On your database for car safety my old 2006 Land Rover Range Rover Sport supercharged isn't on there for a recall so when I took it to the dealer he said there are no recalls well I submitted the number for the 2006 Land Rover range rover excluding my VIN number this time and using the national database that you guys provided and found out that it has seven recalls and the guy at range rover dealership would not take care of it for me I am having a problem because they cannot be identified on your website but when you put in the code for the recall it comes up what am I to do?.

While driving on the freeway a low coolant notification came on. Minutes later we saw what we believed to be our engine in smoke. We made it to the side of the highway before the car became engulfed in steam. Car was towed to Land Rover rancho mirage. It was found that lower front coolant manifold had failed what caused the sudden release of steam. This caused engine to overheat and allow coolant to enter the lubrication jacket causing the oil to become contaminated resulting in full engine damage. The person we spoke with knew pretty quickly what happened. Online research shows this is a known problem with Land Rover Range Rover Sport and it has not been recalled. We were quoted 30k to replace engine. We got it replaced outside of dealership for 20k. This is a serious safety issue. I have videos of damage I can send in an email, it will not let me upload.

I had a 64,000 mile tune up on my vehicle upon picking up the car the tech mentioned I may want to replace start/stop switch as it “felt funny upon reprogramming the vehicle” I was given a written estimate and sent on my way in the vehicle. Driving on the highway 66mph heard a ding looked at dash to see a “start/stop switch fail” warning and the car went completely dead I had no blinker no hazards nothing thankfully I was in travel lane and there was a breakdown lane available to move into. My children and I were almost killed. Dealership claims they’ve never heard of this issue. I had never encountered any issues like this prior.

My family and I were driving home in my 2018 Range Rover Sport, which I purchased in 2019 from Land Rover of sudbury (massachusetts). A brief “coolant level low” warning flashed on the dashboard for less than a minute, then promptly went away and never flashed or displayed again. Minutes later, the car started shaking, forcing us to pull over onto the side of the massachusetts turnpike. The engine then immediately began smoking. The temperature gauge never went above the midpoint level, so we were quite confused about what the problem was. We had the car towed directly to Land Rover of sudbury. They informed me that the engine needed to be replaced. I find it unacceptable, and most importantly, unsafe, that the car would go from a “coolant level low” warning that lasted mere seconds before disappearing, to zero coolant and a catastrophic engine failure minutes later while driving on the massachusetts turnpike. This all happened only a few months after the vehicle had ostensibly been deemed to be in suitable repair by Land Rover of sudbury upon my re-taking possession of it following 6+ months in their service shop. I still have not received any answer whatsoever from the dealership as to what went wrong with my vehicle. I have serious concerns that this could be evidence of a more pervasive issue that could potentially affect other vehicles that are currently on the road. I also question whether the service performed to the vehicle at Land Rover of sudbury in 2023 was the cause of the issue. I question the sensors in the vehicle, as well as the communication to the dashboard, and I would like this fully investigated. Why would the coolant level low warning have gone off so quickly after it came on if there was no coolant? why would the temperature gauge on the dashboard not have elevated if the car was overheating? all of these questions lead me to the belief that something was wrong with the vehicle beyond what has been conveyed to me so far.
The car had a warning light in December “stop safely electrical fault detected” Land Rover dealership told me nothing was wrong, except I don’t drive enough & the battery was low. Eventually, the warning went away. This week, the warning light was back, along with additional warnings. The car literally shut down & quit working while it was running. I was sitting in a drive-through. I could not put it in park or drive. Extremely dangerous!!! I had to tow it to the dealership. Again we were told that I don’t drive the car enough. I’ve had it for 5 months and it only has 3000 miles. We refused to accept that as an answer. Eventually, they said there was an update needed. I still do not feel this car is safe.

The contact owns a 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the coolant warning light illuminated, and the engine temperature gauge started to fluctuate. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the coolant outlet pipe was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 70,000.
Available for inspection. While driving on the highway within traffic at approximately 70mph, the vehicle abruptly began to vibrate and a rumbling/knocking noise emanated from the engine compartment. The vehicle lost acceleration and I was forced to pull over. Yes safety of myself and others was at risk - not only was I in traffic, but my family was in the vehicle. No warnings, indicators, or messages appeared. In 2016, Land Rover issued a special service message, ssm 72578 - crankshaft/crankshaft bearing concerns - 3. 0 tdv6 diesel engine. This message depicts the symptoms I experienced. The Land Rover service technicians stated the engine no longer turns and is seized.
The contact owns a 2011 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The contact stated that the vehicle was leaking fuel. The brake, fuel, and check engine warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank flange needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The dealer stated that fuel was leaking in the front of vehicle near the engine. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number 21v635000 (fuel system, gasoline). The manufacturer was contacted, and the contact was informed that there was no warranty coverage on the vehicle for the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.

The engine overheating light came on followed by coolant level low. There was a rattling sound coming from underneath, the car slowed down, and smoke came into the air vents in the car and was smoking under the hood when pulled over. I took my vehicle to the closest dealership, Honda, to assess and determine if it needed to be towed to Land Rover or if they could fix it. The day prior the coolant level low light came on, my husband filled the coolant and the light went off. When I was driving my car the next day the light came on along with the engine overheating, something was dripping from underneath when the vehicle was turned off.
The engine's cooling pipes melt leading to the cooling system failing. This then overheats the engine which leads to dangerous driving conditions. This has been a known issue in other range rover vins and also affects this one.

While driving home on the evening of June 27, 2023, a distance of about 15 miles, the low coolant light suddenly came on, and as we tried pulling over on the next freeway exit, the engine appeared to seize and cut out. It was difficult to brake and steer the car and we were nervous to get in an accident. We came to a rest off the freeway and then officers helped us push our car into a nearby auto zone. We left it there overnight to rest and when we came back the next day, the engine would not start. Had it towed to a nearby independent service center where they determined both engine heads had blown. The car is available for inspection. I have called the manufacturer to see if there were any recalls related to this and found a p055 recall for this model. The description in this recall is very similar to what we experienced.

Our engine locked up when a hose split under the water pump. I have talked to numerous people that their vehicles were damaged/affected the same way. The dealer says that we need to replace the entire engine (cost $24,000). I was also speaking to a dealer that said they know of potentially hundreds that were affected this way. This hose issue/concern should have been recalled and replaced before this major/costly damage to the engine. I feel that Land Rover should cover this damage/expense because they are aware that this is an issue/concern. I was told that when this hose splits that the engine overheats/locks up in just seconds.
The contact owns a 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brakes needed to be replaced. The contact received a second opinion from the dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed that there was a coolant leak. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue but offered no further assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

Car burned down started smoking from engine as I was driving on turnpike towards orlando, FL.
Leaking coolant onto the turbocharger. My coolant light has been coming on often for the past year or so. A month after I top off coolant my warnings light indicates low coolant. I’ve been to Land Rover range rover multiple times with this issue, I was told there is no issue and they top it off and tell me it’s good to go, a month later same issue. I’ve noticed there has been a recall on this matter for 2019-2021 Land Rover ranger rover phev but not on Range Rover Sport 2021 even though there has been many complaints about this. I went in today and I was not talking no for an answer and finally they check and as I had suspected coolant is leaking onto turbocharger. I will attach a photo that the technician from Jaguar Land Rover fort lauderdale has uploaded to the service status tracker link, there you will see that it is the same issue that the recall was on for Land Rover Range Rover Sport phev vehicles recall no. 23v221000. They have not added my specific Range Rover Sport to the recall.

The contact owns a 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle started to decelerate unintendedly. Additionally, there was a rattling sound present under the vehicle. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was briefly illuminated. After pulling over to the side roadway and parking the vehicle, the vehicle was towed to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine rod bearing had failed and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not yet notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 36,000.
The motor has timing chain issues they all do I was quoted 8000 dollars to fix it 90k miles on car.

The vehicle has a incorrect diesel exhaust fluid quality detected warning only have 249 miles before no engine starts. Vehicle currently has 83,000 miles on odometer. Dealer stated that I needed a catalytic converter and nox sensor cost $2800 the land keep assist, lane departure warning and front facing camera are all inoperative.
In may 2022 with 7151 miles on it, the drive belt exploded and they said it was due to a faulty tensioner. During removal of the tensioner, scraps of the belt were noted stuck in the ac compressor pulley and under the shield and engine compartment. This also caused a loss of coolant. The following fault indicators were check engine light, charging system inop, and low coolant light as well. Sound very similar to recall# n785 and I think my VIN should be included. Jaguar Land Rover north America, llc (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2019-2021 Land Rover range rover phev and 2019-2022 Land Rover Range Rover Sport phev vehicles. The water pump pulley drive belt may become damaged or detach, which can allow the engine to overheat. An overheated engine can rupture the engine coolant elbow pipe, leaking coolant onto the turbocharger heat shield.

Was driving in traffic 7 min into the journey with no warning light the car shut down, would not start. No light or indicator before engine overheaded and never gave a warning of anything. This cause the engine to need to be replaced. The Land Rover dealership here in jacksonville said they see this 3 times a week.
2014 rr sport < 73k miles now needs a new engine due to [three (3) passenger side] piston ring failure. Serviced only at dealer, received appropriate service at appropriate intervals. White/gray smoke appeared after oil change/80k mile service 03/21. Told smoke sometimes happens after oil change, no worries. I kept driving vehicle. Took to dealer twice, they couldn't replicate. After a month at dealer, they did boroscope which revealed striations. 90% cylinder leak down. Jlrusa says vehicle way out of warranty, not their problem. Dealer says not their problem, they did nothing wrong. I now have a 2. 5 ton paperweight just sitting at dealer. Repair costs well over 10k for new engine. Seems strange that these seals failed, all 3 passenger side, and this occurred with regular service at appropriate intervals at dealer with the correct engine oil. Someone is at fault and it's not owner.

Dear NHTSA, I am filing a complaint about a serious safety defect in my 2020 Range Rover Sport, VIN salwr2su1la724962, leased from Jaguar Land Rover north dade in miami, FL on July 15, 2020. The defective component is the engine control unit (ecu). On June 8, 2020, just 3 weeks before I leased the vehicle, the dealership replaced the ecu at only 18 miles due to a defect. However, they did not disclose this critical repair when representing the vehicle as "new. " I experienced persistent issues related to the faulty ecu including check engine lights, power loss, misfiring, and excessive oil consumption. Despite multiple repair attempts, the dealership failed to properly diagnose or fix the underlying defect. The faulty ecu caused complete engine failure at only 38,427 miles on March 2, 2022. The failed engine and ecu are available for inspection. Repair records confirm the pre-lease ecu replacement. An independent mechanic diagnosed the root cause as the defective ecu. This defect poses a severe safety risk of sudden engine stall or failure. There were warning signs the manufacturer and dealer failed to resolve. The dealership's misconduct in concealing the defect and leasing a defective vehicle caused me extensive damages that could justify punitive damages. I request NHTSA immediately investigate this defect to protect other range rover owners from these safety risks. Please contact me for any further information. (650) 797-8441 attached files: see exhibit c where the dealership replaced the faulty engine control unit ("ecu") - which is the brain of the engine. See exhibit 1: my letter pleading to the manufacturer: Jaguar Land Rover north America, llc see exhibit b: all repair orders - same frequent issues "ecu".
I receive a constant warning light - check engine light comes on - for loose gas cap. I will adjust the gas cap and it will go away and then come back on, illuminate again shortly after. There is a strong fuel smell inside and outside of the vehicle.
Vehicle hesitates on accelerating from low speed. It is extremely dangerous and I have nearly been broadsided a number of times. From a rolling start at low speed, depressing the accelerator pedal has no effect. . It feels like an eternity until the engine comes to life. I would say at least two full seconds. And when it finally does come to life, it can be a neck-snapping shocking jolt that will cause passengers to scream. It is my belief that Jaguar Land Rover north America is aware of this issue but has not addressed it for 2018+ l494 Range Rover Sport's with the 5. 0l supercharged v8 engine. I have had the vehicle in at the dealer a number of times for this issue and they state that there is nothing wrong. This vehicle has 518hp and when the powertrain hesitates to respond to the accelerator pedal being depressed, it exacerbates an already very dangerous situation by ultimately slamming the car into gear in a very violent way. The powertrain / transmission is certainly not behaving normally. This is my 3rd Range Rover Sport with the 5. 0l v8 engine, and neither of my two prior vehicles experienced this phenomenon. It seems to be applicable to the 2018+ models only. This must be fixed by Jaguar Land Rover!.
At the beginning of the year my car started going into limp mode and shutting down. I had it inspected and the purge valve was faulty and I paid to have it replaced in August 2021. In the past month it’s started dying while driving, mostly as I’m pulling up to a stoplight. The engine will sputter and it will completely die while the car is in drive which means I loose controll of the steering wheel even while it’s still moving. I just had it inspected and it’s the same issue, the purge valve I’ve just replaced is stuck closed. So this will be the 3rd purge valve this car has had in a 4 month period. I’m afraid this is going to cause me to have an accident and it’s the same thing over and over so it sounds like it’s a faulty part.
While I am in intersections driving, the car completely shuts off and I have to start the car back up for it to actually drive. It completely turns off while you’re driving. I have had several electrical issues with the car that have also been repaired. I’ve brought the car into the dealer service center over seven times and they have not been able to reproduce the issue of shutting off. I have installed a dash cam to record when it happens randomly. I reported to Land Rover corporate and they have not done anything over 8 months with this issue. I have two daughters and I’m concerned about getting into an accident with this car shutting off randomly. This has been occurring since I purchased the car in October 2020. Please help.

Car jumped forward while coming to a stop. Almost hit a child crossing in the crosswalk. Also happened numerous times coming to a stop at the off ramp. Engine idles very rough, high pitch idle, and rpms surge up and down on their own. Dealer won’t believe us. They don’t want to use resources to fix what is covered by warranty. This car is a danger to drive. Has also stalled unexpectedly. Dealer only looks for software update and warning lights. We’ve never had a warning light and updates do absolutely nothing. Forums show others are experiencing the same thing. Dealer said they cannot spend that amount of time to find the problem. This is a liability and major safety issue that range rover needs to be addressed. Car has 9000 miles. Car shutters and bounces. Rpms unpredictable and car has idling issues. Please help -we don’t want to hit someone because the car unexpectedly lunges forward.
The contact owns a 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the check engine, coolant, and oil warning lights simultaneously flashed on the instrument panel. The contact also stated that the vehicle had failed to start after several attempts. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to a dealer, but the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was then towed to an independent mechanic where the mechanic linked the failure to the engine cam carrier listed in NHTSA campaign number: 23v044000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was then towed to another independent mechanic but was not repaired and remained in possession of the independent mechanic. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

While driving on a city street the car just stops. I would have a full tank of gas and the gage reads empty. In addition all lights on the dash board go on. The car had to be flat bedded many times. I have no documentation because the car was once again flat bedded into service currently , and all paperwork is in the car.

The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 87,000.
Without any signs and warnings, my car's engine light was suddenly on as we were driving home. When my husband drove it to the dealer, we were told that the engine needed a replacement. We have to pay more than $20,000 because our car (2016 Land Rover sport) was 7000 miles beyond the warranty mileage (50,000).
