The contact owns a 2009 Lexus Rx 350. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine compartment with the check engine oil warning light illuminated. The failure had occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed, and it was determined that the oil cooler hose was leaking due to a hole. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to a different independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that the oil cooler hose was leaking due to a hole. The vehicle was not repaired. A dealer was contacted and informed that there was no recall associated with the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The manufacturer made the contact aware of the limited service campaign number: lsc9lh. The failure mileage was approximately 190,000.

When coming from a stop, the car will not respond to the gas pedal being engaged or it will begin to engage and then no response leaving the car rolling for a few seconds until a response is recieved and the car engages again. This has caused us to be put in harms way many times with oncoming traffic when making turns or in front of oncoming traffic in intersections. The dealer states this is not a known issue however it is all over the internet that hundreds of reports of this issue have been made. The dealer states no fix since they don't "have a problem". Major safety issue. We have reported this many times to Lexus now with no resolve or help from them.

I made a 6-mile trip from my garage and back (12 miles total). The next day, my neighbor asked me to come outside to inspect my driveway where I found a trailing stream of oil. The oil leak was substantial enough to visibly observe an unbroken ribbon of oil spanning the entire length of the asphalt street leading to my driveway and a large pool of oil where I waited momentarily for the garage door to open. Needless to say, I then discovered a large pool of oil under the front of the engine on the passenger side. It was the lower oil cooling line. No warning signal appeared reflecting the leak or low oil pressure. I remembered receiving a letter from Lexus corporate stating that this was a known defective part and could be repaired at the dealer at no cost to me. However, the caveat was that the age of the car could not exceed 10 years and the mileage 150,000. My mileage was only 106,400, but the car age exceeded the 10 year limit. Did Lexus think that the defective part would magically heal itself after 10 years? why put a limit? Lexus would not assist me in any way, so I had the repair completed at an independent shop. I only repaired one side and now fear the other side will go out and the leak will not be discovered in time before blowing up the engine. I'm white-knuckle driving in a car I used to love. I'm extremely disappointed in the lack of "good-will" provided by Lexus for a known defective part (a rubber hose, replaced with a metal one) because they would not stand behind their product. Loyalty is a delicate trait, and they have lost mine.

When accelerating at slow speed, the engine or turbo turns off which causes the nose of the car to take a hard nose dive and then turns back on within 1 second but results in a big loud sound coming from engine/transmission. This issue almost caused on accident because it does a hard engine break where I was almost rear ended but from other drivers perspective, it might seem that I’m break checking them. Showed car to Lexus but they said it is normal but it not normal and should be investigated as it can cause harm to everyone involved if accident were to occur. Situation occurred 3 times this week and it is entirely random and can’t replicate at will.
I bought this vehicle last Thursday, the new Lexus we only drove it three times, but all power down. The first time we were about to go to work, the whole vehicle no power, so I checked the battery, it was 10 volts, so I used my crv battery turned on Rx350, it's working, second time, when I arrived my work place, I turned off the new vehicle, the whole power down again, after I checked the battery, it showed 12 volts, after I checked the battery, the power came back. The third time, after working, I got totally locked outside the Rx350, I tried so so many times, the whole power was gone again, so I broke the handle and used the key get into the car, and checked the battery, still 12 volts, after my checking battery, the power back again! so I am sure it's not only the battery problem, but also power management module something wrong with it, or a module named 89690-0e011 is damaged , I am very sure the new Rx350h needs very very professional technician repair, this vehicle has serious safety hazards and poses a threat to life and safety.

Pot affects 2007-2011 Rx350/450= 459,285 units. 1. on Friday, [xxx], the oil cooler pipe burst on our 2010 Rx350. 2. all six quarts of engine oil were lost in approximately 700 feet while traveling at 70–75 mph on the highway. 3. Massive amounts of smoke poured from the front of the vehicle & through the air vents, causing my wife & daughter to fear for their safety due to risk of a fire & smoke inhalation. 4. no warning lights appeared on the dash, meaning the vehicle could easily have been driven to engine failure had there been no smoke. 5. 2 colorado department of transportation vehicles & a state trooper stopped to be sure they were ok & monitor the risk of a fire. 8. towed & Lexus dealership confirmed seen many 3rd gen Rxs with this same issue, some with seized engines because no dash warnings were triggered. 9. Lexus updated part from rubber to stee, acknowledging design flaw. major safety concerns this failure represents a serious safety risk that could have resulted in fire, injury, death, or catastrophic engine/property damage. - oil spray on hot engine components like the headers & exhaust pipes (700-1100f) poses a legitimate fire hazard considering oil flashpoint (400-700f). - oil sprayed onto the brakes increased the risk of loss of braking & traction control in sudden/emergency maneuvers. - engine seizing/stop due to loss of oil could result in an accident if the vehicle stops suddenly on the highway when it seizes, loses control, or the electric steering, braking &/or other safety systems fail. - if this had occurred on a mountain descent from the rockies into denver or any other long descent, a fire caused by oil spraying on 700-800f brake rotors or loss of control could have occurred. - entire underside of the vehicle is coated in oil, contaminating the rear brakes, potentially damaging wiring, solenoids, & other safety-critical components, as well as representing an additional fire risk due to oil on the exhaust pipe. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of informatio.

I have a 2022 Lexus Rx350 f sport. There are many complaints for this problem with this era of Lexus that happen daily. When pulling out into traffic the vehicle stutters or hesitates; this could cause a serious accident with injuries or death. I think it is a problem with the transmission shift programming. In an attempt to be fuel efficient, Lexus created a serious safety problem in my opinion. My car is under warranty, I brought it to the dealer and they said that is normal and a known issue with that era of Lexus; there is no fix or repair. Despite being under warranty, I paid to have the transmission system reset to learn my style of driving. The reset had no effect positive or negative. There were 750,000 Lexus Rx's made between 2016 and 2022. Nearly all are affected by this problem. Note: Lexus Rx450 hybrid uses a different transmission and likely does not have this problem. Please force Lexus to find a fix for this likely injurious, potentially deadly issue. Gemini ai reports this as a very common problem with this generation of Lexus Rx. Https:xxx I know it may have been helpful to have had a crash, injury, or fatality to help bolster my argument, but isn't the point to avoid that? please don't let a numbers game cause more injuries or deaths. This is a known wide-scale problem that Lexus is not fixing. Thank you for your consideration. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

My vehicle caught fire a few days after being repaired by a licensed repair shop in California. ?the repair was performed brodie's tire & automotive?address: 1276 petaluma blvd n, petaluma, CA 94952?phone: [xxx] after the fire, the repair shop admitted in writing that: • the intake manifold melted after the fire?• the engine became “not repairable”?• the fire occurred shortly after their repair?• they offered to “fix it for free,” which indicates awareness of responsibility the fire caused severe heat damage to the engine compartment, electrical wiring, and surrounding components. The vehicle became unsafe to drive, and the engine can no longer operate. This incident presents a serious safety hazard because the fire happened shortly after a repair that involved components near the engine and fuel system. Improper or unsafe repair work may cause similar fires for other consumers. This incident is already under active investigation • California department of insurance (cdi) – complaint #xxx• California bureau of automotive repair (dca/bar) – case xxx I am reporting this to NHTSA because the fire and melted engine components indicate a dangerous defect tied to improper repair work, which may pose a risk to other drivers. When removing foot from gas pedal the rpm shoot up to almost 4k instead of switching to ev mode or dropping to 1k rpm’s. This has scared my wife causing her to slam on brakes as she thought throttle was stuck since the rpm’s shot up. This is dangerous. It doesn’t happen all the time and Lexus did duplicate it but said was normal.

3 months before the accident the power steering light came on twice and went off. The day of the accident the brake light came on when I started the car that day. It disappeared when I was put in drive. I was entering onto the highway to merge with the traffic. Another car waiting for the light to turn green so he could enter also. My car didn’t stop because my brakes failed and the collision avoidance system didn’t work either. No sounds nor warnings. I have photos of the message that was displayed on the dashboard. Tried sending photos but it didn’t work.

The contact owns a 2025 Lexus Rx350h. The contact stated that while coming to a stop, the brake pedal and accelerator pedal were both depressed simultaneously. The contact stated that there was a loud sound coming from the engine compartment. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact forcefully depressed the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 119.
When we purchased this car in June 2024 it did not have an engine revving issue. The engine, electrical or transmission maybe all of them have serious safety issues! when driving and you let off the gas pedal the engine starts revving very loudly, it scares the heck out of you because you don't know if you can stop! I have a serious mechanical background, there is always the possibility of the transmission not disengaging and forcing the car not to stop! this issue is very dangerous and scary! we get very nervous driving a car we paid almost 70k for! yes reported to the dealer mungenast Lexus of st. Louis, yes they have duplicated the issues. After keeping our car now on two different occasions for weeks at a time they went to Lexus engineers who are now trying to say its normal! if so, why didn't it start doing the revving until there were thousands of miles on the car! this is a cover up! not been inspected by the manufacturer yet, they only spoke with them. No reason for police or insurance yet. No, there has never been a check engine light appear. The only other thing the car did, after the first time of it revving like this it died when we were pulling out in traffic, it didn't die it actually shut off! this has only happened the one time, it shutting off, can it do it again you bet! these cars are dangerous, I hope nobody has to die to prove this!.
The engine shuts off for a second while driving.

1. Engine timing cover leaking 2. Oil could leak out emptying which could cause the engine to stop working at any given time 3. Problem has been confirmed by hennessy Lexus dealership in duluth, GA but they will not fix it. 4. Vehicle has been inspected by the dealership 5. No signs, I found out from the dealership after taking it in for an oil change.
From what I have been reading on that year and model, there seems to be major issues with the invertors. Like many I was driving on the highway and the vehicle just quits. This put me and many others in a very dangerous situation and I could have been hit at high rates of speed. If as many people are having these issues, then Lexus needs to step up and recall this part before someone gets killed.

When I start to coast to come to a stop the engine will rev, even though the energy flow screen shows the gas engine is disengaged and running only on ev. The engine will rev, even with me using the brake. But the ev light is off and the rpms are rising. Eventually the ev light will come on and the gas engine will cut off and the vehicle will switch to ev mode. My mpg has dropped to 36. 2, so something is not right. When I was at the dealer for my 10k service, they told me this was the car "shedding" the extra energy, but the battery was not fully charged, so I'm perplexed and frustrated.
Vvt-I oil line failure. Limited service campaign ended in Dec 2021. No notice sent, no repairs suggested at the dealership within the eligible period. Vvt-I failed and engine lost all oil in minutes while driving, coating the front passenger brake caliper and rendering the breaking dangerously difficult on the passenger side on the highway.

When I was driving down the road there have been times that I smelled smoke and was concerned my car was on fire. I checked the oil and inspected around my car, and didn't find the source. Today when I took my car in for service I found out the source of the smoke has been for the past 4 months. There is engine oil leaking from the timing cover that I was informed by my Lexus dealership today would cost $7,000 (approximate) to fix. I researched online and found that all vehicles with this particular engine are known to have this problem, and it is fairly common. Leaking oil can be a fire hazard, and it seems unacceptable that Lexus/Toyota let this issue continue without addressing it with a recall. Thanks for your time, and I have also sent a similar letter to Lexus also to let them know of my concern.

Below is the email that I sent to both the manufacturer and the dealership: I hope your christmas eve was better than mine. My son and I were driving up to the poconos christmas eve to go skiing and I noticed the sonar detection light come on. When we were driving back from the poconos, the transmission would not catch around the second or third gear. The rpms would shoot up. The dash / warning lights lit up. I pulled over to the side of the road and I called Lexus dealership, service center, and road side assistance. However, due to the fact that it was christmas eve, the offices were closed. I managed to make it to my parent’s home, but it was a very dangerous ride on rt. 80. The odometer stated that we were going 50 mph, but we were crawling and the rpms were 4000. The rpms at rest were always over 1000. Additionally at times, the gear would not shift into second or third and/or bottom out. Obviously the transmission is beyond malfunctioning. Below are pictures including: 1. ) check your engine: a malfunction in the electric control of the engine, throttle or automatic transmission has been detected. . . 2. ) a malfunction in the intelligent clearance, sonar system has been detected 3. ) traction control turned off 4. ) secondary collision break system malfunction, 5. ) system malfunction 6. ) drive-start control malfunction. The vehicle has just over 3000 miles. I am beyond distraught. My phone number is (908) 625-9277. However, I think it's best if we communicate through email at this point. I planned a family ski trip to killington, vt for the new year. I would like to request a loaner vehicle so I can salvage this holiday. I look forward to hearing from you and your service department.
The power steering and hybrid system failed and vehicle completely stopped in middle of busy freeway with no prior warnings or issues before. The safety of my son and I, and others around me during the abrupt stop of the engine. I could not move out of way. The vehicle has been serviced for this exact issue during a recall campaign lasting from 2011 to 2014. Ten years later and it is still happening! there were no warning lamps or messages or symptoms prior to this failure. It just passed vehicle inspections for the year.
For some unknown reason the car will suddenly display multiple warning lights, check engine, service needed, traction control off/inactive then the car will go into reduced engine power mode which prevents acceleration and causes the car to feel like it’s going to stall or shut off. This has happened several times on major high speed highways causing other cars to slam on their breaks, drive recklessly to avoid my failing car. My daughter has been in the car several times when this happened and it took everything in my power to not collide with another vehicle. We have taken the car to the Lexus dealership every time and they have tried to fix the car over a dozen times but it keeps happening. They don’t seem to know the issue or cause, trying several different solutions. How can a car manufacturer not know what is wrong with their own car not how to fix it? what am I supposed to do, just keep driving it and pray an accident never happens? there is no warning when this happens and no way to keep the car from swiftly decelerating or keep the car from using “minimal engine power” which I’m to,d is to protect the engine but I’m more worried about us. The date below is for the most recent incident.

The the vvi oil line failed in April of 2024. Contacted Lexus corporate via phone and problem was never resolved. Fast forward to November 2024 and after paying to have vvi oil line replaced the motor failed on the highway. Mechanic said complete engine failure. This car was a certified used Lexus and they failed to replace the vvi during the certification process! prior to buying this used car from an individual I called hendricks Lexus 6935 w frontage rd, merriam, KS 66203 and spoke to service advisor willie who said if you have any problems with that vehicle bring it in and Lexus is making good on the hybrid vehicles. After purchase I went to hendricks 9300 NW prairie view rd, kansas city, mo 64153 multiple times for parts and service history. I spoke to parts manager, service manager and several others and not one person informed me of the problem and immediate need for concern! how did this car get certified prior to the previos owner buying the vehicle “certified”? I bought this car with the understanding that it had been completely certified and given the 6 year additional warranty to the owner I purchased it from, although they were still considerably below the miles guaranteed with the certification. How did Lexus allow this vehicle to pass the certification without replacing a $100 part that could result in catastrophic failure. This car was sold at a premium because of the certification, yet a part that had been reconfigured and identified as contributing to a catastrophic failure as early as 2012 was left on the vehicle!.
Engine cut out suddenly while driving 45 mph, followed by battery light, check engine light, and power steering light forcing hazardous emergency stop. Engine would no longer crank, and car had to be towed to nearest Lexus certified repair facility. Technician scanned the system and found four codes: p0335, p1603, p1604, p1605. After bore-scoping front three cylinders, technician tried to turn motor by hand and was unable to. The motor turned in reverse, but not forward. Technician removed oil pan to find pieces of valve spring broken and pieces of the piston rings and piston fragments from one of the rear three cylinders. Motor will need to be replaced or completely rebuilt after only 133,458 miles and regular servicing.

I pulled onto a 4 lane divided highway and the car immediately went into limp mode, meaning the car would not go more than 1 mph even with the gas pedal to the floor. I could not accelerate thus my safety was in danger, and I was almost hit by a tractor trailer truck. I pulled over to the side of road as best I could, then shut the engine off and restarted the engine. This apparently re-set some sort of engine control and then the car accelerated normally. The dealer applied an ecu update #24lc03. When I researched this update, it was stated that this was not an actual recall, I wondered how that could that be since I was nearly involved in a fatal accident, and surely there are other similar Lexus owners at the same risk . That I was. The wording of the update described exactly what happened to me. In my opinion this information is too important to shoved under the rug and not made into an actual recall. A life could be saved. Thank you for looking into this.
The vehicle hesitates off a full stop such as at a red light. The automatic start stop feature is turned off manually, but car hesitates off the stop creating an unsafe condition if making a left turn where there is no left traffic arrow turn signal and cars are coming in the opposite direction or when entering a moving lane. The hesitation is enough to prevent you from entering or crossing moving traffic unless you wait for all traffic to be gone. This only happens when it is hot outside. When it is cool and air temperature is lower this does not occur and the car operates as normal. Has happened since new and dealer cannot look into it because there are no failure codes appearing on the car's system.
It has the same engine failure problem as the recall for 2022 and 2023 vehicles. The engine just stalls when it wants with no check engine light or error codes. Then restarts just fine when put in park. Lexus repair could not even find a issue. Have documents to prove it.
My car has an oil leak from the timing chain cover gasket that was discovered by an independent mechanic at 37,465 miles. The dealer confirmed the leak on June 14, 2024 during a recall replacement of the fuel pump. The repair is very expensive and the car is no longer under warranty. This is the second occurrence of this same issue. The first occurred in April 2021 at 24,192 miles and was repaired by the dealer under warranty. There were no warning lamps or messages of the problem but there was oil on the ground where I park. The car is available for inspection. An internet search confirms that this is a known and common problem with the Lexus Rx350 (and specifically the 2017 model) for many owners with some occurring more than once as in my case.
Timing chain cover oil leak is a wellknown issue for Lexus/Toyota v6 engine for more than a decade. The company is still reluctant to provide a long term solution. This 2016 Lexus Rx350 f sport was first discovered timing cover oil leak at 49166 miles and was resealed on Jan. 27, 2021. One year later, on Jan. 13, 2022, valve cover gasket oil leak was found at 57608 miles. Two months later, on Mar 16, 2022, timing cover oil leak was discovered again at 58821 miles. Then two months later, on may 16, 2022, oil leak was discovered again at 59864 miles. [all above was repaired by thompson Lexus in doylestown, PA under Lexus powertrain warranty. ] now, two years and 15000 miles later, the car is currently developing the same oil leak again at 76500 miles. The car is out of warranty, the repair will cost $7000. Toyota/Lexus should provide a lonterm sustainable solution for this problem instead of advising repairshop to merely reseal the cover, which will eventually leak again.
Codes p219c & p0301 have continuously came on , these lights mil have made the vehicle go from awd to 2 wheel drive while in motion. 4/25/2024 vehicle was taken to bay ridge Lexus. In brooklyn NY. They over looked this issue and stated it was something else. This has been confirmed via multiple diagnostics machines. Lexus of edison has also decided not to cover this repair under warranty . The danger of going from 4 wheel drive into 2 wheel drive while in motion is extremely dangerous . These warning lights/mil once activated has also caused the vehicles sonar to fail cause a serious safety issue. My vehicle is available to be inspected as needed.
The contact owns a 2023 Lexus Rx350. The contact stated that on three occasions while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost motive power for approximately 20 seconds, and then accelerated as needed. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 4,200.
My 2011 Lexus Rx350 was running fine as I ran errands for groceries and other items around town one day. Then, out of the blue, I realized that after returning home and parking in my garage, there was a trail of oil in my driveway, leading to my vehicle. I looked under the engine area and noticed a pool of oil. I had a certified mobile mechanic come to my home and provide a diagnosis. This diagnosis was that a hole had formed in the rubber engine oil cooler line, and drained nearly all the oil in my engine. He mentioned that one more mile and I could have had total engine failure. He proceeded to replace it with a new genuine Lexus, all metal oil cooler line. I contacted Lexus about this incident, but they provided no compensation for this occurrence, even though there was a short 4-year technical service bulletin they issued barely a year after production, that called out this was indeed a flaw in their design. After doing some research, I see this is a very common issue, with many in the past most recent years having this very issue. Yet, Lexus has not recalled this, nor reimbursed those that have suffered from this manufacture defect. I am really hoping that something can be done by NHTSA and/or Lexus to resolve this issue that I am certain is still plaguing thousands of Lexus owners on the road, and putting our and those around us' safety at risk. Surely, a part that obviously and very consistently degrades over the course of 5+ years so often, needs to be addressed and recalled for the sake of safety and integrity.
I have purchased a new Lexus Rx 350 2024 from south county Lexus in mission viejo in March 2024. Upon completion of the purchase, I was informed that I get only one key for the car as there is a shortage of the keys. I was told that it will take a few months to get a 2nd key. Now it is June 6, 2024. I called the Lexus dealership as well as corporate office. I was informed that I probably will get the key in August 2024. I find it absolutely unacceptable. It creates a safety hazard when a 2nd key is not available.
First, we are a victim of fraud and scam and are distressed since day one and loss of thousands of dollars. After searching and reviews, we bought a 2015 Lexus Rx350 for family use from a seller who had owned this vehicle for over five years but the seller never disclosed and represented in the sale of this vehicle that it was rebuilt and had engine front cover timing gasket leak! they said it was clean title and didn’t have any issues. Plus the blind spot sensors had issues. The same day these problems were recovered after we bought it and from the same first day we tried to return the vehicle and used all other option legally from day one till now to resolve it with the seller, but they didn’t want to resolve neither return it or fix the problems with vehicle but they kept denying. Vehicle been sitting in parking lot since the first day of bought and never able to register and it’s been over 8 months. Also found out, these year models like mine 2015 Rx350 timing cover leak were common problem back then. I’m desperately asking to issue a fix remedy by Lexus or Toyota therefore, please help with this. . Thanks in advance!.
