37 Equipment problem of the 2014 Land Rover Range Rover

Failure Date: 10/30/2015

My vehicle was traveling at 40mph at a straight path on city roads with no obstacles or detour when at an instant the vehicle's drive mode logo on the shift knob began to blink continuously followed by system error code warnings flashing on the entertainment screen and driver screen and full loss of vehicle control. With complete shut down including loss of all electronics electrical power and engine failure thereafter causing the electronic emergency brakes to activate and locking the wheels. At which time the vehicle came to a violent and sudden stop resulting in a load grinding noise coming off the engine bay. The vehicle was unable to start due to no return of any electrical power to the systems electronics including exterior and interior lights. I waited for about 15 minutes before trying to start the vehicle, which took a few tries before power and vehicle engine engaged only to have the same complete vehicle failure and shut down repeated only after 200 yards from the initial failure resulting in tow service having to be called out. Keep in mind this is not the first nor the second recurrence, it has been an ongoing issue for the past few months only to be told that the problem was diagnose and corrected by an authorized Land Rover dealer. Which is far from the truth in regards to the health and safety of this vehicle. To date the cause of continued failure is unknown.

38 Equipment problem of the 2013 Land Rover Range Rover

Failure Date: 08/03/2015

Aug 3, 2015 car dial shifter put in park, stopped on my 10% grade driveway. Car was on! left to check mail box with door open, noticed car was moving very slow. Went back to car tried to reach brake, leg was caught in car and speed picked up evidently in reverse, fell on back, car door rolled over me with legs over head. Snapped 5 hamstring tendons, 2 avulsion fractures. I had reported on this site. Never heard back. Now Jeep has a recall on the same type of computerized gear shifter. On consumer affairs there is another rangerover evoque reported going into reverse (before mine did)when in park with running and door open. Driver went back to get car and it was up street in reverse against mailbox.

39 Equipment problem of the 2015 Land Rover Range Rover

Failure Date: 04/07/2015

I was stopped at a light and when I went to go the car would not go into drive - it would only roll backwards. I rolled backwards into another car. After the accident my car would also not go into park. I had to stay in the car with my foot on the brake until the police and tow truck arrived. Land rover said they were aware of the problem and applied a software patch to the vehicle to correct the problem with the electronic transmission. I feel that this is a potentially fatal condition that should warrant a mandatory recall. Land rover does not feel that consumers should be notified, and the software patch should only be applied on a case by case basis.

40 Equipment problem of the 2006 Land Rover Range Rover

Failure Date: 02/10/2015

After my 2006 Range Rover sport hse I purchased arrived from another state, I decided to drive it to the gas station to fill up which was less than a mile away. As I approached the my destination I turned on my right turn signal to merge into the exit lane and my vehicle came to an abrupt stop. I immediately put the vehicle into park and called the dealer in which I bought it from. They asked if I pushed the parking brake or changed the driving mode. They asked me to turn the vehicle off and back on to see if it would reset itself, but it didn't move. After all options failed, I was instructed by the dealer to get it towed to the nearest Range Rover repair shop. While the vehicle was being remove from the tow truck, the driver said it looks like your front end seized as he noticed the front tires were not turning. I am lucky and blessed that I was not going faster or that anyone was behind me while traveling 25 mph which I feel would have been an accident sure to happen. My heart still races when I think of my situation and what could have happen. I am currently waiting word from the dealer of what caused this problem.

42 Equipment problem of the 2014 Land Rover Range Rover

Failure Date: 11/25/2014

I purchased my new veh in may of 2014. From that time until November, my veh drove/shifted smooth. I took my veh in for its 1st service on Nov. 25th, 2014 and at that time they performed a tcm software update. Since leaving with my veh, I noticed it drove completely different. It shifted hard, clunked into gear & no longer drives like a premium, new vehicle. I advised my service advisor scott a few days later. At that time he scheduled an apt to bring in & check it out. I arrived for my apt on Dec 16th, had the service advisor drive with me so I could show him what I was experiencing. The next day I received a phone call that my veh was "ready to be picked up". I asked "does that mean it is fixed?" he replied, "at this time, we & Land Rover are aware of your concern, but unfortunately, there is no remedy/fix at this time. " they told me they would contact me when there was a known fix/repair. I picked my veh up, & since then, it drives even worse. I explained to the service dept that even though they say it is "safe to drive", that I do no feel safe driving it. In the mornings, the shifts are so violent that I feel like I am doing further damage to my drivetrain/suspension components. I have reached out to Land Rover north America (rep: matt: 800. 452. 4827 ext. 1309020) several times, he states the same thing, "Land Rover is aware of the transmission problem, but there is no known fix at this time". In my opinion, this vehicle is classified as a "lemon" because I cannot operate it with my children in the car & feel safe, & the dealership/car manufacturer does not have a remedy/fix nor can they tell me when it will be available. (I have been dealing with this issue now for almost 2 months & think the time frame I have been patiently waiting for is more than reasonable, which is why I am proceeding now with further action). Thank you for your time!.

43 Equipment problem of the 2004 Land Rover Range Rover

Failure Date: 07/17/2014

Steering column failure, the wheel dropped onto my lap as I was driving. Almost lost control. Very scary, I had to hold wheel up which has full range of un/down motion, while trying to get to the side of the road. There was a failure of the steering wheel tilt mechanism. I disconnected the wheel tilt drive motor and rigged the wheel so it could be driven home.

44 Equipment problem of the 2003 Land Rover Range Rover

Failure Date: 10/07/2013

In October 2013 while I took my car to a private garage for oil change. The mechanic noticed that the frame on my vehicle was rotted out . He called me into the garage and showed me the problem. I immediately called the Land Rover dealership were the car was purchased new and they have been doing the service on the vehicle since it was new . I informed the service manager of the issue and I questioned the fact that no one at the dealership ever mentioned the rust issue on my vehicle. The service manager asked me to drive up to the dealership so they can take a look at it. Once at the dealership the service manager put up the car on the lift and was shocked to see how bad things were. He took pictures of the frame and contacted Land Rover main office and sent them the pictures. Land rover main office contacted me and told me that they have never seen anything like this before but they made the decision not to cover fixing the problem although it is a safety issue . My concern is that one day this car is going to break in half and a major accident would occur because of it. I really need your help.

45 Equipment problem of the 2006 Land Rover Range Rover

Failure Date: 08/30/2013

The differential failed on my Range Rover is making loud humming sounds.

46 Equipment problem of the 2005 Land Rover Range Rover

Failure Date: 09/01/2012

The rear passenger doors periodically lock and will not unlock nor open either by remote, interior console button, nor by interior door handles. Passengers must enter and exist via the front seat climbing to, or from, the back. The problem is unexpected and sporadic, may last a few hours or a few days, have had problem on my car since purchased two years ago. Problem relates to computer controlled locking system and not child controls, once the rear passenger doors are locked (which may happen automatically), they will not unlock and interior door latch handles will also not allow opening of doors, for practical purposes same as having rear doors welded shut with no way to open. Other owners report same problem as common on owner forums. Problem is dangerous in case of an accident since rear passengers can not open doors to exit vehicle.

47 Equipment problem of the 2000 Land Rover Range Rover

Failure Date: 08/25/2011

I was driving at ~10-15 mph around lake mead in nv. As I pulled to a stop sign smoke began to come from under the hood of the car. At first I thought the car was overheating and tried to navigate it to the side of the road. All the cars systems went out before I got it off the road (30 seconds from the first smoke) and the smoke was billowing out from under the hood. I jumped out and tried to open the hood, still thinking it was overheating, but I was unable to find the catch. I decided to move away from the car just in case. I walked about 10 paces away from the car and turned to see fire dripping down from the front. I decided to call 911. The front of the car was engulfed in flames before I could dial. By the time the 911 operator picked up the car was engulfed up to the middle of the body and the tires began exploding (this could be heard by the 911 operator). By the time I got off the phone the car was completely engulfed (this was less than 3 min from seeing the first smoke). The car burned completely, leaving no trace of anything but the metal frame. What is most disturbing is that the body/interior burned as if they had been doused with an incendiary. They went up so fast and shouldn't be flammable at all. Just to emphasize this, I was hauling a sm trailer that had a canvas cover and the tarp was only scorched at the front; not burning at all. I found many other fires of this Range Rover just like mine reported on the internet. I am fairly certain that these fires are caused by a very flammable hood liner and that these cars are extremely dangerous. When I bought my Range Rover used I had noticed that the hood liner was burned where it was closest to the top of the engine and it seemed to be caused by the engine heat, but I hadn't ruled out human action. I was considering tearing the liner out when my car burned up (I had not owned the car long).
