Other Fuel System Problems of Lexus RX - part 1

Was pulling into parking spot when car went haywire and started accelerating on its own. It would not stop until it has hit 5 cars and crashed into a cement wall. The brakes did not stop the acceleration. This occurred at the exact same time there was an incoming call which was not answered. The airbags did not deploy. The car appears to be totaled and has been towed to a state farm affiliated auto yard. There were no indicator lights that something was wrong but the Lexus app showed 5 warnings that came in to my text messages same day. These 5 alerts are indicative of exactly what occurred.

The fuel pump sensor electrically shorted. The assembly failed. (tube assembly, fuel suction w/ pump and gage), gasket, fuel suction tube set. It is available for inspection. The car could stall at any time because the fuel pump sensor cannot accurately determine the fuel level or how much fuel is being injected into the engine. There was a warning light. Lexus covered two other fuel pump safety issues for this make and model (2018 Rx 450h), one under a manufacturer recall and one through a customer support program. This is a third defect with the fuel pumps on these vehicles for which Lexus has not offered coverage or notified its customers.

For some unknown reason the car will suddenly display multiple warning lights, check engine, service needed, traction control off/inactive then the car will go into reduced engine power mode which prevents acceleration and causes the car to feel like it’s going to stall or shut off. This has happened several times on major high speed highways causing other cars to slam on their breaks, drive recklessly to avoid my failing car. My daughter has been in the car several times when this happened and it took everything in my power to not collide with another vehicle. We have taken the car to the Lexus dealership every time and they have tried to fix the car over a dozen times but it keeps happening. They don’t seem to know the issue or cause, trying several different solutions. How can a car manufacturer not know what is wrong with their own car not how to fix it? what am I supposed to do, just keep driving it and pray an accident never happens? there is no warning when this happens and no way to keep the car from swiftly decelerating or keep the car from using “minimal engine power” which I’m to,d is to protect the engine but I’m more worried about us. The accident happened when I was using the "brake hold system". It is designed to use when the needs to stop briefly. When the brake hold button is touched while the driver's foot is on the brake pedal, the driver do not need to step on the brake even though the shift lever is in d. After I finished paying for a car wash, I touched the brake hold button. Then the vehicle suddenly accelerated forward and ran at a high speed. I was pushing the brake pedal, when I touched the button. I was startled and attempted to stop the vehicle with all my strength by braking the brake pedal. It didn't stop and went over the cub and accelerated even more and it crossed the both lanes and hit the cub on the other side. It climbed up the bank wall and it finally stopped. The police and the ambulance came and took me a hospital. I later found out the vehicle was towed to a nearby junk yard. I believe that the new high-tech system known as brake hold malfunctioned and caused "unintended acceleration". I believe that it certainly is extremely dangerous. It has not yet been inspected by the Lexus mechanics. There were no warning signs whatsoever before the unintended acceleration. Btw, I have used the function before I. E. Car has a continuous gas smell after start up. When a/c or heat is turned off the car cabin smells of gaslione. I have taken to the car to Lexus dealership repeatedly and have been advice car operates as intended. There is also a hissing noise coming from the rear driverside tire area near the gas tank.

My vehicle has an intermittent check engine light along with an ics malfunction code that pops up on the dashboard. The car doesn’t want to turn on after every gas fill up. After taking my car to a couple of independent shops, they determined that the issue with the car was the high pressure fuel pump. The suggested, I take it to the dealer as there was TSB bulletin on it. Furthermore I still had the letter from Lexus stating the issue. The local dealership refused to do the work and suggested other work after charging a huge amount for the car inspection. Lexus corp wouldn’t help on the matter. There are 4 other complaints on this same issue and the dealers and the plexus corp are getting away with not calling this an actual recall because the government hasn’t stepped in.

Unintended acceleration causing accident March 2, 2023. Low speed frontal collision avoidance assist did not engage causing accident June 11, 2024. August 2023 I agreed to video and Lexus is not providing video of accident June 11th, 2024! recall on fuel pump and software replaced but still bad. Radio off. Heard cybercrimes of communications systems for video game data by meta.

Codes p219c & p0301 have continuously came on , these lights mil have made the vehicle go from awd to 2 wheel drive while in motion. 4/25/2024 vehicle was taken to bay ridge Lexus. In brooklyn NY. They over looked this issue and stated it was something else. This has been confirmed via multiple diagnostics machines. Lexus of edison has also decided not to cover this repair under warranty . The danger of going from 4 wheel drive into 2 wheel drive while in motion is extremely dangerous . These warning lights/mil once activated has also caused the vehicles sonar to fail cause a serious safety issue. My vehicle is available to be inspected as needed.

Lexus claimps the car run 27miles per gallon. But the actual miles I got only 22. 1 miles after owning it for a year . This is a big lie. Please take appropriate action!.

Two days ago, upon entering our vehicle, there was a smell of gasoline as we drove. Our fuel guage wend from 1/4 tank to empty in minutes. I pulled into a gas station and when attached the nozzle, gas entering the tank was pouring out from underneath. I drove the car to the venue we were headed to and parked on a dirt/gravel spot so as to limit fuel runoff to nearby vehicles. We had the vehicle towed to bob tyler Toyota, the nearest Lexus type service center. I called service at Lexus of mobile and the employer stated that there are no recalls. The free flowing fuel endangered not only my and my wife but anyone around the vehicle. No warning lights whatsoever. The tow driver concurred that fuel was pouring until the tank was emptied. I have not been contacted by the service department thus far.

While driving car came to an abrupt stop and stalled. (abs) had to engage brake to restart car. Noticed abnormal shifting while driving in nc mountains.

While vehicle was being driven into the garage the vehicle suddenly accelerated on it own without driver pushing on gas pedal. Vehicles automatic emergency braking did not engage. Vehicle then struck steel shelving and wooden cupboards causing considerable damage to vehicle. The body shop where the vehicle was taken for repair experienced the same surging phenomena when they moved the vehicle. There were no system warning lamps visible prior to the episode. The vehicle has not been inspected by Lexus.

Oil cooling line failed when driving. I was not aware that it was having an issue; the oil completely cleared the engine, and this could have seized the engine while I was driving. The only way I figured it out, I stopped the car at some point and saw a pool of oil under the car. I called aaa and they came to tow the car, and checked the engine, and told me that there was no oil in the engine.

There is a known issue in the form of a warranty policy bulletin and I believe a recall in canada for a faulty engine oil cooler line that was made of rubber and fails under heat (now replaced by metal lines). This happened to my daughter after a hot day and she pulled away from the driveway the next day. Almost all of the oil leaked out and we stopped the car and had it towed to a Lexus dealership. When it was inspected, it was confirmed this was the issue, and there was a noise in the engine. I have a concern that further engine problems may have resulted in a loose bearing needing compete replacement. This has yet to be confirmed, but seems consistent with the many discussion boards that mention this exact issue.

I was driving my 2011 Lexus Rx 350 on July 7, 2023, to a swimming pool. I was pulling into a parking spot just rolling to a stop with my foot on the brake. The car suddenly accelerated with grate speed and ran on the curb of the sidewalk forward to a small rock wall, I immediately turned the vehicle to the right and pressed down on the brakes, but the vehicle kept moving about 45 feet and came to a stop after crushing another two vehicles in the parking lot. These two vehicles were destroyed and not repairable according to the insurance company. For my car the right front side was crushed and both airbags on the drive side deployed, and my chest and legs were injured by the airbags. The biggest injury was my mental injury which made me unable to return to normal life.

The accident happened on 12/28/22. At 8:50 am, I was picking up a friend and was leaving the parking lot. My friend got in and and then opened the door to lock it again . My foot was on the gas pedal trying to leave the parking lot. The car jumped and went to the opposite side. I turned the steering wheel to keep it from hitting an object but could not get any control on the car. The car kept accelerating and I had to put the car back into park to stop the car. The acceleration was so much that the car jumped the curb and stopped by a wall. The air bags opened up.

Yes, vehicle is available for inspection. - yes, with the vehicle stalling out in cross traffic, it has almost caused me, my wife and child to get t-boned on multiple instances. Lexus corporate and the Lexus dealer had been made aware of this concern on multiple occasions. - no, dealer has not been able to reproduce after multiple reviews. I do have video proof of the car doing this taken after final attempt for Lexus to review. This video has been sent to Lexus corporate and Lexus dealer. - vehicle has been inspected by Lexus dealership as a representative of Lexus corporate. My dealer has looked at it multiple times and can never duplicate and will not help. I worked with Lexus directly and also were not able to help. Lexus corporate has now turned my case over to their lemon law department for review on 7/8/24 due to this issue and many more issues with car. I provided requested information to Lexus corporate lemon department on 8/12/24 and have not hear back as of 10/24/24. - unknown: issue occurs few time a week since purchased the car on 2/4/2023, but do not recall first experience. Issue occurs more after the car has been sitting for a while on a hot day or not drove in a few days, and will stall out mostly on a left hand turn. The issue feels like the battery is dead and the gas engine has to take over for it causing a lag. When the engine does finally take over it seems to rev really high too. After it does it once or in some cases twice at the beginning of the drive it is typically okay the rest of the drive.

Hello, I paid 70k for my 2022 Lexus Rx 350 car, the dealership bobby rahal Lexus also sold me some unwanted services like tft protection, insurance and others as well. Since day one the Lexus car gps is failure, from point a to point b, it will take you to horrendous directions and waste your time and gas. I have complained to my dealership and Lexus itself. Lexus folks were very rude, dealership after long battle only in October 2024 I got to update my gps software. Also gave my car for changing engine oil post service I am experiencing more wear and engine noise. Post service I am noticing the rear hood door makes latching noise while driving. The fuel delivery line is leaking, car will still run then quit however, interior and exterior smells like gas any slight spark could cause a fire. You can see fuel along the under carriage of the engine. I found Lexus has a recall for a leaking fuel delivery line, however I don't see my vehicle listed. Please investigate why my 2007 Lexus Rx400h did not get added to this recall list. Let me know if my vehicle could be added. Thank you for your time.

On November 19, 2021, I purchased a vehicle from cars lane on hanover road in annapolis maryland. Upon driving back to my residence in gaithersburg I noticed that there was significant shaking when the vehicle was driven over 60 miles an hour. I notified the dealership and seemed helpful at first. I took the car to a good year facility and pay to have an alignment. That seem to fix one of the issues however there were several more and many more I was later to find out. As well, the vehicle was also hard to steer when it came to trying to back up and turn the steering wheel. It also made a loud whining noise. I contacted the dealership again and told them of this problem. I have been out to the dealership several times upon realizing they do not have a mechanic on duty and whoever passed inspection on this car should be investigated. There is no way that this car should've passed inspection. The last time I went to the dealership upon talking with the owner I was told to bring the car in and they would take a look at it. Looking at it was all they did. I noticed that eric was on the phone with the warranty people trying to determine if the items that I complained about were covered under the warranty. The woman on the phone informed him that they only covered a certain point of the cost. Now I have come to find out that this car has over $17,000 worth of work to be done. I would like to make a formal complaint about this dealership, its representative eric cole and the mechanic that allegedly passed this vehicle for inspection. I welcome the opportunity to speak with you and supply you with all the necessary documentation concerning this matter. I have included a copy of the estimate from the Lexus dealership in rockville, maryland. It is my honest opinion that this car should've never been sold and have lied to me in the process and to throw the paperwork at me and tell me to take care of myself is unacceptable. They should be held accountable, fined, or shut down.

Engine dies out as per recall but already did recall and still has same problem and code coming. Out took to Lexus dealer to check they came out to be battery cooling fans being defective. Got estimates and was crazy amount told them don't repair SUV. After talking to dealer they state the fans has nothing to do with recall and warranty is over.

In heavy traffic the car stalled and by pumping the accelrator several times it activated. . Then at the stop light it did the same issue and heavy traffic was upon me blowing there horns. . I carryed it to a Lexus dealer and they could not determine the problem. . I went online and found out that their is a recall on this vehicle. . Which was not taken care of by the car dealer before I purchased the vehicle in April 2021. Lives can be taken and I want this problem taken care of before it's our lives.

The car stalls while I'm driving, and it almost caused a traffic. Accident, I have been trying to contact my local Lexus dealer and they keep hanging up the phone when I try to call and make appointments.

Something had broken causing oil draining out of the car while driving on the highway. The car lost power and I pulled over immediately and shut off the engine. I opened the hood and saw nothing wrong, however when I checked the oil, there was no oil. I then proceeded to look under the car and there was oil all over the under carriage. I then did a walk around and found oil all over the back side. Me and my family were stranded while we waited for a tow truck. We had the tow truck take the Rx350 to the local Lexus (kuni in denver) dealership where this car has been serviced all its life. When I received the initial call from the service department, he had said he is 99% sure this is the oil cooler pipe. He then said this is a known defect in the design of this part. When I googled "rx350 oil cooler pipe" numerous complaints came back. The initial design is rubber and now they installed one that is metal. This could have been fatal if we had traffic near us. Also this could have major damage to the engine. This should have been recalled however Lexus decided not to and just call it a warranty notice. Even with all the information out there about this highly defective part, the dealership would not cover the cost and told us to directly deal with Lexus. If anyone is reading this, and you have not change out this part, I would get this done! it is not an if this will happen, it is when it will happen. The design of this pipe is elementary and will fail. I thought Lexus being a luxury manufacturer would take more care with their customers! but as you can see, they are not.

Vehicle has been reported before for similar problems. This time, no power, severe stumbling, lurching. Check engine light comes on along with warning indicators that the electrical systems have failed. Lexus notified again and vehicle will be towed to dealership. This car is dangerous and life threatening as we were in traffic with no power. Dealer did not notify us of any problems prior to sale but this car qualifies as a lemon under az law. Additionally, if other Lexus owners are having this problem, they should immediately stop using the vehicle and park it before someone gets injured/killed.

Car does not speed when gas pressed, noise and car shakes. Engine check light on and screen showed trac off. Saw something with engine power issue. Parked car and called Lexus emergency. Car at dealership and it is being inspected.

Vehicle stumbles and loses power when accelerating. Loss of power when passing. Both situations caused driver to abort action for fear of not having the power to enter the roadway or pass vehicles. Lexus dealership acknowledged the problem with this vehicle and said the fuel pump was replaced because of a recall. Problem continues to exist and is dangerous to driver and others. Dealer further recommended we “ change our driving habits “ to remediate the problem. Not acceptable.

When I press on my brakes they make a loud roaring sound right away. Usually when brakes are about to go out its usually a squeaky noise then it will go to loud roaring noise. There has not been an indicator on the dash about any issues with the vehicle. I found it rather odd that the brakes made the roaring noise immediately. It didn't squeak at all. I would like for this matter to be looked into. There is no way there should be a brake system failure right away. The schrader valve has a crack and freon is leaking out of and the air is not blowing cold air.

While driving 65-70mph on the freeway, the car started dinging and one of the first messages that we saw was "pre-collision system malfunction" & "hybrid system malfuncion" followed by every other "system malfunction" and the gas pedal was no longer supplying gas to the car. We were in the fast lane and had to work over 3 or 4 lanes to get to the emergency lane/exit. Since we were at an exit, we took the exit and coasted as far as we could before the car came to a halt. Another car stopped to help us get completely off the road since we weren't fully in the emergency lane. After a few minutes we were able to crank the car and drive it a few miles to the dealership. We left the car at the dealership and they called the next day to inform us that the fuel pump had to be replaced. I did not find this vehicle to be part of any recall or lawsuit but several other Lexus models are part of a recall/lawsuit due to a problem with the denso fuel pump. I'm not sure if my car has this same fuel pump. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.

Contact states they were sitting in drive, with their foot on the brake. When the contact took their foot off the brake, they began to let the vehicle coast to about 5 mph. Then, the vehicle lunged forward unexpectedly to about 25 mph, when it collided with a rock. The vehicle had previously spent over 10 days in different dealerships to diagnose issues related to the engine running rough, the car stalling out, and the vehicle driving erratically and lunging forward. The contact only began to have issues with the vehicle after the NHTSA denso fuel pump recall. A year after the contact took delivery of the vehicle, the remedy was done. The dealership stated they had completed the remedy properly, but because of parts shortages they only modified the fuel pump, but that tmna said this is a valid remedy. After further investigation, the remedy protocol which they followed did not match the one the manufacturer assured NHTSA they would follow, and there was no amended NHTSA remedy. Then, the manufacturer denied they told the dealership that the protocol they followed was a valid remedy. About 10 minutes after leaving the dealership the contact returned and stated the vehicle was running rough and driving erratically. The dealership told the contact that it was completely normal and that the vehicle just needs to re-learn their driving style. The contact had issues with the vehicle, including the illumination of warning lights, and the dealership cannot remedy the issue (refusing to replace/repair the fuel pump).

My car stalled in the middle of an intersection. It had to be towed to the Lexus dealer, where it was determined to be a fuel pump malfunction. My car was not subject to the fuel pump recall but it should have been.

Bought a used 2010 Lexus Rx 450h 3. 5l with 130,000 miles. At approximately 132,000 miles while driving on the highway, oil cooler line suddenly exploded without warning and vehicle lost all of its oil, full synthetic, within seconds. Oil splattered all over entire underbody. Vehicle completely un-drivable and had to be towed. No pre warning from oil light or any other indication other than loud bang and smell of burning oil. Huge safety risk and likelihood of complete engine loss or seizing if I had continued to drive any longer, possibly leading to an accident or worse. Immediately pulled over at smell of hot oil and had it towed to repair shop. Estimated cost about $ 1,000. Repair shop stated this is a known issue with Toyota oil line cooler hose and Lexus models of this year and should have been a recall item. Recommended replacement hose is now metal.

Dashboard check engine, car skid lines wont shut off. Engine stalls while driving when car is stopped tried to turn off lights. Would not go out. Not flashing lightss on dashboard. Stable light not going out.

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Lexus Rx350. The contact's wife stated that upon accelerating the vehicle after exiting a roundabout, an unknown dust substance began to emit from the exhaust pipe without warning. The contact's wife drove to a gas station and discovered that the oil was empty. The contact then refilled the oil but by the next day, the oil had completely leaked out of the vehicle. Due to the failure, the contact had the vehicle towed to Lexus of maplewood(3000 us-61, maplewood, mn 55109) where they initially discovered metal shavings in the oil line. The oil line was replaced; however, they also discovered that the cam gears in upper engine were defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer had been notified of the failure and stated that they would call the contact; the contact had yet to hear from the manufacturer. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000. Jo.
