Warnings Problems of Kia Motor Sportage

I was stopped in the left hand turn lane, then accelerated to cross 2 lanes of traffic. I then let off the accelerator, and applied the brakes to stop, and the brakes did not function. I then rear ended a vehicle in front of me due to the intermittent loss of brakes. It may have also been the propulsion system kept going. Either way the vehicle maintained the same speed of about 15mph until I collided with the vehicle in front of me which stopped me. The brakes worked fine again after the collision. There also was no forward collision avoidance system that was triggered in any way. This vehicle is a rental car.

While actively parking, my car accelerated and slammed into a wall an arm's length away. The collision was impactful enough to cause my seatbelt to engage and slam into my sternum. While attempting to turn off the car, the computer system glitched, engaging all three different drive modes (n, r, d). The breaking command I gave the vehicle was ignored, and the vehicle accelerated into the parking garage wall. No front collision assist or safety feature engaged. The vehicle is currently at a repair shop with the damage cost totalling $17k. The mfr recently inspected the car in decemeber when the lease expired and I purchased the vehicle. Prior to that in October, the car came to a full stop and turned off on the highway.

I was involved in a motor vehicle collision where my vehicle sustained significant front-end damage and was later declared a total loss by my insurance company. Despite the severity of the impact, the front airbags did not deploy. The impact was primarily to the front of the vehicle, and the damage required extensive repairs, exceeding the threshold for a total loss. I was wearing my seatbelt at the time of the crash. The failure of the airbag system to deploy raised serious safety concerns, as airbags are intended to provide occupant protection in frontal crashes of this nature. I experienced physical discomfort after the incident and believe the lack of airbag deployment increased the risk of injury. There were no warning lights or messages related to the airbag or restraint system prior to the crash. The vehicle had not shown any prior airbag or safety system faults. The vehicle is currently available for inspection and has been reviewed by the insurance company. I am reporting this incident to request investigation into a potential airbag system malfunction that could pose a safety risk to other drivers.

I was driving my 2020 kia Sportage recently and experienced a safety issue 3 times within 30 minutes. I was driving on a highway (pennsylvania turnpike/I-76) at night. Prior to the issue occurring, I drove through an area where snow was falling, there was fresh salt on the road, and I had been behind salt trucks briefly at different times. While driving through the snow and with exposure to the salt, my car notified me that the forward collision detection system could not operate because the sensors were blocked. Some time later in the drive, after that notification had turned off and remained off for a bit of time, I engaged my cruise control which uses the forward collision detection system. At 3 different times, I either approached a barrier (which run a large portion of I-76 to separate the east and west bound lanes) or a vehicle (I believe it was a semi truck) in the lane next to me while entering a curve. While entering the curve, the sensor saw these items and falsely detected a vehicle in front of me, and responded by rapidly slowing my vehicle. Two times the vehicle speed dropped about 20 mph within 30 seconds. On each occasion, I was fortunate that there was no vehicle close behind me that likely would have rear-ended me.

Blank instrument panel screen. Abnormal can message which can cause certain instrument clusters with a 4. 2” screen to reboot while driving. During this rebooting, the cluster will not show information such as the speedometer or telltales for approximately five (5) seconds. As a result, the subject vehicles do not comply with the visibility and illumination requirements of fmvss 101, §§ s5. 1. 2 and 5. 3. 1.

Description of crash: on [xxx], I was involved in a front-end collision while driving my 2024 kia Sportage. Despite the impact, the airbags did not deploy. Additionally, the forward collision assistance system did not engage or warn me prior to the crash, even though conditions were normal and the system was active. Safety concern: •the airbags and collision assistance are federally regulated safety systems. Their failure put me and any potential passengers at serious risk. •I am very concerned this indicates a defect in the airbag and/or collision avoidance system. Damage/injuries: my front end of my vehicle is completely destroyed, and so is my engine. Hello , my mom was driving . She had all the lane driving assist systems on. The driving assist , lane assist, forward collision assist, lane keeping assist, & cruise control. It had started to rain my mom tried to move over to the middle lane the steer wheel would not let her it pulled her back as if someone was on the side of her but it wasnt it then started driving by itself. The car started malfunctioning , it toke control my mom tried to get a hold of the wheel but the power assit would not let her. It then turned by itself and drove straight into a mountain. We hit it head on with no warning. We then flipped 5 times and landed upside down. The door and windows did not work we were trapped. The power was completely out in the car. My insurance company has inspected it and states that they think the car malfunctioned. I have called kia and they stated a engineer was suppose to go get the black box to get the data. It has been three weeks kia has stopped returning my calls. My insurance company is holding my car for 90 days. Please help. It is availible for inspection .

Car is 119 miles. I was driving and steering wheel stopped working out of nowhere.

Multiple times I have reported all of my cluster lights come on randomly while driving. They are distracting and it's difficult to tell if the systems are actually working. The dealership claims it's a rear sensor however they refuse to fix it due to my car appears to have been hit. There's no damage to my vehicle any where. Now I have to wait for the lights to come on again before I can take it to another dealership and have it reassessed.

My vehicle is currently being held at a kia dealership in woodstock, GA to attempt to find the problem with my car. The lateral g sensor code as well as a few others were found in diagnostic testing. They attempted to fix it with replacing the air bag module but it did not remove the problem. My problem is this: four of my adas lights have come on several times over the last few months at random, but all at the same time. It turns off every single safety feature of my vehicle. One time I was driving and my abs light came on and off quickly as if it were stuck and the car started to pull me off the road as I tried to accelerate. I was told there may be a software issue with my vehicle and that they would take months to fix it if they can. I am concerned for my safety at this point.

I had my 2023 kia Sportage in the kia shop in mckinney, TX about 3 weeks ago for an electrical issue. All of my lights on my dash were on. They insisted my battery was bad, so they made me buy a battery. (my car isn’t even 3 years old). So, once the new battery was installed, the technician stated all was good, that it was just a bad battery, that was why all the lights on my dash were there. When I started my car this morning, what do you know! all of the warning lights were on my dash again. They did nothing to fix the issue. There were unsure of what was causing the electrical issues in the first place. I am writing this to you to inform you of the electrical issues among kia.

Purchased the vehicle 2nd hand January 29th 2025. Since then she has been in and out of multiple shops including kia. Check engine light, loss of power on fwy, shifting/brake changes from a stop. From jerking, lunging, studder, taking off fast, not wanting to go at all. I was on these dips that I encounter almost daily and the collision warning went off. There wasnt anything in front of me. 2 weeks later I was cut off and had to swerve to avoid. Collision warning did not go off. Driving on the fwy and the gas pedal pulled away from my foot as if it was accelerating. Kia has done a hard carbon, changed all fuel injectors. Last time they stated there was a factory defect with the rotors, changed all 4 rotors. Still she drives like this. Carmax, kia and daniels tires no one can tell me what is wrong! I have driven a 2024 same make and model and the car drove beautifully. Something is wrong with my particular vehicle. This is becoming frustrating. Please help. I drive often, I hike a lot. We are always on winding roads. I can't afford to sell it as I still owe. I love the vehicle, aside from this, like I'm just waiting for disaster to occur. Miles started at 14. 5k and it's now 33k. Speeds have been anywhere from a complete stop to go and fwy speeds of 55 to 80.

There is no adaptive cruise control or front sensing collision avoidance. With the lane keeping assist, the vehicle does not detect anything in front of it (cars, pedestrians, cyclists, etc. ). If the road line veers, the vehicle will follow the line into the next lane, while not avoiding other vehicles in the lane. We have to manually steer the vehicle back into our lane. This has been occuring since we purchased the vehicle from [xxx] in boise, id. We have taken it in for 2 service checks, called kia consumer affairs, explaining this situation, and they just tell us they didn't find any issues. On November 25, 2024, the dash and infotainment screen went blank while at the traffic light. A few seconds later the car stalled shutting completely off while making a left turn onto cox rd in evans, GA. We were able to coast out of traffic and came to a complete stop on the side of the road. We attempted to restart the vehicle and multiple warnings appeared on the dash such as check forward safety system, two cars colliding, check blind spot safety system, traction?, abs, lane departure, seat belts, auto hold, and other symbols not understood. On the second attempt, the vehicle restarted and more warning symbols appeared as soon as it was put in drive. The vehicle was shut off and restarted again with no warnings. We proceeded and drove it to kia of evans for service. The service rep reported that the vehicle was driven 5 miles and they were not able to duplicate this issues. The infotainment screen has blanked out several times since purchase and this is the second time the vehicle has stalled at a traffic light. On this incident, this could have been a traffic situation turning left and losing power into oncoming traffic.

While traveling on a 4-lane highway and using cruise control, a car in the left-hand lane was making a left turn across a median cut through, and my car's sensors detected a collision and took me from 60 mph down to 35 mph in about five seconds. If a car had been behind me, it would have rear ended me. I no longer use the cruise control for this reason. And yes, my sensors were clean. I had just gotten the car cleaned within a day or two prior. I have an appointment this coming Monday to take it to the dealership, to have them look at it. Separate incident. While parked in a parking lot, came out of restaurant and cars were parked very close on either side of my car. My car's sensors detected collision and would not let me back out. I had to pull forward and try to go back numerous times before it finally released the collision warning and allowed me to back out. This happened many months ago, but I am just now having the time to take it and drop it to the dealership because they want to keep it all day.

I recently filed a safety problem concerning my brakes activating for no reason. It had happened 3 times before I filed. It want to report that it happened a 4th time. On new year's eve, at approximately 6:20pm, I was driving on a 4 lane road about 35-40 mph when my brakes slammed down hard. There was a long beeping sound only while the car was breaking but no other indicators. It was raining and dark. I braced myself for impact. I thought for sure my car was going to slide into something. There were no cars in front of me in either direction nor where any cars behind. Nothing obstructing the road. Nothing to give my car a reason to do that. Luckily there wasn't anyone behind me or else I absolutley would have been rear ended. The brakes locked for approximately 3-4 seconds before they let up. I am very happy that I wasn't on the highway at the time. I called kia the day after new year's. This time I was offered to bring in the car and get a loaner to drive while they take a look at it. This is the 4th time in 3 months this has happened.

I purchased my car in August 2022, and the cruise control issue began in September 2023. It occurs randomly and significantly makes me feel unsafe in my vehicle. I have not been able to enjoy full use of my vehicle. Kia has been aware of this issue since at least April 2024 (when they first called me), even though I made my report to the NHTSA in October 2023 (NHTSA 11549711). Today, kia informed me that the video that I risked my life to take of my car almost killing me and other road drivers was not enough and that they could not replicate the issue. The response time from my case manager has literally been atrocious. These issues have significantly limited my use and enjoyment of the vehicle, making me regret my purchase. I did not expect to rely on rentals without the features that led me to choose this car, especially due to delays in addressing my case.

While driving my kia Sportage 2023 w/ just 9000 miles brand new car the entire display screen went black. The car continued at the same speed, but I was unable to see any navigation such us my speed, signaling, etc. I was unable to pull over due to my location in the highway. It was terrifying. Within 10 seconds the screen came back to normal. As of right now kia is refusing to examine the issue in my car until I provide them with evidence of the problem. Therefore, I need to continue to drive it until I can record it in a video (while driving) and present it to them. My car as of right now is not recalled. Please help address this issue with these models and the lack of responsibility kia is taking by risking drivers to get on accidents due to this issue. Thank you 1.

I had a number of systems suddenly cut out on me. The dealership thinks it was a fuse or fuses that went bad. They affected the car's following systems: * primary instrument cluster (left side) * forward collision avoidance-assist w/car, pedestrian and cyclist detection * advanced collision avoidance (auto-breaking) * lane following assist * lane keeping assist * driver attention warning w/ leading vehicle departure alert * blind-spot collision-avoidance assist (in mirrors) * door unlock warning (I received several warnings that my doors were unlocked even when they were locked) * entrance/exit chime * blinker sound * compass * internal navigation (gps worked but because the compass was broken, the mapping system did not know which way my car was traveling. ) * fuel efficiency was incorrect. I never got above 31 miles to the gallon.

My vehicle starting shaking while idling, check engine light came on. Turned car off and went to restart with push button start vehicle just kept cranking for a min and wouldn’t start, stopped it and tried again after a min of cranking it started, went to drive had no pick up speed, rom’s where all over the place. Transmission feels funny while driving like the car doesn’t want to go or shift gears. Electrical components in vehicle touch screen lcdscreen goes black and can’t get it to go back on, turn car off and still doesn’t come back on, forward collision goes off when nothing around and starts braking, warning light for back passenger tail light goes on and tail light works fine. Tried to get into the dealer but they have no loaner vehicles or appts for a couple weeks.

A vehicle failed to the right of way to me and resulted in a front end collision. Upon collision the airbags deployed and immediately began smoking. I thought my car was about to catch fire and smelt as if was going to. The airbags heat alone resulted in the entire arm of my jacket to completely melt and I now have a permanent scar on my left wrist from where I was burned.

Bought the kia Sportage 2023 on Saturday January 14th, 2023 and took it back to dealership on Monday January 16th, 2023 with warning lights on the dash/infotainment center saying check lane safety system, check forward safety system, and check blind-spot safety system. Today is Friday January 20th, 2023 and finally got a call at 8:27am from justin at the service department at kia gossett in TN. He said they are still working on it and the tech still has no idea what is wrong and they are working with kia to try and fix the problem but are unable to give the car back in its current condition. Makes us nervous now to drive this car once we get it back.

On Aug 25th I was driving and the screens all shut off while driving, I didn't think anything of it, but a few hours later in ocala FL, cars had started breaking and slowing down, but then started again, but one lady had not started moving and I ended up hitting her I didn't have no warning telling me I was getting close to a car nor did it break at all like it's supposed to. It beeps when you park but now on Dec 5 a truck cut me off and it I couldn't break fast enough but the car is equipped with safety features that aren't working and now I'm injured and they won't total my car because it's 2023, I don't feel safe driving a car I spent alot of money on and now I have no choice because I won't ever be able to get close to what the cars worth as a trade in.

For the two months I have had my car I have had problems with indicators going off on my dashboard warning to check various parts of the driver’s assistance system. I took it to the dealership three times and was told they cannot help because when they had the car for three days they didn’t have any problems and unless they get a code there wasn’t anything they could do. However, recently when it happened again I used the kia connect app on the dashboard to select the vehicle diagnostic, and it indicated there was a problem with the integrated breaking and body control system, lane assist, and airbags. It seems weird that the car itself is able to diagnose there is a problem but the dealership cannot. Also, the rear cross traffic control system has repeatedly come on when reversing causing my car to hard stops even though there is nothing behind my car. Then, yesterday when at a stop light the car stalled and a loud warning sound was blaring in the car. When I got the car working again the ac wouldn’t work for the rest of the trip. Each time there is a problem the problem will clear up after turning the car off for a period of time. But then the next day the problems will start back up randomly when the car is driving.

The component on the kia 2022 Sportage lx called the forward collision warning failed to come on during an accident. This car is available for inspection upon request. My safety and the driver in the car in front of me were put at risk. We were both wearing our seat belts and did not suffer any health issues, but for the future of all drivers, this failed warning system should be recalled. The dealer will not confirm the problem, but the autobody company that repaired the damage confirms that there are no proper parts to confirm this system appropriately. This model only has a camera that sits behind the rearview mirror area. It has gone off two times since the accident where it states that the system is disengaged even though it is turned on. The police only viewed the damage and stated the car was driveable. The insurance company viewed the damage and gave compensation to have it fixed. The autobody company repaired the damage but was concerned about the system failure. I reported it and discussed it with the consumer relations person for the dealership. I also spoke with the general manager of the dealership. They said I would have to make the complaint to kia. They would not give me an appropriate trade-in value for another safer vehicle. There were not any warning lamps, sounds or messages that went off before the impact occurred.

I was involved in a highway forward collision accident and the emergency braking, alert, and air bags never went off.
