Blind Spot Detection Problems of Kia Motor Sportage

Dear sir or madam, my car was hit by another car when I tried to switch to the next lane. I did give a turning signal and observed before switching. However, a car sped past and hit my car. If the detection system had sounded an alarm at that time, I wouldn't have changed lanes at that moment. Unfortunately the lane assist and blind spot detection system was not functioning correctly and failed to provide a warning. This malfunction didn't occur only once, it happened again after this accident(no consequences though). I gave feedback to kia and I believe my detection system is not working consistently. I requested an inspection on my car. Kia refused to repair the damaged areas for inspection purposes, instead, they pushed ota updates into my car, and they pushed twice within two weeks without informing me. I asked kia if the existing issue still could be detected as they pushed the ota updates. They didn't answer despite me asked twice. Feeling quite helpless, I searched and noted another person's kia had the same issue: detection system not working consistently. I realized that I will be unable to prove that this vehicle had pre-existing issues due to the ota updates. I'm worried that kia might use this as an excuse to refuse to repair the damaged areas. I understand I cannot totally rely on the detection system, but this feature can enhance safety if it works well, at least I would pause and not act if it provides warning properly. Thank you.

Multiple times I have reported all of my cluster lights come on randomly while driving. They are distracting and it's difficult to tell if the systems are actually working. The dealership claims it's a rear sensor however they refuse to fix it due to my car appears to have been hit. There's no damage to my vehicle any where. Now I have to wait for the lights to come on again before I can take it to another dealership and have it reassessed.

The ecu malfunctioned and the passenger side airbag didn’t go off and should have. There were error codes and I told kia service department about it but they weren’t to concerned and said they would look at it at my first service appointment.

My vehicle intermittently starts with the blind spot warning, lane departure warning, rear cross traffic warning (and rearview camera), defoggers, and ac/heat not functioning. When this happens, the temperature control knobs are hardly visible and the car will flash “battery discharge warning” on the display screen for several seconds. An error code also appears in the kia app when this issue happens. The error code immediately goes to history error codes so the dealership service center has not yet spent time to investigate the issue. The car has been to the dealership twice and the service advisor has witnessed the issue.

Bought the kia Sportage 2023 on Saturday January 14th, 2023 and took it back to dealership on Monday January 16th, 2023 with warning lights on the dash/infotainment center saying check lane safety system, check forward safety system, and check blind-spot safety system. Today is Friday January 20th, 2023 and finally got a call at 8:27am from justin at the service department at kia gossett in TN. He said they are still working on it and the tech still has no idea what is wrong and they are working with kia to try and fix the problem but are unable to give the car back in its current condition. Makes us nervous now to drive this car once we get it back.

For the two months I have had my car I have had problems with indicators going off on my dashboard warning to check various parts of the driver’s assistance system. I took it to the dealership three times and was told they cannot help because when they had the car for three days they didn’t have any problems and unless they get a code there wasn’t anything they could do. However, recently when it happened again I used the kia connect app on the dashboard to select the vehicle diagnostic, and it indicated there was a problem with the integrated breaking and body control system, lane assist, and airbags. It seems weird that the car itself is able to diagnose there is a problem but the dealership cannot. Also, the rear cross traffic control system has repeatedly come on when reversing causing my car to hard stops even though there is nothing behind my car. Then, yesterday when at a stop light the car stalled and a loud warning sound was blaring in the car. When I got the car working again the ac wouldn’t work for the rest of the trip. Each time there is a problem the problem will clear up after turning the car off for a period of time. But then the next day the problems will start back up randomly when the car is driving.

I am writing because this is an accident, just "waiting to happen. " I buy a new car every 3 or 4 years. I purchase every option, and even purchase the extended warranty package to 7 yrs, because of all the electronics in newer cars. I have never noticed on any of them, what I believe is an unsafe driving condition, until now. On my 2020 kia Sportage. . . At night, when dark, and you turn off either left or right. . . For some reason, the light does not follow you. . . It stays focused straight ahead. So, for some seconds, you cannot see, until your car straightens out again. This, I believe is a safety issue. If there was something, in that blind spot few seconds, you would hit it; a child, a biker, a large hole, an animal or some unexpected thing. . . Because it is impossible to see until the car totally straightens again. Accidents happen in seconds. I drive very slowly in turns, since I realized the bad decision someone at kia made with the lighting package on this car. . . . . But with that extra caution I take, I realize also, that someone coming behind me on the turn, could actually run into me, not expecting me to go slow as I turn off left or right. . . . Much slower than I would in daylight. I have called kia service and the 800 customer service number as well. . . They just refer you back and forth. So, I am writing to consumer safety hoping you can help. This is not an "option", it is a safety issue.
