Electrical System Problems of Lexus ES350 - part 1

On Friday, June 03, 2022 as I was leaving the dealership in the 2020 Lexus ES 350 loaner vehicle, I put the car in reverse to back away from the wall, and then put the car from reverse into drive that resulted in it lurching forward momentarily. I did not hear the engine revving, probably because I wasn’t paying attention, but my partner who was seated next to me in the driver’s seat said he heard it. He suspected that the dealership loaned us the vehicle that had a similar issue that caused it to move forward. When I saw the definition of sudden unintended acceleration, I felt that it could be that. I didn’t think it was me. I drove the Lexus home, which was across the street from the dealership and no one drove it during the next few days. On Tuesday, June 07, 2022, we were scheduled for a medical appointment 80 miles away. My partner cancelled it but I decided to take the Lexus out to the store and there was no incident so the appointment was rescheduled for June 09. On Thursday, June 09, 2022 at about 11:30am pdt, I brought the 2020 Lexus ES 350 loaner vehicle to a stop using the brake pedal. The car was about 12 feet from a landscaped island that separated two parking areas. I was looking to find a parking space that had tree shade. Without moving my foot off the brake, the engine began revving at the same time the Lexus sped forward on its own. I was fully cognizant of what I was doing and what was happening specifically because of what had occurred the Friday before. At the time that the vehicle moved forward, I was doing nothing but pressing my foot on the break. There was nothing obstructing the pedals on the floor as we had made sure of that during the preparation for the trip. The rate of speed that the vehicle was going when it jumped the curb of a landscaped island no more that 3 or 4 feet in diameter is something I would have never normally been able to achieve. Both front door lock actuators not working properly. The car only has 40225 miles and is garage kept. What the possibility of both going bad and is this a manufacturing defect and should be a warranted part?.

Door locks(all 4 doors) stopped locking/unlocking by use of power door lock button or key fob. Each door must now be locked / unlocked manually. Based on forum page, this is a widespread issue that must be investigated. . Read more...

The power door lock on the driver's side stopped working with the key fob. Can only lock and unlock by use of actual key or by manually pushing door lock. The passenger's side door lock is starting to show the same signs as the driver's side did before it stopped working completely. Sometimes will work properly and sometimes it won't.

While driving, front doors unlock themselves. Its been happening often over 3 years. The dealer was unable to repair. While parked, alarm sounds itself. Today it happened two times. This is new.

My 2014 Lexus ES 350 has less then 4000 miles on the vehicle and the steering has malfunctioned twice and I am now unable to drive the car as it is part of the electrical system which continually freezes up making it inoperable. I purchased the car 2 months ago and as it was certified by Lexus this should not have happened. This is a potentially very dangerous situation. Fortunately I was in my parking lot both times this occurred and not on the highway.

I am the owner of a Lexus whose engine wires are soy based. 4 weeks ago my car was totally "dead" and I had it towed to the dealer who told me rodents ate the wires. The cost to repair the wires was $977. 00 plus the cost of towing. This is negligence on the part of Lexus and a highway danger to all. I feel it is the responsibility of your organization to recall all cars that have soy based wires which is an extreme safety hazard for all on the road and have Lexus replace my wires with non soy wires and reimburse me for all costs of this situation.

Driving in a storm all the forward looking sensors failed as the sensor became covered with snow and ice. These are the sensors that control collision alert, lane departure alert, cruse control etc. The safety functions most required in bad weather failed.

***** when ventilated seat feature is turned on, there is tremendous heat that begins to build in the middle/lower seat back. Heat is also being felt on the upper right shoulder of the bolster. This is causing such an issue that I am having to lean forward while driving to avoid the heat build-up that 2 accidents have almost occurred. I am concerned that the seat may catch fire !!!! this needs to be fixed immediately!!!! this happenes at anytime whether driving or stationary.

While turning right from one street to another, there was complete engine shut-off, and several seconds passed before I could re-start the car, this occurring in morning rush hour, and barely averted an accident. This car also has had numerous random and occasional electrical problems, mirrors moving on their own, garage opener not working, seat memory not working, etc. Shop can't duplicate them and therefore cannot fix. Lexus does not respond. Worry is that engine cut-off might happen again, and also worry that there is an overall electrical problem that affects major systems, including engine operation.

Three major issues with this car, and lots of minor ones. 1. The brakes did not engage while slowing down in traffic. Hitting the brakes caused the car to lurch forward. 2. The electrical system seemed to turn off and all internal/external lights went off at night and I was unable to see the road. 3. The car slips and the systems to counteract slipping did not engage. There are issues with the navigation, the enform system and many other issues. Repeated attempts to resolve the problem with Lexus have met with no success. Regards, brian povlsen.

Bought this Lexus in 03/12/12. It is used. There has been moisture in the headlight housing. This is not a little moisture, it is very excessive. We can't drive the car at night because of the excessive moisture causes very dim light which would be dangerous to drive at night. My husband talked to a sarah as case manager at corporate, market manager for services, val kramer, warranty coordinator and each of them said they could do nothing to help us. Lexus send us a letter and told us they know that the headlight is not completely sealed. Would you please help. Lexus should fix this with no expense. Thank you cor your bell.

While driving, sometimes, 'door open' icon shows right front door open and all doors unlock, even though the doors are properly locked. I stop the car, re-close the right front door and move on. It happens often. First I noticed in June 2015. Took the car for repair at Lexus. Problem persists.

I was driving and pulled up next to another car as I pulled off the highway, when the driver motioned to me for directions I immediately tried to rolled the window down to speak to rge person. The passenger side window makes a popping sound and sounds like it jumps out of the track. This prevent opening and closing the window. I just purchased the car from jm Lexus and now told. Have to pay over $800 to repair it. I had a bad experience with the salesman when we made the purchase which made me swear off purchasing another vehicle through them or even recommendibg them. This is my third purchase through them I should have listened to my instinct. . I parked my car in parking garage or on the street. When I return I noticed the interior dash melts and peels when the temperature raises.

I purchased my 2015 Lexus Es350 on Tuesday, November 25th, 2014. On November 27th, I was turning right into a parking space and the vehicle accelerated aggressively on its own causing the car to run over the concrete parking spot stopper and propel 200-300 feet until I hit a palm tree, stopping the car from entering a nearby lake. This caused significant damage to the car. My wife and I were in complete shock as I was unable to stop / control the car - I attempted to pump the brakes multiple times (leaving tire tracks) but the car continued accelerating until we hit the tree. We filed a report w/ the florida sheriff's department. Additionally, the day before (Nov 26th), I noticed the side mirrors on the car did not tilt properly when in reverse - the left mirror tilted down, the right mirror tilted up. This may be a result of the 'mirror switch block' but together with a few other mechanical issues, this leads me to believe the 2-day old car had some significant and dangerous mechanical / electronic issues. I have attached more information about the car and a picture of the parking spot where the acceleration occurred. Please contact me about appropriate next steps related to this significant defect.

We currently have allstate for insurance and they have this item called the drivewise. This device fits in the obd ii port under the steering column. This device created multiple communications errors within the computers for the car. After reading up on this, it seems that many people are having this issue in many makes/models. The vehicle shifted funny into another gear on its own. The instrument cluster was not working and would not light up. The radio would not work at all and the sunroof was making a funny noise. The speakers were making a crackling sound and the a/c wasn't working. The heated and cooled seats were not working. After bringing the vehicle into the Lexus dealer they could see that the vehicle was having multiple communications issues between the computer systems. This device is a safety concern and we will not continue using it. Everything is back to normal now that the device has been removed. Had we not been proactive about this, the device could have caused an accident. Potentially harming someone. This is a very serious concern we have and I feel that someone should do more research on the product.

Oil dumped out crossing a very long bridge & engine froze up/steering hard to control. . . Due to a defective vvti_oil hose rupturing. . Both Lexus & Toyota were aware of this problem & had issued a "limited service campaign" that ended on March 31, 2013. . Both refused to fix my car that with rental cars, cost me aprox. $7,000. 00. . This was a rubber hose, that both mfgs. Knew about and both CO. Continued to replace these faulty hoses, with another "rubber hose", even tho' there was & still is a metal hose that is recommended!! I had posted this problem with ya'll, shortly after, but, do not find records of. . But, aproz. 2 weeks ago, I received a notification from Lexus stating," they had decided to re-open this "limited service campaign" to extend to Dec. 31, 2021. . A day too late & alot of $$$$& time spent. . Even tho' Lexus said they would consider reimbursement on cars, like mine that already had been repaired. Lexus is only doing this, again, because I am 100% sure that all the many many Lexus & Toyota car owners that had their hoses replaced back in 2013 and prior are now experiencing what I had to go thru: engine died, almost ran off the bridge and spent weeks without a car. . Had to rent. I ask for you to please go back and research this faulty vvti_oil hose on both Lexus & toyata cars. . There are thousands, especially with Toyota!!! all you have to do is google vvti-oil hose and you will see. . Thank you in advance!!.

My passenger side front window will not roll up properly. Apparently the plastic clip broke off and the entire window has to be replaced. This is definitely a defect by Lexus. I have seen a lot of complaints online about this. Lexus is charging 700 dollars to fix. I will not buy another Lexus or recommend one to anyone because Lexus should take ownership for this one.

While driving on the highway at 60 miles / h my driverside window suddenly fell down which seriously distracted me and which almost resulted in a collision with another car. Feedback from Lexus is that the plastic tabs that hold the window disintegrate over time and as a result the entire window will need to be replaced. It's clearly a safety hazard and should pro-actively be addressed by Lexus.

Extremely dangerous right front passenger grasps top of door frame to close door. Driver closes window but is unable to stop window from closing. Once it starts it can't be stopped nor is there a safety stop such as that found in garage or elevator doors. Window crushes finger of passenger and flesh is torn. Flesh retrieved and sewn in emergency room but hospital surgery required 3 weeks later on right ring finger. Potential death trap! imagine if it closes on a child, a dog, or object.

While driving down the road at varying speeds I have noticed that the outside mirrors on my car change position without any input on the switch. During the week or so prior to the first time that this occurred, I had noticed that when returning to the car after leaving it parked overnight that the mirrors, selecting the memory switch would return the seat and mirrors to their preset position. However this has now progressed to where the mirrors will change position while the vehicle is in motion. The driver's mirror will not change position dramatically, however the passenger side mirror will frequently tilt up to nearly the full extent of its' travel and without any warning or input from the driver. This has led to several occasions where a quick glance, especially at night, did not show an obstruction on the passenger side of the car and nearly led to an accident. Pressing the memory recall button numerous times will eventually bring the mirror back to the set memory position. This is a safety hazard and I would like my vehicle to be repaired.

While driving at night the headlights went out. They began to work intermittently. The dealer replace both headlight bulbs.

Lexus 2009, model Es350. All windows and sunroof open by themselves at the same time at different occaisons. Vehicle has been brought and left at keyes Lexus in van nuys, CA. Numerous times to correct from beginning of my purchase. They failed to correct the problem to this date after promissing to do so. The danger exists if this happens while driving, it could cause an accident.

Lexus 2009, model Es350 security system goes off by itself at odd hours all windows and sunroof open by themselves at the same time on different occasions. Now Toyota is replacing all computers that relate to this electrical problem. The vehicle has been at the service department over a week.
