40 Service Brakes problem of the 2009 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 10/30/2015

Dashboard recently had 5 warning light lit up warning of check abs, check vsc system, check brake system, check brake hold system, and brake malfunction, with the following additional warning below the above five items "stop the vehicle in a safe place immediately. Contact dealer". I was a few blocks away from where my car is serviced (not a dealer) and they diagnosed the following fault codes: c1241 abs main relay power source open, and c1391 anti-lock brake actuator & electrical control unit. The cost to repair this is $2,300! my car has a pampered 72,262 miles and is garage kept. My repair shop, jc automotive here in st petersburg FL when calling around to locate the replacement part was quite surprised to find a jacksonville FL dealer has 35 in stock. John celona, owner of jc auto told me this means they must be replacing many of this item because in no way would a dealer stock this many of this part. If Lexus is replacing so many of this part there should be a recall. Reading the Lexus forum and other online Lexus sites, this problem occurs as early as 12,000 miles and is a covered warranty item. I will contact Lexus about his issue also. I hope you will investigate and consider making this a recall item. I have attached five photos. The vehicle was stationary and the lights appeared immediately after starting the engine.

43 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 04/06/2015

44 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 03/21/2015

While braking gradually to a stoplight, with the brake pedal in a steady position, the car lurches/pulses to a stop. This has happened on multiple occasions at low speeds, where it feels like the driver is pressing the brake and letting go, and pressing again, but in reality, the brakes are being pressed at a constant pressure. The car takes longer to brake than the driver intends, since the brakes slowly pulse. This is different than the abs feeling, as the brake pedal does not travel beneath the driver's foot, and the release and grabbing of the brakes seem very slow.

45 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 02/25/2015

Brakes making ticking noise when backing.

46 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 02/24/2015

I noticed that when I push the brakes I hear clicking noise and brakes acts heavily. I did a research on this issue and I found many complaints from Lexus owners. Some owners were lucky to have Lexus dealer replace the abs actuator for them and other not. Lexus dealers told some Ls460 owners that they changed the vendor of the abs actuator due a malfunction error. Currently I'm concerned to drive the car on the highway as a fear to loose braking power. I tried to contact Lexus but they don't care. Please help ahmed hassanin mechanical engineer 513-704-1315.

49 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 11/03/2014

I am experiencing a click or series of clicks when I depress the brake pedal. Based on accounts and research of other owners, this is a common problem with faulty brake actuators. It appears that Lexus is aware of the situation and I wanted to report this to the NHTSA database to potentially steer this towards a recall.

50 Service Brakes problem of the 2007 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 10/29/2014

During low speed braking. There is a buzzing noise/vibration coming from the brake pedal and engine compartment. I am pretty certain, but not 100% that when this noise is present, my braking ability is diminished. It is a very unsettling feeling when it does happen and it seems to be happening with greater frequency.

51 Service Brakes problem of the 2009 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 10/27/2014

From a complete stop or an abrupt brake pedal press and release there is a very loud rumble from the front end of the car. It is a rumble or creaking noise and does not inspire cconfidence in the braking system of this vehicle.

52 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 08/28/2014

I drove my car over to pick my granson up we went to the park, when I was taking him home the vsc code came on and said take care to dealer for service, engine light came on as well. I call and made an apointment immediately and they told me to leave the vehicle and they would run diagnostics see what was causing it. The next day they cleared the code called and told me to pick up. When I was leaving the same lights came on again (engine, vsc etc). Got out of the car and told service rep. That the same thing was happening again. I left the car over the weekend and they call and said it was a communication error and the computer wasn't communicating with the parking brake. I truly believe this is a safety issue and should be addressed by the manufacturer.

53 Service Brakes problem of the 2007 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 08/11/2014

The vehicle makes a noise when braking and pulses. Upon investigation at the dealership I was told that it was a faulty brake abs actuator. Because the vehicle is out of warranty Lexus will not cover the $3000 replacement. Lexus is fully aware of the issue and put out a technical bulletin for the repair. Even though the brakes are a safety component Lexus refuses to consider this for a recall. After recalling all those floor mats when they couldn't find any issue causing rapid acceleration you would think Lexus would recall a known flaw with the abs brake actuator.

54 Service Brakes problem of the 2007 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 05/05/2014

The vehicle dashboard comes up with several warnings. 1) check vsc system. 2) check pcs system. 3)check abs. 4) brake malfunction. 5) check brake system. It says to pull over and to not drive the vehicle. Lexus diagnosed my vehicle as needing to have the brake actuator replaced at a cost of nearly $3500! the dealer said that they had already replaced several of these on this model vehicle in just the past few months. After looking online, I found that there are a lot of Lexus owners with the exact same problem that occurred in my vehicle, with some owners already having the part replaced twice! this is obviously an ongoing problem. Lexus have since made a newer, improved version of the part. There was also a tsib (technical service information bulletin) issued on December 2, 2009 for "brake actuator knock noise" l-sb-0178-09 Lexus are now covering this part for 48 months or 50,000 miles. I believe strongly that there should be more done as this is a very serious problem that is a known defect. A safety recall is necessary before someone gets seriously injured or killed as a result of this know defect. This is a huge safety concern for me as this is our family vehicle that we drive on trips and it is used as a daily driver for my wife and child.

55 Service Brakes problem of the 2013 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 03/03/2014

3 sets of brakes and 3 other brake repairs in 24,000 miles, beginning within 3 months of ownership. Lexus says that this is a "normal operating characteristic of the vehicle" after we asked them to fix them, and went through their lemon law process. Brakes either squeal loudly or grab tight and shudder.

56 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 07/17/2013

The contact owns a 2008 Lexus Ls460. The contact heard an abnormal noise when the brake pedal was depressed. The dealer stated that the brake actuator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 75,000.

57 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 06/25/2013

We had lack of power engine and steering problems in the past with this vehicle. We filed a lemon law and supposedly they fixed it. Now the pcs, vsc, anti skid, air bags, brakes, anti-lock brakes and other alarms came on again. This time the beeping sound is not on continuously but the alarms are on all the time. The power assist on the breaks and the anti-lock brake stopped working all of a sudden. We noted the rear driver side window works ok, the front driver side window does not go up or down automatically you have to keep the button pressed, the front and rear passenger windows do not go down all the way and when they go up they bounce back half the way. We changed the battery thinking that was the problem but the problem continued. We inspected the fluid levels and all breaks and all other fluids levels are ok. At this time we are very scared of this vehicle since the breaks can stop working anytime. If you know it is doing it you can drive extremely careful and very slowly, but the problem can appear anytime. If the breaks stop working when you really need them it could be fatal. We sent the vehicle for inspection the first time, but the alarms went away and everything went normal again. This second time the alarms and all malfunctions stayed until we brought the vehicle to the dealer. The brakes' assist stopped working all of a sudden, the anti lock breaks and stability control stopped working this second time without notice. I have never seen something as dangerous as this issue in any car we have owned or driven in my life. There is a main design issue. The breaks and all systems should not simply stop working while you are driving. I search the internet and there are many other people with the same intrinsic problem. We video taped the problem and took pictures if you need them, please email me or contact me.

58 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 03/19/2013

The contact owns a 2010 Lexus Ls460. While driving 65 mph, the steering wheel began to shake and vibrate when the contact depressed the brake pedal. Lexus of westminster in westminster, California diagnosed that the brakes were worn. The brakes were replaced, but the failure recurred. Auto clinic of irvine, California, a non-Lexus dealer, performed a diagnostic test and determined that the vehicle was included in TSB: l-sb-0036-15 rev, but the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and stated that, although the vehicle was repaired once by a Lexus dealer, a Lexus diagnostic must be performed on the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle was under warranty for 100,000 miles until February 28, 2016 or until the mileage cap was reached. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

59 Service Brakes problem of the 2009 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 02/22/2012

Braking, at times, is irregular, during normal operating conditions. Feels as if the braking system is misreading data. Took car to Lexus dealer about 2-2. 5 months ago and told rotors were a bit warped. Dealer turned rotors and said everything should be fine. Problem did not fully resolve. About a week ago, noticed same issues and returned to dealer who informed me that the rotors needed turning again and that they could see a depression on one rotor made from the brake pad. I was informed that the rotors can get hot in traffic and I likely pressed too hard on them in traffic. However, this occurred during the months of mid-February through April and climate has been moderate. Between these two visits, I had driven approximately 4k miles and I have not ridden brakes unduly hard. After most recent visit to dealer, braking is not always smooth and feels like a control module is not calibrating the braking pressure correctly causing improper pressure on rotors and periodic irregularity when braking.

60 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 05/09/2011

Waiting in line at costco to get fuel. Pulled approx 2 to 3 feet from vehicle in front. I engaged the auto parking brake while waiting. Next thing the brake dis-engaged and car lunged forward hitting the car in front of me and the car in front of that vehicle before I had time to hit the brake. Damage to Lexus is $7000 no estimates on damage to other cars. Other drivers reported and getting medical attention.

61 Service Brakes problem of the 2007 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 04/01/2011

Heard squawk or barking noise when releasing brake pedal when backing out of garage. After a couple of weeks the noise was getting worse and brakes felt spongy. Dealer verified the noise: engine compartment - 41672 tech found noise coming from brake actuator - will need to bleed brakes and go from there - possible brake actuator may be needed dealer did "special" brake bleed procedure "bleed brakes per tsib brake bleed procedure tsib l - sb - 0069 - 09". At 48335 miles the issue returned "ongoing concern - we bled brakes before for same concern - brakes squawking update/goodwill per sm performed special brake bleed - 48335 bleed brakes, now pedal is firmer and no abnormal noises heard - goodwill per service manager". At 62356 miles the issue returned "inspected & duplicated noise concern. Performed special brake bleed procedure" . My vehicle is now at 69,996 miles and I am again having the same issue.

62 Service Brakes problem of the 2007 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 03/02/2011

The contact owns a 2007 Lexus Ls460. The contact stated that the emergency brake control button only engaged while depressed; and he had to hold the button the entire time the vehicle was in motion. When the vehicle was stationary, the button would remain engaged. The contact believed that the control button should release if pressed twice. The contact notified the manufacturer who stated that the vehicle was designed in that manner. The VIN was unavailable. The current and failure mileages were 64,721.

63 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 02/18/2011

In oct of 2011 brakes would seem to lock up for no apparent reason. . . I took Lexus to dealer and they could not establish any reason. . . . This would happen, several times, again and after stopping would clear up and drive normally. The last time it stopped dead while driving in city traffic at around 30 mph several dash lights came on such as; abs, vsc, check brakes, brake malfunction. I was able to get car to go again and took it to torrence Lexus for their inspection. . . They are working on now. . . . My wife will not drive the car for fear of the brakes locking up at high speeds. . . . I'm getting to that point myself.

64 Service Brakes problem of the 2007 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 08/15/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Lexus Ls460. The contact stated that when driving 15 mph and under and simultaneously applying the brakes, there was a loud banging noise coming from the front end of the vehicle. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer and they stated that the failure was abnormal and performed a diagnostic. The diagnostic test did not produce a failure code however; the dealer repaired the bushings and the upper control arms. The vehicle continued to experience the same failure after the repairs were performed. The failure mileage was 17,000 and the current mileage was 19,000.

65 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 04/05/2009

Pulsating brakes uneven braking resulting in a lurching motion when stopping.

66 Service Brakes problem of the 2007 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 11/03/2008

A driver of the Ls460 series for 16 years. New car every 3 years. My 2007 Ls460 was the 3rd car at a red light when it began to accelerate with my foot on the brake. Mild 2nd episode 2/7/2009 took all of my energy to hold the car from smashing into the 2 cars ahead of me. Shifted in neutral and then park. Car finally stopped. Took the car to my hospital parking lot. Lexus dealer picked-up the car and kept it for 2 weeks. Told nothing wrong. Was then sent to a hearing with the national center for dispute settlement. The Lexus engineer stated that no electrical fault was documented on the computer. The ruling was against me as " it only happened once". I wrote to the president of Lexus offering to switch cars with him. No response. I do not allow my wife to drive this car. Do not drive with my grandchildren in this car. I limit my driving in this car and stay a great distance behind vehicles in front of me. Have called the manager of my dealership 11 times to get a final answer- that "he could do nothing for me". The Lexus people are well aware of my incident have letters from them.

67 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 03/14/2008

We've purchased a 2008 Lexus 460 on Jan 2008, within few months we started noticing a jerking reaction of the engine while the car was stopped or idling in gear most of the time. Over time we've taken the car to the dealer (at least 4 times) with no substantial improvements, they've upgraded the transmission software checked it out and could not come up with a fix. The last was in November 09 and we were told to contact the CO. Fo factory rep to inspect the car. So far they have not inspected the car and we are afraid that it may cause to an accident.
