Other brake lines look like they may fail in near future. (5) steel portion of power steering line rusted out and blew fluid everywhere preventing the ability to turn the wheel while driving. Since buying this car 12/26/10 I have had a number of sensors and switches malfunction and needing replacement. Warning lights coming on and going off and dealer could not pull up codes to why they came on. I had problems where the car would not start. I'm having steering and suspension problems right now. Waiting on kia engineers to come inspect the car since dealer can't find or fix the problem. Car tends pulls to one side. Since brakes were replaced the car is hard to stop. I have had issues with the gps. Gas gage sticking. The car at time hesitates when trying to get up to speed to get on the freeway, like it has no power. Right now I don't feel safe driving my car. The front end just feels unstable. All work done on my car is done thru the dealer. It seems my car is back at the dealer for one repair or another several times a year. Sometimes days at a time. Longest its been in the shop was 9 days. I was not expecting this many issues with a new car.

Stabilizer connected to the chasis rotted from the frame and the brakes stopped working because where the brake line was connected to the frame was rotted. Brought the car to an independent mechanic to find this out. Cannot drive the vehicle in current condition as it is extremely unsafe. I was lucky I wasn't going fast and was able to get the car off the road. People should be notified to have this checked immediately, it could save someone's life.
As my wife was driving home from work she noticed the rear of the SUV was swaying upon further inspection of myself and an auto mechanic we found a crack in the rt rear frame the mechanic told us to park it and contact kia. Told by kia as this car was now over 100,000 miles that it was no longer covered and there was nothing that could be done or it . Well we welded on a few pieces of steel and it lasted only another 3 months and it started again this time we checked and found that the frame was rotted from the passenger door to the back end of the vehicle you could put your finger thru it car is now parked and wont be driven again. Kia will do nothing about this. I went to the bone yard to see if they had a frame and the 7 kias that I checked all had the same problem if I were you and I owned a kia I would check this out before I drove another mile.
My wife was driving on I-80 when the vehicle swayed very badly and almost hit a another vehicle. She immediately slowed and exited the highway. Upon inspection the frame severed and broke where the suspension attaches to the frame right behind the rear tire on the passenger side of the vehicle. This vehicle is a death trap. . . The mechanic and my insurance adjusted said my wife must have an angel watching over her.

I purchased a leftover new 1998 Sportage 4x4 on 4/12/99. The vehicle was manufactured on 3/31/98. I brought my vehicle for autobody repairs on Thursday 5/13/99 with 592 miles on it. When I picked up my vehicle on moday 5/17/99 with 594 miles on it the lifters were making a horrible tapping noise. I was informed by the service manager that the noise was due to the vehicle being in storage for over a year and when purchased by myself that a new oil filter and oil change should have been done. After numerous attempts I finally got him to put it in writing and I now have the document as proof. My question is how does a lifter go bad at 594 miles and why didn't a large company such as kia have the insight to provide better customer service upon purchase of a vehicle. I have acessed your complaint files for the 1998 Sportage and it printed 21 pages. Can all those consumers be wrong? I do not think so, I feel my SUV is on its way to being the lemon that attacked new york. If I was advised of your website prior to my purchase I would have definitely looked to other auto makers. Thank you for your informative site, but I feel that this problem is just the beginning!!!( dot number: ).
Consumer took vehicle to dealer who informed her there were no recalls, however consumer later found there was a recall, 99v325, dealer would not complete repairs due to vehicle not being purchased there. While traveling 55 mph or less vehicle swayed left to right even with different wind current. Please provide further information.
This vehicle can be difficult to control in high winds and requires constant vigilance against wind gusts. I have driven and owned other small vehicles that were not so seriously affected by wind.
Vibrations of the steering wheel at 45 to 50 mph.
