Since buying this car 12/26/10 I have had a number of sensors and switches malfunction and needing replacement. Warning lights coming on and going off and dealer could not pull up codes to why they came on. I had problems where the car would not start. I'm having steering and suspension problems right now. Waiting on kia engineers to come inspect the car since dealer can't find or fix the problem. Car tends pulls to one side. Since brakes were replaced the car is hard to stop. I have had issues with the gps. Gas gage sticking. The car at time hesitates when trying to get up to speed to get on the freeway, like it has no power. Right now I don't feel safe driving my car. The front end just feels unstable. All work done on my car is done thru the dealer. It seems my car is back at the dealer for one repair or another several times a year. Sometimes days at a time. Longest its been in the shop was 9 days. I was not expecting this many issues with a new car.

I was driving and the vehicle would not brake, and steered right while driving 40-50 mph, hitting the curb and almost collided with another vehicle. Definite defect in the steering/fuel/brakes/electronicstabilitycontrol, and other minor mechanical malfunctions.

My complaint is with Kia Motors America. They were required to issue a recall on the 'stop lamp switch' in 2009 for certain kia models including my 2007 kia Sportage. I had my vehicle serviced in June of 2009 for this issue. Since then the "warranty" expired on the part and it is now broken again (I have no functional brake lights). The dealer indicated that they must charge me the full $160. 00 to fix it. However, there is a back order on the part, so I cannot drive my car legally for at least a week until the part comes in. This is concerning, why is the stop lamp switch continuing to fail? obviously since the part is on back order there seems to be a bigger problem - the recall seems to have failed! I contacted Kia Motors directly to see if they would help. The responded absolutely not, it was my problem because it is out of warranty. I would have to incur the expense. How do I know once it's fixed it won't happen again. There seems to be multiple safety concerns: 1) driving with no brake lights and being unaware; 2) the esc malfunction causes the cruise control to fail/not shut of when you press the brake. I am concerned that peoples safety is at risk.

Electronic stability system (ess) doesn't work on cold days. When starting car ess off light is on and the ess system won't work. Took car to dealer in spring 2010 and dealer indicated that problem was a bad brake light switch. Dealer replaced switch and ess appeared to be repaired. Cold weather hit again and the ess doesn't work again.

Esc light and brake lights don't work, on prior recall list, dealer refuses to fix.
The contact owns a 2005 kia Sportage. While driving at approximately 45 mph, the electronic stability program indicator would illuminate intermittently which she noticed since January 2010. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were 92,047.

During all of the 5 incidents in 2009 the engine misfired violently. At times 35mph was max speed. Cronin kia had my vehicle over 30 days in 5 visits in 2009. They have replaced; two cat. Converters, the ignition coil pack and spark plugs, a leaking fuel injector and associated wiring. Please note the error codes for visits 1 and 5 (3/17/09 and 7/14/09); p0300-p0303-p0305-p0273. Visit number1 also had codes; p0420-p0430 and p0170. The duplicate codes indicate the problem affects "bank 1 only. Code p0170 spells out the problem; "fuel trim malfunction-bank 1". The destroyed catalytic converters were the result of the fuel trim problem. The same for the leaking fuel injector. I believe it is only a matter of time before the other bank 1 injectors fail. The fuel trim must be a function of the vehicle's computer. I believe the "bank 1 fuel trim malfunction" and/or the electronic stabilization program (esp) and/or the vehicle's computer are the source of this dangerous problem. There is a recall on the esp; SC-044 - March, 2005. "the esp system may cause the engine to reduce power and may cause a braking action at one of the wheels". "brake application caused by inadvertent esp activation may result in loss of control and a crash". The front brake pads on my vehicle were worn out at 41,000 miles. I asked kia customer service in an initial letter if this was premature. Of course, I received no answer. After the number 5 incident(July, 2009) the engine would stall even after a leaking fuel injector and associated wiring were replaced. It stalled less than a mile from cronin and three times the next day. During the number 5 incident the esp shut itself off; "esp off" appeared in the instrument panel. I passed this information to jeff wyler kia service department. This was ignored. The final (number 6) attempt to repair the problem consisted of a joy ride after which they declared; "all operations are normal" they consider this problem amusing. They refused to contact kia!.
Abs and esc lights came on simultaneously. Right rear wheel locked up and started squealing. Very cold weather (10 degrees) outside. Happened when I was just starting out.
Vehicle has been to kia dealership 3 times for esc light staying on. First time they said it was ok, next 2 times the switch was replaced. Works for a while then malfunctions again. Esc light stays on, cruise will not work, and sometimes the brake lights will stay on. Vehicle now has 71000 miles and light is still on. After researching the web, located a recall on this similar problem, 09v130000 is the number. Called kia customer service and they said this VIN # is not in the recall, yet its the same exact complaint as the recall. Recall said it can lead to a crash. Any help would be appreciated.
The electronic stabilization control is intermittent. It goes off at various times . The dealer has looked at it but so far has not been able to fix it. There is a technical service bulletin for this.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 kia Sportage. The contact had to press the cruise control button and brakes multiples times for the cruise control to disengage. The problem recurred ten times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 10. Cs.
