2 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2000 Lexus RX300

Failure Date: 04/26/2012

My 2000 Lexus Rx300 had an unexplained sudden unintended acceleration where the vehicle almost killed me and my son. I was driving residental backroads by my house, accelerated slightly to get up a hill and that's when it took off. The brake pedal was unresponsive, the emergency break was unresponsive, I pulled the floor mat out for good measure, nothing worked, it kept accerating at a high rate until I finally slammed it through gears to "park" to get it to a stop. I had it towed to the Lexus dealership, where the tow truck driver even told me when it started the car to get it up on the truck, after being turned off for over 12 hours, it was still red lining the engine, and even lurched forward but because the car was in park, it didn't crash into the back of the tow truck. Lexus investigated the car and did absolutely nothing. They wouldn't tell me why it happened. I demand an explanation and a replacement vehicle - one that doesn't have a history of having sua problems. I fear for my life everytime I have to drive this vehicle.

8 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2001 Lexus RX300

Failure Date: 12/18/2003

2000 Lexus RX 300 (this is a Toyota camry engine in a Lexus body) car transmission would not change into high gears 3 & 4 for highway driving, preventing acceleration. Lexus of norwood, MA replaced the entire transmission under warranty. 5,000 miles later the new transmission was doing the same thing, after a week they finally gave it back to and said it was repaired but not what they had to fix and were very sketchy, it was still under warranty. Finally the repair technician told in low tones so not to be heard that it was computer software problem and that;s why they would not tell me. So they replaced an entire transmission at 48000 miles incorrectly when all they had to do was do a software bug fix. I think this is significant because the computer prevented acceleration but could probably also cause unintended acceleration. They do not have control of their software running these engines and don't want to admit because they don't know how to fix it.

11 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 1998 Lexus RX300

Failure Date: 07/10/2002

1998 Lexus RX 300 spun out of control and rolled over. This was in 2002 August and I had called Lexus to check if there is a sudden acceleration or a roll over problem. They said none. I decided not to engage a forensic engineer to investigate because that would delay the insurance pay back. My wife walked away with minimal injuries but nevertheless, we still discuss what could have caused the problem.
