1 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 1999 Lexus RX300

Failure Date: 06/16/2016

On 06/16/16 I pulled into driveway engage emergency brakes place vehicle in park and got off. Immediately I realized vehicle was rolling forward I attempted to start to brake and got nothing. I noticed that vehicle was in reverse I attempted to place in park and got nothing lever was free sliding not engaging any gears. I immediately got online to attempt to troubleshoot issue and ran into a handful of blogs relating to an issue in gear shifter cable with a plastic retaining clip which Lexus uses on cable. I had no indication or any sort of warning of this issue before it occurred it just happen out of the blue and it could have been worse if I was actually on the road when this happened. I have read that Lexus is not standing behind this mistake and feel that it is horrible to allow a company that sells such expensive vehicles to employ this practice and endanger consumers, specifically for such an inexpensive piece. I had to get under vehicle to manually engage trasmission into neutral to be able to start vehicle and properly park by again getting under vehicle and placing in reverse and the drive, I was unable to get back into park for some reason will lift vehicle in the morning and attempt to see why will also be attempting to repair and will then have more of an idea of the issue and pictures relating to this matter.

3 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2001 Lexus RX300

Failure Date: 11/02/2014

While traveling at 25 mph the car stopped accelerating forward and seemed to not be in gear. As I pressed the gas pedal the engine revved up, but would not go forward. Car was taken to the dealer who stated even though the car only has 123k , you need to replace the transaxle. I confirmed that their was no maintenance required.

4 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2002 Lexus RX300

Failure Date: 12/16/2011

The transmission totally failed. Vehicle would not move in any gear. Rpms pegged out at 6k. Had the vehicle towed to northtown Lexus in amherst, NY. They agreed that the transmission was totally shot and would cost approximately $5,500 to replace, just for the part. I subsequently had the vehicle towed to continental transmission in buffalo, NY, where it was rebuilt for $3,100. I understand from posts at the Lexus owners club of USA that Rx300 transmissions are prone to failure as they were not designed for the added stresses imposed by and SUV.

5 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2000 Lexus RX300

Failure Date: 04/13/2011

With no warning signs at all the transmission on my Lexus Rx300 has failed. The car never previously failed to engage in any gear, however, while driving the car decreased in speed and would not switch gears to accelerate. We stopped at a red light, and the car would no longer move. Luckily we had made the rare choice of not driving on the freeway that particular night. The transmission fluid had been checked 3 weeks earlier, and the car has had regular maintenance and oil changes. After further research I am finding hundreds of complaints of the same problem with this model of Lexus, and evidence that there is a design flaw in this transmission set up. For the price of these cars I cannot understand why there has been no recall. There is no reason why a transmisson should fail at 126,000 miles on this car. We have been told that the repair cost could be between $3500-$5000. This is not the quality that I expected with the purchase of this car. We have had to replace the oxygen sensors, the mass air flow sensors the vvt valves and oil pan, and now we are faced with the great expense of replacing a very expensive transmission that should still work. I am very disappointed, and while I have promoted the purchase of Lexus cars to my friends and family members, and vowed to purchase again, I am not certain that I want to spend very hard earned money on the dream of quality that doesn't exist.

9 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 1999 Lexus RX300

Failure Date: 05/10/2009

I have read as many of the owners of 1999 Lexus Rx300 SUV , I am not surprised to know that I am now a proud owner of a brand new transmission that failed on my wife while returning from greenville to columbia SC. The transmission was indicating problems by shifting slow as many other complaints that have been filed . When these transmissions start to fail you experience slow shifting when the car has been sitting , even if you let the car warm up first before moving into any gear drive or reverse. When you try to back up in reverse the transmission will not shift into gear, then jumps into gear hard. I have been in the mechanical field for 35 years working for bridgestone/firestone ias a managing partner of retail locations and know this is the signs of transmission problems. This vehicle has been serviced only by Lexus only. Also are severe oil sludging problems, have serviced hundreds of these models and every horror story is the same . Oil sludging causes severe engine damage restricting oil flow through out the engine. When is our rights as consumers going to be upheld by our government . I don`t think I want to buy other new transmission from Toyota corporation or another Toyota product . The cost to repair was $4075. 00 and the only transmissions available are thru Toyota with apparently with the new design . These problems were corrected in 2002 with the new design, what about us the owners of the defective ones!!!! chapin s. C.

11 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2000 Lexus RX300

Failure Date: 02/09/2009

Own a Lexus 2000 Rx300, transmission failed while driving at highway speed, would not move in any gear. The vehicle only had 56,825 miles. Contacted a Lexus dealer and no help was offered, said it would cost $6000 for the repairs. I made a formal request from Lexus USA for help but they declined any responsibility. I was 1600 miles from home so I had an independent transmission shop make the repairs. Lexus is in fact aware of the problems with the RX 300 transmissions, but refuses to take responsibility for their defective design transmission. I would like to know of any class action suit for this problem. I know they have redesigned the transmission on later models to correct the problem!.
