Transmission in my 1999 Lexus Rx300 failed prematurely at 110,000. I have read that there are numerous complaints with this model's transmission and feel that Lexus should reimburse me for the $4000+ repair charges.

At 80,000 our 1999 Lexus Rx 300 transmission had to be replaced for $3,500. Now at 144,000 the transmission needs to be replaced again for $4,000.
My 2000 Lexus Rx300 transmission does not shift to higher gear. I purchased and used the car in USA until 09/2004 and then shipped it to bahrain. It is still in bahrain. How to get it fixed with no cost? since it is manufacturer failure.

In 2001 complainant bought new Rx 300. In accordance with scheduled maintenance all work has been done. No evidence of a possible transmission problem until Saturday while merging on interstate vehicle would not shift/accelerator beyond 30 mpg. Immediately exit highway drove home. Parked vehicle for couple hours drove to store through city streets then on the way home vehicle would not go beyond 20 mph. Exited off main street. Made the turn then vehicle completely stopped moving. It is obviously a hazardous and dangerous situation when the vehicle completely stops moving, or does not accelerate while merging. Although no person was injured the potential of injury is great. I took the vehicle to the Lexus dealer to hear that it is in fact a transmission problem that needs replacement for 4k. There should be a recall on this defective item or a class action lawsuit filed.

Hesitant shifting was noticed infrequently for a day or two. Then upon startup was unable to shift into reverse until accelerator was depressed very far. At that point transmission jarred into reverse and began backing, then tried to shift back into drive and upon driving forward a loud grinding was heard. Dealer investigated and says it will need full replacement of the transmission for $5500.
The contact owns a 2000 Lexus Rx300. While driving under 20 mph, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle did not lose power, but it failed to move. When the contact placed the gear in drive or reverse, the engine would rev but the vehicle would not move. The vehicle was towed to a dealer and they stated that the failure was uncommon and that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle remains at the dealer. The failure and current mileages were 76,000.
Transmission.
2000 Lexus Rx300. The transmission went out unexpectedly at 126,000 miles. I have several other vehicles (maxima 292,000+ miles, silverado 1500 p/u 120,000+ miles and Honda accord 240,000+ miles ) and none of the what is supposed to be inferior cars have had any sort of transmission problems. But a Lexus , which is supposed to mean quality, goes out at only 126,000. According to recent research on the Lexusclubowners. Com forum it appears that the Rx300's and the 330's are plagued with transmission problems that should be addressed by the Lexus corporation.
The transmission on my Rx 300 year 1999 went out.
The contact owns a 2000 Lexus Rx300. While sitting at a stop light the driver smelled smoke. The smoke was present in the transmission , and there was a loss of transmission fluid. The mechanic diagnosed the vehicle as needing a new transmission. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The current and failure mileage were 101,000.
I have a Lexus Rx300. It is a 2000 with 58,000 miles. The transmission went out and Lexus refuses to fix it under warranty (claiming its 6 year or 70,000 miles). Now that I am doing research, it appears that this is a major problem with the Rx300. It appears they have faulty transmissions. I am hoping you can help. The forums seem to indicate that if we file reports, hopefully there will be a recall or some sort of legal claim. The Lexus of santa monica want to charge me $4,800, they offered a 10% discount.
The contact owns a 2000 Lexus Rx300. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled and could not drive in reverse. When driving forward at 32 mph the vehicle stalled again. The motor was running but the vehicle was immobile. The vehicle was towed to the mechanic , who diagnosed the failure as the transmission. The current mileage is 76,500 ,and failure mileage was 75,500.
Lexus Rx 300 transmission began to fail.
Recently took my car in and found out that my transmission had gone out after 108,000 miles and would be $4200 to replace rebuild. After researching about the Lexus Rx300 1999 model I am finding out there are several problems with this vehicles transmission .
2000 model Lexus Rx300 with 75000 miles. Transmission went out after spending a week in a cold (never abover freezing) parking lot. Lexus dealer is claiming that the fluid needed to be replaced every 20k miles, although the user manual clearly states that under normal usage the transmission fluid does not need to be replaced. The transmission went out while driving, and no forward or reverse engagment was possible. Lexus is quoting 5200 for a complete rebuilt (not even new) transmission. I have owned many cars and this is the first transmission problem I have ever had, and with many fewer miles than my other cars.
2000 Rx300 with 111000 miles. Oil changes were conducted at every 1500 miles and every major service was done as recommended. Transmission completely died on the highway with no warning signs.
Two days after purchasing a 2007 Lexus Rx350, I gave my 1999 Lexus Rx 300 which has 103,000 miles on it to my daughter. She drove the car 300 miles home to dallas only to have the transmission begin to balk at going into reverse the next day. The transmission place wants $4000 to rebuild the transmission, and there is also a bad rattle in the front end of the vehicle that I fear to find out what it may be. I bought this car partly for Lexus's reputation for reliability. I have had minor things go wrong with it, among those an oil gasket that cost $1500 to replace in the oil pan and multiple bouts of O2 sensors and air flow meters going out or needing to be cleaned. Still I expected to drive the car for 250,000 miles because of the reputation. Now I don't know what to do. My daughter loves the car, but can't afford these costly repairs. I wouldn't feel right selling the car to an unsuspecting stranger either. I think Lexus should stand behind this car and reimburse my costs for items like transmission and front end repairs that should be something that should not go out at this mileage.
While driving my 1999 Rx300 on the highway, the transmission went out on me. I felt I was losing power and decided to pull over on the shoulder. I then try to turn off my engine to see if restarting it back up will resolve the issue. When I start the car back up and put it on drive, the car will not move. Needless to say I had to call a tow to tow my car back home.
Transmission in 1999 Lexus Rx300 failed on major highway. Managed to pull off into a gas station and await a tow truck. Car completely stalled. Would not go back or forward. Had to put in a new transmission at a cost of $4,016. 22. The car had 87,387 miles. In speaking with the person doing the repair, this was the 4th time that month that a transmission had to be replaced on a '99 Rx 300 Lexus that had low mileage. Car had been properly serviced. Different websites state that this is a design defect in the Rx 300 model. In speaking with Lexus customer support, they claimed that there was nothing that could be done in the way of helping to cover the cost. Coincidentally, a member of my family had the same thing happened in 2005 to a Rx 300 with mileage at 75,000 and Lexus covered the transmission part.
Failed transmission 2000 Rx300 Lexus miles 72000 I was told that this was the first of its kind at victory Toyota seaside CA and the mechanics had never seen this before I was perusing regular maintenance schedules for the Rx300 and found roughly 20 some failed transmissions listed on the 1999 and 2000 models. Toyota is not taking responsibility for this crappy design but it was mentioned that the next year the design was improved!! we also paid 7000$ for the job and other folks paid on the order of 4000.
: the contact stated while attempting to place the vehicle into the drive gear the automatic transmission control module failed. Neither the drive nor reverse gear could be engaged. The vehicle was unable to move and was towed to the dealership. Upon inspection, the dealership discovered metal particles in the transmission oil. The diagnosis indentified that the transmission was lubricated with metal shavings and other contaminants therefore the entire transmission system would need to be replaced.
Vehicle was parked with transmission in park and emergency brake engaged. While unattended the vehicle started moving forward slowly, I (the driver) jumped into front seat to apply the foot brake and pedal went to floor (no brakes!) vehicle could not be stopped and ran in to the wall of my garage.

The transmission on my 1999 Lexus Rx 300 needed to be replaced with only 70,000 miles on the car. I have also had to replace the struts, the radio antenna motor and have a major oil leak repaired.
Transmission problems (hunting for gears, jerking and hesitation) on a 2005 Lexus Rx330 - awd. Have experienced near accidents due to vehicle hesitation when merging into traffic, crossing intersections, or making turns. When depressing accelerator, vehicles hesitates for 3-5 seconds. Have had "flash" service done to ecu. Same issues still exist.

My transmission on my 1999 Rx300 completely gave out on me after my car had been serviced regularly. It was out of warranty and I had to pay for half of the repairs. After researching this issue, I've found tons of customers who experienced the same failure with the Rx300. It is criminal that nothing has been done about this sooner. . Read more...
I'm encountering the same transmission hesitation , jumping and revving when shifting in the lower gears as many others have reported. I have had the software update without effect. The dealer now is insulting me by claiming the use of regular gas may be the cause.

: the contact stated while driving 10 mph on normal road conditions, the automatic transmission hesitated when making the shift from first to second gear and from second to third gear as well. There were no warning lights indicating a failure in the automatic transmission. The vehicle had been taken seven times to the dealership where the software had been reset several times however, the defect was not corrected. The manufacturer was not alerted. The contact was very concerned because there was no satisfactory resolution.
