Steering Problems of Kia Motor Sportage - part 2

This happened twice in 10 days. Once while driving and once in parking mode with vehicle on - suddenly the vehicle loses power, cannot accelerate, power steering is lost, and 3 panel lights turn on simultaneously: battery, oil, check engine. Both times by turning off and restarting engine I have been able to continue driving, power is restored and panel lights turn off. Have taken both times to kia service southside/jacksonville FL and they have not been able to identify the cause, therefore unable to fix a potentially very dangerous and life-threatening situation if this continues to happen, especially while driving. Extremely concerned!.

Recall no. 13v114 has still not been resolved. With no predicable frequency, my daughter's car will suddenly be difficult to shift out of park and the steering will become more difficult, the stability control light will illuminate, the cruise control will be inoperative, the anti-lock brakes will become inoperative, because the stop lamp switch connected to the brake pedal is malfunctioning. I believe this can be repaired by a replacement stop lamp switch, at least temporarily. I do not know if kia has an alternate switch available to install. It has been almost eight years since this recall started. Please put pressure on kia to resolve this problem. I want to get this problem fixed on my daughter's car but I'd rather not pay for it myself, but I want to get it repaired this year. Thank you!.

I got this vehicle back in August 2019. From the time I bought the vehicle passanger side window would only roll up from drivers side switch, wouldn't roll its down but will roll up and down from its door switch and the back drivers door window wouldn't roll up or down at all from either switch. Also my back hatch has been stuck in unlock, can hear it working like its locking it but it doesnt actually lock from the door or the glass. My driver side door also has issues with the power locks, it will work fine for a week or so and then stop working and I have to manually lock and unlock for a few weeks, can hear it like it's working only it doesnt, just like the hatch only the hatch has never worked. Also my cigarette lighter and front 12v outlet did not work. Checked all fuses, even changed good fuses with brand new fuses. Did not fix the problem so I have just dealt with it. Well things have only gotten worse. Shortly after my purchase I started having issues with squealing sounds coming from upfront and my power steering just going out when first starting the vehicle, when going slow to switch lanes, and going into turns or making turns. When the power steering goes out it's like the power to the engine also cuts out and when the squealing stop I feel the power come back. Also my cruise control only works when it wants to and I am constantly having my low tire pressure sensor go off. I somehow fee like as though this is all related? I have read many many complaints about my vehicle. Should've searched alittle better before purchasing. I somewhat feel like I am driving a death trap now. Would love some guidance and help with this situation. All these car fires, especially after being off for a long period of time is very scary. I have had a few people look at my vehicle and have pretty much all leaned towards tensioner pulley and serpentine belt now I wonder ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly #vpic#.

While driving the wheel blocks for a while and can't control the car. Brought to the dealers and claims nothing wrong. Now happens very often and the car is not drivable. Wrote 3 times to costumer service , no answer. Should a fatal accident must occurring to take action? this happens while turning.

All of the lights on my dashboard come on and when this happens it's generally night time. I can't drive my car with the headlights on because if I cut them on my car won't move and my rear view camera will not work. The first time this happened it was 05/18/2019. I was driving in the evening hours to pick my son up from work I noticed that the car started to slow down as I had my foot on the accelerator, I pulled the car to the side before it stopped and turned everything off. I waited a few minutes cut it back on and every light on the dashboard was on. I couldn't move my car I cut the headline off and it proceeded to move. However at that time of night I need lights. The next morning I took the car to berwyn kia in berwyn illinois and was told that a software update was needed, took 30 minutes and I was gone. A week or two later I was right back with exact same issue and was told it was a harness problem and hey would get it fixed. My car was here for a month. I picked my car up and 07/03/2019 it happened again and I have video footage for each incident. I called kia customer service and spoke with them and I am now being the car back again on 07/17/2019 because all of the issues have happened again!!.

The car hesitated or choked when accelerating to change lanes and a cloudy fume emitted from the rear. This has happened 5 times in the span of 2 weeks, both on freeway and surface streets. Several times came very close to getting rear ended.

The front passenger side wheel bearings started to wear. They were replaced and seized up while driving. A new wheel bearings was replaced and repaired. Again it seized up while driving. Car is being towed to shop for third repair. It was recommended I look up recall on car noticed there was one recall and 114 complaints for same issue for 2011-2014 Sportages.

Tl the contact owned a 2016 kia Sportage. While the contact's son was making a right turn at 5 mph, he lost control of the vehicle. The steering seized, which caused the vehicle to crash into a tree and burst into flames. It was unknown if the air bags deployed. The contact's son suffered a concussion and sought medical attention. A police report was filed. The fire department extinguished the fire. The vehicle was deemed totaled by the contact's insurance company. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The failure mileage and VIN were unknown.

This has been going on for 2 years and I have contacted and gone to dealership with no satisfaction. While driving in wet conditions, the steering wheel will lock up, battery light will come on, car sometimes stalls and there is a high pitch squeal near right front wheel. I have read and printed many reports from online complaints where customers are saying same thing happens to them. I also have video that I took this morning on the way to work to document what happens because trying to recreate the problem at a dealership by spraying water on it does not help. I showed a CO-worker the video this morning and he said for me to keep it because if something happens to me while driving in the rain, perhaps this will help the lawsuit. I reported this originally in 2017 but has occurred every time I drive in the rain. This morning was the most recent and I fear for my safety driving this car. Does someone need to get killed before anything gets addressed???.

My 17yr old son was driving the car when it started making a noise and wouldn't accelerate. He slowed down to pull over and the steering wheel didn't want to turn. He said it was heavy. We had the car towed home and checked out by a mechanic who stated it was rod bearings. I remembered a couple years ago getting a letter from NHTSA and kia mentioning they were investigating a problem with the engine. I looked up and it said no recalls on my car. The car has the exact same problem as the recall same year and everything. The car only has 106 thousand on it and has always received all scheduled maintenance. The mechanic said had my son kept driving the car the engine would have seized which could have caused a serious accident. My son was driving on a busy rural road with a lot of curves. We have a lot of oilfield trucks and traffic with vehicles that can't stop fast and had my son broke down on a curve or bottom of a hill he could have been seriously injured or worse. I think the recall needs to be investigated more. Kia said my vehicle was not included in the recall because my engine was manufactured in a different facility. My car has the exact problem as the recall same year model everything.

The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue and referred contact to the local dealer and NHTSA. The failure mileage was 16,000. Ap.

Tl the contact owns a 2009 kia Sportage. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated. The contact was informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the clock spring needed to be replaced. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 122,000.

The steering wheel control is not working properly especially under 60 mph. I believe it has a problem that comes from the factory settings. I also have seen that many 2011 kia Sportage owners have the same issue which is very dangerous because it becomes very hard to keep the car in the line.

On sept 3 2017 I was invloved in an accident in which my driver side air bag deployed leaving me with severe bruises on abdoman and burn marks on my left forearm. I went to hopspital and had an ultrasound done. Our car was totalled and wanted to make sure that I am going to not have any further medical issues I have police reports and medical report to back this up dave church.

The car slightly veered to the left, at first. I brought it up to the sales person during the drive. There was also a slight burning smell when I drove the car home in the evening from the dealer. I brought it back the next day to have it checked out, and the service manager said that he could not find anything. One of the sales' people stated that some new cars have smells in the beginning and to run the air through the car.

While driving , especially on the highway, the vehicle veers slightly to left or right and takes constant corrections to keep it driving straight. The steering requires constant over corrections and the steering also feels very loose. It feels like driving on ice. I brought it to the dealer and the alignment and other factors have been checked and they say there is nothing per say wrong with the car.

I own a 2007 kia Sportage lx with 6,0259 miles on it. I purchased this vehicle used with warranty, but of course that has expired. When driving in wet road conditions, through rain and over puddles of water my battery light will come on and the power steering will lock. I strongly believe that this is a defect in the vehicle and not due to regular 'wear and tear. ' I have read other reports of owners of this same make/model vehicle that have also had the same issues. I am scared to drive the vehicle during a rain storm, worrying that the car is going to stall and leave me stranded.

I have been having the same problem as others. It has been a sporadic problem for about four months. It's almost like the power steering goes completely out and you are almost unable to turn the wheel. However, when you push on the accelerator the steering releases. This makes it very difficult if not impossible to keep the vehicle in the proper lane when it occurs. This is a safety hazard that needs to be investigated before it cause an accident.

Driving on minimally wet road, water is splashing into engine, light comes on engine stalls no steering. This has occurred on residential street, highway street, driving straight, accelerating from a complete stop, turning left or right. Called dealership from where car was purchased (four months ago) service manager unresponsive. Having a different dealership look at car, will try to re-create issue.

I was driving on the MA pike near boston at approximately 65 mph in the middle lane. I had a need to turn into the breakdown lane. I turned on my right turn signal and started to enter the right lane and for some unexplained reason the vehicle started swerving back to the left (like it was self correcting)! I tried again to enter the right lane and again the vehicle swerved to the left. I was in moderate traffic, it was difficult to get to the right lane, cars behind me were blowing their horns and I was afraid of a possible roll-over! the vehicle was taken to the kia dealership on 16 April 2015 for evaluation and I was told all the "codes" checked out fine and they could not find anything wrong. The service advisor mentioned to me that some models come with a lane monitoring system, and the way he described how it worked was exactly what I had experienced! my vehicle did not have that feature because the service advisor stated a camera would have been mounted near the rear view mirror. One of my concerns is the possibility that the software for this system is imbedded in my vehicle and is intermittently triggering. Frankly, I am afraid to drive this vehicle at the present time, and I am surprised the dealership did not retain the vehicle for further intensive evaluation my wife had the same experience twice. The first at the beginning of March and and the second at the middle of March traveling between 55 and 60 mph.

The same complaint others have had, slow speed turn and you loose the ability to steer. It's almost like the car quits, but it is still running when it happens. This situation has been going on for a while and needs to be addressed.

This car is unable to maintain a straight trajectory under perfect road conditions or any other road conditions. It tends to go to the right, and I believe this is a significant safety hazard. I am also concerned about too much "play" in the steering. The play provides a significant angle of uncertainty in the trajectory.

The vehicle was taken to bob king kia (1725 link rd, winston-salem, nc 27103 (336) 724-3866) where the failure was unable to be duplicated. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000. The VIN was unavailable.

At approximately 5:30am, I was driving down the freeway. My kia Sportage suddenly made a loud bang, and the engine stalled. It also shut off the headlights, and disabled the power steering, while on a curve, going 70mph. The power assisted brakes were also not working, because the engine shut down. I managed to pull the vehicle over without incident, but was almost hit by several vehicles that could no longer see me, because my lights were off. The engine would not start up again, and I had to have the vehicle towed home. This is the 3rd time this vehicle has done this, and kia refuses to repair the vehicle.

After numerour occurances I discovered that the only way to get the steering to go back to normal is to remove the my foot from the brake and push on the accelerator. Because of this steering issue, I had my vehicle towed to the closest kia dealer which is about 250 miles. The vehicle has been at the dealer for 3 weeks now, they say they can not duplicate the situation so they can't do anything.

For example, if a heater core breaks and does not heat, that is a maintenance problem. However, if it breaks and an unexpected driver gets hurt, and compounded, loses control of the vehicle, and moreover, has to put his foot back onto the accelerator pedal to control the car in a hot-liquid stream, this is an unacceptable safety condition due to failure to safely contain hot liquids.
