37 Power Train problem of the 1999 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 08/13/2011

While driving down the interstate returning from a family trip from mississippi at approximately 150 miles from my home the Rx300 stopped on the highway and would not pull forward in any drive position. It was about 10pm and most businesses were closed. After pulling off the road, I tried putting the car in various drive positions and it would never gain any momentum. I slowly pulled back onto the highway using my emergency blinkers while the car would pull slowly at times and not at all at others. Finally I was able to coast off the highway to a gas station at the exit. I allowed the vehicle to cool down for about an hour and tried to move it again and it moved about twenty feet and stopped again. Fortunately I had not gotten on the road and was able to coast back to a parking area. I then had to have a tow truck pick up my car and tow it the 150 miles back to my city to my mechanic who informed me that the transmission was completely gone and needed to be replaced. My car had been well maintained and previously had no problems. The car was thoroughly checked out by a mechanic only three months before. 38 Power Train problem of the 2005 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 03/08/2010

Upon slowing from 40mph to a stop or almost a stop, to make a turn, the car hesitates before accelerating. This hesitation has caused both me and my wife to abruptly abort left turns. This behavior is particularly dangerous for drivers in the congested NY metropolitan area. We have experienced some frightening close calls when the vehicle failed to accelerate, causing an emergency abort of a turn. This hesitation also manifests itself when you lift from the accelerator to slow down and then get back on the gas. I have complained to the dealer numerous times since the car was new. The dealer had a field service engineer check the car: he said ithe car performed as designed.

39 Power Train problem of the 2007 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 09/06/2009

While driving in my neighborhood, I heard a noise. 1-3 minutes later, the oil light came on. I went straight to the dealer (a mile away), despite the owner's manual indicating no urgency. They said my oil cooler line blew, leaked out all my oil and destroyed my engine within minutes. I came to find out later that this catastrophic, engine-destroying oil line rupture is a known defect to Lexus (like the vvt line) but for some reason was never recalled despite it being just as catastrophic/dangerous. Lexus chose to use a cheaper rubber hose instead of a metal pipe when the rubber hose can't take those high temps and will blow. 100% likelihood this will happenjust a matter of when. I researched it and there are millions of Toyota and Lexus cars affected by this problemevery single 07-11 Rx 350 plus many toyotas. Lexus was made aware of the defect but chose not to fix it. Except in canada, there was a mandatory recall and this part was replaced. For some highly suspicious reason, this didn't happen here. Why? it's dangerous enough to recall in canada, but not the us? instead of recalling, us Lexus issued an insufficient 36 month warranty to replace it, but only if it blew during this time. If it didn't leak within that time, you're screwed. Lexus messed up its VIN tracking system, so people were not made aware of this warranty. For those who were, the issue was downplayed as simply an oil seep instead of an oil line explosion which destroys the engine. Customers were not told at the dealership. We should have been alerted to the defect so we could fix it proactively and spare us the death of a car with only 90k miles. Google this problem to see the thousands of posts/complaints on Toyota/Lexus websites. There needs to be a mandatory recall and/or reimbursement for those whose engines were destroyed by Lexus known defect. Please take action! please.

40 Power Train problem of the 1999 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 12/30/2006

I just had my 1999 Lexus Rx300 serviced 2 weeks ago with the 90,000 mile service (timing belt, etc). Included in this I got the tranny fluid flush. Two weeks later on 12/30 my Lexus started slipping (the tranny). I got it into my shop and had it diagnosed. The tranny is shot. For a luxury car to lose it's tranny @ 100,000 miles is unacceptable. Furthermore this is not an isolated incident. They are countless stories in forums of people with the same problem in the 1999-2001 Lexus Rx300's all over the country. This is horrible. This is a huge expense @ $3500 for a repair. I have called literally all over the country trying to find a tranny, most places just don't have them in stock, confirming my belief that the trannies in the Lexus Rx300 are defective. They should recall this or at least be willing to pony up a % of the cost for this huge expense.
