Both driver & passenger-side rear seat belt assemblies are defective. Passenger-side seat belt has been inoperable since shortly after I bought it in 2005. Driver-side seat belt has had sporadic problems in the last six months & within the last week has been inoperable.

2 Rear Seat Belt problem of the 1999 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 12/01/2005

The contact has a kia Sportage 1999 and it has a seat belt problem. When the rear driver seat buckle is latched it does not lock or make a clicking sound during the buckling process. This problem occurred 2 months ago. The contact informed the local kia service dealer and was told the rear seat belts were not part of a recall and if they needed repair they would be happy to install new ones at his cost. When the dealer was informed the contact had the same problem with the front seat belt the dealer told the contact the front seat belts will be repaired at no cost. The contact would like the agency to conduct an investigation on the rear seat belts.

Failure Date: 08/20/2002

The contact stated the rear middle seat belt will not latch. The manufacturer informed him the rear seat belts were not included in the recall he received.

Windows lock and shake, driver's side door swings open, passenger door does not shut properly, back seat belts-only 1 works, driver's doesn't lock properly.

5 Rear Seat Belt problem of the 2001 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 04/01/2001

Consumer noticed that the rear passenger side and driver side seat belt webbing was corroded. Consumer drove the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the seat belts needed to be replaced, and replaced it. However, the problem recurred. Vehicle was taken back to the dealer for inspection numerous times, and determined that the seat belts needed to be replaced again.

Received recall 02 v 216 000 concerning front seat belts, but rear seat belt failed in this vehicle. Dealership was not replacing the rear seat belt under the recall remedy.
