2023 Range Rover Sport (VIN: [xxx] ). Vehicle's own anti-theft security system simultaneously deactivated both Smart keys after they were left inside the locked vehicle. This is a known design defect across all jlr vehicles from 2022 onwards. Vehicle is now completely inoperable. Dealer is quoting $3,000 for a new keyless vehicle module (kvm) and two new keys. Owner was never warned at purchase that this could occur. This leaves owners completely stranded with no fix available without paying thousands of dollars. This is a safety issue as it can strand drivers in unsafe locations. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Vehicle: 2012 Range Rover Sport supercharged (VIN: [xxx] ) recall campaign: n623 / NHTSA 21v635 incident description: in October 2025 I had a recall repair done at Land Rover annapolis. I picked up my vehicle from Land Rover annapolis after the n623 fuel outlet flange recall was performed. Immediately after service, while driving in a live lane of traffic, the vehicle unexpectedly stalled, resulting in a complete loss of motive power. the dashboard fuel gauge falsely indicated 55 miles of remaining range, but the vehicle had actually run out of fuel. This indicates that the fuel sending unit/float assembly was improperly reinstalled or damaged during the recall service, creating a secondary safety defect. I figured it would calibrate and fix itself. When the dealer reached out after my service appointment I made them aware of the issue. No one contacted me. I contacted Land Rover corporate when it continued to happen and was told to bring it back to the certified repair location. The dealership took 16 mins to look at my vehicle and deem the engine bad. Give a ballpark quote of 20000 to 30000 dollars to replace the engine. Despite this life-safety event, the dealership refused to pull stored diagnostic trouble codes (dtcs) and is attempting to deflect liability by blaming a pre-existing minor coolant leak that never triggered an overheat warning. I am reporting a failure of the recall remedy and requesting an investigation into the dealership's refusal to diagnose consequential damage (high-pressure fuel pump failure) caused by the botched safety when I brought up the fact that they should have diagnosed the codes already he offered to have them run it for free tomorrow like he was doing me some kind of favor. When I said did I disagreed with the findings based on the fact that there was no evidence of it being the engine overheating due to cool it he replied that maybe I needed a second opinion and it needed to be off of their lot by Friday. The fuel tank shields are disintegrating due to rust buildup because of poor quality materials. This is a very concerning issue since on these range rovers the fuel tank shields actually support the fuel tank. My biggest concern would be for the fuel tank to eject itself and cause a major incident. Range rover is aware of this situation as it is happening on a lot of these models.

On 17th of January, 2026, the backseat door, behind driver's seat, failed and continues to fail to close and/or latch shut due to door/keyless latching mechanism/system. On January 17, 2026 backseat door, behind driver's seat, swung open twice while driving and would not latch or shut close. Backseat door, behind driver's seat, continues to fail to close or latch shut securely. Only warning of this was the lights turning on in the vehicle during the event. Upon returning home and looking up online what could be the cause and how to remedy I found Land Rover recall p068, which states: notification of safety recall p068: vehicle door may not latch, service bulletin. 16-Jun-15 no. : sre15-12 section: recall market: USA: a concern has been identified on 2014-2016 model year Range Rover Sport (l494) and 2013-2016 model year range rover (l405) vehicles where customers have reported the door is unlatched when in the closed position and no indication provided of a of an unlatched condition. Some customers have reported that one door has opened while the vehicle was in motion. No notification was ever received for this recall. I contacted the van nuys Land Rover dealership that same week and was informed they would not remedy and no recall existed.
Vehicle experienced sudden and complete shutdown while driving immediately after crossing railroad tracks. Dashboard warning displayed “battery failure. ” vehicle would not restart and would not shift into neutral, leaving it immobilized in traffic. Police department called and traffic was managed by 2 police officers. Vehicle was stuck on roadway and required manual override procedure (unknown to owner) to shift into neutral before being pushed off roadway. Vehicle was towed 250 miles. Dealership has indicated hybrid battery/system failure and ordered replacement battery. Concern: sudden total loss of propulsion and inability to shift into neutral creates serious roadway safety hazard. If this had occurred seconds earlier, vehicle could have been immobilized directly on railroad tracks. Request investigation into hybrid battery/system failures causing sudden total shutdown without safe-mode capability.

A potential concern has been identified on specific vehicles within the above vehicle range. A concern has been identified on ingenium i4 2. 0l petrol plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (phev) engines where the coolant pump drive belt can become damaged leading to detachment or destruction. Where coolant pump drive is lost, this leads to a loss of coolant flow in the engine. The lack of coolant flow can cause the engine to rapidly overheat, and subsequently ruptures an engine mounted plastic elbow in the cooling circuit. If the coolant elbow is ruptured this leads to a coolant leak onto the turbocharger heatshield which may lead to a fire in the engine compartment which can propagate to the whole vehicle. N785v2 [xxx] I check my VIN this is the problem with my car information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

9/23/2025 after multiple trips to the dealership, the issues with my vehicle continue to persist. Here is the breakdown of my current issues with my vehicle: 1. Brakepad warning light (was informed that it is not covered under warranty even though I only have less than 13k miles) 2. After two attempts to fix the window seal issue, the issue still persists 3. The navigation screen on my driver console doesn’t display when in carplay mode 4. The backseat center console doesn’t close properly, so the dealership ordered the part almost two months ago, and it still has not arrived. 10/7/2025 (update) I wanted to inform you that I was quoted $3,347. 01 for rear brake pads and rotors for my vehicle, which has less than 13,500 miles. I’m quite shocked because I was told that this isn’t covered under warranty and that I’m responsible for the cost. I’ve owned or leased at least five Range Rover Sports in the past, and I’ve never experienced such rapid wear and tear. Additionally, the dealership acknowledged the window sealing issue for the third time and informed me that it’s now resolved after making some “adjustments. ” however, I’m still puzzled because they didn’t order any replacement parts, and this is the third time I’ve taken my car in for the same issue.

Low coolant warning ?? immediately parked & had towed to Land Rover. Have found several recalls on the coolant hose under supercharger leaking in other countries & recalls in place. Not here though.
There are two primary complaints on the vehicle since it was lease on may 26, 2025. (1) clunking metal on metal sound when the vehicle is in reverse as well as sharp right or left turn or general braking. The sound is most audible on the rear right side of the vehicle. This matter was reported > 3 times to the freeport landover dealership; the last visit was in October 2025. During the visit the techs claim not to hear any noise and the issue persists, even at time of this complaint. The vehicle has about 5,100 miles and has been in for service, since june11, 2025, July 2025, August 2025 and was held there until sept. 30, 2025. (2) reported brake issues as of June 2025, within 1 week of having the vehicle. September 2025, after two previous visits and the vehicle being held from 8/29/2025 through September 30, 2025, the front brakes were changed and again the squeaky brake issues is still happening every time it rains or snows or I get a car wash. It is evident this vehicle has defects since manufacturing. I had for 4. 5 years, the range rover 2020 evogue, which I traded in for this Range Rover Sport and had zero mechanical issues.

- I purchased my car in October 2022 and I have had a coolant level low notification on my dashboard in December 2022. I then filled the coolant myself. - the warning notification showed up again after about 3 weeks in January 2023. I then took it to Land Rover frisco service and parts center on 1/25/2023 to get it get it inspected. They said they found 'turbo coolant inlet and outlet pipes leaking, replace turbo coolant inlet pipe and replace turbo outlet coolant pipe' (exact words from the service note). - however, the same issue came back again after about 6 months, when I call them back for repair - they said I will have to pay it out of my pocket since my warranty has run out. - I asked them how much the cost would be, and they said to diagnose they would charge me $260 and then whatever amount the repair service would cost. As I could not afford it, I started re-filling the coolant whenever the car is giving me the 'coolant low' warning sign. And I have been doing that for the past good year or so. - I now some vehicles with the same year and model have been re-called for the specific safety issue that I am experiencing, however my vehicle is not part of the re-call. - I called them Land Rover this morning to request if they can fix my car for free, and they said since this car is not part of the re-called cars, I will have to pay for the fix. - I strongly believe this car should be part of the re-call as well.
My 2020 range rover is leaking coolant and I heard it’s a common problem.
On Monday, October 28, 2024, while driving on [xxx] [xxx] from mckinney, TX, to irving, TX, a red oil can light appeared on my vehicle's dashboard. Shortly after, the car struggled to accelerate. I pulled over, and white smoke began coming through the dashboard vents. Noticing a strong smell, my daughter and I exited the vehicle. We observed fluid leaking on the ground and smoke intensifying. Soon after, flames engulfed the vehicle's undercarriage. The entire car was consumed by fire. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I took my range rover in for a coolant leak, was told there was a recall on a battery system, the recall was a software update to prevent that battery system from going offline. The system was already offline, and Land Rover north America refuses to honor the intent of the recall, and is refusing to cover the cost to replace that battery system. It only seems logical that if a recall is to prevent an issue from occurring yet the issue has already occurred, they should cover the cost to fix it. Notes form dealer below: recall - perform open recall # labor $0. 00 1. Unable to perform recall # n861 at this time due to becm being off line. Becm requires replacement beforerecall can be performed.
Notified of recall and that rear right door may open when vehicle is in motion. Took it in to Land Rover and Land Rover rejected and failed to complete and finish recall at Land Rover of lynnwood.

The car had a warning light in December “stop safely electrical fault detected” Land Rover dealership told me nothing was wrong, except I don’t drive enough & the battery was low. Eventually, the warning went away. This week, the warning light was back, along with additional warnings. The car literally shut down & quit working while it was running. I was sitting in a drive-through. I could not put it in park or drive. Extremely dangerous!!! I had to tow it to the dealership. Again we were told that I don’t drive the car enough. I’ve had it for 5 months and it only has 3000 miles. We refused to accept that as an answer. Eventually, they said there was an update needed. I still do not feel this car is safe.
The gesture liftgate feature that is equipped will both open and close eratically while vehicle is in park and there is movement around the side and rear of the vehicle and there is no way to disable. This has resulted the liftgate opening when my daughter has walked behind the vehicle, almost striking her head; the liftgate closing numerous times on me, my wife, my daughter doing things like removing groceries from the vehicle or sitting in the back putting shoes on - several head strikes have resulted from the unintended closing; and the liftgate opening when parked in the garage while the garage is closed resulting in the liftgate being pinned into the garage causing damage to the garage and the liftgate.
Turning the corner door coming open. Good thing my child had his seat belt on. Brakes. Has been making noise since I purchase the vehicle. But stated brake are ok but don't trust brakes making loud noise.
Unfortunately I really have no idea what caused the problem . But while driving on the highway ( in traffic ) going approx 40 mph . My vehicle had a low coolant light come on. Within 5 min of the light coming on the vehicle made a loud fast ticking like noise so I pulled off the road 1 half mile from my exit . Before I could even stop the vehicle fully . The cars hood had smoke and flames coming out . The flames got to at least 10 feet in the air … within 15 min the front of the vehicle was burned to the ground . Police and fire arrived just under 15 min and were able to put the fire out . I have videos of the vehicle as I ran for safety . I had no none problems with this vehicle prior to this incident. The fire and police stated they have never seen a car like this go up in flames so fast as this one .

You can lock the doors inside the vehicle or with the remote but the doors do not lock.
Land rover/range rover does not have remote start on the key fob, but instead proudly boasts of their incontrol app. "incontrol remote provides information on your vehicle and enables you to interact with it remotely. Compatible with most androidtm and apple ios® smartphones, this service allows you to lock/unlock the doors, remotely preheat/precool the vehicle using the climate control function and remote engine start, or find your Land Rover faster by using the beep and flash feature. " a quick look at the app reviews or an online google search of this product indicates this simply is not the case. The app is unreliable at best and unsafe at worst. It absolutely does not operate as marketed. The app is defective and Land Rover is well aware and has done nothing to correct this. I have been locked outside of my own range rover multiple times in various locations. Today, there was a winter gale warning of real feel 17 degrees. I started my car about five minutes before exiting. The app showed that my car started. When I was about one minute from my car, I opened the app to unlock my vehicle. It said it was unlocked. I physically saw the side mirrors on my car close and heard the doors lock as I was approaching. The app continued to show that my car was running and unlocked. I stood outside the car in the freezing weather (note that I could see my key fob inside the car) waiting for the app to refresh so I could unlock. I took a screenshot of the app indicting my car was unlocked and a video of me trying the handle on my car at this time. After approximately 5 minutes, I started walking back to the restaurant. The continued to try to use the app. I emailed remote@jaguarlandrover. Com. Finally, it showed that I could lock my already locked car, so I locked it and unlocked it. I walked back out. It was not unlocked. I called roadside assistance for help. She was in the process of filing for someone to come unlock my car, when I tried the app again 10 min later. It unloc.
Car started smoking from under front hood while driving, while pulling to a stop, smoke started flooded cabin with my son and grandchildren in the car. They all got out safely but then the front engine and car exploded in flames.
Passenger door would not open from inside or outside.
Our vehicle allows for the rear lift gate to be opened while the vehicle is in motion. Any person in the vehicle can press the rear lift gate button and it will open, even if driving down the road. Our loaner vehicles from Land Rover also allow this to occur. This is a major safety issue as cargo or pets could be ejected or jump from a moving vehicle if the driver or a passenger inadvertently press the rear lift gate button. There should be a modification that would prevent the rear lift gate from being able to be activated via this button while the vehicle is not in the park mode.

Upon making a turn the driver side door unexpectedly opened. At this point it seems the latch is malfunctioning as the door will not stay closed.
The lock mechanism on the passenger side door stopped working, the door will not open from the inside or outside. I have searched online and this seems to be a very common occurrence with this auto maker. The car was not hit, has not been damaged. I parked and my daughter was not able to get out of the vehicle, the door will unlatch and open about half an inch but then the soft close mechanism engages and will not allow the door to be opened any further and instead automatically closes the door. This is cause for concern because if I am driving and get hit on the driver side will be trapped in the car. Since this seems to be a very common issue with Land Rover it should be a safety recall.
The gear shift button randomly stuck and was not able to pop back out. Reached out to numerous car repair shops that specialize in Range Rover Sports and they informed that should be a recall issue since they do get a lot of calls regarding this issue. They said it’s a software issue and that the dealer should fix this issue.
Spoiler may detach from the car while driving, creating the risk of a crash, as my spoiler is detached. The top of the spoiler and bottom portion of the spoiler has an open gap between the top and bottom portions of the spoiler. The bottom portion hangs and covers nearly half my rear view camera, obstructing my view when attempting to use the rear camera. The spoiler seems to have become much looser and bounces excessively while being driven. It does not feel safe to continue driving at this time, as I fear the spoiler will detach while in transit and cause harm to vehicles traveling behind my vehicle. My vehicle is currently at my local Land Rover for another recall at this time. Had it towed over.
Dear NHTSA, I am filing a complaint about a serious safety defect in my 2020 Range Rover Sport, VIN salwr2su1la724962, leased from Jaguar Land Rover north dade in miami, FL on July 15, 2020. The defective component is the engine control unit (ecu). On June 8, 2020, just 3 weeks before I leased the vehicle, the dealership replaced the ecu at only 18 miles due to a defect. However, they did not disclose this critical repair when representing the vehicle as "new. " I experienced persistent issues related to the faulty ecu including check engine lights, power loss, misfiring, and excessive oil consumption. Despite multiple repair attempts, the dealership failed to properly diagnose or fix the underlying defect. The faulty ecu caused complete engine failure at only 38,427 miles on March 2, 2022. The failed engine and ecu are available for inspection. Repair records confirm the pre-lease ecu replacement. An independent mechanic diagnosed the root cause as the defective ecu. This defect poses a severe safety risk of sudden engine stall or failure. There were warning signs the manufacturer and dealer failed to resolve. The dealership's misconduct in concealing the defect and leasing a defective vehicle caused me extensive damages that could justify punitive damages. I request NHTSA immediately investigate this defect to protect other range rover owners from these safety risks. Please contact me for any further information. (650) 797-8441 attached files: see exhibit c where the dealership replaced the faulty engine control unit ("ecu") - which is the brain of the engine. See exhibit 1: my letter pleading to the manufacturer: Jaguar Land Rover north America, llc see exhibit b: all repair orders - same frequent issues "ecu".
I can be driving and the car will just cut off. The real danger was when I was on the freeway and I almost couldn't pull over to the side and a semi truck was behind me. That happened about 3 years ago. Also when I start the car and put it in reverse the parking brake warning light come on, that also started happening a couple years ago. The above happened again yesterday and the day before, October 9, 2021.

Hello, I have 2010 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. 4 weeks ago I smell gas and I saw error code about gas cap. I purchased 2 gas cap and replaced it but I keep smelling gas. I took the car to shop and mechanic confirmed gas leak. I call landrover customer service and I talk to debbie and tiffany. I told them about upcoming gas leak recall and they told me they couldn't help me before official recall announcement. I took the car to landrover dealer in alexandria virginia and I talk to ash and he told me the same thing to wait until offical recall. I don't know why we wait until October 8, 2021 if gas leak is fire hazard. Nhtsa I really appreciate for your help and thank you for your time. Have a blessed day.

While I am in intersections driving, the car completely shuts off and I have to start the car back up for it to actually drive. It completely turns off while you’re driving. I have had several electrical issues with the car that have also been repaired. I’ve brought the car into the dealer service center over seven times and they have not been able to reproduce the issue of shutting off. I have installed a dash cam to record when it happens randomly. I reported to Land Rover corporate and they have not done anything over 8 months with this issue. I have two daughters and I’m concerned about getting into an accident with this car shutting off randomly. This has been occurring since I purchased the car in October 2020. Please help.
