The contact owns a 2016 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The contact stated while parked at the gas station, the fuel gauge became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the fuel sending unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that recalls were VIN-specific and offered no assistance. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 18v337000 (fuel system, gasoline, electrical system); however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was 120,311.

I took my range rover in for a coolant leak, was told there was a recall on a battery system, the recall was a software update to prevent that battery system from going offline. The system was already offline, and Land Rover north America refuses to honor the intent of the recall, and is refusing to cover the cost to replace that battery system. It only seems logical that if a recall is to prevent an issue from occurring yet the issue has already occurred, they should cover the cost to fix it. Notes form dealer below: recall - perform open recall # labor $0. 00 1. Unable to perform recall # n861 at this time due to becm being off line. Becm requires replacement beforerecall can be performed.

Trim electrical - upon dealer service inspection, technician found the air bag light on. Dtcs code b0020-13 left side airbag deployment control circuit open due to the wiring harness routed under the driver's seat becoming chafed as a result of the automatic seat adjustment resulting in a nondeployment or late deployment of airbag. Dealer recommended replacement of the wiring harness. This is a defective design - this is a stock vehicle with 63k miles and normal use of moving the electronic driver's seat forward or back should not interfere with an airbag's performance.
Land rover has been made aware through several complaints that there is a widespread issue with their vehicles that requires recall. Thousands of customers have reported issues in their vehicles with cylinder 4 cracked pistons resulting in engine failure. Land rover refuses to address the issue in their vehicles causing this malfunction and costly vehicle repair. Land rover needs to issue a recall to address and rectify this issue in their vehicles as this issue results in the vehicle losing speed and coming to a complete halt with no warning from the vehicle. This could result in death of multiple people and cause crashes. It is highly dangerous and needs to be addressed by Land Rover with urgency.

My vehicle as well received an electric fault message shortly before loosing all electrical power. When I say all I mean all as if someone removed the battery from the car. The issue that was described to me from the service department was the low voltage (12v) to high voltage (48v) I think DC to DC converter shorted out. They said this was the first device after the battery and contained all the battery saftey circuits. It allowed the lifo battery to reach zero volts and they didn't replace the battery afterwards. When this happened I lost all power steering, lights, ability to use the roadside assistance.

The infotainment system system that controls the ac radio defrost heated seats, settings, driveability settings does not turn on. This is my wifes car and she has to drive sometimes with no defrost while its raining and not ac/heat control while the weather is cold or super hot in la. The problem has been diagnosed by the dealer and there has been a recall issued for this specific recall, just not for my VIN number. So Land Rover corporate refuses to fix it or provide any financial help. The car has 45,000miles and we are the original owner. I believe our VIN should also be included in the recall of the land over sport infotainment system. I believe our model was not included because it was a diesel and not many Range Rover Sport diesels are in the states,.
I was driving my 2015 Range Rover Sport, when a low battery symbol displayed on the dashboard. I drove 3 miles away to go to autozone to buy a new battery and as I parked the vehicle, I noticed smoke coming from the hood of the vehicle. My brother and I ran inside of autozone and asked them if they had a fire extinguisher because my car had a little fire on the driver’s side of the engine. I got aaa to tow my vehicle into the Land Rover dealership/maintenance repair shop. The repair specialist I’m assigned to (sam haidary) at the Land Rover location in freeport, long island NY, told me that the fire issue with the vehicle didn’t come from the alternator or the weak battery, so I did some research online because I personally know someone that went through this same issue (I. E. Range rover sport catching on fire with no warning) as I just went through. I came across this article that’s addressing the same exact issue (the engine catching fire) that happened to my 2015 Range Rover Sport. . Read more...

Less than 2 hours before my car completely shut down while driving, I received an error message stating "stop safely. Electrical fault detected. " I immediately reached out to the service department who told they didn't think the car would have any additional issues and that I should bring it to the shop on Monday (the incident happened on Saturday). While driving down an entrance ramp to a major highway, my car shut completely off leaving me with no steering, brakes, emergency brakes, hazards or anything--completely dead to the point where absolutely nothing worked. I had to do my best to steer a dead car down an entrance ramp and onto a grassy area on the side of the highway as to avoid being hit by another vehicle or crashing into a vehicle or tree. The safety of myself and my family was put at risk because the car completely shut down leaving no emergency equipment for me to use. I had cars behind me, in front of me, and beside me on a busy highway with a speed limit of 70 mph. I was also going down a ramp with no brakes. At first I thought it was the battery as did the dealership, then they suspected the generator, then they said it was the converter. They were able to produce the same problem after the generator was replaced and the car only ran for 15 minutes. Unfortunately we sold the car within 2 weeks of the incident because we no longer felt safe, and the manufacturer has been replacing one part at a time with the most important part being on back order with no indication of when it will arrive.
On your database for car safety my old 2006 Land Rover Range Rover Sport supercharged isn't on there for a recall so when I took it to the dealer he said there are no recalls well I submitted the number for the 2006 Land Rover range rover excluding my VIN number this time and using the national database that you guys provided and found out that it has seven recalls and the guy at range rover dealership would not take care of it for me I am having a problem because they cannot be identified on your website but when you put in the code for the recall it comes up what am I to do?.

While driving on the freeway a low coolant notification came on. Minutes later we saw what we believed to be our engine in smoke. We made it to the side of the highway before the car became engulfed in steam. Car was towed to Land Rover rancho mirage. It was found that lower front coolant manifold had failed what caused the sudden release of steam. This caused engine to overheat and allow coolant to enter the lubrication jacket causing the oil to become contaminated resulting in full engine damage. The person we spoke with knew pretty quickly what happened. Online research shows this is a known problem with Land Rover Range Rover Sport and it has not been recalled. We were quoted 30k to replace engine. We got it replaced outside of dealership for 20k. This is a serious safety issue. I have videos of damage I can send in an email, it will not let me upload.

I had a 64,000 mile tune up on my vehicle upon picking up the car the tech mentioned I may want to replace start/stop switch as it “felt funny upon reprogramming the vehicle” I was given a written estimate and sent on my way in the vehicle. Driving on the highway 66mph heard a ding looked at dash to see a “start/stop switch fail” warning and the car went completely dead I had no blinker no hazards nothing thankfully I was in travel lane and there was a breakdown lane available to move into. My children and I were almost killed. Dealership claims they’ve never heard of this issue. I had never encountered any issues like this prior.
The backup camera fails to display any image on the screen, significantly impacting my visibility while reversing. This issue occurred unexpectedly. Upon contacting the dealer, I was informed there is an active recall (24v023) related to this problem, but my VIN is not included. I believe my vehicle is also affected by the same recall. For reference, Land Rover’s internal recall number for this issue is n778.
My family and I were driving home in my 2018 Range Rover Sport, which I purchased in 2019 from Land Rover of sudbury (massachusetts). A brief “coolant level low” warning flashed on the dashboard for less than a minute, then promptly went away and never flashed or displayed again. Minutes later, the car started shaking, forcing us to pull over onto the side of the massachusetts turnpike. The engine then immediately began smoking. The temperature gauge never went above the midpoint level, so we were quite confused about what the problem was. We had the car towed directly to Land Rover of sudbury. They informed me that the engine needed to be replaced. I find it unacceptable, and most importantly, unsafe, that the car would go from a “coolant level low” warning that lasted mere seconds before disappearing, to zero coolant and a catastrophic engine failure minutes later while driving on the massachusetts turnpike. This all happened only a few months after the vehicle had ostensibly been deemed to be in suitable repair by Land Rover of sudbury upon my re-taking possession of it following 6+ months in their service shop. I still have not received any answer whatsoever from the dealership as to what went wrong with my vehicle. I have serious concerns that this could be evidence of a more pervasive issue that could potentially affect other vehicles that are currently on the road. I also question whether the service performed to the vehicle at Land Rover of sudbury in 2023 was the cause of the issue. I question the sensors in the vehicle, as well as the communication to the dashboard, and I would like this fully investigated. Why would the coolant level low warning have gone off so quickly after it came on if there was no coolant? why would the temperature gauge on the dashboard not have elevated if the car was overheating? all of these questions lead me to the belief that something was wrong with the vehicle beyond what has been conveyed to me so far.
The car had a warning light in December “stop safely electrical fault detected” Land Rover dealership told me nothing was wrong, except I don’t drive enough & the battery was low. Eventually, the warning went away. This week, the warning light was back, along with additional warnings. The car literally shut down & quit working while it was running. I was sitting in a drive-through. I could not put it in park or drive. Extremely dangerous!!! I had to tow it to the dealership. Again we were told that I don’t drive the car enough. I’ve had it for 5 months and it only has 3000 miles. We refused to accept that as an answer. Eventually, they said there was an update needed. I still do not feel this car is safe.
There are known areas around the a pillar, windshield, and sunroof that leak and allow water to enter the vehicle and pool up in the wiring channels next to the doors, the water causes shorts and corrosion in the wiring which causes faults (check engine, etc) that the owner is forced to attempt to correct on their own. There are numerous videos made by Land Rover owners over the last 15 years showing the common areas where water enters the vehicle. The average owner is not mechanical inclined and will not pull apart their vehicle to search for places where water is entering. Land rover knows about this issue and does nothing but charge their customers many hours of labor at the dealership to investigate. The water damage to the wiring has and will cause issues with the vehicle that the average person will or must go to the dealership to attempt a repair.

When ever playing music through loud or soft volumes I can hear a static sound coming from all speakers. The static like noise can be heard more your phone is connected through usb through apple/android car play on both usb connector ports. When using just bluetooth its not as noticeable but can sometimes still hear it. When using just the radio am/fm setting its not as present but you will get a little static noise. Note my rrs has the 825 watt meridian sound system so when adjusting the bass, treble or sub the static can still be present even at different volumes. Note the cables to the usb have been changed and are new when trying to see if its the phone cable or not but still the noise is present. I am just wondering if it may entail to a software update that is needed on the vehicle.

Sadly, I have to report that I have not had my truck for more than 2 weeks and I had to already bring it to the dealerships for diagnostic evaluation for an electrical fault detection message. As per the service department the vehicle needs a new alternator. Hence, needing an alternator replacement when the vehicle has less than 200 miles is of great concern for the safety of my family and myself because this may have resulted from a manufacturer's safety-related defect? or problem. I am hoping nothing major goes wrong with the vehicle after this initial repair other than regular maintenance and regular usage repairs. Needless to say, I am very disappointed and rethinking my automotive purchase. In addition, this is a great inconvenience to me. The vehicle currently at dealership for alternator part replacement.
Screen that displays radio and back up camera has crashed several times when using back up camera. All black screen would not project rear view camera when in reverse.

Car burned down started smoking from engine as I was driving on turnpike towards orlando, FL.
Hill decent control error, stability control not available error, and charging system fault detected error while driving. As a result, no breaks while driving.
I was driving the car on March 11th 2022, at around 10pm when the car suddenly lost power, while driving in a rural area of interstate 5 in northern California when the vehicle lost power, I was unable to see anything at all and had to pull to the shoulder unsure of what was on the shoulder. Dash display stated "headlight detected" and the vehicle shut off. Everything was off including, power, lights, engine, and the vehicle was unresponsive for 30 minutes. After about 30 minutes, the car started up and I decided to drive it. Furthermore, after about 1. 5 miles the issue repeated and the car shut off again. Car was off for about 5 minutes, at this point I decided not to drive the car as I felt it was dangerous. The night of March 11th, the vehicle was towed to the nearest Land Rover/range rover dealership and was diagnosed on Monday the 14th. The dealership diagnosed the vehicle with a defective battery. The battery was replaced and I was assured that the technician was certain the issue is resolved, and they have experienced it with other Range Rover Sports in the past year. I picked up the vehicle on March 16, 2022. Today, March 19, 2022, while driving the vehicle around 1pm the vehicle, the dashboard displayed “headlight fault detected” and the vehicle was once again shut off, including all the electronics. I do not consider this incident to be as dangerous as it was during daylight and near my house. However, the earlier incidents were very hazardous as it occurred at night, with no vehicle lighting or street lighting in an unfamiliar area. I am not confident driving this vehicle at all, as it could lose power at any moment. Thankfully in this time, the vehicle was in a safe area, but this incident could certainly have happened in the middle of a turn, in an area with no shoulder, or in a construction zone. All of which would dramatically increase the risk of significant injury.

The back rear door keeps causing the alarm to malfunction and go off. Also, as I was driving on the main road the back door came open on a passenger seated in the back. This was a major scare & could’ve been very deadly if my passenger didn’t have their seat belt on.
I can be driving and the car will just cut off. The real danger was when I was on the freeway and I almost couldn't pull over to the side and a semi truck was behind me. That happened about 3 years ago. Also when I start the car and put it in reverse the parking brake warning light come on, that also started happening a couple years ago. The above happened again yesterday and the day before, October 9, 2021.
Passenger right front door will not latch shut.
Malfunction with sos system police have been notified multiple times while I was driving and police have come to my home 4 times in 3 days unable to communicate with sos system to notify that I am not in distress. If I end up actually needing help I can not use the sos which concerns me.
While I am in intersections driving, the car completely shuts off and I have to start the car back up for it to actually drive. It completely turns off while you’re driving. I have had several electrical issues with the car that have also been repaired. I’ve brought the car into the dealer service center over seven times and they have not been able to reproduce the issue of shutting off. I have installed a dash cam to record when it happens randomly. I reported to Land Rover corporate and they have not done anything over 8 months with this issue. I have two daughters and I’m concerned about getting into an accident with this car shutting off randomly. This has been occurring since I purchased the car in October 2020. Please help.
Car jumped forward while coming to a stop. Almost hit a child crossing in the crosswalk. Also happened numerous times coming to a stop at the off ramp. Engine idles very rough, high pitch idle, and rpms surge up and down on their own. Dealer won’t believe us. They don’t want to use resources to fix what is covered by warranty. This car is a danger to drive. Has also stalled unexpectedly. Dealer only looks for software update and warning lights. We’ve never had a warning light and updates do absolutely nothing. Forums show others are experiencing the same thing. Dealer said they cannot spend that amount of time to find the problem. This is a liability and major safety issue that range rover needs to be addressed. Car has 9000 miles. Car shutters and bounces. Rpms unpredictable and car has idling issues. Please help -we don’t want to hit someone because the car unexpectedly lunges forward.
Hit a car that pulled out in front of me at about 20mph and the airbags did not deploy and the sos button did not activate. Then I pushed it manually and it failed to make a call until 20 mins later after the police arrived. Vehicle was in motion in the city when looking at some other range rovers at the collision center it seemed like the airbags were not as sensitive as they should be.
I have had over 8 instances with either the lower screen, upper screen or both screens completely blacking out and being inoperable. Landrover has had 4 attempts to fix it unsuccessfully with landrover corporate involved. In addition, the side view mirrors dip down in reverse and did not correctly reset their position once in drive so I had zero visibility in drive in either side view mirrors. The screen issues has occurred on city streets and on the highway. The side view mirrors occurred on city streets. In addition I lose all control when the screens black out to control the climate, thermostat temperature, driver modes, rock crawl mode, and more. I sent Land Rover corp over 2 dozen pictures and videos documenting each time it occurred. The first issue happened in January 3 weeks after buying the car and they've continued throughout February and now are still continuing into March. I filed a complaint with corporate asking for a corporate by back under the lemon law which was denied. I paid 97,000 for this vehicle and the only thing they offered was one months free finance payment of $993. The car is not safe to drive!.
All the screens (3) within the car as subject to freezing, or complete failure. This includes the main speedometer screen, the climate control screen, the entertainment screen, the bluetooth function, the lane change assistance within the rear view mirrors. This issue is prevalent in all range rovers, Range Rover Sports and velars, and there are multiple forums on the internet about the issue. It has existed for over 2 years yet Land Rover continue to sell the cars without disclosing the issue to buyers and as of today, have no fix for the problem, as confirmed by Land Rover north America. These faults can occur at any time, with no pattern, and no warning. As an example, when the climate control screen freezes, the windscreen cannot be cleared if fogged up as the entire system is inaccessible, which can be highly dangerous in bad weather. Land rover's only advice is to "pull over, shut the vehicle down, wait approx 10 mins, and restart the vehicle", which is not always possible on a freeway on a cold dark night.
To whom it may concern, my vehicle which is at 15,000 miles and about 18 months old, has been facing continuous failures on its electric and electronic components that affected the air suspension shutting down, emergency break locking up, sudden shut down of the middle main console, a shut down of safety features around mirrors and similar vehicle safety warning systems. The issues happen while driving. I took it back to my dealer several times and even the last time after service the car came back with an engine warning sign. I made multiple attempts with Land Rover to correct and stated that my family and I feel very unsafe and insecure not knowing what can break down next. When we asked if it is safe the company responded that we should make that determination without an engineering or technical background. The company also said they will take 30 business days to review our case however upon several reminders that we are not feeling safe, Land Rover opts to ignore or state that they do not have resources ie people to review these cases. I would like to enter into record that we did make many attempts to relay our concerns and if there are to be any accidents it is the fault of the company for continuously ignoring the seriousness of the case and total lack of care for passenger safety. I am writing on this venue hoping that you might be able to convince the company to pay attention to the matter.
The contact stated owns a 2013 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The contact stated that the electrical switch had previously been replaced. Additionally, the contact stated that the infotainment system was updated under warranty. Additionally, the contact stated while driving 65-70 mph, the instrument panel and the infotainment system screen turned black. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where an unknown repair was performed with the assistance of the manufacturer's engineer. Additionally, the contact stated that the message "caution - coolant is low" was displayed several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the thermometer and the receptacle were replaced; however, the check engine warning light illuminated while driving 60-65 mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the fourth and fifth cylinders were misfiring due to the engine overheating. The dealer determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The failure mileage was unknown.
