Assist Problems of Kia Motor Sportage

I am reporting a potential safety issue involving the lane assist system on our kia Sportage. On Monday morning, my wife was driving on a straight road and began turning left onto a side street. During the turn, the vehicle’s lane assist system suddenly applied a strong steering correction. The steering wheel jerked unexpectedly and momentarily resisted the driver’s attempt to correct the steering. This sudden steering intervention caused the vehicle to veer toward a guardrail, resulting in a collision. The driver did not intentionally steer toward the guardrail and attempted to correct the vehicle, but the steering wheel resisted input at the moment the lane assist system intervened. A dashcam in the vehicle recorded the incident, and the responding police officer reviewed the footage at the scene and concluded that the steering wheel jerked toward the guardrail. The police report notes that the accident appeared to involve a possible vehicle malfunction. After the incident, we discovered that this vehicle is included in NHTSA campaign 26v046000, which states that a software error may cause the instrument panel display to fail to show critical safety information such as warning lights. If a malfunction warning occurred but was not displayed, the driver would not have been aware of a problem with the system. The lane assist feature in this vehicle also automatically reactivates each time the vehicle is started, meaning the driver cannot permanently disable it. Because the steering intervention occurred unexpectedly during a normal turn and resulted in a collision, we are reporting this incident so it can be reviewed as a potential safety defect involving the lane assist or related vehicle systems.

I turned on my vehicle and began driving in philadelphia. I noticed the dashboard where the speedometer was supposed to be was dark. The apple car play on the right side of the dashboard was on but no other components were visible. Such as turning signal, lane keep assist, speedometer, etc. I was on the highway and this was extremely scary. This vehicle has less then 200 miles. I’ve taken it to kia and they are looking into it. But this is a big concern. I have videos of this but it won’t let me add them to this file.

On [xxx], at approximately [xxx], while driving my 2025 kia Sportage with the lane assist system engaged in palm beach gardens, florida, near the at&t building at [xxx] , the system suddenly jerked the steering wheel sharply to the right while I was crossing an intersection. I had my hands on the wheel, but the force was so strong it felt as if someone else had grabbed it and tugged it hard. Despite trying to react immediately, the car slammed into a guardrail. This was an extreme safety issue, especially since I am [xxx]. The incident caused significant vehicle damage, leaking fluid, and left me stranded on the side of the road in unsafe heat conditions without being able to keep the car running for air conditioning. No warning lights appeared before the failure. The system appeared to malfunction without cause. This unexpected steering correction created a serious risk to my safety and the safety of others on the road. I trusted this safety feature, but instead it caused an accident. Hello , my mom was driving . She had all the lane driving assist systems on. The driving assist , lane assist, forward collision assist, lane keeping assist, & cruise control. It had started to rain my mom tried to move over to the middle lane the steer wheel would not let her it pulled her back as if someone was on the side of her but it wasnt it then started driving by itself. The car started malfunctioning , it toke control my mom tried to get a hold of the wheel but the power assit would not let her. It then turned by itself and drove straight into a mountain. We hit it head on with no warning. We then flipped 5 times and landed upside down. The door and windows did not work we were trapped. The power was completely out in the car. My insurance company has inspected it and states that they think the car malfunctioned. I have called kia and they stated a engineer was suppose to go get the black box to get the data. It has been three weeks kia has stopped returning my calls. My insurance company is holding my car for 90 days. Please help. It is availible for inspection .

This only happens on the freeway but happens every time on the freeway. When using adapted cruise control and you hit the brake, when you reengage the cruise the lka comes on and the steering wheel begins to assist. I do not want the lane assist to ever be engaged. I turned it off in the system settings. I believe it is a safety issue for drivers who are not aware that this will happen to them while driving and might cause a driver to jerk the wheel when they feel it the steering wheel move in their hands. I know it is going to happen but I am sometimes still startled by it. Besides being what I consised a safety issue, it [xxx] to have to hit the button to delete the lka each time it happens, which, on a freeway with traffic, can be often. Otherwise, I love my kia. . . I was driving on the highway and encountered a slick spot. The lane keeping assist and braking caused the car to veer to left to try to stay in the lane, which in turn caused the car to spin around twice. The car need to turn in the direction of the spin which was not possible because the lane assist was controlling the steering wheel.

Car is 119 miles. I was driving and steering wheel stopped working out of nowhere.

There is no adaptive cruise control or front sensing collision avoidance. With the lane keeping assist, the vehicle does not detect anything in front of it (cars, pedestrians, cyclists, etc. ). If the road line veers, the vehicle will follow the line into the next lane, while not avoiding other vehicles in the lane. We have to manually steer the vehicle back into our lane. This has been occuring since we purchased the vehicle from [xxx] in boise, id. We have taken it in for 2 service checks, called kia consumer affairs, explaining this situation, and they just tell us they didn't find any issues. At startup or during driving, all safety features will go into warning mode and disable, including lane following assist, forward collision avoidance, electrical parking brake malfunction, electronic stability control malfunction, automatic braking, and downhill brake indicator. All warning lights illuminate on dash until car is stopped and turned off. And even then they may come on again upon restart. This has happened intermittently since I purchased the vehicle and kia says they don't know the source nor can fix it. Most recently, the car engine stopped while stopped at a traffic light when the warning lights started to cycle on.

On several occasions the lane keeping assistance has attempted to steer my vehicle into energy absorbing barrier, both with me driving and with my sister driving. Vehicle speed approximately 40 mph, lane splitting, I was taking left lane. Forty feet from point of barrier, wheel jerks hard right, setting me up for dead center collision with point of barrier. If I had not immediately jerked the wheel left the results would have been catastrophic. I would have hit the barrier in a single second after the cars action. I took it to the kia dealer service who claims he cannot disable "lane following". Additionally, that I have to disable it every time I start the car. Also, when going thru intersections the car will switch traffic lanes on it's own. I feel this is an incredibly unsafe system. For god's sake, the car just veers off on its own.

Highway driving assistant will bias vehicle to the right side even when passing on left on multi lane freeway. Creates a close encounter with vehicles in right lane as there is no distance between mirrors and results in side collision with no alert. Lane keep will erratically pull the steering wheel from your hands when lines on right or left disappear e. G. Ramps on freeways. Can result in a crash or collision and us very easy to notice. No results back from kia or concerns to fix. Returned car saying no issues.

Bought the kia Sportage 2023 on Saturday January 14th, 2023 and took it back to dealership on Monday January 16th, 2023 with warning lights on the dash/infotainment center saying check lane safety system, check forward safety system, and check blind-spot safety system. Today is Friday January 20th, 2023 and finally got a call at 8:27am from justin at the service department at kia gossett in TN. He said they are still working on it and the tech still has no idea what is wrong and they are working with kia to try and fix the problem but are unable to give the car back in its current condition. Makes us nervous now to drive this car once we get it back.

Fuse out and back doesn't open by its self. Not sure if it's supposed to . I don't remember and the guy who sold it to me no longer works there. I was in park and the lane assist came on .

The contact owns a 2021 kia Sportage. The contact stated that while driving at 55 mph, the lane keeping assist veered the vehicle off the road and crashed into the guard rail. The lane assist warning light was illuminated. Additionally, while driving at unknown speeds the check system immediately message was displayed. There were no reported injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to lou fusz kia (1025 n lindbergh blvd, st. Louis, mo 63132:;(314) 931-4482) but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately was 700.

Vehicle has excessive wandering, that is intermittent, during traffic, surrounding traffic on freeways and on slight wind and rain. The vehicle exhibits behavior that is very very unstable. . I’ve had the vehicle for about three years and it’s been doing this for about two years now intermittently I recently took it into the kia dealership in stocton to have it looked at nothing was determined other than the state of the problem.
