Service brakes, hydraulic. Under normal braking abs is activated when applying brakes and causes brakes vibrate/pulse and make it extremely difficult to stop requiring pumping of brake pedal. Happens most frequently at low speeds when turning a corner, out of a driveway when very likely to his pedestrians or oncoming traffic when unabe to break. At higher speeds up to 25-30 mph the same situation arises but you generally have more time and distance to recover. Otherwise breaks work most of the time, which makes this glitch so frustrating and seemingly unrelated to break pad or wear and tear issues, as substantiated by similar NHTSA complaint #s: 882300, 8011620, 10028658, 10024539, 10110112.

The first issue is about a seat fire. My husband was just pulling into our drive when the drivers seat heater burned a hole in the left side of the seat causing him to have a burn. The second problem is the oil pump. I heard a noise coming from the engine, and asked our mechanic what might have been the cause of the noise. He said the the oil pump was bad and we will have to replace the oil pump and if there was damage to the engine would have to replace that too. I understand that there was a technical alert dated March 14, 2003, just three months after I purchased my car. A class action suit was started in may 2003 but I was not informed of the suit. I called Land Rover of America and was told I was the only Land Rover owner to have a fire in the seat, which I found was untrue then I called them back when the oil pump went and said that my car was out of warrantyand was too old for Land Rover to do anything for me. The car has about 100,000 miles on it. We lived in juneau at the time and there are few roads. We were there until 2007 when we moved to montana. I am tired of excuses from the manufacturer. I paid almost $40,000dollars for the car that should last me a long time. It was to be my retirement car. Other people have had the same problems that I have experianced to no avail.

Was moving very slowly - in a parking garage. Began pulling into a space and applied brakes. Engine revved (throttle opened?) and accelerated by itself a few feet in to a wall. Given that it was only a few feet and a large cement wall, no major damage. My foot was firmly on the brake, the brakes were squealing and there were witnesses and probably video given that it is a parking garage. Burning brake smell also very apparent. I work in insurance and know of this sort of claim. I did not move my foot, opened the door and looked, foot firmly on the brake. Floor mat was not a factor.
Oil leak on engine, oil pan leak, water pump leak, no power on engine it lost the power from over heating, machanic wants to replace engine I was quoted 3700 dollars. How can I know if this engine was a difect.

I have 2003 Land Rover, Discovery car that requires constant replacement of the navigation system and its radio/cd player. This is my fifth replacement since the purchase of the car. In addition to this, the engine oil constantly leaks. . . Took it in for repair numerous times but the problem continues. The engine light is always on. . . . Took it in a few times and the dealership repair center said it was an electrical sensor problem. The brake and abs lights would come on and go away on its own. Since March 2010, the brake and abs lights decided to stay lit. Will take it in for vehicle inspection at the dealership. Just yesterday, all my passenger windows can not be moved up or down with the window controller. A similar problem was reported to the manufacture numerous times on both the driver and the passenger windows. They were replaced each time it was taken in. This is a lemon car and I should have had it reported back in 2003 when I first purchased the vehicle.
Abs, traction control light and hill descent light stays on. The abs brakes are not working. The dealer told me that my brake fluid was not changed according to recommended warranty standards. I've done some research and found that others who own this vehicle have also had abs module malfunctions or defects.
The contact owns a 2000 Land Rover Discovery. The contact stated that the traction control, hill descent control, and abs warning lights remain illuminated. The dealer stated that the air sensor assembly needed to be replaced and they made the replacement. Approximately one month later, the lights illuminated again. The dealer stated that the vehicle needed new brake pads and they made the repair. Approximately two weeks later, the failure recurred. The dealer stated that the front wheel sensor needed to be replaced. As of July 2, 2007, the vehicle has not been repaired. The VIN and engine size were unknown. The current mileage is 70,000 and failure mileage was 60,000.

At higher speeds, above 55 mph, engine would intermittently misfire and return to normal in unpredictable sequences. Loss of power and inability to accelerate, especially on hills, the worst consequence. Charlotte dealer said it could be a sticky exhaust valve, offered $2900 to perform an exhaust valve job. I declined and decided to take the cylinder heads off myself and take them to a machine shop were they could clean out and re-grind the valves for about $500. Machine shop said there was no signs of sticking valves but I didn't mind since I got to play around and take the engine apart. The engine ran great afterwards but this didn't fix the problem. Finally took car to an english car specialist in raleigh, nc. They determined it was a speed sensing transmitter. This device tells the car's computer how fast the car is moving. While driving 60 mph, it was getting a signal of 130 mph. Thinking it was moving too fast, the car will automatically misfire in an effort to slow it down. They replaced the speed sensor (for $120) and the problem was fixed. This is a common problem for older lrs and the dealers should know this. They use it as an opportunity to charge for a much more expensive valve job.
