Failure Date: 06/21/2021

The hybrid transmission failed at 146k and the light went on. When we took it to the dealership, they said that there was metal bits. The owner of the vehicle when into the dealership asking the dealership to set tire pressures and inspect floor mats for proper installation, they performed an inspection and inflated the tires. The owner went in and stated that the check hybrid system warning light is on. Oil pump range/performance. Note: no road test performed. Possible additional work needed. Transmission oil pump inoperable due to metal in fluid shorting the pump. The dealership took a fluid sample. They had found lots of metal particles present in the fluid. They recommend replacing the transmission, oil pump, cooler, cooler hoses, and clamps, flush the metal lines.

41 Power Train problem of the 2016 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 10/20/2020

Around the middle of the month of January of 2022, I discovered that my 2016 Lexus Rx350 has massive oil leak from timing chain cover. Thompson Lexus dealership confirmed this oil leak. This leak not just happened, but it has happened long ago at least 6 months prior to the time that I discovered based on old oil dirty debris deposits and paints popped out and rusted caused by prolong oil on the frame. The reason that did not detect the oil leak right away was that I have almost not used the car at all for the past two years due to covid situation. Second, I have parked my car on my lawn, so that could not see oil drops. Third, I put my trust on Lexus and Toyota products, so I have not inspected for oil leak periodically. This oil leak has soaked many parts of the engine, frame, electrical connections, and possibly other moving parts such pulleys and belts. This can potentially create smoke or fire hazard and belt and pulley slippery which can lead to accidents. At the time of the oil leak, my car was under 54,000 miles and under 6 years, so it was still under powertrain warranty with is 6 years and 70,000 miles. I have contacted Lexus several times regarding this matter. I told them about location of the oil leak and when oil started leaking, my car was still under powertrain warranty but Lexus refused to pay for the timing cover repair. After doing research on Rx350 from timing chain cover, I have found out that a lot of Lexus Rx350 has developed oil leak from timing chain cover since year 2009 or 2010 model to 2016 year model. Some Rx350 developed timing chain cover oil leak from a few thousand miles of first use to 38,000 miles. Lexus was aware of the problem, but completely ignored and failed address the problem and issue a recall.

43 Power Train problem of the 2017 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 05/08/2020

On 5/8/2020, northtown Lexus replaced or repaired the vacuum pump. Northtown Lexus required the vehicle to be returned for repair twice, following the initial repair on 5/8/2020. After three attempts, the vehicle's vacuum pump (per a factory recall) is not functioning properly. Northtown Lexus refuses to further diagnosis this defective vacuum pump and continued to decline any and all requests for repair. The vehicle operates abnormally ever since this factory recall was originally addressed by northtown Lexus on 5/8/2020.

45 Power Train problem of the 2008 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 11/18/2019

This car is experiencing symptoms exactly as described in the inverter module recall, whereby after highway driving, the electric motor will fail randomly, tripping all dashboard failure lights, and putting the vehicle in "limp" mode, where it either slows significantly or stops, and then thus poses great safety risk with surrounding traffic.

46 Power Train problem of the 2001 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 10/22/2019

I bought a car from a private party/dealer only to find out that repairs needed are more than cars worth, then I checked car fax to find out that mileage had been turned back a lot. . This person lists 3-4 cars for sale a week and I can't find any one that wants to help. I know I am stuck with car unfortunately it was for my handicapped son that started college recently and used all his savings for car. I found that this person goes under several names and only location I have is where I bought the car. His home address is unknown at this time. Attempts have been made to contact him where I bought the car but every thing failed and person is still selling cars today. I forgot I was suppose to buy a 2003 but turned out a 2001, if you could direct me to somebody in IL. That can help I would appreciate it. Every one tells me to find a lawyer but all my searching came up zero plus no home address and no help from local law. Been 2 months of digging and searching. Please help.

51 Power Train problem of the 2016 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 05/26/2016

Auto transmission frequently jerks and seems to search for a gear when starting from a stop. This problem is noted in other vehicles manufactured by Toyota. Dealerships tell me it is a reported problem but there is no remedy. Problem exists from date of purchase may 2016.

52 Power Train problem of the 2009 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 06/22/2015

Water pump failed on 2009 lexux Rx350 at 61500 miles and just 4 months over the powertrain warrenty. Lexus declined the claim. Engine overheating caused head gasket failure and warped cylinder head. 1. As per local mechanic who replaced water pump , there were indication of coolant leaking from water pump seal and it must be leaking for quite long time, even when vehicle was under warranty. There was enough volume of coolant when this incident happened, indicates that leakage was very minor and my not appear on the floor where car was parked. 2. Water pump is part of powertrain and has no direct influence of driving pattern. Failure of water pump at 61000 miles is very pre-mature and indicate toward inherent problem with water pump quality. 3. Safety issue: there were no signs of water pump failure until last moment when it actually gave up and check engine lights came up. There was very little time before check engine lights came on and further damage due to overheating. If it was ignored for couple of miles car would have caught into fire 4. Powertrain warranty is 70000 miles or 72 months, whereas cars mileage is 61000 and time since first usage is 75 months (just 3 months over the warranty). Considering close proximity to warranty expiration, Lexus should consider this for warranty extension. 5. This engine series ( 3. 5l ) is infamous for cooling system issues and several service bulletins have been issued regarding it. 6. Several complains have been filed about the similar problem, where water pump failure and subsequent engine damage.

53 Power Train problem of the 2001 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 04/10/2013

I was just getting off the highway and my car stopped moving. My transmission totally went out with no warning. If this would have happened moments sooner I could have been in a terrible accident as I was going 60 mph. I tried to contact Lexus, but they will not admit to this problem or help repair it or recall it. They say that it isn't a know issue but it is and several people have tried to get help with it and Lexus will say no. Be careful, it will happen with no warning.

54 Power Train problem of the 2000 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 08/06/2012

While driving car lost power would not go forward. Never gave me any warning no check engine light nothing! made it home at 5 mph. Transmission went out with no warning! $3600 to fix at aamco, seems like they see this problem often in the Rx300 models 1999-2003 mine is a 2000. Called Lexus but offered no help! very unhappy Lexus owner.

55 Power Train problem of the 1999 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 08/13/2011

While driving down the interstate returning from a family trip from mississippi at approximately 150 miles from my home the Rx300 stopped on the highway and would not pull forward in any drive position. It was about 10pm and most businesses were closed. After pulling off the road, I tried putting the car in various drive positions and it would never gain any momentum. I slowly pulled back onto the highway using my emergency blinkers while the car would pull slowly at times and not at all at others. Finally I was able to coast off the highway to a gas station at the exit. I allowed the vehicle to cool down for about an hour and tried to move it again and it moved about twenty feet and stopped again. Fortunately I had not gotten on the road and was able to coast back to a parking area. I then had to have a tow truck pick up my car and tow it the 150 miles back to my city to my mechanic who informed me that the transmission was completely gone and needed to be replaced. My car had been well maintained and previously had no problems. The car was thoroughly checked out by a mechanic only three months before. 56 Power Train problem of the 2005 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 03/08/2010

Upon slowing from 40mph to a stop or almost a stop, to make a turn, the car hesitates before accelerating. This hesitation has caused both me and my wife to abruptly abort left turns. This behavior is particularly dangerous for drivers in the congested NY metropolitan area. We have experienced some frightening close calls when the vehicle failed to accelerate, causing an emergency abort of a turn. This hesitation also manifests itself when you lift from the accelerator to slow down and then get back on the gas. I have complained to the dealer numerous times since the car was new. The dealer had a field service engineer check the car: he said ithe car performed as designed.

57 Power Train problem of the 2007 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 09/06/2009

While driving in my neighborhood, I heard a noise. 1-3 minutes later, the oil light came on. I went straight to the dealer (a mile away), despite the owner's manual indicating no urgency. They said my oil cooler line blew, leaked out all my oil and destroyed my engine within minutes. I came to find out later that this catastrophic, engine-destroying oil line rupture is a known defect to Lexus (like the vvt line) but for some reason was never recalled despite it being just as catastrophic/dangerous. Lexus chose to use a cheaper rubber hose instead of a metal pipe when the rubber hose can't take those high temps and will blow. 100% likelihood this will happenjust a matter of when. I researched it and there are millions of Toyota and Lexus cars affected by this problemevery single 07-11 Rx 350 plus many toyotas. Lexus was made aware of the defect but chose not to fix it. Except in canada, there was a mandatory recall and this part was replaced. For some highly suspicious reason, this didn't happen here. Why? it's dangerous enough to recall in canada, but not the us? instead of recalling, us Lexus issued an insufficient 36 month warranty to replace it, but only if it blew during this time. If it didn't leak within that time, you're screwed. Lexus messed up its VIN tracking system, so people were not made aware of this warranty. For those who were, the issue was downplayed as simply an oil seep instead of an oil line explosion which destroys the engine. Customers were not told at the dealership. We should have been alerted to the defect so we could fix it proactively and spare us the death of a car with only 90k miles. Google this problem to see the thousands of posts/complaints on Toyota/Lexus websites. There needs to be a mandatory recall and/or reimbursement for those whose engines were destroyed by Lexus known defect. Please take action! please.

58 Power Train problem of the 1999 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 12/30/2006

I just had my 1999 Lexus Rx300 serviced 2 weeks ago with the 90,000 mile service (timing belt, etc). Included in this I got the tranny fluid flush. Two weeks later on 12/30 my Lexus started slipping (the tranny). I got it into my shop and had it diagnosed. The tranny is shot. For a luxury car to lose it's tranny @ 100,000 miles is unacceptable. Furthermore this is not an isolated incident. They are countless stories in forums of people with the same problem in the 1999-2001 Lexus Rx300's all over the country. This is horrible. This is a huge expense @ $3500 for a repair. I have called literally all over the country trying to find a tranny, most places just don't have them in stock, confirming my belief that the trannies in the Lexus Rx300 are defective. They should recall this or at least be willing to pony up a % of the cost for this huge expense.

59 Power Train problem of the 2023 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 12/31/1969

Had transmission replaced 2 times and update to transmission. This is a brand new car purchased in 2023. First transmission replaced at 20,963 miles, 2nd replaced at 33,543 miles, 35,221 miles transmission update. It was cumulative 33 out of service. We feel this vehicle is unsafe to drive. Even after all the transmissions replaced om the is vehicle had 2 more incidents. One was loss of power in traffic and another was on a highway transmission would not shift into higher gear. This is not new there have been hundreds of people with the same exact problems. Lexus has internal TSB l-sb-0059-23 detailing these problems.
