1 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2006 Lexus GS300

Failure Date: 04/05/2018

While bringing the car to a stop, I am experiencing a very hard downshift from 2nd gear to 1st gear. This hard downshift is so abrupt that it feels as if you were rear ended. Research shows this being an electronic failure in the electronic control module backed with hundreds of complaints of this exact issue to this particular year, make and model. In several cases, mentions of a class action lawsuit against Toyota/Lexus have been mentioned. It's a costly, yet unnecessary repair caused by a flawed design within the electronic componentry. . Considering the reoccurrence of this issue on a mass scale, it may be one best addressed via recall.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2000 Lexus GS300

Failure Date: 11/15/2013

Regarding my 2000 GS 300 Lexus. Brake, abs, vsc, vsc off lights along with loud alarm displayed. Also has had an annoying on and off chirping noise before this alarm sounded. The breaks appear to be working without any problems. The chirping noise is heard on the drivers side and doesn't seem to matter whether car is moving or driving and sometimes is not heard at all and the car drives fine without any mechanical problems. But when the brake light came on it was accompanied with a shrill alarm that sounded for about 10 minutes and went off. I took the vehicle to my mechanic and he said it was the hydraulic brake pump and would cost $3700 to fix. This is a lot of money and I am afraid the brakes will go out and afraid to drive it since my brakes may suddenly go out.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 1999 Lexus GS300

Failure Date: 09/01/2013

I stopped at a traffic light and all of a sudden my car started to accelerate, I pressed the brake real hard but the car lunged forward ahead. Quickly, I put it into neutral. It continued to accelerate to over 7500 and then went back down. Luckily no one was in front of me and the person at the intersection saw what was happening and he swerved away. I was able to drive it home. In my 45 years of driving many different vehicles, this has been the most scariest feeling.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2000 Lexus GS300

Failure Date: 06/19/2012

I was turning onto the freeway (uphill onramp) I stepped on the gas going about 20 miles an hr when suddenly my car wouldn't stop. Accelerated so quickly. At first I thought my foot was touching the gas accidently so I moved and applied the brake which was no help, after I took my foot off the brake it accelerated faster I was terrified. I slammed on the brakes with both my feet and the car slowed enough that I was able to turn it off. Even while I applied the brakes the car was still trying to pull forward as I turned it off the steering wheel locked. This was the worst experience I have ever had afraid to drive it I had it towed to the nearest gas station to have it checked. I'm hoping that they will find the problem because I don't want this to ever happen again. Thankfully it was late at night and the freeway wasn't that crowded. I have a 2000 Lexus Gs300.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2000 Lexus GS300

Failure Date: 06/05/2010

While driving my Lexus GS 300, the vehicle stopped accelerating! the vehicle was driving normally and all of sudden it stalled out (engine still running) but no acceleration at all, almost causing me to get hit by another vehicle. The vehicles vsc and the engine light came on after this happened. . I pushed the gas pedal all the way to the floor board and nothing happened, after a minute or so, it begin to accelerate but only about 20-30 mph. After constantly holding the pedal to the floorboard, the car begin to accelerate normally again for a few miles. It does this continuously while driving now. At times I have had to pull off the road and let the vehicle sit for awhile and then it will return to functioning normally. The codes that the mechanic pulled up from the engine and vsc lights were for the throttle body sensor to be changed. This was done and the car drove perfect for about 15 miles, no problems, no engine light etc. . . Then out of nowhere, everything started to happen again without warning, no acceleration and the vsc and engine lights came back on. I have looked on the internet to see if other consumers have experienced this same problem and they have and the outcome was basically the same results, some sensor (not definite) with a return to the initial problem. The code does not pull up the actual problem causing consumers to constantly have different sensors replaced, throttle body, etc. I have also read where a recall was on 1998 vehicles for this problem and I truly believe that this problem was not fully "fixed. " some consumers have battled with Lexus to include their later model vehicles in the recall to be fixed because it is the very same problem!!! after reading other consumer complaints and reviewing the previous recall, I know that this is a very serious default of the manufacturer which is undoubtedly putting consumers in terribly dangerous situations. These incidents happen with no warning! your help in this matter is greatly appreciated.

19 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Lexus GS300

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

2004 Lexus GS 300 has repeated problems with accelerator when pulling out from a stop or attempting to increase speed. After pushing on pedal the car begins to move then stops accelerating. Then surges as pedal continues to be pressed down. I have reported the problem several times to dealership only to be told that Toyota is aware of the problem but there is no resolution after 5 years. Several times I have attempted to pull out from a stop sign as one normally would then forced to push the accelerator to the floor in an attempt to get the vehicle moving to avoid an accident. This is a repeating event and I am forced to pull the efi fuse every 5000 miles which seems to reduce the effect temporarily. Lexus is/has been aware of this problem since there was 6k miles on the vehicle which now has 60k miles and is out of warranty. I am overly cautious and fearful when driving the vehicle. If I need to accelerate to merge into traffic or just normal driving, the vehicle will not respond by accelerating. And I'm also concerned if this is an early symptom that Toyota is having with runaway vehicle acceleration. The Lexus dealership attributed the problem to the ecm and drive by wire mechanism Toyota has employed in this vehicle.

20 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 1998 Lexus GS300

Failure Date: 02/19/2010

When at a stop sign or red light, with my foot on the brake pedal, the car accelerates. I press on the brake pedal and, usually, the acceleration slows down. This happened 3 times in 2 days and the third time the acceleration did not stop, the car really accelerated, I pressed on the brake pedal as hard as I could and the rear tires were smoking so I turned off the key. The dealer had the car for a week and could find no problem. Before I got the car back into my garage, it happened again but not too badly.

21 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2002 Lexus GS300

Failure Date: 01/14/2010

Uncontrolled excessive engine speed up this has happened a few times on two occasions there was high wind from left to right in cold weather. I wonder if the electronic control was fooled. When I complained to the dealer they told me it must be that I was not used to a electronic gas pedal!!!.

22 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2006 Lexus GS300

Failure Date: 10/15/2009

I drive a 2006 Lexus Gs300. Last fall,as I backed out of my parking space - in a building - my car "took off" and hit a cement wall. ( at first, I thought I hit the gas pedal in error however, after what happened next, I knew that was not the case. Fortunately, there were no pedestrians in the parking lot. ) I put the car in drive and it "took off" again. Luckily, I hit a cement parking bumper that stopped me. All this took place in maybe 15 seconds or so. Not realizing there was anything terribly wrong with my car, I steered around the bumper. The car continued to accelerate and I was headed for another cement wall. I was applying my brakes with all my effort and finally I came to a stop a few feet from the wall. Shaking, I drove my car directly to the Lexus dealer and told him what happened. (at that time I used the term "take off" as I hadn't heard about all the acceleration problems) he ran my car through a computer check and assured me that he could find nothing wrong. Several weeks later a friend asked me what kind of car I drove and told me about all the problems Toyota was having. I drove my car back to the dealer and asked him to recheck the car. He did, and again assured me that there were no problems. We bought this car used less than 1 year ago with just 12,000 miles on it. It occurred to me that it was possibly traded in because it had accelerated when the last owner had it. The dealer checked and said there had been no previous acceleration problems. One last bit of info. . . . I'm not really sure the exact month I experienced the problems. And finally, even though I have not had any acceleration problems since last fall, I am still nervous every time I drive my car. Please advise. Thank you.

23 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2000 Lexus GS300

Failure Date: 10/14/2009

Twice in the same day our 2000 Lexus Gs300 experienced acceleration problems similar to those now involved in the International investigation of Toyota products. The acceleration began as the vehicle was stopped. I had to push the brake with great force to keep the vehicle from moving forward. When I placed the car in neutral, the revving of the engine stopped. The floor mat on the driver's side had not been moved and was not interfering with the gas pedal. We called a mechanic we use for the car after the incident to find out whether anything similar had been reported or if Lexus had issued a recall. When we learned that our model vehicle was not indicated as having a problem, we did not do anything further about the problem. We've not had the problem since then. However, I thought it best to report the problem after hearing about very similar issues in other models of toyotas and Lexuses. I'm wondering if the problem extends further than the models and model years now being recalled?.

24 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Lexus GS300

29 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2000 Lexus GS300

Failure Date: 04/24/2007

Bought a 2000 certified pre-owned in 2005 from Lexus dealer. In 2007 on a residential street, a driver was driving very slow and started to pull over. I quickly went around her to pass, at about 35 mph, but after releasing the gas pedal, car sped up instead. Tried to slow down with the brakes, but it sped up more. Then slammed the brake pedal with both feet and put it on park to avoid hitting stopped cars ahead. It stopped in "park" but was still revving high. I got out of the vehicle and it was still revving over 6 rpm! I bent under the dash and tried to loosen the gas pedal with my hand thinking it was stuck but it wouldn't stop revving so I turned the engine off. Before turning engine on again, I made sure no cars were ahead of me and prepared to put it into neutral/park immediately this time. Didn't happen again. Took it to Lexus (see invoice). They couldn't reproduce problem; claimed pedal got stuck in rubber floor mat. I told them I pulled gas pedal with my hand while the car was in park and revving on its own, and pedal was not stuck mat. In 2009 (now with 117k miles) on 60 mph highway when my daughter drove it and floored the pedal to pass someone. After releasing pedal, it accelerated on its own to 95 mph. Fortunately her lane was empty as she tried to slow down with the brakes, but this didn't work. Then she stomped on gas pedal to disengage it. After a minute the acceleration stopped. I called dealer to report the problem. They said the Gs300 was not noted for this and didn't have recall. I still have car but now never floor the pedal and I'm on guard to put it in neutral. I cannot get rid of it because I can't sell it knowing this problem, and I cannot afford another car.
