has been off (loud clicking every time I crank) since a few months after I bought the car. I sent approximately 9 videos to the service advisor. Took it in 2 times "cannot replicate. " left it overnight at dealership "cannot replicate. " it's every time I first crank for the day. It's now louder and gotten worse. I have videos and can take more. I just want this fixed. Afraid I'll be stranded and it feels like they are pushing it farther and farther out so it will exceed warranty and they won't have to eat the cost to repair. It's been 1. 5 years I've been dealing with this. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated!!.

We were driving down the road and heard a whine. About 2 minutes later there was a pop in both front wheels locked we could not move and we cannot get them to unlock.

When on a cruise control it started accelerating on its own to an extremely high speed. Happened a few time to me. Clears only if you restart the vehicle. Scary. I have a video to proof, it won’t let me attach the video. I know that some other people had experience same, I seen comments on facebook group for kia Sportage hybrid 2023. I filed under lemon law for this vehicle for a different reason in June 2023. But manufacturer still haven’t gave me a comparable vehicle and I have to drive this death trap.

Car wouldn’t accelerate, could be problem if turning left into traffic. Trip to florida, 1000 miles, the engine accelerated by itself, one time the mph was into the 90’s before I got it under control. This happened 3 times on my drive florida from indiana.

When I achieved my desired speed while driving on the highway, I turned on my adaptive cruise control as I usually do. This time, the car began accelerating dramatically, set on 110mph instead of my desire 55mph. It did this twice, even after I turned off the cruise control. I parked on the side of the street and restarted the car before it returned to normal. My life was very much threatened while I was driving as well as the lives of my fellow highway drivers that night. I will be taking this to my dealership but I also need this reported.

The cruise control and limit control system activates itself suddenly while driving on roads, streets, highways or any road, accelerating or decelerating unlimitedly; endangering my physical integrity, my family and the people around me. It reported this unsafety kia Sportage 2023 to kia car dealer over 5 times and kia America corporation but nothing; also to bbb autoline, ago (attorney general’s office) and as far this case waiting for. . . I don't know what or where else could I do or go??.

Highway driving assistant will bias vehicle to the right side even when passing on left on multi lane freeway. Creates a close encounter with vehicles in right lane as there is no distance between mirrors and results in side collision with no alert. Lane keep will erratically pull the steering wheel from your hands when lines on right or left disappear e. G. Ramps on freeways. Can result in a crash or collision and us very easy to notice. No results back from kia or concerns to fix. Returned car saying no issues.

My cruise control works some times and then it doesn't. I was driving 80 mph with my cruise control on and couldn't shut it off. Finally stepping on the brake door work to shut it off. I can't see the mileage driven more than half the time, as well.

The day I drove the car off the lot after purchasing (roughly 4 years ago) the low tire pressure sensor came on and I was unable to get it to go off. Mentioned it to the dealership whenever I went back for my first oil change and they told me they were able to “wake it up” whenever they checked the tire pressure. It continues to not accurately read if the tire pressure is low or not. A couple of months ago (summertime) my sunroof would not close. I finally got it to close completely after having to turn the car on and off multiple times and I have not risked trying it again since. The biggest issue I’m having now is about a month ago (November) I went to start my car and not only would the engine not turn over, but all the lights kept flickering as if the alternator was going out. I not only replaced the alternator, but also have to get a brand new battery because it was completely drained and would not jump within a day. Now, a couple days ago, I went to start it again and it did something similar - though after doing some troubleshooting I think it might be a bad starter this time that has now killed my battery. Both of these times my car did not show any type of warning lights. My concern comes from the fact that several recalls for the exact same make/model/year of the vehicle I’m driving have been coming out and one of them includes the engine just “freezing up” or “dies for no reason” including while people are driving at highway speeds. No recall has been posted for my specific VIN number yet, but I’m concerned it’s just a matter of time based on these continued issues I’ve been having.

When cruise control is in place and you brake for traffic, to resume cruise speed if you hold the resume button for more than standard the car resets speed to 20mph and you have no control on gas pedal. The only fix is to turn off the card and restart. We are glad to have it inspected. This item has put our lives in danger about five times as we were using cruise on the highway traveling 65 plus mph and cars were coming upon us. We reported the issue back in March 2021 and several more times back into a kia dealership. It took months but they duplicated the problem on our vehicle and so they tested a 2020 Sportage and had the same issue. The car stalls while on the freeway and kia dealership states it is normal operating procedures as the resume button should be a quick touch, not a prolonged one. There are no warning indicators this is going to happen. The local kia dealership states they have contacted kia engineers and they are confirming that it is operating within normal parameters.

Vehicle has excessive wandering, that is intermittent, during traffic, surrounding traffic on freeways and on slight wind and rain. The vehicle exhibits behavior that is very very unstable. . I’ve had the vehicle for about three years and it’s been doing this for about two years now intermittently I recently took it into the kia dealership in stocton to have it looked at nothing was determined other than the state of the problem.
