The contact owns a 2007 Lexus Ls460. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, an abnormal tapping noise would emit from the brakes. The contact declined the repair again and had the vehicle towed to his sister's home. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 111,000.

3 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2019

Experiencing both the dreaded brake actuator assembly issue as well as the very common mark levinson amplifier issue, on model # 0w480. Was in conversation with Lexus customer satisfaction and they are completely unwilling to step in and do the right thing in assisting me with either, or both, problems. I've owned this vehicle for all of 2 months, and although I understand that I bought it used, as-is with higher mileage, I think that since there was a recent warranty enhancement program issued by Lexus on the brake actuator assembly, and also that the failed amplifier is a very, very well-known issue, where the amplifier all of a sudden one day cuts out and all sound is replaced by an incessant chirping noise that's only stopped by pulling the wiring harness on the amp or a fuse, that Lexus should do the right thing by its loyal customers and replace free of charge. But they will not, because exactly like every other company in the entire world, they simply do not care about the customer or their experience. Sorry, but this is the only way I am able to view my experience.

7 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2018

I was driving home at 25mph (without my child) approaching an intersection, when the car in front of me makes a last minute lane change to turn at the intersection, I go to break and it doesn't break, the pedal reacts hard where it's always a soft compression, the dash lights up flashing the message "break malfunction" "check abs, check vsc, check brake system, not to drive vehicle due to system failure, contact deal immediately". I coast down the road and upon breaking again the whole car shakes making steering and especially turning very difficult. I take it 5mph the rest of the way and once home and parked, I try to restart the vehicle. When depressing the brake to activate the electric start, the break kicked back and the car would not start. I had the vehicle towed to the dealer it was purchased from. The dealer did confirm it was the break actuator assembly (l-sb-0178-09) that had been issued a special warranty (policy bulletin 16-01) with a 10 year term from purchase date. Unfortunately the issue had not been taken care of with the original owner and then became a problem 8 months after I made the purchase. . . Which is now out of the special warranty term. I am currently working to resolve the issue and hope Lexus will help cover the $2600 repair. More importantly I am hoping it becomes a recall because of the safety issue. I can't imagine what would of happened if I was on the freeway.

20 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2014

During low speed braking. There is a buzzing noise/vibration coming from the brake pedal and engine compartment. I am pretty certain, but not 100% that when this noise is present, my braking ability is diminished. It is a very unsettling feeling when it does happen and it seems to be happening with greater frequency.

21 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2014

The vehicle makes a noise when braking and pulses. Upon investigation at the dealership I was told that it was a faulty brake abs actuator. Because the vehicle is out of warranty Lexus will not cover the $3000 replacement. Lexus is fully aware of the issue and put out a technical bulletin for the repair. Even though the brakes are a safety component Lexus refuses to consider this for a recall. After recalling all those floor mats when they couldn't find any issue causing rapid acceleration you would think Lexus would recall a known flaw with the abs brake actuator.

22 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2014

The vehicle dashboard comes up with several warnings. 1) check vsc system. 2) check pcs system. 3)check abs. 4) brake malfunction. 5) check brake system. It says to pull over and to not drive the vehicle. Lexus diagnosed my vehicle as needing to have the brake actuator replaced at a cost of nearly $3500! the dealer said that they had already replaced several of these on this model vehicle in just the past few months. After looking online, I found that there are a lot of Lexus owners with the exact same problem that occurred in my vehicle, with some owners already having the part replaced twice! this is obviously an ongoing problem. Lexus have since made a newer, improved version of the part. There was also a tsib (technical service information bulletin) issued on December 2, 2009 for "brake actuator knock noise" l-sb-0178-09 Lexus are now covering this part for 48 months or 50,000 miles. I believe strongly that there should be more done as this is a very serious problem that is a known defect. A safety recall is necessary before someone gets seriously injured or killed as a result of this know defect. This is a huge safety concern for me as this is our family vehicle that we drive on trips and it is used as a daily driver for my wife and child.

23 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2011

Heard squawk or barking noise when releasing brake pedal when backing out of garage. After a couple of weeks the noise was getting worse and brakes felt spongy. Dealer verified the noise: engine compartment - 41672 tech found noise coming from brake actuator - will need to bleed brakes and go from there - possible brake actuator may be needed dealer did "special" brake bleed procedure "bleed brakes per tsib brake bleed procedure tsib l - sb - 0069 - 09". At 48335 miles the issue returned "ongoing concern - we bled brakes before for same concern - brakes squawking update/goodwill per sm performed special brake bleed - 48335 bleed brakes, now pedal is firmer and no abnormal noises heard - goodwill per service manager". At 62356 miles the issue returned "inspected & duplicated noise concern. Performed special brake bleed procedure" . My vehicle is now at 69,996 miles and I am again having the same issue.

24 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2011

The contact owns a 2007 Lexus Ls460. The contact stated that the emergency brake control button only engaged while depressed; and he had to hold the button the entire time the vehicle was in motion. When the vehicle was stationary, the button would remain engaged. The contact believed that the control button should release if pressed twice. The diagnostic test did not produce a failure code however; the dealer repaired the bushings and the upper control arms. The vehicle continued to experience the same failure after the repairs were performed. The failure mileage was 17,000 and the current mileage was 19,000.

26 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2008

A driver of the Ls460 series for 16 years. New car every 3 years. My 2007 Ls460 was the 3rd car at a red light when it began to accelerate with my foot on the brake. Mild 2nd episode 2/7/2009 took all of my energy to hold the car from smashing into the 2 cars ahead of me. Shifted in neutral and then park. Car finally stopped. Took the car to my hospital parking lot. Lexus dealer picked-up the car and kept it for 2 weeks. Told nothing wrong. Was then sent to a hearing with the national center for dispute settlement. The Lexus engineer stated that no electrical fault was documented on the computer. The ruling was against me as " it only happened once". I wrote to the president of Lexus offering to switch cars with him. No response. I do not allow my wife to drive this car. Do not drive with my grandchildren in this car. I limit my driving in this car and stay a great distance behind vehicles in front of me. Have called the manager of my dealership 11 times to get a final answer- that "he could do nothing for me". The Lexus people are well aware of my incident have letters from them.
