Failure Date: 09/14/2018

"takata recall" I was driving on highway 59 in houston in the middle lane and my oil light began flashing. After it flashed it stopped and then it would not accelerate. After I noticed it was not accelerating I began to get off the main highway onto a service road. By the time I got onto the service road the truck went completely dead. I got out and checked the oil and I had oil on my dip stick. I had gotten an oil change on September 1, 2018.

7 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 08/02/2018

This has been going on for 2 years and I have contacted and gone to dealership with no satisfaction. While driving in wet conditions, the steering wheel will lock up, battery light will come on, car sometimes stalls and there is a high pitch squeal near right front wheel. I have read and printed many reports from online complaints where customers are saying same thing happens to them. I also have video that I took this morning on the way to work to document what happens because trying to recreate the problem at a dealership by spraying water on it does not help. I showed a CO-worker the video this morning and he said for me to keep it because if something happens to me while driving in the rain, perhaps this will help the lawsuit. I reported this originally in 2017 but has occurred every time I drive in the rain. This morning was the most recent and I fear for my safety driving this car. Does someone need to get killed before anything gets addressed???.

8 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2009 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 07/02/2018

This is complaint 2 of 2. The other complaint is in the category "air bags". Will driving the vehicle the electronic stability control "esc" off indicator lamp on the instrument panel came on. After shutting the vehicle off the indicator light would go off, only to come on again after driving a short distance. I took it to the dealer and the technician made the following comment: "esc light is on because of the brake light switch is shorting out inside the switch. " I explained to the dealer that the brake light switch was replaced by them as part of a recall on 9/7/13, and that I should not have to pay for a new switch. The dealer had to contact kia directly, and kia agreed to replace the switch for the second time. I now worry about the safety of my vehicle and as to why the replacement switch failed.

9 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2018 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 05/01/2018

In motion ; vehicle does not accelerate properly, no pickup my life in danger several times. Kia has sent letter in which I followed instructions. Dealership updated system. According to kia , the recall I received in the mail was specifically done so I would have warning light take ASAP to dealership. . , cleaning out all my bank accounts- kia finance never sent right title in my legal name after I faxed front and back end ,with docs they requested. Called weekly & because of there mistake he has stolen 1000s of dollars from my accounts . He is not a citizen so he doesn't care about our laws. He con cpa to forge taxes now ihavetohelp irs straighten it out. The cpa died I was told I having medical issues from stress anxiety. I never wanted new kia . . . But he sold it behind my back. Then bought most expensive car leaving me with -17;000 equity. On a car he ragged to hell and wrecked. Then canceled all extras including disabilty leaving me with no other choice but to trust owner. At the time ; my credit was 780; never missed a payment but had no work history due to tax fraud. The car has never ran correct I knew from day 1 it was pulling I realized kia had put a 4 cylinder in a SUV that should be a 6 . Now the recalls ironically timed when you came out with same car but a 6 cylinder changed the name. I paid 8;000 total traded 2 cars. Kia finance stated I never missed a payment until now. Due to continued abuse from my ex spouse. Transunion has frozen my credit reports, labeled me a true victim of stolen identity. And financial fraud. Kia to buy my car back so I can buy the car I want . Transunion, police, lifelock, wells fargo, criminal investigation , emergency hearing for protective order and state farm's have protected me.

13 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 07/27/2017

Rattling noise from steering column that is continuously getting worse. Vibration from wheel while braking intermittently. This more often occurs while making turns. Every time the wheel is turned left, there is a clicking noise but not when it's turned to the right. I was originally told it was the viscous coupling, then I was told it may be the entire steering column. Why does a 5 year old vehicle need a new steering column. Also, this has been going on since I got the car and has just continuously gotten worse. I took it to another mechanic since kia has misdiagnosed the issue several times. He agrees its in the steering column but the entire dash has to be pulled apart to pinpoint the exact piece within the steering column. Please see the attached email from kia.

14 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 07/15/2017

So I have been having problems with my front right tire I feel that it wiggles and wobbles a clog my alignment to get my stuff and I always need work done on it about every 2 to 3 months. I have also been having problems continuously getting locked out of my car. My car on or off always locks me out of my car. My passenger door never locks unless I lock it myself manually. My trunk door never opens as well when I push the unlock button and the key mailed it won't fit in it to unlock it that way I feel that the car over or has a wiring electrical problem.

15 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 04/16/2017

I will be driving and the esc off lights goes on dashboard. The car feels like it will stall out and becomes sluggish. I pull over and park the car then it won't go into drive or out of park. I wait over 15 minutes and am able to drive home. I have brought to kia dealtership and said it was brake switch. They replaced the brake switch and the problem persists. I will bring it in to dealer ship again because car seems unsafe to drive. The brake switch was replaced on April 3, 2017 and still a recurring problem.

16 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 04/11/2017

The vehicle has had a history of problems all described by the 2013 recall. The brake light is intermittent. I have had the cruise fail to turn off, the esc off light illuminates, the car can be shifted into gear without pressing the break with the ignition off. The vehicle will occasionally have automatic transmission issues with the break transmission interlock system which is causing the intermittent esc off light warning to randomly illuminate. It will go quite a time without it on then randomly turn on and off and then stay and then repeat the same type pattern associated with the reports of the initial recall. I have reported these issues to kia in which I called the kia us corporate line about a year and a half ago. It still continues despite regular service and proper vehicle care. The vehicle can be stationary or in movement. In many cases the esc off light illuminates when starting from a stopped position, or right after accelerating or beginning to accelerate. The only way to reset it is to turn the car off and then back on. Sometimes that works sometimes it doesn't. If it works at times, as soon as I move the shifter away from park it illuminates the esc off light. It is intermittent though and can be hard to catch. When it happens though it does so on and off randomly. This has occurred repeatedly since purchasing the car. Mechanics cannot figure it out except expressing it is exactly the description of the recall. I was unaware of the recall as my VIN didn't shot up. However the kia office told me the cars VIN was registered as Sportage without ac even thought it has ac and has since manufacture. The issues need attention. I was informed by another driver that the tail lights were out multiple times but I could never reproduce it. I've only caught it once at night as I can see the reflections of the brake lights behind me. Various speeds.

17 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 01/01/2017

I'm trying to check if my vehicle was recalled cause it's been driving really weird and then I heard that 2011 kia Sportage were being recalled and trying to find out if that's what's causing the problems.

18 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Kia Motor Sportage

19 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2009 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 09/05/2016

Last summer stop light switch was replaced per recall. Driving home at night about 65mph when the esc light and check engine light came on and the car engine started losing power down to 20mph. Accelerator didn't work. I was only a few miles from home. Made it home. Next day esc off light off. Did call kia dealership - no help. Next day, drove 30mph for about 1/2 mile esc off light came on on, lost engine power, made it 1/2 mile to work. Pushed esc button. Later that day, esc off light and check engine light were off. Drove 1 mile down a road 50mph when the esc light and check engine light came on and the car engine started losing power down to 20mph. Accelerator didn't work. Drove 20mph for about 1/2 mile. Made it home. Dangerous situation - driving 60+ and esc off light on and car immediately DE-accelerates. Could have been rear ended.

20 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2009 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 06/24/2016

I was driving down a busy road about 50mph when the esc light came on and the car engine started losing power. I pulled over, afraid to drive but then proceeded as I was only a few minutes from home. I made it home ok and consulted my manual as to what that light meant. I pushed it in (so that it was now "on" because the light said "off" and it drove ok for about a day. Then with no light coming back on, the engine just started reving up really hard and loud. . Like it was stuck in neutral and it started to lose power. I barely made it home safely and noe I'm afraid to drive it. It just came out of nowhere. . . Totally random. I have an appt to bring it in to kia service center mon. Morning and am currently driving a rental car. It was a very scarey event because both time it gave no warning at all!!.

21 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2009 Kia Motor Sportage

The contact owns a 2009 kia Sportage. While driving 40 mph, the esc indicator illuminated and the brakes engaged without the brake pedal being depressed. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent and occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the hydraulic control unit failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 86,000.

22 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 02/10/2016

I was driving the vehicle when my esc light, brake light and check engine light came on . I just got the car inspected and it passed fine. I took it to the shop where they said an oil sensor was bad. They replaced that. The very next day the lights went on again and the car was having trouble shifting into gears. It was jumping and accelerating intermittently. I took the car back to the shop and they said I had 4 transmission codes. They said the abs system needed to also be replaced which the part alone was over $2000. 00. This car only had 88,000 miles. I drove the car to mccafferty Ford where they advised me to not fix vehicle the cost was far more than what I would get as a trade. It needed a new abs box which alone was over 2000 without labor. It needed a timing chain 600 and some maintance stuff 700. This car never needed anyting but tires, brakes, oil changes etc. I find it hard to believe at 88, 000 all this could go wrong unless there was a defect in the abs or transmission. After looking this up I see that this is a very serious issue and concern. I traded in vehicle and was only give 500 as a trade.

23 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 01/04/2016

Brake lights inoperable, esc inoperable, cruise control inoperable, transmission stuck in park. Upon starting the vehicle I noticed 2 warning lights remain lighted. I looked in the manual of the vehicle and learned the warning lights for the esc. I continued to attempt to operate the vehicle by shifting the transmission interlockl lever into the "reverse" position. However, I was unable to move the transmission interlock lever. Upon researching that issue I learned I could utilize a manual override to switch into gear. I did this and upon driving the car home I realized the cruise control no longer worked and that the brake lights were not working via other drivers.

24 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 12/30/2015

Right after christmas and before new year's eve I received a phone call from a lady stating she was a kia representative. My vehicle was part of the recall for the brake switch. About ten days after the call my brake lights would no longer go out even when the vehicle had been sitting still overnight. Than about 3-5 days later my esc off light came on and now always stay on when the car is being driven. This past weekend I sent a service request online for the brake switch issue to be fixed. I did bunch of research and found out that the brake switch was the one causing the other issues and still can cause more. On 2/1/16 a kia service employee called and left a message stating that the recall didn't apply to may car. Later on that same day my cruise control stopped working. From all the research I did the brake switch is the cause for all three problems I'm having now. What I don't understand is how can other 2006 kia Sportages who have had the same issue like me is covered but my car is not.

25 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 11/11/2015

My SUV was in motion and the abs, esc and the diagram of the whole drive train lit up. I was backing out of my driveway when all of these lights came on at the same time.

26 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2015 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 09/12/2015

I was traveling approx. 50 mph and a woman pulled out in front of me and I (t boned ) her. My chest hit the steering wheel and then the air bag deployed immediately all functions stopped working. The car filled with white smoke from the air bag. My windows were up and I could not roll them down nor steer. I could not breath the car was rolling it stopped at approx. 50 ft. When I got out I was gasping I had a white substance all over me in my nose. I'm very concerned.

27 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 06/09/2015

Brake fluid had leaked into the abs control module disabling the abs, esc and brakes.

28 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 04/01/2015

The esc off light goes on and off all the time . I have never touched the button - the brake lughts do not always work either. I have replaced the bulbs many times, however now I cannot open the back hatch it seems to be stuck neither the push button or the key will open backhatch or window - making it now impossible to get to brake light to change bulb-very unsafe.

29 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2009 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 02/16/2015

I was getting my oil changed at valvoline oil change in liverpool, NY. During the routine light check, the tech said that my brake lights weren't coming on when I braked, only the top brake light strip in rear middle. I had seen the "esc off" light come on without any reason in the last few weeks. I also noticed that when getting on an interstate highway, my cruise control would turn on, but not set/engage. I researched online for these symptoms, and found there was a recall of kia Sportages both in 2009 and in 2013 for a stop lamp switch causing the exact same symptoms. The NHTSA campaign was #13v114000. In calling the burdick kia to get this replaced because of the recall, the service manager told me that the switch was replaced on August 2013, in compliance with the recall. Because of this, I can't get the switch replaced for free. I am just letting you know that there is still an issue with this condition, even with the 2013 recall and replacement.

30 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 12/03/2014

Dear nhsta, I have a 2006 kia Sportage with 69,245 miles and have been in the dealer on 12/4/14, 12/8/2014, 12/13/14, for engine shutting off while braking to enter another lane or to turn. Engine shut off again while braking to turn at 9:00pm on 12/16/14. Engine light have come on at least 6-8 times before at which each time I went into the service dealer on 12/3/14, 12/8/14 and 12/10/14. Sometimes if it was during the day I took the kia directly to the dealer. However I noticed while researching that this is an electrical issue with a faulty throttle system. In addition kia wants to charge me $248 to replace a throttle. From the reviews issued online this is a safety related defect that kia manufacturer is aware. According to safecar. Gov the consumer should not have to pay for a faulty throttle (e. G. Or faulty parts) and should be replaced by the service dealer. Finally cobb county service (customer # 20964) suggested repair invoice stated that after replacing tps need more diagnosis time with vehicle in order to find out issue? I should have to pay for a safety related defects (e. G. 267 or more complaints online not to mention the safety defects of the 2006 Sportage engine shutting off), especially to pay for a part that will not guarantee that the engine will not cut off. I also filed an inquiry with kia on today 12/16/2014, customer identification reference number (#k2853397). I am awaiting a call from kia about this inquiry. I also believe that this is a safety related defect and the cost of repairs should be remedied at no cost to me.

31 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 08/29/2014

I had kia inspect the air conditioner because it started working sporadically. I was informed by kia that they disconnected the unit to prevent the car from catching on fire. Verbatim: found blower motor bad and fried resistor and harness. Left unplugged to prevent fire from starting. This vehicle is well maintained and certainly should not have any air issues unless freon is needed. This vehicle is still under the 10 yr warranty, but it is just the power train. This issue is an issue that came straight off the manufacturing line and I am not sure how many vehicles have caught on fire, but I have read similar issues on this site. Kia should be held liable for manufacturing a 1 ton killing machine. If the car caught on fire, I could have been killed or some innocent bystander in my path. They unhooked the unit to preserve the engine, because that is still under warranty, not because they are concerned about the safety of the consumer. It is crazy that a recall hasn't been made yet. Also, my esc light keeps popping on and off and according to the recall list 2006 kia Sportages had a recall for the stability control lamp and I was informed my 2006 was not included in this recall. I had this fixed when I took my car in but the light still goes on and off, which is essentially a hazard if my brake lights are not illuminated or I cannot turn off my cruise control. Thank you for your time. Not an honorable company and does not stand behind their product.

32 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 06/12/2014

Riding down chadds Ford PA route one 6/12/14 ( Thursday) when my car started to shake out of control had pulled over in the middle of afternoon traffic . Only to find out that the passenger side back tie rod came apart. . The outer threads were stripped. I have a picture.

33 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 03/25/2014

Shortly after I took possession of this vehichle, on 3-15-14, I began to notice the traction control lights intermittently flashing on the dash panel and the vehicle began pulling to the right. This concerned me as it is an awd, and I was driving on dry pavement. I took the vehicle to the dealership and shared my concerns, they completed an alignment, they did report seeing the lights flashing on the dash but reported this was "normal" for this vehicle. Immediately following my picking the vehicle up from the dealership, it still pulled to the right and my tc lights continued to flash. I again returned to the dealership, they removed the tires, rebalanced and realigned it, which solved the "pulling" issue. However I talked at length with the serice rep, about the tc lights, and I did not see how this could be "normal" for a vehicle. I was concerned that this was suppored to be a safety feature, and yet it seemed to be malfuncitoning as it was trying to turn itself on during a dry take off and throttled the engine down to the point it almost died out. The service manager kept and drove the car for 2 days stating that it did in fact come on numerous times whil driving, I have been to the dealership numerous times to get this fixed to no avail. The car has barely 2000 miles on it and has spent most of the time in the shop. I don't feel safe driving it as I am afraid I will pull into traffic and get hit if the engine stalls out. I have shared my fears with the dealership and they say "there is nothing they can do for me and this is just what this vehicle does". . I am so angry about the amount of time I have spent with it in the shop, but more so don't want someone else to run into the same issue I have been having. . . I just don't know who to contact so I'm hoping you can help me in getting this issue notice and corrected before someone is injured.

34 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 01/15/2013

Approximately, two weeks after purchase in 01/2013, "esc off," light came on multiple times at various speeds including vehicle start up. I made several calls to place of purchase regarding intermittent, "esc off," light. Pressing " esc off," dash button has no effect and the light stays illuminated. Dealer of purchase took vehicle to kia service and the diagnostic was tpms light is on, advise. At no time did the tpms light ever come on, nor was it reported as such. Vehicle was returned with no work done, and place of purchase was informed that tire(s) were low. Currently, the "esc off," light is still illuminating and brake lights have failed. Tire pressure check by recent service (oil change) was reported as normal. According to kia customer support and the kia dealership of service, this vehicle is not included in the recall issued 01 April, 2013. Purchase mileage 27,476, mileage at kia service 30,328 on 21 Feb, 2013. Several online forums including kia-forums. Com report this problem as far back as 2007 models.

35 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 07/14/2012

Hi! I just took my 2007 kia Sportage in for an oil change today, July 14, 2012 and initially thought that my tail lights were burnt out. The mechanic stated that my vehicle's brake lights were not working at all. After researching the internet, I found out that kia recalled 2007 Sportage in 2009 because of external break lighting issues. I was not notified of this recall by the kia dealer whatsoever and have driven this car for three years. I am completely beside myself that I drove a car for three years with a major safety recall. At this point, I cannot afford a new car so I do not know what to do. I guess I should consider myself lucky to be alive. I have to submit this complaint because it is not right to keep this information from consumers. It is negligent and irresponsible to sell a car to someone if it has a safety recall and not to notify or warn them about it.
